Hello & Welcome!

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into August! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! Summers well under way and the kids are out for the summer. Not an easy time to navigate healthy eating! Being mindful, planning ahead and few tweaks here and there it’s not impossible!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. I try not to drink calories and have very little processed food or sugar. I meal plan, set my intentions daily and exercise most days.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

I'm @Tirednortherner nc due to technical issues

Had a few days visiting family, calories all ok but haven't weighed in a while - I do weigh daily normally as it keeps me very honest and in control. When I was someone who never weighed I put on stones and ended up at 13.5 stone. Hoping to have lost or maintained. Under the 4 week mark for next holiday so ideally a loss

milkfromthesleepycow · 24/08/2022 06:22

@TheRealHousewife hope your DHs BP is all settled now

Loving all the pictures of the ponies. Well done on your run @CrimsonAlligator

WOW back down to 10st 10 so very happy about that. I might make my august goal of 10st 8! We've got a trip to London with the kids in October half term to see a show so I'm going to aim for just over 10st for then (and use it as motivation!). I'm going to reward myself with a proper bra fitting somewhere fancy if I make it- or maybe anyway 😂

Good luck to anyone else weighing today

Allthegoodnamestakken · 24/08/2022 06:41

Morning All
WoW today is 71.5kg so I have gained since my saturday weigh in and maintained since last week. Ready and motivated to make this next week a loss and hopefully see the number 70 on the scales their to stay.

Morning all. Just weighed in and maintained for the 3rd week running. So still just 6lbs lost in 5 weeks. Really need to get motivated now. Said that last week but I really am going to try this week. Hope everybody is doing ok

ImALittlePea · 24/08/2022 08:19

I'm looking forward to the change of seasons too @CrimsonAlligator, autumn is my favourite time of year. I do like summer but it's been so hot for so long and with both kids off I've just had enough of it now 😂

Thank you for the recipe @Allthegoodnamestakken I've screenshot and will give it a go at some point!

Fingers crossed you've mitigated the meals and gins enough @Slightlystressedbride

So yesterday went even further off plan.. had a birthday party in the afternoon and may have helped myself to a few cheese sandwiches and onion rings that I didn't need. I didn't have any cake though and I didn't have the wedges planned with dinner, so it was just the tortilla pizza for me. I did however end up going to the pub with a friend for a couple of wines 🤦‍♀️

Only 1 1/2 weeks until we'll get back to a normal routine though.

Today's plan:
L - not sure! This worries me 😂 I'll try and cobble a salad together. Maybe an omelette.
D - loaded pasta & pesto with extra greens on the side

Lizsmum · 24/08/2022 08:26

Well done to losers and maintainers and gainers! Posting on this thread shows that you are committed even if life has got in the way.

Loss of 2lbs this week - met my August goal
SW 15stone
CW 12 stone 6 lbs

Mini goal 12 stone by the end of September. September includes a few days in Paris and a short break in Wales so losing 6lbs will be a real challenge.

Hope your husbands BP is moving in the right direction @TheRealHousewife

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 24/08/2022 09:29

Hi ladies,

Apologies was in France for a week on holiday! Lots of cheese/wine/dessert etc but don't seem to have gained a huge amount. I think I was sensible and did what walking I could do (plantar fasciitis foot, being seen this Thursday!).

@Lizsmum - I saw you were diagnosed with glaucoma recently - hope you're doing ok, it is a bit of a shock. My DM was diagnosed with this at 55/60 but it's not hereditary, think due to medication she's on. PM me or message me here if you'd like me to ask her anything.

SW: varies between 11 and 11 and a half stone
CW: (pure fluke) 10 and three quarters (just over)
Goal weight preferably 10 or less stone.

Need to get electronic scales.

@ImALittlePea - I think holidays and parties always mean you can fall off the wagon! I had a small piece of carrot cake and larger portion of white rice with stir fry last night but friend came over.

Well done to everyone with losses!

Gufo · 24/08/2022 09:58

STILL maintaining - can I blame the summer holidays? Have downloaded the Lose It app and counting calories again, and committed to exercising every day to try and get off this plateau.

