☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@Benjispruce4 love your sentiment “No sun here, just cold rain! 😣 But it’s sunny in my soul! 😎” Love it! 😬 No sun here either 🤷‍♀️

@ImALittlePea You’ve done marvellously! Frustratingly weight loss does slow down or stall the nearer to goal we get! No answer I’m afraid other than to carrying on doing what you know works 👍They say exercise is only a very small part of weight loss as in reality it’s down to diet. Exercise still has its place in that it helps make us fitter, it tones and changes our silhouette for the better and can be motivating in keeping us on track to carry on eating healthier. You can do it!

@CrimsonAlligator a sensible target and definitely achievable 👍

I would love to join too.

SW: 81.9kg, would love to lose a stone for the summer holidays. Planning to cut snacking and eating more healthily; being more active (10k steps and bootcamp / weights classes)

Benjispruce4 · 01/06/2022 13:31

B- dry fried egg on steady toast, ketchup(tsp)
L- avocado(1/2 small hass) salad with pumpkin seeds , apple
D- will be roasted spicy chicken thighs(skinless) with homemade healthier(half low fat Mayo/ half yoghurt) coleslaw.

Benjispruce4 · 01/06/2022 13:31

*seedy 🙄

LightningStar · 01/06/2022 14:58

Welcome @simoer,@ButteryNuts and @giatta

@milkfromthesleepycow Grin.

Hope you are negative soon @Benjispruce4 !

Sorry @TheRealHousewife Smile

Thank you @CrimsonAlligator I decided to go to the supermarket today as while I could wait for some stuff as didn't want to develop a fear and I was still hoping to get some bunting. Failed. I will ask for help if it happens again.

DD isn't talking to us. She went out for 25 minutes and didn't say bye or hello when back. Ignored me when I went in the kitchen where she was. She has only talked to me now as wanted to know where something was. This is as bad as before when she was missing in some ways and worse in others Sad.

I did 5km this morning but came home without meeting DH and LightningDog as had pain in my stomach. I had it last night and when I woke up too. Each km was 6 minutes something for the first time in ages so I am very proud. I actually think I run better when I do every other day.

Just want to cry about DD now tbh.

ElderflowerTonic · 01/06/2022 19:17

I fell off the calorie counting wagon over the weekend because I was under the weather. Somehow I weighed in at 10st 8lb this morning, a pound down on last week and 4 pounds down from when I joined the May thread. I don't know what my body is up to, but ignorance is bliss in this case.
My goal for June is to lose 4 more lb. I'm into the routine of soup for lunch every day at work so that really helps with calories.

fallfallfall · 01/06/2022 19:20

weighted in at 165.8 not good at all!!! but i give myself a pat on the back for simply braving the scale.
next came breakfast...dh made it, oatmeal no added sugars and i stuck to a half portion.
lunch in 45 minutes. dh is away so it will be 100% up to me to make a good choice that carries me till supper!

LightningStar · 01/06/2022 19:25

You can do it @fallfallfall !!

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 01/06/2022 20:21

Just posted on the May thread, thank you @LightningStar for letting me know about the June one.

Hello, please could I (re) join you all? I was on a few previous threads last year. I went down from 86kg to 66kg and then I got with my dd who is now 5 weeks old. I’ve just weighed myself and I’m 79.9kg so have gained a fair bit but would like to get back down to what I was last year. Particularly important to me as I had spinal surgery a couple of years ago and losing weight was a huge help with my recovery and I don’t want the extra weight to cause any further problems with my back. DD is my third baby, I have 2 little boys who are 5 and 3 so running around after them is currently my exercise!

fallfallfall · 01/06/2022 21:44

well done @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat for nipping the upward trend in the bud!! welcome.
thanks @LightningStar for the support, i didn't want to let you down soooo
cut veggies (1/2 carrot, 3 inches of cucumber, 2 celery sticks and 1/6 of a nice red pepper) along with measured 2 tbsp of hummus (70 calories). to hold me a bit longer 1 cup of chicken broth.

that's my supper (1/4 portion size) with a bit of chicken.

LightningStar · 01/06/2022 21:53

You could never let me down @fallfallfall but I am really proud of you. You've done good!

Welcome here, glad you found us @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat .

