Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

really cool statue @HouseofHolbein ! Nice to hear the outing was a joy.

me...lesson learned about peanut butter...my tablespoon (which should be 90 calories) actually weighted in at 30gm (vs 15) and subsequently means i routinely had WAY (think 4x more than intended). just like the pumpkin seeds a learning curve on weighing stuff vs my measuring spoons.

TheRealHousewife · 06/08/2022 06:35

Good Morning Everyone 😬

@fallfallfall Thats a vibrant crop of rhubarb… enjoy! I like it stewed and I have it with Greek yoghurt 😋. Do you freeze it cooked or raw?

Stunning statue @HouseofHolbein ! Sounds like you had a great time. Not been in a spoons since start of covid, not that I went that often.

@ImALittlePea Well done on losing the gain! Bread and bread products used to affect me … then I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I used to get so very bloated (looked pregnant and even used to develop bruising that was originating from inside my abdominal cavity) Could it be you’re gluten intolerant? It’s important to know if you are as you need to avoid gluten for life. Fingers crossed it isn’t that ! 🤞

@SanFranBear Hope alls well with the scan and that you’re not in too much pain.

@MirandaWest Brave women! Naked photos on phone 😮 Don’t go losing it or leaving it around 😅

Menu
Meal 1 - Salad with either chicken or fish (can’t make mind up haha)
Meal 2 - Chorizo Zaab pasta with home made pasta and cheese sauce.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Morning Yoga
Session 2 - Hand weights.

Enjoy Your Weekend!

Morning... I'm very intrigued by Chorizo Zaab pasta as I love all things chorizo bit tend to avoid a little as it's obviously pretty fatty.. of for a Google.

About to head out for my hair (which will surely lose me significant poundage as it is an utterly mop!) and then back to mainline water so my bladder is nice and full for my scan...

DD has a friend for a sleepover tonight so wanted to make something easy and teen friendly so Pinch of Nom popcorn chicken it is - the small ones can have chips, I will be virtuous and make mine into a ceasar salad type meal. Need to after drinking a leeetle too much red wine yesterday and having one too many After Eights (which I didn't realise were made by evil Nestle so last time of buying them 😥)

Have a great weekend, everyone (p.s and tmi, but I got my period this morning which means hopefully yesterday's slight gain really was just a bit of water and I shall continue my downward trend next week!)

SanFranBear · 06/08/2022 08:40

OMG... zaab sounds delicious and sooo flavoursome! Feel free to drop your recipe here, RealHousewife 😁

Benjispruce4 · 06/08/2022 10:44

Family birthday yesterday so feasted on delicious pulled pork rolls(x2) and fizz. Did play rounders too which involved a fair bit of running. Going to avoid scales……
Happy weekend!

ImALittlePea · 06/08/2022 10:55

Hmm I don't think I am intolerant to gluten @TheRealHousewife I've always had a very bread heavy diet. But I suppose cant hurt to investigate!

fallfallfall · 06/08/2022 14:22

@TheRealHousewife i freeze it raw (chopped in 1 inch segments). I make up a big batch of fruit stew with it (and other fruit) and sometimes need to freeze that as some batches end up too big to use up in a weeks time. This weeks batch is; rhubarb, apple, peach, apricot and plum all fruits I have bagged and in the freezer.
dh uses it when we have crepes every sunday…on his oatmeal, yogurt and ice cream. Cheap Vit C and fiber the lot of fruit I store up will carry us the year. handy in the winter.

SanFranBear · 06/08/2022 21:28

My scan showed the all clear for my kidneys, ovaries and bladder - phew. However, I appear to have at least one gallstone and an enlarged spleen (although that may be down to recovery from an infection/virus). Need to follow it up with my GP but it's all a bit 😯as whilst I was hoping for some answers, this is a little worrying. Hope I didn't change my diet too late... at least I'm eating the right things now!

Going to spend some time with my lovely DS tonight (DD and her friend are hidden away upstairs) and not worry about it as I won't know anything until I speak with my GP - joy!

fallfallfall · 06/08/2022 21:44

Sounds like good news @SanFranBear, a healthy diet never hurts.

TheRealHousewife · 06/08/2022 22:50

Hi @SanFranBear Choritzo ZENB Pasta is a dish I made up. 😬. Home made tomato pasta sauce (fresh & tinned toms, onions, garlic, celery, s&p, fresh chilli, paprika), about 25g Chorizo per person (either sliced or sausage), dollop of cream cheese. Cook ZENB pasta, mix with sauce and grate Parmesan cheese on. Quite tasty.

TheRealHousewife · 06/08/2022 22:55

@fallfallfall sounds a good idea I thin I might try freezing a selection raw ready to stew as needed.

@ImALittlePea i think if you need were intolerant you’d have more symptoms🤞

@SanFranBear sorry to read about your galstone and pleased your other organs ok 👍

Quick post as iPad playing up … it won’t type!

Hi all.

I’m late to the party here but it was my birthday earlier in the week and finished celebrations yesterday…
i am so desperate to lose some weight. I’m 2.5 years post baby so need to stop calling it “baby weight”!

weighed in yesterday so know where I would like to be on the scale eventually.

start weight: 92.7kg
goal weight: 70kg

I’ve got roughly 3 stone to shift but would be happy just to drop a stone at this point!

☀️ positive august vibes ☀️

SanFranBear · 07/08/2022 11:00

Ah, RealHousewife - there was a typo and I did a Google around Zaab food which appears to be Thai and so, combined with the chorizo, sounded like a match made in heaven! Not that yours doesn't, by the way... your tomato sauce sounds really nice!

Welcome aonnnancy and a belated happy birthday! Sounds like you had a super time which is what life is all about! Best of luck kickstarting the new regime...

