10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

We ended up having cheese and crackers for dinner rather than a slim fast meal - it just seemed too wasteful as they’d have to be binned otherwise. Managed to drink 2 litres today though so on track with that! Everything else in the house now is either diet friendly or packaged with long expiry dates so just gonna take it all day by day.

That's one reason why I had cheese and crackers today too. We bought way too much cheese considering there were only two of us eating it as well. Blush

There's one pack of crackers not even opened yet so they'll keep in the cupboard at least but there are two other boxes of different flavoured ones that are only halfway down. I was debating crushing some up for toppings for pasta bakes but I wasn't sure if they would freeze ok. One of them is rosemary flavoured so that would be quite nice on a shepherd's pie or something if they did freeze.

We had far too much cheese so we took it to the extended family and sneaked it in their fridge! So if any of you find extra cheese you weren't expecting, we must be related.

I had salmon for dinner which I cooked with pepper and tomato. It was a random combination I found in the fridge but it worked really well! I had it with potatoes and other veg but they were just boring. So I'm doing really well and am optimistic about next weigh in.

Welcome @Lashestoashes!

Lashestoashes · 03/01/2023 23:34

Thank you @DuckWithOneWing! the salmon sounds fab I’ve hopefully got that for a dinner this week too!

@ShinyPikachu we also made the critical error of buying too much cheese! We even made a conscious decision to buy less this year but still too much.

I honestly feel like me and the husband buy loads of Christmas snacks and inadvertently hoard them so by the time Christmas has passed we still have loads of uneaten things. We never learn haha.

fidgetcube · 04/01/2023 12:25

Right I’ve weighed in this morning, I’m 157.1kg so only gained 1.2 kg since October, which was when I last weighed in. So yay. Only 57.1kg to go lol.

WeirdPookah · 04/01/2023 13:47

I used to use SparkPeople and it was great, it closed a year ago or so and I haven't found anything like it at all. I use MyNetDiary, but it's clunky compared to what I was used to using. I don't like changes and I can't get into using something new.

I'm so tired of trying.

Sunshineandrainbow · 04/01/2023 18:12

Happy new year everyone.
I am not back on track yet.
Aim to weigh on Saturday and hope its not too bad.

ShinyPikachu · 04/01/2023 21:52

Have you tried NutraCheck @WeirdPookah ?

I struggle with new apps a lot of the time too. I still can't get my head around Instagram but I find NutraCheck really easy to use, although I did have to explore a bit to find some different features, I think the forums have good tips too but I haven't used those.

Good luck @fidgetcube and @Sunshineandrainbow

I've come in around 150 calories under my total today so I hope that makes up a bit for being over yesterday. I even got out for a nice walk today as the weather wasn't too bad. Smile

I use the Lose It! app. I used to use My Fitness Pal but swisher when they made the barcode scanner for premium users only, but I actually prefer Lose It. I've not tried the others mentioned so don't know how it compares though.

My partner is really annoying at the moment. He's decided he wants to lose weight, so he's following Slimming World. Which would be fine, but he's expecting me to do it for him. He's given me all his chocolate and wants me to dole it out in portions - but I need to work out the syn count and portion size for him! I'm not doing SW. I have done before so I know what it means, but I'm out of practice. Then he's also asking me if certain things count as healthy extras and constant questions.

WeirdPookah · 05/01/2023 11:17

@ShinyPikachu I haven't, I looked at the website and it doesn't mention the costs anywhere.

I lost so much weight 10 years ago or so, using SparkPeople, I lost more than half my body weight, now its all pretty much back, I'm a mother of two, a house to run, older and tireder. It just feels so damn difficult all the time.

ShinyPikachu · 05/01/2023 11:25

I know that feeling well @WeirdPookah - I was able to lose fairly easily before, I did SW for a bit and the weight just fell off but even without that just watching what I ate was so much easier. I was a lot more active then, but that's before I ended up with fibromyalgia. Sad

NutraCheck can be used free but you can only track something like 5 items a day, so it's fine that way if you check on it and log them in a notebook instead. I think there's a free trial for using it fully too but don't quote me on that as I've been using it for over a year now. For paying, it's £3.99 a month or £23.99 annually (it sometimes comes up as more than that for people but it came up as a deal for me last year and still shows as that price for my renewal).

