10st plus to lose - part 2

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

Oh bad luck. That’s so unfair @Sammysees ! Well done for not allowing it to throw you off course.

Might be worth asking yourself a few basic questions so set yourself up for a good result next week. Sorry if this is all stuff you’ve already tried. Are you weighing and measuring everything properly (I use digital scales, a measuring jug, and measuring spoons) Writing everything down? Portion size and stray nibbles can make a difference. Any reason why you could be retaining water? You should be getting weight loss at 12-1400 calories. The other thing to think about is the composition of your calories- plenty of protein and veg? Are you taking some walks?

PreesHeath · 06/04/2024 09:22

I weigh in on Monday for the first time since going off plan at Easter. I don’t expect a loss, but hopefully I’ll have limited the damage as I’ve been back on plan since Tuesday.

Today I have porridge, and salmon with broccoli and peas. I also need to fit in some exercise.

Sammysees · 06/04/2024 10:22

Good luck with your weigh in! Let us know how you get on.
I do write down everything but yes, you are right. My weighing of ingredients should be tighter. I will try that this week. I have pretty much cut out most carbs like potatoes, pasta and rice to up my protein and veg. I use butternut squash as my potato substitute and cauliflower rice instead of normal rice.
Exercise (even walking) is difficult as my knees are gone due to how heavy I am. I am also inherently lazy 😬. I was hoping that as I lose weight it would become easier to exercise. I find it really hard now although I should try harder. Thanks for the tips.

PreesHeath · 06/04/2024 10:44

Knees are the worst! You know your body. I’ve found chair workouts helpful - I did mine from the fast diet website which you have to pay for, but there are free ones on YouTube. I used to do them when I was feeling low and couldn’t face going outside or exercising in public. There are chair based Pilates and stretching routines. The Pilates in particular was a revelation to me - amazing how you can feel yourself doing some good without leaving your chair.

Anyway, I made the mistake of taking a sneaky mid week weigh. Nothing good ever comes of that in my experience, and I am 5 lbs up since my last weigh in and back up to 14 stone 6. Not going to record it, will try not to get too dispirited and will see what the scales say on my proper weigh in on Monday.

Sunshineandrainbow · 06/04/2024 11:53

Keep going @Sammysees you will get there. Do you drink enough water?

I am so lazy so I get you, I am still in bed although have left the house to drop DD at work!

Sometimes I do walking you tube videos which I prefer to do rather than going outside, it might be less strain on your knees as no uneven paths etc. The lady is called Leslie sansone and there are different length options.

What's on the menu today?

Hope it is better than what you think.

Those workouts sound good. I understand about outside exercise, I just can't do it.but hope that will change. I find it easier if I have arranged to meet a friend to walk. Shame we don't all live near to each other.

Sammysees · 06/04/2024 14:45

I’ll have a look at some chair work outs. You’ll soon get that 5lbs off. You have done so well.
I am making a cottage pie with swede and carrot mash topping. I can portion it up for the freezer for quick meals during the week. A small portion with added veg is perfect for me as I live alone. I am doing well today. 542 calories so far. I tend to have porridge for breakfast but now spring is on its way I may need to rethink a more summery breakfast. Any ideas?

PreesHeath · 06/04/2024 18:17

Full fat Greek yogurt (or full fat cottage cheese for extra protein), berries and nuts is a good one for me. Overnight oats as an alternative to porridge. Eggs in any form. There are more options if you feel like cooking first thing, but I frequently don’t!

Sammysees · 06/04/2024 18:49

Definitely not cooking first thing. I am out of the house at 7am. Overnight oats is a great idea though. I’ll save the eggs for the weekend. I love an omelette.

Sunshineandrainbow · 06/04/2024 21:40

Yummy you have just reminded me of an overnight oast I used to make with tinned peaches and some of the juice and I used to add raspberries.
Straight on that tomorrow!

The cottage pie sounds amazing and preparing ahead stops the grabbing whatever is there.

Hi I need to loose 10 stones until my wedding in 14 months . I’m doing keto , I previously lost 8 stones so I know I can do it .
currently on my period which is the hardest for me

Sammysees · 07/04/2024 15:16

Ooh tinned peaches 🥰. Are they high in calories?
Welcome @Anonymous2025 . I have 10 stone to lose too (at least). And congratulations on your wedding. That will be a great motivator for you.
I am after some low calorie grab and go stuff that is filling. Any ideas?

