Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Well done @Slightlystressedbride @wannadisc0 @MirandaWest !

Congrats on the maintain @Lizsmum

Keep the faith @Benjispruce4 .. it's probably the pesky carbs. I'm sure it'll be gone as quickly as it came

Haven't done a wow this week as it's not been a true week with the trip to the lakes so I'll be wowing next week!

Good luck everyone

Rewis · 03/08/2022 08:42

I'm back! End of summer, new me or some shit.

SW: 88.4kg
GW:79.9 kg

ButteryNuts · 03/08/2022 08:43

Hi everyone.

Some of you might remember me from the June thread. I started at 13st 2 and managed to achieve quite a lot in that month.

Well July was a bust! I was sticking to my diet 4 days out of the week but going crazy the other days. Overall I loosely maintained.

SW: 13st 2
CW: 12st 1
1st GW: 11st

Gufo · 03/08/2022 09:15

Hi, can I join? I lost a stone between April and July but have been hovering around the same weight on a frustrating plateau for the past few weeks.

Doing IF and have upped the exercise but will make more of an effort to quit the snacks that have snuck in. Running makes me ravenous and the school hols make me reach for the crisps more.

SW: 11 stone 2 - been this since 5 July according to my fitbit - sometimes 11.3, sometimes 11.1

GW for Aug: 10 stone something! Once i get there I'll make a proper plan.

SanFranBear · 03/08/2022 09:24

Thanks for your kind words, everyone. It'll work out, I'm sure!

Is that a new doggy, Gin???

Well done all WoW'ers - some great losses and even the STS are a good result. Agree that anything upwards will likely dissappear in the next couple of days as you've all been so mindful.

And welcome to the new bods - always great to have more people! Right... need to get up and start the day proper!

ginsparkles · 03/08/2022 09:44

@SanFranBear it is! The house felt empty and DD was desperately sad. So we discovered this pretty little girl on a rescue site and adopted her.

Benjispruce4 · 03/08/2022 09:46

Oh @ginsparkles thats marvellous. My rescue is such a love. 🤗

CrimsonAlligator · 03/08/2022 10:04

Morning all! 74.4 kg on the scales for me this morning, which is exactly the same as it was last week. I’m ok with that to be honest as I know I’ve, once again, not had the most consistent week.

My plan for today is:

Breakfast: Skyr yoghurt, banana, mixed seeds and muesli
Lunch: Falafel, salad & pitta with a small glass of some new soy protein drink I found in the supermarket last night
Dinner: Pasta with roasted vegetables and goats cheese, rocket & pine nuts

In other news, I bought a book on sport nutrition yesterday. I’ve only read the first chapter and it’s already answered all the questions I had, so can’t wait to see what I might learn from the rest of the book!

Well done to everyone who’s lost weight, or stayed the same (that’s also a win, if you’ve been eating more than usual!)

Your house search sounds really frustrating and I can imagine it feel a bit unsettling as well @SanFranBear . I hope you find something you like very soon.

CrimsonAlligator · 03/08/2022 10:06

How did I miss the dog update?! She’s absolutely gorgeous @ginsparkles !

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 03/08/2022 12:47

OK so lunch yday was:

4 x Ryvita Crackerwheat slices with margarine and Quorn spinach and red pepper slices (about 2 per Crackerwheat I think), plus cucumber sticks and cherry tomatoes and also Bachelors Minestrone Slim a Soup. also had Sun Bites Sour Cream and chives and a Nak'd Blueberry Muffin bar.

Dinner was veggie and tofu stir fry with rice.

Also had 1 x nectarine.

Walk was one 20 minute walk around park.

Breakfast this morning: granola, blueberries, skyr yogurt and honey drizzle
Snack: Vegan sausage roll (Greggs)
Lunch: 4 x crackerwheat, 1 slice Quorn red pepper and spinach on 2 slices and 1 x boiled egg on other slices, plus cucumber sticks and cherry tomatoes. Ryvita Sun Bites if I fancy them.

Sorry about the house @SanFranBear , hope you find another one soon. It must be a real struggle if you can't magically increase the hours or if you'd like to increase them but no before/after school childcare! My SIL is the main higher earner in her marriage with DB and their son is due to start school in September, luckily they have breakfast and after school clubs there but they've found nursery fees in London to be absolutely crippling, plus mortgage.

I had my last bridge/implant appointment today (not happy with dentist at all, private, cost almost £5K!) so had the sausage roll as a kind of treat. My plantar fasciitis in one left foot has been killing me for the past few weeks, seeing a podiatrist soon to help me with it. Doesn't help when you're limping around. Sad

Not weighed myself today. Will do later.

