Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Wait... its CrimsonAlligator who's rowing, isn't it? Blame my brain fog but I'm still convinced you'll conquer those annoying pounds, LittlePea 💪

CrimsonAlligator · 29/07/2022 11:04

Morning all! May be I should change my name to gummie bear @fallfallfall. I wouldn’t recommend haribos as a weight loss aid, but there’s no denying that they’re a quick and efficient way to get a lot of carbs 😂

Brilliant news on not gaining @SanFranBear. By the way, it was me who started the 2022 km in 2022 thing. I’ve been consistent with the exercise, but not so much with adding it all up! I really should do that this weekend, especially as....I am now officially a member of the 1 million meter rowing club! Apparently I’m going to be sent a free t-shirt, which I will of course wear with pride 🤣

Great job on the arm exercises @TheRealHousewife . Building muscle takes a lot of time and effort. I’m glad you’re seeing the result of all your hard work 💪

Weightloss (and gain!) is so unpredictable @ImALittlePea . Your plan for the holidays sounds good. We can’t always be 100% on plan, so thinking ahead and making changes where possible is very sensible.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 29/07/2022 11:39

I've been a bit up and down this week, not much exercise bar walking and though I don't think I've overeaten have had e.g. grated cheese on 2 rye bread yesterday for lunch. Had less fruit. Last night was with friend and had Quiche Lorraine, potato and garlic bread slices.

Bit of a shock to see that I'm just over 11 stone, no massive gain. Have occasionally had Nak'd bars and the odd chocolate truffle thing (left over gift).

Lizsmum · 29/07/2022 14:27

A million metres @CrimsonAlligator ! Respect!! About how many hours of rowing does that represent?

CrimsonAlligator · 29/07/2022 15:35

Thanks @Lizsmum ☺️ My rowing app has stats on absolutely everything, so I can give you an exact answer - 89 hours and 37 minutes and it burnt 52,965 calories...most of which I must have eaten back as I’ve unfortunately lost very little since taking up this hobby!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 29/07/2022 16:18

I'm really surprised that this week eating 2 slices of rye sunflower seed bread (black bread) with either spread or not and some Cathedral City Lighter Cheese hasn't put on that much weight. I eat it with cherry tomatoes, cucumber crudites and usually have apricots x 2 and maybe a date with peanut butter later on. If home I sometimes have a Batchelors Minestrone Slim a Soup too.

What also seems to help is making sure I'm hydrated with either orange cordial added to water or water.

@MirandaWest - remember that you can mistake thirst for hunger.

What I find helps with snacking is:

fruit - not too much but I like e.g. a peach or 2 apricots. Or Nak'd fruit bars. Sometimes a date with peanut butter. Low fat jelly with or without fruit which you can buy or make and keep in the fridge.

A good meal/lunch/breakfast will always be good but don't be too hard on yourself if you need anything else.

I did a 15 minute walk round the park today.

Well done to everyone else on their losses.

I think (see Monday's entry) by being 'good' I offset all the work pastries/cakes from my workshop but I was walking to and from reception (via lifts!) and my floors to get things most of the morning so that helped.

ImALittlePea · 29/07/2022 17:13

Ahaa yes I'm most certainly not the rower of the group @SanFranBear 😅 (DH did buy me a rowing machine for Christmas once as I'd expressed an interest. It was an excellent clothes horse for six months before we sold it on 👀)

It certainly is unpredictable @CrimsonAlligator. Obviously I'd have preferred a loss or STS but I'm really not kicking myself over it. Just going to make the sensible choices and adjustments wherever I can while both kids are off, do my best and hit a huge reset period when schools are back in September if need be.