I'm making turkey bacon butties for me (in a wholemeal think) and DS - DD and friend still in the land of nod! - and will endeavour to stay healthy today after a few days either over or right up to my limit (curse you delicious alcohol in the sun!)

Morning! Just weighed in at 2lb less than 7 days ago 😊 hopefully this weight will come back off as quick as it went on! Still about 5lb to goal 👍

Right I'll be back on after work 👍

fallfallfall · 08/08/2022 05:29

Sounds like a great start to the week!

ginsparkles · 08/08/2022 06:48

Good morning folks. Thanks for all the lovely words about new D dog, she is lovely. Full of mischief but a real cuddly dog. Going through the puppy mouthing stage so we are off to training classes and building DD's confidence around her.

This week didn't go to plan and I tested positive to Covid on Thursday so have been stuck at home with DD, Ddog and chocolate for company.

Even with that the extra dog walks must be doing something as I'm under 12 stone for the first time in I don't know how long.

Todays plan
Lunch spinach and pine nut pasta with salad. Yoghurt and fruit.
Dinner gammon, new potatoes and mixed veggies
Taking a choc biscuit for mid afternoon with a cuppa and a banana in case I get mid morning urges!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 08/08/2022 08:03

Weighed myself this morning at 73kgs exactly so that's 1.3kgs off in 10 days. Feeling pretty positive about this as I don't think I've had to particularly deprive myself to achieve it just focusing on healthier filling main meals, limited processed food and intermittent fasting (I'm not a breakfast person and never had been so this is easy most days) I have still been out for dinner, had my weekend pizza and enjoyed a Sunday night pudding and glass of wine. Hopefully this method will keep working because its the first 'diet' I've done in a long time where I haven't spent the last 10 days obsessing over food what I'm going to eat next etc.

anonnancy · 08/08/2022 09:14

Did food shop yesterday and stocked the fridge with healthy snacks , salads , lean meats etc. much to DHs dismay!!

for brekky I’ve had a lemon curd Greek yog and a cup of tea. For lunch I have cheese & brocoli pasta and for tea is leftover chilli con carne and snacks to get me through mundane Monday is banana, oat cookie and a pot of grapes and strawberries!

aiming to drink 2L water too … 500ml down already. Will be sure to get steps in going to and from the loo!

have a good day everyone x

Benjispruce4 · 08/08/2022 09:46

Morning all. Sorry about Covid @ginsparkles bit glad you have ddog for company. I had it back in May/June. Was ok to start them very tired and lots of headaches and a heavy cild about 10 days later. Don’t know if that was part of it or something else. Hope you’re ok.
Ive had a busy weekend of birthday party, BBQ at friend’s and BBQ at home yesterday.Yeaterday BBQ was lunch and dinner though so that helps and have walked lots every day.Need to rein it in this week now . What a glorious summer! Though I hope the temps don’t go above 30 again!
Welcome to newcomers
B- blueberries, strawberries, 2tbsp Greek yoghurt, tea.
L-salad with leftover BBQ chicken, apple
D- ?

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 08/08/2022 10:01

So on Saturday I ate:

B: half a bagel with peanut butter and margarine
Lunch: Couscous veggie salad and Cathedral City lighter cheese slices
Snacks: apricot flapjacks, 4 x tiny apricots, 1 x nectarine
Dinner: quarter quiche lorraine, baked potato (small) and salad

Saturday evening - lots of vomiting - think it was couscous veggie salad as it was a few days past the date (it was sold on offer) and opened for 1-2 days.

Sunday: B: had plain toast with margarine
Lunch: 4 x crackerwheat 2 with margarine, 2 without.
Snacks: 2 x Rich Tea lighter biscuits
Dinner: Plain omelette and small baked potato

Managed 2 x 20 minute walks round park yesterday and an afternoon (2 hours?) trailing round National Trust garden (Emmetts Garden if interested).

@HouseofHolbein - your boat trip sounds and looks amazing!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 08/08/2022 10:03

@ginsparkles - your spinach and pesto pine nut salad is one I got from Sainsburys for lunch this week when I go to work.

@Benjispruce4 - do you not get hungry without grains (granola, muesli etc) with just the yogurt/berries?

ginsparkles · 08/08/2022 10:08

@GonnaGetGoingReturns .... Saturday night sounds awful! Hope your feeling all better. And yes the sainsburys one! I really like that one

Ha! yes I am feeling a bit better! thanks! That'll teach me not to eat a pre-prepared couscous salad after you open it and leave it 2-3 days - I bought it when it's had a best before date of 3rd August but Waitrose were selling it off cheap.

Sainsburys salads (I also like the giant couscous and feta cheese one) are nice.

PinkStarAtNight · 08/08/2022 10:41

Hi all!

Really sorry, I dropped off last month as life got very busy and stressful and therefore my diet plan went off course.

BUT glad to join the new thread and have started afresh this month. I finally signed up for my four months free trial of Weightwatchers that my GP referred me to. I downloaded the app and put in all my info last night, so I'm ready to start today.
For the first week, I'm going to continue with my plan of 800 - 1000 cals per day and count those, but also 'track' everything on the WW app which will add up how many WW points I'm using, so by the end of the week I'll have an idea of how the calories I've been having align with the WW points. After that I'll review my meal plans. There's a virtual meeting on WW tonight which I'm going to force myself to join.

Weighed myself this morning - 187lbs. My starting weight when I joined July's thread was 190lbs. So I suppose that's an overall loss of 3lbs since starting. After the inconsistent month I've had I'm quite impressed with that!

However I want to stay consistent and start losing 2lbs a week from now on. I need to start moving more as well, so plan is to go for a walk this evening after work. (Working from home really makes its hard to be active!)

Well done on everyone for your losses. Here's to a productive month!
