Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

@GoodnightRain just a quickie from me as my battery has almost died...

When I started with 16:8 I didn't worry too much about what I ate in the window I just made sure I didn't eat outside of that if that makes sense. Automatically not eating snacks after tea helped me lose weight without doing much else.

Once you have your head around eating during a set period you can then start looking at what you are actually eating. I found that I fell into decent food choices by accident almost because I wanted food that would carry me through to midday from the evening before

Don't try to change too much in one go otherwise you will get overwhelmed. This is a lifestyle change not a diet 😊

Good luck! Speak tomorrow x 🪫

GoodnightRain · 03/08/2022 20:45

Thanks so much @HouseofHolbein and @fallfallfall definitely motivated me to be more positive going into tomorrow! 💪

SanFranBear · 03/08/2022 21:06

Excellent advice there, fallfall and Holbein - this is why I love this thread.

Mind you, I've not made the healthiest choice for my dinner - nachos followed by chocolate popcorn - but I did make it out for my WoW. Walked through so many nettles in my shorts that my legs are still tingling!! I didn't do the vineyard as my friend wasn't able to join me today so I was able to go much further afield. As DC away an extra night tomorrow, we're on plan for then instead. Although not the best of meal plans, it doesn't eat into my exercise calories too heavily so I'm OK with that (and they were both yummy!)

Here is a lovely swan in a lovely river!

Todays work.
All peeled now and ready to jar tomorrow, I’ll preserve them in olive oil in the fridge. They will be gone in six weeks I’m sure.
PS the finished peeled peppers looks a lot like raw meat so I’d didn’t post.

Those look delicious @fallfallfall .

Benjispruce4 · 04/08/2022 08:53

Whoop! The 3lb gain has been lost. Was prob just water and waste as usual.
Yesterday:
B-avocado on toast
L-pitta pocket with beetroot and feta and salad, apple
D-Roasted chicken thighs x2 with some baby potatoes and roasted peppers and courgettes.
Looks lovely @fallfallfall

TheRealHousewife · 04/08/2022 09:06

@Benjispruce4 Well done on dumping the gain! 👍👏

Those peppers look tasty @fallfallfall 😋

@SanFranBear The scenery looks awesome! Hope your legs have recovered! Stinging rash is very uncomfortable 🥴

@Tirednortherner Youre very welcome. Well done on choosing healthier Chinese dishes 👍

I’ve worked out why I’m losing posts. Previously my keyboard started from the bottom of the screen … now there is a small gap that has clickable links :( As I’m uncoordinated it’s now very easy for me to be taken to another view and return to find my post gone. Is it like this for anyone else?

Menu
Meal 1 - Salmon Salad.
Meal 2 - Chicken and vegetable tray bake.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Ah well done benji, knew it was water weight. Onwards and upwards!

Slightlystressedbride · 04/08/2022 12:00

*downwards!!! Haha

Benjispruce4 · 04/08/2022 12:06

Thanks! Yes definitely downwards! 😜

Benjispruce4 · 04/08/2022 20:42

B- toasted crumpet with mashed avo
L- small tin of sardines with salad, apple
D- baked potato with small amount of cheddar cheese and beans
over 14000 steps( on phone so more in reality)

SanFranBear · 04/08/2022 21:00

Hope everyone has had a successful Thursday, however you're measuring that at the moment.

I've eaten pretty well (and have smoked haddock baking in the oven as I type.. my favourite!) and managed our vineyard walk. We didn't realise there's a folk festival happening in one of the villages and the public footpath went right through both campsites so we felt right at home (and managed a quick festival toilet wee as well - ah, memories!) Think the plan is for us to be there next year - it looked glorious!

Also good news today, my kidney scan has been moved forward to this Saturday! So much quicker than expected and will hopefully answer the questions around what's causing me so much pain.

So all in, a good day. Its my weigh day tomorrow so keeping it all crossed for a decent loss - well, any loss would be good as still got a ways to go! But for now, shall sip my Crabbies Rhubarb Ginger Beer (who knew!!) as it tastes sooo good!

HouseofHolbein · 04/08/2022 21:16

Today I have done 20k steps and had a lovely walk to the beach 😊 had an ice cream which was amazing. Burger and chips for tea 👍

Tomorrow I am going on a boat trip to ilfracombe with the husband and youngest child 😊 which will be fun then probably have a wander down to the mini music festival that's going on in the park this weekend 😊

MirandaWest · 04/08/2022 23:04

Am continuing to not snack which I am sure helps me. Was looking back ag MFP from when I lost weight before and was probably eating about the same amount of calories but was walking a lot more. Averaging over 20,000 a day compared with about 14,000 a day at the moment. Will try and up the walking - having looked at my Fitbit I was regularly doing three lots of walk/run per day so may need to take up the after work walk as well.

Also I got DH to take some naked photos of me - did that a couple of years ago too and hoping I will again see parts of me shrinking!

fallfallfall · 05/08/2022 03:00

Someone had to mention rhubarb ehhhh?? Second crop of the season.
Free Vit C and fiber. My cheap way to avoid buying fruit in the winter. The freezers almost full.
147.9 no complaints.