fallfallfall · 29/07/2022 22:50

@ImALittlePea and @MirandaWest i absolutely need dull boring routine to stay on track ANY excitement or any special event and i eat like there is no tomorrow. so don't feel bad about boring and don't feel bad if you need to sts till september school start!
@TheRealHousewife it didn't happen today, but i'll going to up my hand weights from 1lb to 2 (let the young ones laugh but hey it works). i use the Walk at Home 7 loop band a few times a week or more.
inspired by seeing @GonnaGetGoingReturns mention of quiche i've bought a yellow sweet potato (not yam) to make a fake crust and will do one up.
BUT prior to that i need to deal with a huge haul of veggies from the farm (1 hour drive away). DH wanted pickling cuc's and i ended up with a case of red peppers , two large free zucchini, melons all sorts of fresh produce (although touched by human hands other than myself and dh). excellent price point and relatively locally grown.

i won't be doing much in the kitchen right away but i want to roast the red peppers and preserve them as well as put down several jars of bread and butter pickles (sweet but hey they contain tumeric ;) ).
149.2....

HouseofHolbein · 30/07/2022 07:05

Morning all! I've been rubbish this week sorry - all out of routine being on holiday.

I weighed in for the end of the month today. 2.24lb up overall. Think that's fair tbh. I'm out tonight then I will be back on it properly 👍

This morning I am RD at parkrun then I need to pop and see my piercer because I have an issue with my ear randomly swelling around my earrings 🤣🤣 it's quite sore.

Have a lovely day everyone!

CrimsonAlligator · 30/07/2022 09:00

Yikes, that doesn’t sound good @HouseofHolbein . Hope you get that ear sorted 😬

You sound like you’re going to have a busy weekend @fallfallfall . My homegrown fruit glut, which I would nearly feel compelled to turn into jams etc, has all been dealt with by the resident black bird family. I think they’re on their third or fourth nest by now, so lots of mouths to feed! I don’t even like jam, so as far as I’m concerned feeding blackbirds is a better use of all that excess fruit 😂

You’ve reminded me of a pickle recipe I found a few years. It is easy and delicious, as well as low cal. Sharing it here, in case it’s of use to anyone else:

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/crunchy-courgette-pickle

Not much else to share diet wise. I was planning to go for a nice long walk today, but woke up to torrential rain. Sigh! May be I should buy some courgettes and start pickling too 😁

SanFranBear · 30/07/2022 09:46

Bit bummed as turns our you need a ticket to go to the kilo sale and with one thing and another, the only time slot which works for us is sold out 😞 We're going to hit the charity shops hard (as we have almost an entire high street full just round the corner) but not how we planned to spend our day. Hopefully still find lots of new, nicely fitting clothes as I urgently need some new bottoms/dresses (plenty of tops!) And at least I know for next time!

DD on a sleepover later so just DS and I at home so not sure what we'll be eating - although KFC always calls. Need to be a bit healthier than that though.. hmmm!

Good luck with all your pickling, fallfall - sounds like a bumper crop. I love picking your own although feels like we only do it for pumpkins around Halloween!

Hope your ear improves, Holbein - sounds painful!

fallfallfall · 30/07/2022 13:28

@SanFranBear , broccoli and cauliflower salad with chicken nuggets/strips and corn on the cob. White pasta and peas with nuggets. Rice wraps using chicken nuggets.
or simply enjoy a no cook prep evening.
I hope you find a few good pieces at the shops.
@Slightlystressedbride whats the dress situation today? Did one meet your criteria?

Slightlystressedbride · 30/07/2022 15:11

@fallfallfall thanks for asking!
A bit too successful, I've now got another 2 possibles to add to my online purchase possibles, and then more onlines being delivered next week! Grin
At least I've definitely got something to wear in all that lot haha!
It was fab trying on as I realise I've got a waist and I was in size 10 in some, although a bit tight, which was what I needed as I have had a bit of a meh feeling week weight-loss-wise as I won't have lost as much as I'd hoped in July, so this gave me a bit of a push to keep on, it is working, it's not all about the scales.
On the other hand feeling a bit down as I sent photos of me trying the dresses on to my bridesmaids deliberately not saying which one I preferred & asking for unvarnished feedback, and while they gave lovely comments they unanimously disliked my favourite! So that's tainted it a bit but I think they probably have some good points with what they said. Ah well, you live by the sword....

Hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday!

