Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

@CrimsonAlligator@Womblealongwithme fiber is also important in preventing colon cancer.

Gufo · 28/08/2022 07:24

Checking in to share this recipe- low cal (apparently - I used reduced fat coconut milk), veggie, and even the kids liked it. I would add more red paste next time for more of a kick: potato curry www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/satay-sweet-potato-curry/

RadFad · 29/08/2022 08:25

I've had such a food filled 4 days with DD birthday celebrations and both me and DH being off work. Im dreading the scales on Wednesday.

I find it tricky to get back on track after something like this and find it derails me for weeks/months.

How do others get back on track after an indulgent few days?

Allthegoodnamestakken · 29/08/2022 09:46

@MirandaWest Well done! that is a serious run. I can't get past 5km, I blame the altitude but really its just my lungs being a bit pathetic.
@RadFad Hope your DD had a lovely birthday, I find cravings are hard after a few days of indulgence usually getting on the scales helps me try and get back n track either a shock that I haven't gained keeping me motivated to loose or the shock of however much i've gained kick starting me into wanting to loose it.
I weighed myself this morning as I forgot on saturday, I was 70.5kg so hoping this sticks for Wednesdays weigh in as it will mean I am half way to my GW of 65kg.
Do have a 5 day holiday in a couple of weeks so hoping to loose as much as possible by then as I know a lot of wine and good food will be eaten (hoping to counteract that somewhat with some hikes planned)

HouseofHolbein · 29/08/2022 10:11

Went out last night. Lots of alcohol also lots of dancing. Love silent disco 🤣🤣

Slightlystressedbride · 29/08/2022 10:17

@RadFad I hear you! It was my hen do this weekend and the scales this morning were an unwelcome shock!
The main thing to remember is that it's primarily water weight you've put on - carbs (esp sugar!) help your body hang onto water so that will be much of your weight gain. Your body can't produce several pounds of fat over only a small number of days so the main thing is not to panic!
It's not for everyone but having done Dukan diet in the past I find a couple of days of the Attack phase gets me back on track. This means lean protein only (ie chicken, eggs, lean beef, any fish etc and low fat dairy) and nothing else. It's pretty hardcore so definitely not for everyone but I think the principle remains so you could do that and add in light veg so eg make a nice omelette for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch, healthy stir fry for dinner etc. You will get rid of most of the water weight gain really quickly doing that.
But the main thing is don't throw the towel in and don't panic!

fallfallfall · 29/08/2022 14:59

I certainly needed that pep talk @Slightlystressedbride thank you. Dh wasn’t enthused by my meal planning and we dined out more than hiked…no bike…and several hours of driving. But I got to see youngest ds and his lovely gf.
ready to get back on track with no desserts on the menu and WATER. I certainly didn’t have my 2l a day.

DeclansAFeckingDream · 29/08/2022 15:30

Does anyone else really struggle with drinking so much water? I really do try to drink 2l a day and have an 800 ml bottle and manage two of them at a push but god I struggle with much more.

DeclansAFeckingDream · 29/08/2022 15:47

Thanks for that, that's a bit bigger than the one I've got so might be better. It's just so ... dull. 😂

RadFad · 29/08/2022 16:54

@Allthegoodnamestakken definitely weighing myself this morning gave me a kick up the bum, just need to drop the 'it's a bank holiday, let's start in the morning' thinking. Maybe I'll just go straight to sleep after the kids are down 😅.

@Slightlystressedbride thank you, that's a really good way to think about it!

RadFad · 29/08/2022 16:55

@DeclansAFeckingDream would adding some no added sugar squash to your water help? I find that helps when I'm just not feeling water and I have to drink a lot due to medication I take.

Rewis · 29/08/2022 18:01

This is a gym rant. I know I'm unreasonable but I don't care!

