Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

I usually manage 20k steps a day and 2-3 hours of sport a week but I haven’t done anything for a month. I’ve hardly moved. Today I will be off for a walk even if my HR is higher than usual, I need to keep moving without pushing myself too much.

Forgot to add I’m almost 5 foot 9.

TheRealHousewife · 24/07/2022 12:55

Welcome to the thread @HardTimesHarder 20K steps a day is awesome! You’ve made a fabulous start to your weight loss journey and I think 17lbs in 14 weeks is solid steady progress. Repeat that and you’ll be in the healthy range in 14 wks!

HardTimesHarder · 24/07/2022 13:01

@TheRealHousewife
Thank you! I was really hoping to be healthy in time for my holiday. 20k steps is completely normal for me when not injured. I was injured whilst giving CPR too so can’t really complain as i helped to save a life (I’m a vet student) but it’s frustrating that as soon as I wasn’t in excruciating pain after a year I got COVID.

MirandaWest · 24/07/2022 18:21

Can I join as well please? A couple of years ago I realised I weighed more than I wanted to and managed to lose about 15kg by a combination of calorie counting and walking/running. Recently have been eating more for comfort including more sweets than is good in any way and last Sunday I weighed myself and discovered I’ve put most of it back on again.

So have downloaded MFP again and am logging what I eat. Am having very few snacks and also trying to cut back on unnecessary drinks. I usually walk around 15,000 steps a day but haven’t been doing as much recently with the hot weather and having been on holiday but am putting in more effort again. And as I’m doing a 10k race in two weeks time I have been running more too.

Was 76.7kg last Sunday and 75.1kg this morning so it does feel it’s having an effect. Just need to keep at it now. My first target is 70k but I would like to get to 65kg as that would mean I wouldn’t be overweight.

TheRealHousewife · 24/07/2022 18:43

Hello @MirandaWest welcome to the thread, it’s great to have you join us. Sounds like you’ve made a positive start. Like you say, you just need to keep doing what you know works for you. You’ll get there by being diligent & consistent. 👍

@HardTimesHarder You’re very welcome and Absolutely well done on saving a life!!! I hope your injury soon heals! Sorry to read you’ve had the dreaded c19. So far I’ve swerved it or rather never tested positive 🤞

Todays food has ended up being OMAD. Kitchen is now cleaned and closed. Going to potter in garden for an hour then have a lovely bath before an early night 😊. Enjoy your evenings!

Good Morning 😊

The last week of July 😮 This month has flown! If you feel you haven’t made as progress as you would have liked reset your intentions and affirm your goals! There is time for habits to change and progress can still be made. Feeling snacky at night - look at protein and water intake. Find a distraction such as cleaning and closing the kitchen or brushing your teeth. Don’t throw the towel in and give yourself a free pass with the thought ‘I’ll start again on the 1st August’. Just as you can still make progress in a week you could also set yourself back a couple of weeks by reverting to old habits. We can do this 😬👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean vegetable 3 egg omelette & side salad.
Meal 2 - Spicy salmon fillet and cauli rice. Side salad. Walnuts.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Morning all 😊
Hope your Monday goes OK so far. My weekend was good food-wise. Didn't do any workouts, but I was quite busy and it kept me active. I'm not stepping on the scale yet, will do it in a week's time.

CrimsonAlligator · 25/07/2022 11:08

Thanks for the reminder @TheRealHousewife. I had exactly that same thought yesterday about needing to put in a lot little more effort. I also, predictably, considered waiting until the 1st of August, but decided against that in the end. I really need to kick my backside into gear 😣

I had a good start to the morning, rowed for an hour and had some skyr, fruit & seeds for breakfast. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring, but think I’ll recalculate my TDEE first.

I’m not after a massive rapid loss, but just really want to snap out of eating all this crap I’ve been eating for the last few weeks. It doesn’t even make me feel good 🤷‍♀️

HouseofHolbein · 25/07/2022 12:43

Morning everyone! I have this week off work which is lovely 😊 meant to weigh in this morning but I forgot 🤣🤣 ended up on a mega night out on Friday so probably tomorrow is a better bet for me anyway 🤣🤣

I started the month on 9st 8lb and pretty sure I will end higher than that. However I have been sticking to my water and step goals and my personal targets for the month so I'm happy.

Running tonight and meeting a friend for a walk tomorrow morning so activity will be ok. No more races until September now when I have a 10k race then a 10 miler in November 😊

Good luck this week everyone and let's try to end the month strong.

And thank you @TheRealHousewife for keeping us motivated month after month. Really appreciate it 💕

ImALittlePea · 25/07/2022 12:52

Morning! First 'proper' day of the school holiday - how does the change to normal/term time routine make it harder to continue making healthy choices almost immediately?! 😂

I've got 4oz to lose to hit 1.5 stone loss this year, and I'd LOVE to hit that this week. But the weekend was an indulgent one (as per) and my motivation is on a rapid decline.