Benjispruce4 · 30/07/2022 15:35

@Slightlystressedbride your wedding, your choice!

fallfallfall · 30/07/2022 15:40

@Slightlystressedbride what did they not like about the dress? And more importantly why did you like it? So many questions about it…I love wedding dresses…
and you can make a difference even in a short while. Jump on the bandwagon not just step.
the ladies here told me for months…fall you need to calorie count…I resisted so many times, but they were right.

Slightlystressedbride · 30/07/2022 16:40

@Benjispruce4 very true! If I was 100% certain I'd be going for it regardless but I wasn't so I was sort of hoping they'd convince me but the fact that they've gone the other way unprompted has made me Confused
@fallfallfall I'm loving your wedding dress enthusiasm! I think I liked it because it wasn't massively bridal, I felt a bit glam in it. It was a bit slinky rather than princess look. I'll concede though, in the photos I sent them, from the angle it didn't look as good as I felt it looked in the mirror, so I can see why they don't think it looks as nice as the others from just the photos (I agree it's how I feel I look that matters...but at the same time I want to look back on the photos and think I looked nice...gah).
I definitely need to go back and re-try, probably with my mum as a second opinion!

Benjispruce4 · 30/07/2022 17:15

Maybe get some better photos in your favourite dress. Could your mum take some ? It’s so exciting. I remember wanting a big tulle number but hating it on me. The dress shop owner suggested a straight dress which I was dead against until I tried it on.

HouseofHolbein · 30/07/2022 18:44

I wore an emerald green ball gown for my wedding dress 💕 shocked the husband he was expecting me in red or purple 🤣🤣

Benjispruce4 · 30/07/2022 20:34

Over 15000 steps today, just dog walks and a shopping trip.
B- Greek yoghurt with berries
L- toasted sourdough with avocado, apple
D - veggie burger in a brioche bun, homemade coleslaw (50% yoghurt/50% low fat Mayo)
1 alcohol free beer

fallfallfall · 31/07/2022 00:48

Good Morning!

I think gremlins are in the Mumsnet machine. Yesterdays post isn’t here and a few times when trying to log in I received messages the server was down. Never mind 😬

Amazing... we had a black and white wedding so I wore a lovely black fancy maxi-dress from Monsoon and ExH was in white.

I agree with Benji - some new photos in the dress you loved may turn the tide, stressedbride - and don't tell your bridesmaids its the same dress? I do also think though that when you find the right one, you'll know! And one for next week may well be that one... congrats on the Size 10 as well!

Well, dinner here was a slight disaster - not completely of my own making. We ended up plumping for KFC (as I knew we would) and then the UberEats guy rocked up with loads of extra food - someone wouldn't take their Burger King order or something, he didn't eat BK, so gave it to us. I just couldn't resist the Bacon Double Cheeseburger so had that alongside my Rice Box from KFC. I had walked a friends dog and been very careful all day but most definitely took me over my calorie count for the day.

So the plan is to try and balance it all out today and aim to be under my calories - not by a huge amount as we've got homemade pizza later, but just to make me feel better. I still feel full and a bit gross this morning so shouldn't be hard - it's amazing how overindulgence doesn't feel like the treat it used to (although I did thoroughly enjoy the burger last night!)

Benjispruce4 · 31/07/2022 11:31

It’s done @SanFranBear , ims yes it was delicious. It helps to think of your food intake over the week so just have a couple of lighter meals or fast day if that’s achievable.
I am walking so much this week and finding it really helps with keeping ‘everything’ moving if you catch my drift.😉

MirandaWest · 31/07/2022 13:10

Had a sneaky weigh this morning and was pleased to find the scales said 74.5kg. As 2 weeks ago they said 76.7kg then I must be doing something right 😀.

Dinner last night was a tasting menu which is my favourite kind of meal and although I felt full I didn’t feel overfull 😊

Also got my way through a 10k this morning in preparation for next Sunday’s 10k race (I will definitely not be winning but will be there and doing it 😊)

HouseofHolbein · 31/07/2022 14:28

Out again last night 😬 today is about rehydrating. Will weigh in tomorrow and get back on track for August 👍