I have to admit I did balk a bit at the thought of paying so much for an app subscription (I don't even like paying more than 79p for an app Blush) but I reminded myself I was paying more than that every 6 weeks at SW so it's still a huge saving for me overall. Smile

A quick screenshot of their prices and apparently what other things cost. I meant to add this to my last post.

I wasn't good over Christmas at all, think I got back into 13st region, back on it though and only a little higher than just before Christmas
Really hoping to make a dent in my weight this year, but trying to remain proud of progress so far and not take so much notice of any bumps along the way. Would be really nice to get down to 12st 6lbs or under by the end of this month if I can, would mean Id have 2st to go before goal weight, but I'll need to stay a little stricter with myself if I want to achieve that.

Hope everyone is well, welcome to the newbies 😊

CW - 12st 9.25lbs
GW - 10st 6lbs

ShinyPikachu · 06/01/2023 12:09

Well the least said about yesterday the better. Fibro flare totally floored me and I spent most of the day sleeping or eating easy crap and ended up with a munchie box and a couple of large glasses of wine for dinner.

Today is a new day though. Things have been crazy for me recently so I hope yesterday was a one off that I just needed to recharge.

Lashestoashes · 06/01/2023 14:33

I’ve eaten badly today so far, not excessively but not the correct food. Skipped lunch for a couple of chocolates from a selection box which is classic home working self sabotage for me. Still, dinner is already cooked and is healthy so I’m just going to write the first half of today off.

WeirdPookah · 07/01/2023 11:00

I'm down 3lbs despite evenings "finishing" christmas snacks like Pringles. I sorted all we have left, I have loads of biscuits from an order I was tempted by on Black Friday.

I have tried tracking again on My NetDiary, I just really miss the community and trackers I used to use, nothing is as good. I also begrudge the years worth of my recipes and foods I had entered for myself. Now I just can't be bothered and just take an educated guess that the soup I made is roughly this entry etc.

I did finally get out for a good walk Friday, I fell on some stairs in November and really hurt my toe, and it's still got very limited movement and some swelling. I also had flu over christmas and feeling breathless. But I walked for an hour at last!! Music on and watching the waves crash up the prom, was very restorative.

DuckWithOneWing · 07/01/2023 21:04

I'm having a good wekk so far. I've changed my phone background to one of me at my thinnest to give me motivation. It worked for Christmas - I used a photo of me in a dress I wanted to wear, and then I got to wear it so much I'm now fed up of it!

I really can't believe how much I've changed. This time last year I was just starting my journey properly, and it's amazing how far I've come. It's strange seeing myself in my Facebook memories from last year, as I think I look really really overweight but at the time I was in denial. But I've lost 6 stone since then and I'm still overweight according to my BMI so I must've been! It seems impossible but this year I will reach my goal and have a normal BMI for the first time in years. I've still got a lot to go but it's definitely looking possible.

@WeirdPookah I just looked at NutraCheck and it's saying 12 months is £34.99, but you do get a 7 day free trial to see if you like it first. Or you can buy a monthly option which works out more overall but would be cheaper if you decided after a month you hated it! I used to use MyFitnessPal and a lot of people like that, but they removed a really useful feature where you can scan barcodes and it finds them in the database so I'm not sure I'd recommend it any more.

@Echoes89 I'm so jealous! 12st anything sounds amazing to me. You've done so well. January is also an easy month to diet, as the shops do offers on healthier food, nobody wants to go out so your friends won't lead you astray, and you can always claim to be doing dry January or veganuary as an excuse for not eating if they do!

@ShinyPikachu Today is a new day so hopefully it will be better! You can't be too hard on yourself if you were unwell, and if you spent a lot of the day sleeping then it can't have been that bad.

Lashestoashes · 08/01/2023 10:43

@DuckWithOneWing Your 6 stone loss is so inspiring that’s fantastic! Did you incorporate exercise as well? The most I’ve ever lost is 3 stone which I’ve since put back on with a vengeance!

