Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Afternoon and happy August!

Breakfast: blueberries, granola, Skyr yoghurt and small drizzle honey
Lunch: Cathedral City lighter cheese on Vogel bread with margarine and Branston pickle plus Bachelors Slim a Soup minestrone
Snacks: Sunbites Cheese and Chive and Nak'd lemon drizzle bar
Drinks: tea with skimmed milk, green tea and orange squash in water.
Dinner: no idea.
Exercise - nothing yet.

I think I need a reset button! I'm really feeling for some reason like I need a kick up the arse, aka motivation!

@ginsparkles - your diet sounds more like mine with the Kit Kat!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 01/08/2022 17:22

@fallfallfall - I take same as you but more stuff for menopause so:

Menopace Max, sage tablets, then some buckthorn omega tablets for dry eyes. Plus iron tablets (Floradix), levothyroxine, oxybutin and magnesium (for sleep).

How I wish I was back in my 20s/30s where I didn't need to worry about any of the above!

Slightlystressedbride · 01/08/2022 18:44

Happy August everyone! Thanks so much @TheRealHousewife for these threads, really lovely group of ladies 😊
I am WoW so won't mess up my train of thought by posting a 1st August weight, I've had a bit of a relaxed weekend too but getting back on track this week.
Month and a half or so to go now, which DP has reminded me is 13% of a year, so we've definitely got aaaages to do all the things we still have to do....aaages

TheRealHousewife · 01/08/2022 19:21

Evening All 😊

Hope you’ve all had a good day!

@ginsparkles Walking twice a day should make a difference. Let us posted 👍

Welcome to the thread @Allthegoodnamestakken . The plan you’ve loosely outlines sounds sensible. Keeping consistent and remaining mindful will get you there. Good luck!

@fallfallfall My reasons for losing are similar to yours plus my joints/back/muscles prefer less to carry around.

As requested @GonnaGetGoingReturns 1 large kick up the 🍑 😬There’s one in the sidelines waiting for you for tomorrow morning too!

@Slightlystressedbride Getting exciting now … 13%/year. Soon be here Mrs😆

Enjoy your evenings All.

Hellooo team 👋 happy August!

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

Well I ended July 1/2lb down overall, but loss is loss so no dwelling on the fact I was nearly 2lb down and hitting the 1.5stone milestone (promise!)

I'm completely ignoring how bad my weekend was diet wise. And same goes for today, although I've been at a theme park all day with the 7yo; 6 hours non stop on your feet must count for something? 🤔

I feel like I've hit 'holiday mode' and a bit of a wall on tandem, so I'm going to consider a strategy revision before doing the food shop tomorrow. With both kids around all the time the temptation to join them in snacks (and end the days with wine) is too great, so my trusty cup-a-soup and veggies lunch isn't going to cut the mustard, I don't think.

I think my goal for August needs to be to not gain overall. I'd also still like to have more non drinking days than drinking days. I'll probably pick one or two things that are sneaking in to cut out completely for the month (possibly takeaway). I'm better with rules, I've realised.

Also - YES how amazing were our ladies over the last few weeks, and especially last night. Totally inspired, and also quietly amused with all the men suddenly and a little bit sheepishly coming out in support of them (my DH included).

Here's to another month cheering each other on through life and weight loss 🥳

RadFad · 01/08/2022 22:09

I'd like to join. I have around 6st to lose to get back to my pre children weight. It feels like a mammoth task so I'm trying to focus on 1/2 a st at a time.
I've recently found out I'm borderline pre diabetic so really need to take this seriously.

I generally eat fairly healthy during the day and then really over eat in the evenings after the kids have gone to bed.

Initial changes will be to cut the evening snacking down to 1 hot chocolate and go to bed at a reasonable time. I know if I drastically change things I'll do it for a few days and then hugely overeat for a week or 2.

I'm going to increase my walking/cycling and try a weekly aqua fit class.

HouseofHolbein · 02/08/2022 08:09

Morning everyone! Weighed in this morning 2lb down from yesterday. Hopefully that's my beer weight from the weekend off 🤣🤣

I hit my water and step goals yesterday and probably didn't eat enough due to work.

Today I'm in all day so I'll get my steps in and I'm pretty good at keeping up with water. Not sure about food tbh just trying to decide about eating breakfast.

Good luck everyone today!