Newmum110 · 01/06/2022 22:52

Can I join in??? Have a lot more to lose than most people on here after a baby and very lazy maternity leave. Anyways new month new me. Need to meal plan and stop eating rubbish all day. Going to start couch to 5k too if my poor knees can manage it. Hoping to lose a stone in a month (as I said a lot to lose so should be manageable). Best of luck everyone

fallfallfall · 02/06/2022 02:56

as planned the chickpea salad and 2.6oz of boneless skinless chicken breast at 80 calories.
being generous 800cal for today.
64oz of water
zero exercise

Graphista · 02/06/2022 03:45

Welcome to all newbies

Great thread very encouraging and kind

@Benjispruce4 glad you're not suffering too much with the Covid

Isn't it funny how we all have different things that throw us off?

For you it's being at home, for me I'm better at home! Cos I can more easily control the environment, it's when I'm out and about I struggle!

@TheRealHousewife swim again today plus a little walk. I'm much slower walking but I get there in the end google maps said 10mins took me 25 mins will give you an idea but I'm lapping the me that had her fat arse sat watching Netflix and eating double caramel magnums!

@CrimsonAlligator mindful eating sounds interesting to me headspace?

Wow stats

Start weight 13 stone 6.5 lbs I think

Current weight 13 stone 3.25 lbs

That's 1lb down on last week

2.25 lbs down over the month

I'm taking that and running with it!

Will do measurements tomorrow

Ooh muffins! Now there's an idea. Could work for breakfasts and pack ups

@milkfromthesleepycow 7.9lbs off is amazing! And well done on the nsv too

@LightningStar no need to be embarrassed they're super common. I have ocd and anxiety and get them all the time grounding helps breathing exercises don't!

How was Asda? And that's also an AMAZING Weight loss you're close to 2.5 stone off? Fantastic

Could the stomach pain be anxiety related?

Is it possible I'm unintentionally IF ing? Never have breakfast or very rarely! Often don't eat anything until 2/3 pm and usually don't eat after around 1/2am

And if so maybe I should try it properly but I don't know how

But it’s sunny in my soul! 😎

Love this! I'm stealing that

B - cornflakes - rare for me to have breakfast

L - half avocado on 2 slices toast

D - low cal pasta ready meal

Bad on water today need to rectify that

@Newmum110 I've around 4 stone to lose and others on thread who may have less to lose now in some cases started with a lot to lose so don't worry about that at all

A stone in one month is very ambitious. That's 3-4lbs every week. Generally the advice is 1-2lbs a week is more achievable plus you're more likely to keep it off

Realistic goals that you achieve will motivate and encourage you whereas if you aim too high and don't manage it you could feel demotivated

TheRealHousewife · 02/06/2022 07:06

Good Morning 😊

@Graphista You are doing fantastically well! You’re changing some previous habits for healthier ones. Little tweaks here and there do make a big difference for ladies like us (disabled). I have an Apple Watch and I barely register any activity as ‘exercise’ due to lack of momentum, speed and any general zoominess. I’m a turtle 🐢 in every sense of the word 😬

Welcome to the thread @Newmum110 Congratulations on your new baby. I don’t know how much you have to lose but a stone does seem on the ambitious side. Nonetheless I’m sure you know your body and what works for you so I’m sure you’ll make some significant progress towards your goals with due diligence in making healthier choices 👍Baby steps, you’ve just had a baby 🙂 👶

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat Welcome back and no apology necessary, this is your tribe too! Congratulations on your new baby! Our 3 young children will definitely keep you on your toes. You’ve done the journey once, you know what works but like I said to Newmum, baby steps as your body will still be recovering 👶👍

@fallfallfall well done on braving the scale. Not always an easy task! At least you know where you are at now and can now see how much progress you’ll be making 👍 You’ve done it before and can do it again 😊

@ElderflowerTonic You had a nice steady loss in May, fingers crossed 🤞 for a June triumph too!

Wekcome to the thread @giatta . You seem to know what you’re going to do to get to goal and you’ve added in exercise too! Keep reading and posting and the ladies on these threads will add in some virtual support.

Menu
Meal 1 - Halloumi & butter bean stir fry with red pepper.
Meal 2 - Cod fillet on a bed of salad. Home made dressing. Strawberries & cream.
Tea, coffee, water.

Enjoy your Jubilee Thursday 👸🏼

Morning! Went to visit my mom yesterday so had 8 hours in the car and ate crap. Was lovely to see her 💕

today I am meeting my running club in the park for an unofficial parkrun which will be fun 😊 then off with the husband to pick up new wheels for the car.

aim is to eat better today 🤣🤣 and drink more water.

hope everyone enjoys their day 👍 whatever you end up doing

Benjispruce4 · 02/06/2022 08:54

Morning all. Thanks @Graphista for we’ll wishes. I may have spoken too soon. I keep feeling better then the headache returns and I the cough. Very strange how it comes and goes.I’m really impressed with your detailed posts and tags. Well done on your progress, you’ll get there.
I’m glad my sunny 😎 soul cheered some of you.

