☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I’m in!! I’ll weigh Wednesday. I’ve just started reducing carbs and junk… constantly hungry and the more I’m reading on the low carb diet threads people are saying it’s reducing that false hunger!!

Benjispruce4 · 29/05/2022 19:08

Thanks for new thread @

SanFranBear · 29/05/2022 19:34

Checking in and marking my place although may finish my May journey on the old thread. Thanks so much, RealHousewife.

I calorie count with a couple of lower calorie days a week (aim for about 800 calories on those days) and am also making myself be more active - mainly through getting out into the local area and hiking at least twice a week. Try not to eat back the calories but not too precious as life is still for living!

I'll post my starting stats on the 1st, once I've decided what my June goal should be... weight loss is slowing slightly from my big losses in the first few months but am so determined as I feel so much better and am only about halfway!

Right - off to summon the DC to continue our Stranger Things marathon... episodes are loooong this season 😃

Graphista · 30/05/2022 01:33

Checking in!

@PamelaShipman80 my tip is don't just cut food/snacks out replace them with something healthier and you're less likely to feel hungry/deprived and crack/give in

I was cal counting but finding this a bit boring after a while, but having done it for several months had a good handle on what foods did/didn't suit me and so now I'm doing sensible portions, healthier choices and I'm mostly losing again, seem to have an idea what I'm doing.

Also getting a little more active (easier said than done being disabled)

Namechangenumber23 · 30/05/2022 03:16

Right. Ok I'm in. I don't have anyone to buddy up with here to spur me on so I'm hoping this might give me a bit of extra determination. 😊

Benjispruce4 · 30/05/2022 05:21

Not usually awake this early. At least it’s half term for me so no lack of sleep panic ahead of work. Covid is being relatively kind to me. Very grateful for my jabs x3 . Have been walking daily in remote areas which is ‘allowed’ and feeling better for it. Otherwise I’m in the garden avoiding DD who has exams next week. She hasn’t had it yet either.
Weight wise I think I’m maintaining which is fine. I’ll need to be strict this week as I’m home. At work ( school) I can’t eat in the classroom so it’s easier to abstain. Must make sure I don’t let things slide.

Thanks @Graphista and others for kind wishes.Hope you all had a good weekend.

TheRealHousewife · 30/05/2022 08:54

Welcome to the thread @PamelaShipman80 @Benjispruce4 @Graphista @Namechangenumber23 @SanFranBear

Absolutley @SanFranBear finish May first and what a good months it’s been for you ladies 👏🙂

@Graphista I agree trying to be more active when battling disability is much harder. I find now the finer weather is here it makes it easier. My joints and muscles enjoy the warm and I like being in the garden doing bits and bobs. You’re doing really well! 👍

Right I’ll just popover to the other thread 😬

A new thread and a new chance to try again! 😃

I’m in and very keen to leave May behind, at least weightloss-wise. My plan is to calorie count and do a fair bit of exercise.

I’m currently training for a 2k rowing race. It’s a virtual one and the only competition I will have is myself. That doesn’t stop me from taking it extremely serious though. I’ve been getting up with the larks 5x a week for the last six weeks, to row 10-15 km a day. I’ll be doing that for another 6 weeks, ready for my “race” in the middle of July.

I definitely need to start taking what I eat as seriously as that, but May has been pretty iffy on that front. I’ve started a Mindful Eating meditation course on Headspace after being reminded of that on a previous thread. I firmly believe that weightloss, in my case at least, doesn’t really start with what I eat. It starts with how I feel 🤔

Have a good month everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 30/05/2022 09:09

Hi @CrimsonAlligator you are totally bang on. Healthy eating definitely depends on being in a healthy headspace. Keep us posted to how you get on with Headspace. A few years ago I signed up to their regular meditations and it was ok but got out of the habit. You are being so active with your training program that will have increased your appetite too. Good luck with your virtual event!

I’ve woken up late after a period awake in the night. Think I’m going to hold out until lunch to eat to offset a couple of drinks last night which lead to an extra sausage with my dinner.😆

Graphista · 30/05/2022 11:43

@Namechangenumber23 welcome. How are you hoping to lose weight?

This is a very kind and supportive but encouraging thread

@Benjispruce4 glad you're in relative good health. I've only had 2 vacs, changed surgery so need to arrange 3rd (and 4th?)