TheRealHousewife · 02/08/2022 08:33

Good Morning Everyone 😊

Not much to report other than ate to plan and didn’t get my band workout done yesterday. Must try harder 😬

Welcome to the thread @RadFad Deciding to make changes isn’t easy and now you’ve taken the first steps. There are some great apps to monitor weight loss progress such as Happy Scale and Weight Diary. I also use MFP to log macros/calories. Good idea breaking down your main target into smaller ones. That way each smaller milestone will motivate you to keep going. You’ve already identified your saboteurs (evening snacking/fallen off wagon and over eating) so you need to create some new routines to counteract both. If you make sure you get plenty of protein at each meal that goes some way to keep you feeling satiated. Also after the last meal of the day could you clean and close the kitchen? An evening early walk get rid you of evening munchies. After which you could even get washed/brush teeth and into pjs ready for bed. Also try to keep water intake up. Being thirsty is sometimes misinterpreted as being hungry. Imagine how you will feel and look this time next week/month/year by creating healthier habits. You can do this!

@ImALittlePea Youve still lost overall which is great ! 👍👏. You will definitely use a lot of energy being on your feet 6 hours. Hope it stays fine for you (raining here) I agree, here’s to another month of supporting and celebrating each other through what is life 🥳❤️

@HouseofHolbein Your metabolism is awesome, it’s taken my 10 months to lose what you can see off over night 😆😆😆 Enjoy you day off, you so deserve it you work so very hard (and play hard 😬)

Menu
Meal 1 - Prawn salad and home made dressing.
Meal 2 - Halloumi stir fry with red peppers, sweet potato, carrots, butter beans, kale and a bit of onion.

Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Morning stretches ✅
Session 2 - Short walk

Enjoy your day whatever you are doing. And do it with gusto …

@TheRealHousewife I put it on overnight so it's only fair it comes back off overnight 🤣🤣 seriously am not drinking until August bank holiday. My waistline and wallet will thank me for it 🤣🤣

Benjispruce4 · 02/08/2022 08:48

That’s good advice @TheRealHousewife . I eat my last meal around 6 and we walk the dog for about an hour soon afterwards. When I get back I’m thirsty so drink lots of water and rarely eat anything until morning. In the colder months I’ll have tea after a cold walk.
I’m on day 2 of loft sorting. My thighs are aching from being up and down the ladder so many times. Big charity shop drop today but haven’t even touched the sides. Cathartic and emotional saying farewell to soft toys(mine and DC’s) I am far too sentimental!

ImALittlePea · 02/08/2022 09:03

Morning!

Decided I'm going to try and get back into the habit of logging everything in MFP. Might be tricky with holidays and eating out and about a bit more, but it should make me more accountable as I go 🤞

Plan for today:
L - salad with falafel, houmous and a drizzle of sweet chilli sauce
D - pea and asparagus risotto

RadFad · 02/08/2022 09:09

@TheRealHousewife thank you for the encouragement. The walk early evening is a good idea, especially on work days when I struggle to fit much activity in.
Brushing teeth when kids do at bedtime is a good idea too.
I stay up really late so which makes the snacking worse so I'm aiming for 10pm lights out at the latest.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 02/08/2022 09:15

Thanks for the kick up the bum @TheRealHousewife!

I've got a few non work things to do today so unsure if I'll manage a walk.

One thing I do have and not looking forward to it tomorrow morning is my last bridge/implant appointment. Cost me almost £5K and bloody stressful due to the lies/ineptitude of the dentists. It's taken from October last year to now then complete. In September got complex root canal treatments then finally that will be it for my teeth! Yay!👏

december2020 · 02/08/2022 09:23

Thank you @TheRealHousewife - I can't wait! 😊

Yesterday was terrible for me with food and exercise. WFH, toddler in the house and back to back calls meant it's was mainly processed food and then DH wanted a take away for dinner. Gah!

But looking to reset it today.
Thinking omelette for breakfast, soup for lunch and then we'll have a home made stir fry for dinner. Exercise-wise I'll either do a run, exercise bike or lift some weights, I haven't totally decided yet.

Got on the scales yesterday morning and I've definitely gained a pound or two in the last 2-3 weeks so need to get back to my rituals.