Having said that - lunch today was pretty much bang on plan. There was a handful of crisps left in a big bag that DS has been making his way through since breaking up on Friday, which I had alongside my cup-a-soup and veggies. So not too bad.

No idea what we're having for dinner later, though, which feels dangerous!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 25/07/2022 13:08

fallfallfall · 22/07/2022 18:43

@GonnaGetGoingReturns may i recommend cottage cheese vs yogurt. more protein less calories lovely with blueberries and oats.

You mean for breakfast?! I have granola, not sure cottage cheese would work with that? I like cottage cheese for lunch.

@CrimsonAlligator I've tried Skyr yogurt before (not as nice as normal yogurt) but will get it again.

@Benjispruce4 - my nana (mum's mum) was just under 5 ft (about an inch under) but for years ate 2 digestive biscuits with tea for breakfast (I know!) and maybe cornflakes. Lunch was generally a cup a soup with a slice of toast. Dinner was a usual dinner but nothing too fattening, she loved curries though. And she allowed herself a slice of cake in the afternoon with her friends.

But apart from that, not much snacking and if she ate out/had a party (buffet food) she wouldn't eat a lot, but was slim for much of her life (size 6-8).

Food this weekend:

Saturday breakfast - sesame seed bagel half with peanut butter and marmite
I did have a few chocolate hobnobs on Friday night.
Lunch: Quorn Picnic Eggs (2-3) with small salad
Dinner: Fishcake with cheese sauce, potato half/quarter and veg (broccoli etc)
Snacks: apricot x 2
Exercise - walks about 20 mins

Sunday: breakfast - plain yogurt, peach, and granola
Lunch: quarter quiche with boiled potato (prob 1) and salad, also trifle (was with friend), 1 digestive biscuit, 2 x apricots
Dinner: roast chicken dinner with veg and quarter/half roast potato (at mum's)
Walks total - probably about 1 hour

Today: Pain au chocolat, croissant, mini muffin and small cake (work early breakfast/workshop) - wish I'd realised I didn't need Pain au chocolat but when commuting at 7am needed the energy...!
Lunch: 372 calories Giant couscous and feta salad and 3 Quorn picnic eggs, Ryvita Thai Sun Bites
15-25 minute walk on commute but lots of small walks to lift and running around for workshop.

fallfallfall · 25/07/2022 18:19

hello, my journey out of the 150’s is very very very slow. 150.6 this am
overall a decent month down 4.1 lbs at this point. Of course aiming for 5.

Mummytogg · 25/07/2022 18:27

11,000 steps walked today. Stuck to my meal plan except for some chocolate my husband brought back from a work trip 🙈

B- porridge made with almond milk and fruit
L- smallnportion leftover cottage pie
D- steak, sweet potato and salad.

About to take the baby to bed and meal plan for the week!

Benjispruce4 · 25/07/2022 19:55

Well done @fallfallfall you’re getting there slowly but surely.

Benjispruce4 · 25/07/2022 19:56

B- oats with mango pulp and yogurt
B-2 rice cakes with hummus, apple
D- lentil bolognaise with wholewheat spaghetti, Parmesan.

fallfallfall · 25/07/2022 23:21

thank you @Benjispruce4 and congrats on making it through the school year!!
now to survive everyone being home and underfoot i presume.
i have a couple or few?? stressors happening today. but even in a crazy mixed up order i'm poking away and a productive day despite it NOT being peaceful.
B: cheese biscuit and boiled egg, no lie some jam as well
L: veggie sticks and hummus
S: pork tenderloin and tabouleh salad (the pork is in the slow cooker outside on the front deck).
it's a warm 32C here today. shouldn't be an issue to be under 900 calories or to get my water in.
exercise done

Slightlystressedbride · 26/07/2022 08:26

Well I'm cheating slightly weighing in a day early - we've got our wedding food tasting later which will involve A Lot of food it seems, so I'll log my loss today and weigh in next week once I've burnt off the many courses! Haha!
1lb down vs last Tuesday, bit disappointed but I went a bit off piste at the weekend so I don't deserve any more in fairness!
Have a nice day all & good luck for those weighing tomorrow!