DuckWithOneWing · 07/04/2024 19:02

@Sammysees Unfortunately you do get some weeks when your weightloss isn’t fair. I had one last week! You just need to carry on, because if you give up you’ll just end up back where you started. Exercise will become easier as you lose weight, as your knees will have less weight to carry. I also do the Leslie Sansome videos – the Happy Walk is only 15 minutes and is a manageable pace, but she has some longer and faster ones for when you get fitter. Or she also has a cool down walk or some 5 minute mini walks which could be a good target to start off with.
I’m not particularly good with breakfast. I sometimes do overnight oats, but I then tend to have it as a mid-morning snack. I’ve started having a protein shake as it’s quick and filling when I don’t particularly feel like eating. If you do tinned peaches, they’re less calories if you get them in juice rather than syrup.

I love salmon @preesHeath I might get some to have this week! Thanks for the reminder. Hope your Easter blip isn't too bad.

Welcome @anonymous2025! Congrats on your engagement.

My week is going well so far. I’ve massively gone over my target steps every day except Monday when I just met my goal. I’ve also been under my calories and have gone to Zumba. Unfortunately, I told myself that I would start running again when I got to a certain weight and I think I’m going to meet that tomorrow. I love running, I just hate learning how to run. I’ll be starting Couch 2 5k, which is a mix of walking and running til I get back into it.

Sunshineandrainbow · 08/04/2024 08:21

@Sammysees according to my app half a tin in juice is 90 calories.
It's so good in the overnight oats. I see if I can find the recipe, I saw it on a Tom kerridge weight loss show.

Sunshineandrainbow · 08/04/2024 08:23

I dont add the sweetener, honey or almonds.

DuckWithOneWing · 08/04/2024 11:40

First run done! As I was getting ready, the first song my phone chose to play was We Don't Run by Bon Jovi which was nicely ironic. It was harder than I remember.

PreesHeath · 08/04/2024 18:40

Good luck! It gets better I can shuffle for 25 minutes now.

Drawing a line under this week’s weigh in. Significant gain, and I’ve reacted in the least constructive way possible. Checking out for a few days until I am in a better frame of mind. I’ll be back!

Keep on going everyone!

Sammysees · 09/04/2024 20:51

Thank you @Sunshineandrainbow I will get some next time I shop. I love overnight oats. I used to make them with frozen cherries too.
Keep going everyone! We can do this! 💪🏼

For the past two days I have made a mug full of overnight oats with added frozen fruit. I have kept it in the fridge and used it when I am looking for something to eat so have a few spoons of that instead.

I will look for the cherries.

Sammysees · 11/04/2024 18:00

I know Tesco and Morrisons do them. I too have made overnight oats. I have 5 in the freezer that I can take out for work breakfasts. I have a big meal out tomorrow night. Work do. I am going to take some Tupperware for leftovers 😂. Hopefully that will stop me being a greedy guts.

I have a work meal tomorrow as well.

Just to a chain pub, think I will have a veggie dish.

DuckWithOneWing · 11/04/2024 21:38

You've just reminded me that one of the supermarkets used to do something like Frozen Breakfast Blend - I don't know if they still do, but it was a mix of fruits chopped into small pieces and it was really yummy on overnight oats.

I hope you both enjoy your meals out tomorrow!

Today I went for my second run. It was supposed to be yesterday, but my legs really ached after Zumba on Tuesday so I thought it best to postpone it. I found it easier than last time so maybe I'm already getting better.

This weekend I'm going away. I'm going to an event on Sunday, and then will be spending a few days by the seaside. I'll probably end up eating fish and chips and ice cream, but am hoping not to go too far overboard.

Sunshineandrainbow · 12/04/2024 13:33

@DuckWithOneWing that breakfast blend sounds delicious. I will keep a look out for it.

Enjoy your time by the seaside, always good for the soul.

I have had a good week but avoiding scales at the moment as it is not good for me mentally. If I loose I have a blow out day and if I gain I have a blow out day. So no weigh I just carry on!

Sammysees · 13/04/2024 08:51

End of week 4 weigh in
SW - 295lbs
CW - 287lbs
I keep telling myself slow and steady wins the race but oh how I wish I could lose 2 stone a week 😂