TheRealHousewife · 24/08/2022 10:05

Good Morning All 😊

@Lizsmum @milkfromthesleepycow Thank you 🙏 It’s is moving in the right direction but it’s still concerning. I have asked OH to ring the surgery nurse to run the readings past her. @Lizsmum weight wise you’re doing great and well done on hitting Augusts target 👍. Don’t take the foot of the brake 😬

@ImALittlePea its raining one minute here then not the next. I did get the washing on the line to dry yesterday which always fills me with joy. Hope you get your rain soon!

@Slightlystressedbride fingers crossed for you 🤞 Hope it’s all ok scales wise!

@Northerner1 I find when I weigh more regularly I can manage my weight better iyswim. That said as a measure I always look at my readings from a week previous and if the trends downwards or even sts I’m pleased. Daily fluctuations up/down are natural. You’ll get there with consistency and due diligence.

@Allthegoodnamestakken i understand it’s disappointing for you but better than a gain so it’s a win 👍

@wannadisc0 Well done to lose on holiday 😮 and overall you’ve lost quite a significant amount 👍👏

@Daffyaboutdaffs Take heart, I stalled/maintained for about a year then all of a sudden I’m finding I’m losing again. I never stopped what I was doing and eating healthily as I knew if I did I would have gained massively. I did overall what I was doing so for example instead of just dolloping condiments on to my plate (horseradish sauce I’m looking at you!) I’d weigh it out. I used to drink tea with milk 6/7 times a day. Now I have 2/3 and black decaf coffee or water in between. I also plan my menus and set my intentions daily (the night before) I’m sure little tweaks make a significant difference overall. Also I taste test the food I prepare with the tip of a teaspoon rather than a shovel 😬 I know it’s tough not to see the scale move but it will.

@GonnaGetGoingReturns I love my electronic scales as the readings go to my app on the phone. You can see progress which is motivating! Well done on being measured (whilst still having a good time) on holiday 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made roast veg soup. 3 GF Nairns crackers. Walnuts. Pear.
Meal 2 - Spicy chicken and Quinoa with side salad.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Floor exercises.
Session 2 - Walk.

Come on ladies let give it our all for the last week! Soon be September 😮

ClottedCreamAndStrawberries · 24/08/2022 10:48

Hi. Joining for the first time. I’m so unhappy with my weight. I’m 11st 5lbs and only 5 foot so seriously overweight. The last time I was at a weight I felt happy with was 5 years ago and that was 9st 4oz. My best ever weight was 7 years ago when I was 8st 10lbs.

It all started when I broke my ribs, had an ingrown toe nail and had a VNS fitted for my epilepsy. Meant I couldn’t run due to getting so breathless and it’s never got any better. I’m a terrible snacker. My husband is overweight too and I think we encourage one another with eating crap.

I’m hoping chatting to you guys will help 🤞

ClottedCreamAndStrawberries · 24/08/2022 10:48

Forgot to say, three of my epilepsy tablet make me prone to weight gain too 😢

CrimsonAlligator · 24/08/2022 11:28

Well done to all you losers (and maintainers and anyone still trying in spite of gaining a bit!)

I didn’t weigh myself this morning as I just haven’t been very consistent at all with my diet. I don’t think knowing what damage that resulted in would cheer me up at this point 😂

I have at least been consistent with my exercise. I just finished the first week of the “power phase” in my rowing programme. It was a brutal mix of long rows and interval training, but I can already feel I’m getting a little bit stronger. I did a long row this morning and, if my energy levels don’t come crashing down, will be going for a run after work. If only all that exercise could somehow make up for my crappy diet...🙃

Welcome to the thread @ClottedCreamAndStrawberries . I’m sure you will find lots of support here!

Northerner1 · 24/08/2022 11:30

Weighed this am and am now 10st5lbs, a 2lbs loss. Very pleased

TheRealHousewife · 24/08/2022 12:23

A warm welcome to the thread @ClottedCreamAndStrawberries . The ladies on these threads are supportive and inspiring! Have you decided on what’s going to change? What’s the plan? If you read through our previous threads that might give some ideas. I empathise about how chronic ill health can slow down weight loss. Perhaps make small changes first such as no snacking or healthier snacks whilst you devise a way forward. I’ve attached a pictorial of the basics which might prove useful. You’ve got this 👍

Lizsmum · 24/08/2022 14:24

@TheRealHousewife My BP was very high a couple of years ago and I had to take it twice a day for a few weeks and report back to the GP. It got a bit lower but not low enough. So then I was given a continual monitor for 24 hours which took BP every 30 minutes during the day and every hour during the night. Result was .... BP was normal. I think mine goes up a lot with stress and I couldn't keep being stressed every time! Has your husband been offered one of these to wear?