Decided to go to gym class. Its a 30min cardio-strnetg combo. It's nice cause I can modify it depending on the mood. Went to the changing rooms. Why are all the women in there so hot and fit? Like where do all the chubby average people go to gymming? I've noticed in the past few months that I'm the only overweight person at the gym. Where are my people at? I don't get fatshamed, we don't communicate with anyone or anything. But why is everyone so damn good looking? 😅

Rewis · 29/08/2022 18:04

@DeclansAFeckingDream this is not the answer you're looking for. But I just don't. I have a water bottle and then some sparkling water next to me on the desk. I drink what I drink but I really don't want to force it.

CrimsonAlligator · 29/08/2022 20:32

@Rewis, clearly anyone who hangs out in your gym for long enough automatically becomes a hot, fit woman. That’s why you’re not seeing many overweight women there. Give it time and you too will become a hot, fit woman! 😁On a more serious note though, I’d find that kind of gym really intimidating. I’m sure a lot of overweight women would feel the same and that might be why you’re not seeing many of them?

@DeclansAFeckingDream I think I’m in the minority here in that I don’t find it that hard to drink 2 litres a day. I think the trick is to have a bit of variety. I drink a lot of herbal tea and add slices of lemon, or cucumber to my water etc. I also add electrolyte tablets to my water when I’m exercising, which make me a little bit more thirsty and therefore likely to drink more.

Rewis · 29/08/2022 21:57

@CrimsonAlligator I'm going to assume I'll become hot after a fee visits! The thing is that it's not actually "hot gym". It's the cheapest chain in towns. Has basic gym and some classes (les Mills and own). Like, my dad is 70 and goes to the same gym with his best mate. Maybe I was just at the very awkward time. Who knows. Can't get a face-lift but maybe soon I'll be one of the twig bitches /s 😅

SanFranBear · 30/08/2022 10:08

Morning all... thread has moved on somewhat but wanted to get my mind back in the right place after my incredibly lax weekend.

Had the very best of times and saw some bands/artists I've been waiting a long time to see but my goodness, I didn't even think about what was going in for the entire four days! My calories on Friday, other than one bowl of weetabix, were pure alcohol so had to then eat through the ensuing hangover and festival food is not exactly well balanced! We did walk and walk and walk though and our accommodation was about 40 minutes from the arena so we'd done a decent amount of exercise just getting there and back every day but I'm feeling pretty sluggish and know that Thursdays weigh in (seeing as it's the 1st of the month) won't be pretty!

Ah well - last of the summer blowouts and we're almost back to term time routine which will hopefully help get my head back in the game. If it helps any, RadFad, I struggle to get back into the right frame of mind too - it's like all the indulgent switches have been switched back on hard and it takes a lot of willpower to reset!

I go to my University when I want a good swim so you can imagine the difference between all the toned and fit 18-25 year old and me, middle-agedly going up and down the lanes! I just crack on and have learnt to appreciate their youth and vitality... it gives the whole place an energy that I love!

Sorry not to name check everyone but hopefully this last little push towards the end of the month will reap rewards for us all!

SanFranBear · 30/08/2022 10:11

Argh - my university chat was for Rewis! Got to get back into the swing of posting, too 😁

Morning @DeclansAFeckingDream Cross posted … Hows you today?

OP posts:
DeclansAFeckingDream · 30/08/2022 11:46

Not too bad this morning - my supply of healthy snacks is running low so I'm off to Lidl to replenish so that I don't give in to temptation. I went almost 100 over my allowance yesterday which is normally the time I say to myself 'well I might as well break open the biscuits', but I didn't so I feel quite encouraged by that.

Going to weigh myself tomorrow and see how my first week has gone. I'll try not to be too disappointed if I haven't lost much because I know I've pretty much been sticking to my plan so I know I'm on the right track anyway.

TheRealHousewife · 30/08/2022 12:31

@DeclansAFeckingDream im sure you’ll see a loss! Good luck on the healthy snack hunt … tip … don’t go when hungry or you’ll not choose as well 😬

RadFad · 31/08/2022 06:53

Final weigh in for August shows a 3lb gain.
That's a total of 1lb lost. Disappointed but also acknowledged that if I hadn't have lost the 4lb to begin with I would have gained more than SW whilst on annual leave.

Draw a line, back to work today and ready to achieve 7lb loss in September.