Benjispruce4 · 26/07/2022 08:30

@fallfallfall thanks and yes two adults under my feet plus DH!
There’s a lot of emotion in this house as DD1 just graduated and has landed her first proper job, is moving to London to share with uni friends who also have jobs . All amazing and exciting. Obviously there’s a lot to do. DD2 awaits A level results to see if she’s going to her uniform choice and I’m in the mix for 6 weeks! I used to love being term time but not so much these days as I don’t get to escape into my own world every day ! 😂
Jad a great catch up with a friend yesterday for 4 hrs!!!! I think we discussed every over 2 coffees and a sparkling water so ok on the calorie intake although I did sit too long. Luckily I too and tailed the day with a dog walk. I just had a sneaky weigh and I’m 9st 8 so 1lb up on target but had spaghetti last night so probably a bit of water. I am totally ignoring the end of term chocolate bought for me by my class that I may have dipped in to once too often.😊🤔

Benjispruce4 · 26/07/2022 08:31
  • university choice *top and tailed
TheRealHousewife · 26/07/2022 09:27

Good Morning Everyone 😊

@HouseofHolbein @CrimsonAlligator youre very welcome! I really enjoy doing these threads and I get just as much from all you lovelies ❤️ Well done on the hrs rowing too!

@ImALittlePea dig deep! You can do it! If not this week, next. Although I understand you’d like to finish the month on a milestone achievement high!

@GonnaGetGoingReturns re:- your mums weight. I have a theory about gut biome. I think some gut biomes are more efficient than others and aid in keeping you slim. From my own experience just prior to my spinal cord injury I was treated for Helio co-bacter pylori (sp) with triple anti-biotic therapy. That wipes out the infection along with ALL your good bacteria. I feel my biome has never recovered and I noticed I started gaining. The SCI saw my gain further. There is also research to suggest that … TMI Warning … that fecal implants (and gut biome with it) can aid weight loss for some people 🤮.

@fallfallfall You have been so diligent and consistent you total deserve to reach your goal. I have everything crossed for you 🤞

@Mummytogg good step count! Well done on planning for the coming weeks menu! 👏 I find if you plan your meals it takes away that ‘I’m starving, I don’t know what to have’ … whilst devouring the inside of the fridge 😬

@Slightlystressedbride well done on your loss! 👍👏. Hope the food tasting is to your expectations. It’s all getting closer, are you feeling super excited 🥳

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom omelette & side salad.
Meal 2 - Home made lamb curry with small portion quinoa. Mint yoghurt dressing.
Tea, black coffee and water. Walnuts.

Had a good start to the day - found out I’ve won a £50 voucher for a company I already buy running tops from so that inspires me to leap out of bed and go for a run.

I think a lot of my snacking has been habit and I’m an all or nothing type of person so have stopped buying any sweets and trying not to snack at all. So far so good

CrimsonAlligator · 26/07/2022 11:15

Morning all! I had a good day food wise, but clearly made a mistake not having anything to eat before my row. I was completely wiped out and didn’t really get my energy back until after dinner 😬

So today I had a protein shake and a small packet of haribos before heading off into my garage for my first 10k row. The haribos weren’t ideal from a nutrition point of view, but seem to have done the job. Annoyingly all the web resources I can find about sport nutrition don’t consider weightloss. Jelly babies are being promoted quite heavily, but there’s got to be something else/ better?!

I think there’s definitely something to your gut biome theory @TheRealHousewife . At the very least I’ve noticed that when I religiously take my probiotics, I have far fewer cravings for sugary foods. With what we know about how ultra processed foods wreak havoc on gut flora, I think we should all consider taking a probiotic (as well as cutting out/ minimising processed foods…but I’m a fine one to talk having just eaten a bag of haribos 😂)

TheRealHousewife · 26/07/2022 11:45

@CrimsonAlligator I think sugar disrupts the ratio of good versus bad gut bacteria. Since I gave up sugar (in the main) my complexion is also improved. Sugar wreaks havoc on our bodies in so many ways. I try have yacult and probiotics available but I’m not always consistent in taking them. A few years ago I had a course of Symprove and saw an improvement in digestion etc. Unfortunately a second course didn’t bring the same improvement. 🤷‍♀️ Haribos 🤣🤣🤣

@MirandaWest Thats a nice win 👍👏 If you can do without snacking it will make losing so much easier. I think the secret is to eat plenty of protein and include healthy fats/complex carbs at mealtimes as that will help sustain you to the next meal. When reaching for a snack try to stop and ask yourself if you’re really hungry or bored or eating your feelings. Put off having anything for 1/2 hour and re-evaluate. If high end hungry have an healthy snack or try to wait until next meal. I enjoy my food so much when I’m really hungry before hand.

OP posts:
MirandaWest · 26/07/2022 11:52

I agree about enjoying food more when I haven't been snacking. And also remembering that it's fine to feel hungry when you're going to eat in a bit!

HouseofHolbein · 26/07/2022 12:25

Hello!

Weighed in 😱 then I've done an 8 mile walk with a friend. We stopped fat bacon butty halfway. Might have had some treacle tart too 😉 was blummin lovely.

Anyway I'm on 18k steps so far 😊 tea will be pork chops and jacket potato and veg I think. Making lasagna for the kids.