@ginsparkles - the dog is gorgeous! I wish I could get a dog but I fear the cat wouldn't be impressed at all - and she moved in with me after a dog moved into her home with her sister (they both moved out when the puppy/dog arrived!).

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 03/08/2022 12:48

PS @ginsparkles - welcome to the dog! She'll give you an incentive for walks!

Sadly cats aren't quite on the same level re walks!

Tirednortherner · 03/08/2022 13:16

Hello

can I join? I’ve been on and off various threads in various names in the past.

Lost 2st10lbs, have another 1st8lbs to go.

Calorie counting but only a slight deficit 1700 cals - this is what works for me, have never had such success before.

Got back from an AI holiday where I gained 3 lbs, have lost all this from a few days of 1700 cals ish. Seem to be settling back into my 0.5-2lbs a week loss pattern which suits me down to the ground.

Just over 5 weeks until my next city break, would like to be in the lower end of 10 stone (currently 10st8).

ginsparkles · 03/08/2022 13:46

Thanks all, she's 10 months old so keeping us on our toes but so affectionate it's hard to stay cross when she's mischievous!!!

Hopefully the extra hours dog walking we help shift this weight!

Ravenclawdropout · 03/08/2022 15:33

I hope I can join you a few days in! I have been focusing on losing weight and getting physically fit for a few months. I had cancer and fully recovered but my recovery from the effects took a few years. I got off pain killers during COVID and have recently finally had the motivation to get in shape.

I was just over 10 stone and a size 8-10 (US 4-6) before I was diagnosed. I worked out a lot, including weight training 3x a week.

I have been weight training for a few months and gradually gaining strength and stamina. I have been lazy with cardio. I cut out simple carbs and cut down on sugar, increased veggies and protein.

Started at 185lb (13.2 stone) now at 174lb (12.4 stone). I am in the USA where they don't use stone so I usually think in terms of losing 10lb at a time now rather than stone (been here too long!). Happy to have lost my first 10lb and looking to gradually keep moving in the right direction. I was a US size 12 (UK 16) and have lost some inches so I am down to a 10 (14). My stomach has really gone down, no more muffin top! 😄

Daffyaboutdaffs · 03/08/2022 16:10

Well done all. I have stayed the same after losing 5lbs last week. I had hoped to get under the 12 stone mark but fingers crossed for next week.

TheRealHousewife · 03/08/2022 17:05

Ladies apologies that I’m late to the party today. It’s been a bit busy today.

I eventually got my electronic scale connected to wi-if yesterday and had a weight … down another 1lb. I though … nar… it’s wonky. Weighed again this morning and I’m 1.1lb down in 3 days 😳 😮. Should I be worried as my weight has been pretty stable for about 10 months and assumed I had reached my bodies maintenance mode. I’ve not changed anything other than being more consistent with moving more each day and weighing out most portions/cc and sticking to my limit 🤷‍♀️

@SanFranBear Sorry to read about your disappointment with the house criteria! I have everything crossed for you that you’ll soon have your dream home! I can feel it in my water that it’s just around the corner 😬

@ginsparkles Totally love your rescue … what an absolute cutie 😍 I know what you mean about the house feeling too empty without a fur baby. They definitely turn houses into a home!

@wannadisc0 Fabulous start! Well done 👍

@Daffyaboutdaffs STS is ok, better than a gain. I understand your frustration though! Remember weight loss isn’t linear.

@Ravenclawdropout Waving across the pond 👋 Great to read you’ve recovered from cancer! It’s a tough journey. 10lb increments is fine and each segment will be like a mini goal. Well done on your loss to date 👍👏

Welcome to the thread @Tirednortherner. Fantastic that you’ve lost a significant amount already. You obviously know what works for you 👍. 3lb gain for an AI is very good really. Years ago when I did a 4 week cruise I put on about 20lbs 😳😮😆 Clearly too much Champagne and too many canapés 😬

@GonnaGetGoingReturns Wow dentistry is expensive these days! I bet you have a dazzling smile 😃 I get foot pain too coupled with numbness on the inside of both feet (due to spinal cord injury) which causes me to be clumsy and trip up a lot. I hope you find some relief soon!

