Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

@ImALittlePea @Allthegoodnamestakken Thank you both 🙏 After taking his prescribed Ramipril his bp comes down a little but the dose doesn’t seem enough to hold the decrease iyswim. He’s fluctuating between stage 3 and stage 2 high blood pressure. At least he isn’t in the crisis category anymore.

Thank you 🙏 @fallfallfall ill look that one up 👍

That seems an interesting book @CrimsonAlligator I agree staying hydrated is so important, especially when exercising. Any other nuggets or nutshells of knowledge you can share 😬

SW 88.4kg
Last week: 88.1kg
This week: 87.9kg

GW 85kg

Allthegoodnamestakken · 25/08/2022 10:52

@CrimsonAlligator that book sounds really interesting will see if I can get hold of a copy. The stuff around training days is similar to what my PT has been telling me for months. some weeks I remember to plan my week with that in mind and others i'm useless and turn up to class having had only a salad for lunch and then wondering why I'm dizzy 30 minutes in. Not helped by DH who is dieting with me but does very little exercise so he doesn't understand why I am eating such big lunches if I want to loose weight.

milkfromthesleepycow · 25/08/2022 12:17

@Allthegoodnamestakken I just got it for £4.19 on world of books. Should be here next week

I think this might be exactly what I need. Learning to enjoy exercise again has been one of the best outcomes of losing weight. I feel like I'm now in the final stretch (only 1st 4lb to GW!) and I want to really nail my diet.

We're digging the bikes out of the cellar today and taking them to a friend to get serviced. Plan is to establish a good routine for commuting into work before the weather turns. Partly to increase activity, partly to save money. I think it probably costs me £7.50 a day to get to work between car park costs and petrol. Although I may end up spending that on decent food to enable it 😂

Womblealongwithme · 25/08/2022 15:13

So far so good today for me on day one (I know, I know it's only day one! 😂). Had porridge for breakfast and a chicken and veg salad for lunch with a 0% fat Greek yoghurt dip with grated cucumber in it. I'm hungry now so will have some veggie crudités until dinner. I'm making paprika chicken which is super easy and basically just chicken, veg and rice. I'm logging everything on Lose It too and drinking loads of water. My stomach has been a bit dodgy today but I think it'a probably wondering where the chocolate, crisps and usual snacks are.

Been reading back through this thread too, you lot are inspirational.

HouseofHolbein · 25/08/2022 15:55

Sorry I'm awol at the minute it's all a bit busy at work. Our manager has 'resigned' rather suddenly so we're suddenly having to do a lot of stuff that isn't really our job. On the plus side we've been allowed to reorganise our work area which involved a lot of shit going in the skip and digging through paperwork that we didn't know we had but we actually need.

It's been interesting. And a bit stressful. And we are now short staffed.

Hopefully I will be back to normal soon whatever that is 😊

fallfallfall · 25/08/2022 16:18

145.2 yesterday and 145.3 this am as we head out the door.
4.4lbs lost so far this month.
no complaints.
i’m packing some decent food choices; breakfast bircher a gazillion cherry tomatoes, tuna salad for sandwiches, boiled eggs oh and cucumbers! A frozen mystery soup as well…

milkfromthesleepycow · 26/08/2022 06:25

That's a great start @Womblealongwithme consistency across the days and don't beat yourself up if things don't go exactly to plan. Slow and steady

Last working day for me before the bank holiday weekend so it's going to be a busy one. Got my lunch packed and sending positive vibes to you all

ImALittlePea · 26/08/2022 07:26

1/2lb on today. Thought it'd be worse so I'm taking it! 😂 My goal for summer was to not gain overall, I'm a tiny bit up but not massively, and I know I'll rein it back in once we're back in routine etc.

Happy Friday all!

Slightlystressedbride · 26/08/2022 07:54

Hi all, I'm back from my long work trip with - terrifyingly - no scales!

I last weighed on Saturday so I stepped on this morning with big trepidation - praying to have not put on more than 3 lbs... somehow, and I have no idea how, I've lost half a pound!! Bloody over the moon.

It's actually been a big lesson in how the little choices I made (walking not taxi, lots of water, g&t slimline not wine, not going all out & "sod it" at dinners etc) added up positively. Because as I was fretting on here earlier I really didn't feel like I'd had a healthy week. Got a v social BH weekend coming up now so I need to take that mindset with me and then get back on it properly next week!

Thanks so much for the support and pep talks everyone (I had the dessert is never worth it chat ringing through my ears all week @Lizsmum @ImALittlePea and you were both right!)

Three weeks tomorrow... 5 lbs to go....

Have a really lovely BH weekend everyone!

Lizsmum · 26/08/2022 07:59

Oh that's great @Slightlystressedbride ! Same mindset for the BH weekend and you'll be fine. Maybe add no cheese ( or whatever your personal nemesis is) to the mantra?

Slightlystressedbride · 26/08/2022 08:11

BREAD!!!!