@TheRealHousewife I'm the same better in the warmer dryer weather

ImALittlePea · 30/05/2022 14:38

Checking in, thanks @TheRealHousewife

BellyDancer124 · 31/05/2022 06:55

Hi all! Checking in, I'm 12lbs down since joining the March thread Grin weigh day for me is Friday so I'll update then Smile

Hope everyone has a successful week Flowers

Gufo · 31/05/2022 07:14

Thanks for the new thread. I do (or try to!) 16:8 IF and in May got good at cutting out crisps, chocolate and cake. I'm also moving more but need to make myself do this - hopefully some sunny days will help!

SW: 11.10
Waist: 34.5
BMI: 23.4 (upper end of ok)

Goal for June: get to 11.5 and get my waist measurement under 34".

milkfromthesleepycow · 31/05/2022 08:30

Checking in- thanks for the new thread
Will weigh tomorrow.

Having issues at the moment with waking up hungry. Have been doing IF since the new year with no issues but over the last week have been starving before my eating window opens! Haven't changed what I eat. Wondering if it's because I'm running more? I know eating back exercise calories isn't good but not sure this is sustainable- having to try a lot harder to resist snacks!!

I'm only on week 5 of couch to 5k, not training for a bloody marathon!

Benjispruce4 · 31/05/2022 08:37

Ha ha @milkfromthesleepycow that last line made me laugh. Running does the same to me so I can’t be trusted. I started doing IF but lost nothing strangely until I went back to breakfast, lunch and dinner but calorie controlled and lots of Wally which doesn’t trigger my hunger so much.
I like the idea of IF for health reasons but it doesn’t agree with my digestion as I get constipated on it.
When I did do it though, coffee always helped keep hunger pangs away in the morning. I used skimmed milk which I know you’re not suppose to but I found it more satisfying.

Benjispruce4 · 31/05/2022 08:38

Wally? Walking!!!

HouseofHolbein · 31/05/2022 08:48

Just checking in will join tomorrow with my June starting weight 👍

milkfromthesleepycow · 31/05/2022 08:55

Humour will get us through @Benjispruce4 !

Sadly my caffeine addiction isn't helping (I already drink way too much coffee but that's far down the priority list of things to address!)

Think I'll weigh in tomorrow and if I've lost a sensible amount, add in a post run snack

The running is doing a lot for my general happiness so need to work out a way to keep it. Otherwise I might have to switch to Wally too Wink

TheRealHousewife · 31/05/2022 09:00

Good Morning 🙂

You’re welcome and Welcome to the thread @Benjispruce4 @HouseofHolbein @milkfromthesleepycow @Gufo @BellyDancer124 @ImALittlePea

@milkfromthesleepycow If your cals are within your allowance I wouldn’t worry too much. That said if what I was feeling is real hunger I’d eat! You have upped exercise and you’ll be building muscle as well as burning energy. You’ll make yourself miserable and your diet unsustainable if get in the misery zone.

@BellyDancer124 Thats fantastic progress, well done 👍👏

@Benjispruce4 Extra sausage 😅 Made me giggle 🤭

Benjispruce4 · 31/05/2022 09:04

😂
My Wally will have to wait. I’ve discovered Five Dates a Week on All 4 ……😳

CrimsonAlligator · 31/05/2022 09:36

@milkfromthesleepycow what time of the day do you do your running?

I find that if I don’t have a small snack about 90 minutes-2 hours after exercise, my energy levels really crash. Exercise has an appetite suppressing effect on me, so I don’t actually feel hungry, but I end up feeling really shaky and miserable (even though I usually have a small breakfast straight after exercise).

If I were you, I’d add a snack and see what happens. It may well be the key to helping you resist snacks later on. It should also help you to build muscle & fitness faster as your body simply won’t prioritise those kind of things if it’s running on empty.

CrimsonAlligator · 31/05/2022 09:45

And I know this is a bit of a theme on this thread, but make sure you drink enough water. I think the recommendation is to have at least an extra 350 ml for every 30 minutes of exercise.

milkfromthesleepycow · 31/05/2022 10:16

@CrimsonAlligator the water is a big tick- if anything I try to cap myself at 3l a day!

I usually run a couple of hours after I get up (need caffeine to push myself into gear!).

I'll try a snack afterwards and see how that goes.

Agree @TheRealHousewife - I want to avoid the misery zone!

Thanks for the advice all

(Sneaks off to see what '5 dates a week' is....)

Riddlediddle · 31/05/2022 12:57