TheRealHousewife · 02/08/2022 09:30

I agree that nutrition is a bit of a minefield @fallfallfall. Not helped by all the hype around certain kinds of diets and the fact that more trustworthy recommendations tend to be based on averages.

For a long time, I thought I was doing ok on protein for example, as I’d hit the 0.75 grams per kg of body weight that’s recommended by the NHS. But then I realised that that number is for “moderately active” people and that the recommendations for people who exercise as much as I do are in fact a lot higher.

So now I aim for about 100 grams of protein a day, which is easier said than done for a vegetarian who tends to avoid ultra processed meat substitutes. I don’t want to get too hung up on macros, but as I’m doing this more for health than looks now, I just want to make sure I’m feeding my body the right kind of stuff. Whatever that might be!

SanFranBear · 02/08/2022 23:38

Good day for my diet, proper rubbish day for life plans - found the perfect house but wouldn't even grant us a viewing as I didn't earn double my salary.. and said I'd need a guarantor - at 46! Savings count for nothing, apparently 🙁

So looks like I need to speak to work about increasing my hours which I was really hoping to hold fire on for one more school year as DS still in primary with no before or after school clubs. But I should be able to which will give me (hopefully) what's needed but obviously we'll miss out on this one... wasn't right anyway!

But yes, meant good day on the diet as was incredibly deflated first thing and didn't really have any mojo for anything. I'll pick myself up and tomorrow's another day and blah de blah - just depressing as I'm middle aged, a mother of two and not even able to fund a roof over our heads! Dramatic - sorry!

Anyways, good luck for all the WoW'ers tomorrow. I'll be heading out for a much needed walk, through a vineyard no less.. wouldn't mind some of this heat breaking, phew!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 03/08/2022 07:17

@SanFranBear sorry about the house, hope you find the one sometime soon.
Yesterday I did ok, scrambled eggs for lunch, pasta for dinner but I weighed out my portion to stay within my calories for the day.
Today is leftover roast chicken and salad for lunch and I think falafel, roasted peppers and home made wraps for dinner.

ginsparkles · 03/08/2022 07:35

Morning all,

Sorry about the house @SanFranBear ... I hope something else appears soon.

Yesterday was ok for food choices but did go over the calorie intake. Nursing a cold at the moment so I think my body needed some extra fuel. Also am a bit tired as this little thing is keeping me up at night!

Plan for today:
Pesto pasta salad
Salmon, potato and veg

Hopefully lower in cals today!

Weighed myself this morning and scales still going in the right direction 😀

Starting weight 17th July 76.7kg
(Initial) target weight 70kg
Current weight 74.3 kg

Yesterday afternoon I drank a lot of water when I felt like a snack which definitely helped with the afternoon sugar cravings.

Benjispruce4 · 03/08/2022 07:59

Mine aren’t! I’m up 3lb 🙄. I’ve been doing loads of steps. Regularly over 12000 and last two days so much physical work that wasn’t counted as steps on phone, clearing the loft. I have barely sat down. Food intake has been ok. Hoping it’s a pasta bloat from last night though didn’t have a lot and skipped the garlic bread every else had.Well done @MirandaWest

Not a great week - made some poor food choices and as a result have stayed at 12 st 12lbs. Onwards and downwards!

Mummytogg · 03/08/2022 08:09

Hi everyone!

I joined at the end of last month. 1lb down this week. Some days were better than others.

Planning to continue to move more, drink my water and aiming for mostly real whole foods.

I find I do best with a mostly paleo diet but it's definitely more cooking. Finding time to be pro active and prep foods even just a few things help. I have three boys at home two who are homeschooled and a baby who is still nursing every 2/3 hours.

Slightlystressedbride · 03/08/2022 08:16

@wannadisc0 @MirandaWest well done!! And well done on maintaining @Lizsmum Definitely sounds like pasta bloat @Benjispruce4 and carbs hang onto water, you'll pee it out tomorrow.
Sorry about the house @SanFranBear I am a bit of a believer in fate though, this wasn't meant to be - your real house is waiting for you!
WoW down 2.5lbs which I'm pretty delighted with. I've got my wedding dress now so that's definitely given me a push. It fits but is snug so I could do with getting into the 9s by then....6 weeks to go (yikes)
SW 11st 8lb
CW 10st 4.5lb
TW 9st 7lb
Wedding dress weight (ha!) 9st 12lb

Good luck WoWers!