SanFranBear · 24/08/2022 15:31

Well done, WoW'ers... and for those dodging their WoW too as you all sound on track and aware of what's going in and out! Special shout out to LizsMum for hitting your monthly target - always so satisfying!!

I'm about to go collect my friend so we can get a decent walk in - and much needed today. I don't know what happened but I've just eaten sooo many snacks in the last hour (including half a tube of Pringles and six Biscoff biscuits!!) and feel horribly sick. I had a stressful day yesterday as DD has fractured her shoulder but I stuck to it yesterday but for some reason, it's all gone out the window this afternoon. I know you can't outrun a bad diet but hopefully a decent, bracing walk will at least help a little. Wouldn't be so bad but I feel really sick now - cross with myself.

But, onwards and downwards - its only one blip and not a mistake I want to repeat. Will just have a minimal dinner and start again tomorrow!

TheRealHousewife · 24/08/2022 16:58

Hi @Lizsmum Thank you for your reply. Yes he’s had a monitor previously as it was reading high but not as high as it is now. In that instance he altered his diet and exercised more and it normalised. This time it was a sudden up tick and hasn’t come down much. They have booked in him for a monitor but there isn’t one available for a few weeks 🤷‍♀️. @fallfallfall can high blood pressure be caused by blocked/furry arteries ?

@SanFranBear sorry to read about your dd has broken her shoulder; that must be very painful! No wonder you hit the sugar!

Womblealongwithme · 24/08/2022 16:58

Can I join you please? I don't know what I weigh now, I'm too embarrassed to look. I know I need to bite the bullet though. I'm so mad at myself for letting myself get this way.

Womblealongwithme · 24/08/2022 17:04

I don't actually know where to start either.

fallfallfall · 24/08/2022 17:34

hello everyone :) i'm just waiting impatiently i might add for the scales to drop. so not on the thread too too much or so it seems. foods low cal and exercise going well BUT i could up the intensity i really really could. the muscle mass/hydration numbers all in the green and looking good that way just weight and bmi (which are linked and once the weight is off the bmi will be fine)
@TheRealHousewife first the important part, i've not fully researched the multiple causes of high blood pressure; a component is genetic and size and weight, if big the heart has to pump with a harder pressure to get the blood everywhere so this is where diet helps and then there is the fact that as we age the veins and arteries get tougher and less supple which again means the heart has to pump harder. sludge and blockage also is a problem but i am of the impression this is similar to the though and rigid veins and artery issue which usually accompany aging. with time and testing they should be able to determine the likely cause, there are loads of medication varieties i think it takes time/blood tests/and tweaking. no doubt you spotting this early will be greatly helpful in getting it under control sooner.
Garden...yes is on it's last legs and looking like hell...
I'm off to the rockies on thursday 3 nights in jasper or two?? i would like to fit in some hiking but we are travelling with two valuable e-bikes (which we are giving to family we we got new ones last month) and i'm not sure how we secure them should we leave the campsite to hike about?? we are meeting up with youngest ds and possibly the amazing and lovely gf that should be his fiance as far as us parents are concerned. we will be doing some very very fine dining at jasper park lodge it's just part of what dh and i do each time we go there.
btw my food and exercise plan is so so so fabulously effective my dh is now at the lowest weight since our wedding NO JOKE 183 this am at 6'2" he is thrilled.

Womblealongwithme · 24/08/2022 17:37

Do any of you meal plan?

fallfallfall · 24/08/2022 17:41

@Womblealongwithme , i know it's hard but you should step on the scale for the sake of accuracy. the first few pounds usually drop off easily with just a few minor changes so as disheartening as the initial numbers are you won't be at that number long.
depending on your living situation some things are easier to do than others. do you have kids, work, partner, commitment, a bit more info might help us give you suggestions that will be helpful.
what is your goal?
and above all welcome and know your not alone.

bailarbailar · 24/08/2022 17:41

STS for me, quite frustrated. Was really good in diet last week, and we are away for the bank holiday and eating out a lot so am worried about gaining next week. Sigh.