Hahahahaha "lean away from the bread bowl"

Thank you 💕

SanFranBear · 26/08/2022 09:30

My weigh day today and I'm another kg down which makes me really happy after my Wednesday blowout:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 73.1kg
August GW: 72kg

Helped no doubt by my mammoth hike yesterday but all worth it to have hit 11 and a half stone! Can't quite believe it as I'm only a pound off having lost 5 stone now!

Drunken bank holiday incoming though so chances of hitting GW next Thursday are a pipe dream but having not done a festival since way Way WAY before Covid, I am so excited and couldn't care less. Its my DDs first proper festival as well so going to embrace everything and just enjoy ourselves! We're not camping (friend lending us their flat!!) so at least can make healthy choices for breakfast and start the days with good intentions.

Right, need to tidy my house! DS staying with Nanny as festivals are his idea of pure hell but for some reason, they're coming to stay here! It could be worse but I need to try and make it look presentable! At least my kittiecats will have company 😺

Allthegoodnamestakken · 26/08/2022 09:37

@Slightlystressedbride bread is my nemesis to, so tasty! @SanFranBear well done on the loss! Enjoy the festival!
Feeling a bit deflated today as still just fluctuating between 71.5 and 72kg I think the first few weeks of dropping 1-1.5kg a week had made me think it would really be that easy. Going to spend some time this afternoon meal planning and calorie counting for dinners next week. Also a busy weekend planned but much more active activities rather than our usual eating and drinking based weekends so hopefully that helps.

TheRealHousewife · 26/08/2022 14:58

Does anyone know where august went? I seem to have lost it 😂

Lizsmum · 26/08/2022 21:59

Hope you're having fun on your break @TheRealHousewife with weather that is not too hot, not too cool and not too wet. (Just realised that sounds a bit like Goldilocks and the 3 bears)

CrimsonAlligator · 27/08/2022 09:05

I hope you enjoy the book @milkfromthesleepycow . I think it makes a lot of sense to focus on nutrition when you get closer to goal. That’s what I’m trying to do, but not doing a great job of it at the moment...ah well, at least the intention is there! 😄

By the way, the author has also written a few recipe books. I ordered the “vegetarian athlete” one yesterday, but noticed that there’s a recipe book for runners too.

Enjoy your time away @TheRealHousewife! Sounds like you have a fab weekend lined up @SanFranBear ! Enjoy 😊

milkfromthesleepycow · 27/08/2022 09:25

@CrimsonAlligator you are bad for my budget!! I'll let you know how I get on with the runners cookbook 😁

Womblealongwithme · 27/08/2022 11:45

Morning. Does anyone have any recommendations for good healthy recipe sites please? Not for 'snack' type food but for proper weeknight family meals?

When I google there are just so many it's a bit overwhelming so any recommendations would be great.

milkfromthesleepycow · 27/08/2022 11:54

@Womblealongwithme bbc good food has a healthy section that I dip into pretty regularly. Don't entirely trust the cals/ macros however

Thanks, I'll have a look. I know what you mean though, I often think that when I see online recipes. I'm thinking I could make little swaps?

I'm really not great at understanding macros - I need an idiot's guide. 😂

MirandaWest · 27/08/2022 13:54

I ran to parkrun this morning, then ran a bit while there until it started and then did parkrun. In total it was 13 and a bit km or 8.3 miles 🙂

Good way to start the day as I've been working since 1pm and will be until 5pm.

Have been doing this losing weight thing for nearly 6 weeks (will be tomorrow) and am still feeling good about it.

Starting weight 76.7kg
CW 71.6kg.

So there is 5.1 kg less of me or just over 11lb less and I am heading towards being 11 stone rather than the 12 stone I was 6 weeks ago.

My first mini target is 70kg - then I'll see how things are going

fallfallfall · 27/08/2022 15:32

Oh @MirandaWest well done!!!!
@TheRealHousewife First day we drove, second day we walked (21,000 steps done) and judging by the rainfall today we might be swimming….
i’ll suggest packing up and heading home after our visit with ds and the nearly fiancé.
we’ve got a fab lunch location planned.
@Womblealongwithme i often use Jamie Oliver and adjust my portion size based on the calorie count 3/4 of a serving or 1/2 etc depending on the meal.

CrimsonAlligator · 27/08/2022 16:17

@Womblealongwithme macros are confusing, especially as there doesn’t seem to be much agreement about what the best breakdown of macros is!

This is what I aim for, but others on this thread may well be aiming for a completely different breakdown:

  • a minimum of 25 grams of protein with every meal + some protein with any snacks I’m having= about 100 grams of protein a day. If you can manage more than that, that’s great as it will help to keep you full for longer. As a vegetarian however, I find getting 100 grams of protein a day enough of a challenge!
  • no more than 35% of energy from fat
  • anything left over is for carbs, with a minimum of 30 grams fibre. Fibre isn’t a macro, but it’s great for helping you feel full, so worth keeping an eye on.

That’s it really 😀