DuckWithOneWing · 08/01/2023 10:57

Will it's just over 6 since this time last year, it's about 7.5 since my highest weight ever. I hurt my ankle in April and haven't been able to exercise since - at first it hurt just to walk for 5 minutes so I really didn't do anything at all! I've recently bought an indoor trampoline because that's supposed to be low impact so I'm hoping to stay exercising again soon, but so far I've used it about twice.

ShinyPikachu · 09/01/2023 11:10

Well I had a weekend of absolutely no counting as it was a family birthday and we were away seeing family for it. There was cake, ice cream, takeaway, sweets, crisps, everything.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned my rather toxic mother on here. One of the first things I heard when I saw her was "you've gained weight". Normally I would clam up and cry later. This time I responded with "actually I've lost weight, thank you very much". She also told DH he looked like he had lost a lot of weight and he commented that he thought he had gained recently. She was also talking about how skinny I was as a teenager when we looked at family photos, yet that's the exact age I was when she wouldn't stop talking about how fat I was at the time. I honestly think it was that that's caused so many issues now, I never watched what I ate because in my head I was already fat so it didn't matter.

But anyway, the biggest middle finger goes up towards her this week (I even got a "should you be eating that" after she gave me a big bowl of dessert) as despite all that I've lost 1.5lb.

@DuckWithOneWing I would've been chuffed with this weight once upon a time. I think losing weight so slowly, you don't notice any change. Also I'm a short ass, so unfortunately still have a big tummy, that seems to be going nowhere 😂

Back to pre Christmas weight this morning, so onwards and upwards. Really want to be down to goal weight by the end of this year. I've been losing weight since aug/sep 2021 so I'm hoping it's a fairly realistic goal of losing about 7 stone in total over about 2 and a half years. Hoping to get down to 12st 6lbs by the end of this month which would mean I would officially be overweight rather than obese

Hope everyone is doing well

SW- 17st 3lbs

GW - 10st 6lbs

ShinyPikachu · 09/01/2023 22:23

You've done so brilliantly so far @Echoes89 - fingers crossed for the rest of the month for you.

I think my body is protesting after all the sweet, fatty and rich foods over the weekend. I still have 1000 unused calories today as I've just not been hungry at all. None of what I've had has been remotely healthy either but I just needed some plain stuff after the weekend I think.

I'll probably use a few more before bed just so I don't wake up and raid the snacks in the middle of the night, but probably just some plain toast again or maybe some buttery crumpets. I'll still come in well under today anyway.

ShinyPikachu · 10/01/2023 08:15

I had a sneaky non-official step onto the scales this morning and it's down 1.7lb from yesterday. Despite me not eating much yesterday I really thought some of the food from the weekend was going to catch up with me, plus my period started this morning which usually makes me hungry and bloated. That will explain why I felt so dizzy and ill yesterday though!

I haven't seen the weight on the scales today for a long, long time though. It feels good and I'm hoping it keeps me determined this time. Fingers crossed. Grin

@DuckWithOneWing thats great though! I want to start off with no exercise and then slowly incorporate it in. I am starting weekly badminton sessions again from this week but I really enjoy them and it doesn’t feel like exercise!

Well I have weighed and I am down 4.5lbs from last Tuesday so I feel like I’m off to a good start. Hope you all have a good week 😊

DuckWithOneWing · 11/01/2023 09:41

It was my birthday yesterday so I went a bit off plan, but didn't go too crazy. I had a box of fudge and a few gins which was nice. I'm still not in the 14 some bracket and I'm probably further away now but oh well. Onwards and downwards.

Echoes89 · 11/01/2023 10:02

@DuckWithOneWing happy birthday 🎉
You've done so well so far so I think a day off for your birthday is well deserved

I'm officially not obese as of this morning, have been better the last few days, sticking to 2 healthy meals a day with no snacks whatsoever. Really needed a kickstart after the festive period. This will be the first time I haven't been obese as an adult 😁 only by a margin of 0.25lbs, but still haha