Benjispruce4 · 05/08/2022 06:59

@fallfallfall you’re shrinking! Remember when you couldn’t get below 150? Well done 👏🏻 I love rhubarb too.
@MirandaWest be careful what he does with those!😂😳

MirandaWest · 05/08/2022 07:10

@Benjispruce4 they’re on my phone (and safely in the hidden folder 😂)

I have a lot of driving to do today and so less time for moving. Also not sure what my eating will be like as I’ll be grabbing whatever I can find I should think. But today is only one day and so it will be fine.

Benjispruce4 · 05/08/2022 07:11

Glad to hear it @MirandaWest . I vote packed lunch!

SanFranBear · 05/08/2022 09:13

You're brave, Miranda - can't remember the last time I took naked photos... catching a glimpse in the morning is enough for me!

And boo for my weigh in - it's only 0.2kg up but it's still up! That said, I'm due on so presume it's water weight and will hope next week sees a good loss:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 75.8kg
August GW: 72kg

Just cooking some eggs for breakfast and will have a dinky lunch as am out seeing a lovely friend I made jver lockdown... she's hosting a bbq for me and a little games night - I can't wait. I need to be careful re alcohol as am up early tomorrow for a haircut and then my kidney scan!

Impressive haul, fallfall - I got a few stalks dropped off by a friend yesterday too but probably get one cake and a crumble our of mine - you'll be able to make a cornucopia of fun things with that!

Enjoy your boat trip, Holbein.. sounds like a lovely few days.

Hope everyone has a super Friday... practically the weekend!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 05/08/2022 12:15

So I had a migraine yesterday - started in middle of the night and ended up waking up at 11.15am yesterday which is rare for me.

Breakfast ended up being: marmite and peanut butter on vogel bread (toast).
No lunch but 4 crackerwheat with cheese on 2 of them and margarine on other.
Snacks: 2 x digestive biscuits, 1 x Nak'd bakewell tart bar, 1 x nectarine and 4 x apricots, 1 x greek yogurt with honey, 2 x dark chocolate rice cakes (Itsu?).
Dinner: Lentil pie which my DM made and brought round in week plus small bit of rice and salad

Today: B: greek yoghurt and blueberries (Skyr is in shopping delivery for tomorrow).
Lunch: half of waitrose couscous salad and cheddar cheese (reduced fat).

@GoodnightRain - I tend to agree with @fallfallfall re diet - not all of it is bad. Re your panini. You could have half and either share it or take it away to eat for later.

What I've done sometimes e.g. on weekends is have slice of toast but with scrambled/poached egg and/or bagel with peanut butter. Which really fills me up and sometimes I don't even need lunch or just need a small lunch.

Look at things like Ryvita Crackerwheat - way lower in calories than e.g. bread. You can add toppings to it. If you like boiled eggs they're a good 'snack' or to add to salads etc.

I personally like the idea and try to stick to it of having protein and small amount of carbs, at least with meals - so, a palm sized amount of e.g. pasta/rice with meals and half a small potato otherwise.

I wouldn't always deny yourself the odd bit of chocolate but try to replace snacks with e.g. fruit/veg - carrot sticks e.g.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 05/08/2022 12:18

@Benjispruce4 - your breakfast for yesterday sounds yummy - favourite breakfast out used to be avocado smash on toasted sourdough. I thought avocado was evil due to fat (even though healthy?).

@SanFranBear - was just looking at your stats for your weight-loss - you've done so well! I think all the extra 'stuff' re meeting friends/festivals etc really add up in terms of happiness and therefore hopefully losing weight at the same time!

Benjispruce4 · 05/08/2022 13:07

@GonnaGetGoingReturns i only have half a small hass avocado at a time so that’s about 110 cals. The nutrition is good and the fats are healthy. In one slice of seedy toast the total is under 250 .

Benjispruce4 · 05/08/2022 13:07

On one slice.

ImALittlePea · 05/08/2022 15:30

Omg! I've not been online for most of the week and the thread has moved SO quickly. I don't have time to @ everyone but cheering you all on with losses, NSVs and those with gains but looking forward and not backwards!

So glad you've found a new pup to love @ginsparkles, I'm not a dog person myself but he (she?) looks very sweet!

Second week of summer has been trickier, I think partly because I was eating more bread and it was affecting my mood?! Does anyone else find that? I do enjoy it when it's part of a dinner such as burger or pizza, but any more that just bloats and slugs me.

DH is now off for a few days; we were due to be going on holiday but we've changed our plans for various reasons. So we've planned a few things in with friends this weekend and some local days out with the kids instead. Looking forward to an extra pair of hands for a few days, haha!

I was utterly convinced I was going to gain again this week - but I've somehow lost the 1lb 4oz that I put on last week?! Not sure how (maybe the change to my meal plan strategy has helped as I've definitely snacked less?) but I'm going to take that!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and the sun stays shining ☀️

And good luck for your scan tomorrow @SanFranBear

HouseofHolbein · 05/08/2022 17:10

Back from my boat trip where I saw the gorgeous Verity from the sea 💕

Had burger and chips in spoons plus a pint and a half of cider. Was most excellent 👍