Welcome to the thread @Gufo 👍. Jump right in, the ladies on here are awesome 👏

@Rewis & @ButteryNuts welcome back, it’s great to see you active on the thread again. Set your intentions, reaffirm your goals and get stuck in with gusto 😬

Hi @Mummytogg you sound an extremely busy mum! Don’t forget yourself in all that is going off ❤️

Well done to everyone who has lost this past week and well done to those who haven’t but are keeping the faith. Sorry if I’ve missed anyone but this post is getting long and I’m frightened I’m going to lose it like I did the other day so posting before it goes pooof!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

well done @TheRealHousewife the battle of the scale and the routine sounds like a win win :)
i love the pup! congrat @ginsparkles
welcome to the new people
late to the party as usual but i'm holding up my end by being focused. down 1.5 since last Wednesday, now 148.7 (saw 148.5) yesterday.

GoodnightRain · 03/08/2022 17:43

Oh guys, I've fallen off the wagon already. I've been doing the 16:8 and that's been going well - I've stuck to that. But then the food I've been eating, especially today, is not ideal. Been out lots so have ended up getting food out and not making healthy choices. I always fail, really struggle with food.

Lots of inspiration here though, well done everyone.

Tirednortherner · 03/08/2022 17:55

Thanks @TheRealHousewife it took years of false starts and non attempts to get this much success, partly aided by new medications.

Had a Chinese this evening (veg curry, boiled rice and a few chips - not finished it all yet) so allowed 1000 cals for that. Had cheese, cherry toms and Pom bears for a lunch snack earlier. Pepsi max to drink and lots of water.

fallfallfall · 03/08/2022 17:58

@GoodnightRain can you explain a bit more. It’s hard with so many thread members to remember the history.
how long were you doing 16/8 and how successful were you. What food choices did you make and can you foresee ways to improve them.
you can take away a positive perspective on this as we are all learning better food choices for our bodies.
its not a fail, it’s an opportunity to fine tune what will work for you long term.

GoodnightRain · 03/08/2022 18:31

@fallfallfall thanks so much for replying. A bit embarrassing but I literally started on Monday! So a pretty swift decline. I have stuck to only eating in the 8 hour window but have not ate healthily today (didn't do too great yesterday either). I think lots of the time lack of organisation is what does it, I also think that I have a bit of an addiction to junk food so definitely need to work out how to break the cycle.

HouseofHolbein · 03/08/2022 18:43

Hello! I just had a chippy tea 😱 I am back to 16:8 not tracking it just not eating after my evening meal until lunchtime 😊 and drinking lots of water. Let's see how this works out 😊

fallfallfall · 03/08/2022 18:54

@GoodnightRain what is your 8hr window and how active are you.
trying something new and messing up is not a fail it's learning what works best for you.
my dh and i are older, are very set to 3 meals a day. we have been successful at delaying breakfast to 0930, lunch as usual and supper cooked and eaten by 5:30 pm at which time that's it.

what choices do you think were unhealthy? calorific or just weird manufactured stuff? what do you have available?

GoodnightRain · 03/08/2022 19:03

Hi @fallfallfall - thank you for your compassion. So it's 10am - 6pm. I would say I'm active in the sense of going out lots with the little ones, playing with them and walking on our days out but nothing other than that, also wouldn't say I get much vigorous exercise in if that all makes sense? I had a McDonalds tonight as we were late home and didn't plan dinner, which is not ideal! Had a mozzarella panini at the lunch too 😬. The small wins are that I haven't snacked at all the last three days and have stuck to the three meals, which is working well. But yes definitely need to get a bit more organised for a greater chance of success. I think one of my other issues is I feel a bit overwhelmed by all the different diets and plans and then don't know what to do/follow, what's good/bad etc. I used to have success on slimming world, which is quite carb heavy but then read a lot about reducing carbs. Lots of conflicting advice and I'm not sure which path to follow!

fallfallfall · 03/08/2022 19:59

@GoodnightRain all the diets out there all calorie restrict be it low carb high protein low fat. once the math is done all are rather low calorie i gather from some older documentation about 500 calories a day less than what a person not on a diet would consume.
you know depending on where you got your panini, if it's made with a nice bread and a good cheese it's not going to be the end of you. cut the panini in half and make sure you have cucumbers celery pepper tomatoes an apple some from of something fresh to go with it (for the vitamins and for the fiber).
the mcdonald's grilled chicken snack wrap has 240 calories again pair that with some fiber rich veggies even fiber rich fruit and you will still have a somewhat healthy meal.
i know it's hard with kids (i certainly couldn't do a diet with that level of commotion) but veggie prep goes a long long way. cut cleaned veggies in a sealed container for a quick side dish or snack.