Benjispruce4 · 02/06/2022 08:56

Ooh I forgot to mention that I made a new type of coleslaw last night. Didn’t have any cabbage so substitute was celery and iceberg lettuce. Was really nice and less wind making😆

milkfromthesleepycow · 02/06/2022 09:01

Good morning and happy bank holiday!

@Graphista it does sound like you are doing IF by default! Maybe cut back your eating window to midnight? You want to have a good few hours out of the window before you go to bed.

@HouseofHolbein 8 hours in the car sounds painful! I'm a terrible car snacker too, despite the fact I'm always the driver (I'm an awful passenger- keep trying to use imaginary pedals!)

Got w5r2 of couch to 5k done today. I'm getting slower but I think that's actually a good thing as I feel like I could go on for longer when I hit the walk interval.

Off to the beach today for paddle boarding (or kneel boarding for me- still haven't got the balance right!)

Hope everyone has a lovely day

AnyoneElseFeelDone · 02/06/2022 09:26

Well blow me down, scales say 2kg down for May!

Good luck 🤞

HouseofHolbein · 02/06/2022 10:42

Back from notparkrun it’s very hot out there!

LightningStar · 02/06/2022 10:48

Welcome @Newmum110 and congratulations on your baby.

Sounds a lovely meal @fallfallfall and well done.

Thanks @Graphista and well done on your stats. Asda was okay and dh and I have just been for a quick shop in town. Was rubbish as couldn't get the three main things I wanted but now I'm watching Trooping the colour while DH walked LightningDog.

My stomach pain is different from when I have been anxious and with having to have another scan and blood tests due to problems with my womb and kidneys I am feeling like it is to do with those.

Download the Zero app for IF @Graphista. What you are doing is basically IF but it does depend what you are drinking too. I end up having a window of 4-5 hours in which I eat. I find if I have breakfast it sets off the munchies and I struggle to last much last 12 for lunch. If I don't eat breakfast and especially if I am busy, I can wait until we'll after one and nearer two some days.

I hope you feel better soon @Benjispruce4.

In defence of @Newmum110 I lost 1.5 stone in a very short space of time when I was 14 stone and it was due to giving up over 25 items of food that I had discovered I was intolerant too. Having said that, I have found that slower off usually means it stays off.

Well done @AnyoneElseFeelDone and enjoy your beach day @milkfromthesleepycow .

BTW has everyone worked out who I used to be?

Newmum110 · 02/06/2022 10:56

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm not expecting miracles but I know just how bad I have been so I think any sort of diet improvement will make a big difference!!!!! I won't be too disheartened it took me a while to get into this state so I know it will take even longer to get out of it.
Off to buy some flowers to treat myself. Will be my weekly treat from now on instead of food

Graphista · 02/06/2022 12:11

@TheRealHousewife I'm not doing "fantastically well" in terms of numbers on the weight loss side but I feel like I'm trying really hard!

But then everything is exhausting for me both with the physical side and Mh side impacts - a lot of people don't "get" how exhausting a constantly whirring anxious mind is!!

But I think you meant tortoise 🐢?

Hoping to manage a loss rate of approx 1lb a week, if I get more great but I'm going for steady sustainable weight loss

@Benjispruce4 thank you not everyone likes my posting style especially elsewhere on here! Sorry you're feeling rough when I had Covid I just took pain relief regularly to stave off the headaches etc was only way I could manage it

@milkfromthesleepycow maybe I am IF ing I'm totally ignorant on this but I'm thinking it could feed well into my competitive with myself element!

@AnyoneElseFeelDone well done!

@HouseofHolbein I keep getting caught out with it looking dull and grey here but once outside it's quite warm! "Close" as we say up here - @Puffalicious will know what I mean. Supposed to be nice this weekend so considering sorting the cool bag and "chillys" bottle with a picnic and heading to local park/s, grab a magazine (save the old phone battery!) on the way and enjoy the warmth.

Plus the usual places to go do things will probably be PACKED this weekend

@LightningStar yes know who you are. Thank you, sounds like you're doing a wee bit better

it took me a while to get into this state so I know it will take even longer to get out of it.

Yes this is what my old ww leader used to say

It didn't go on overnight it won't come off overnight

CrimsonAlligator · 02/06/2022 12:44

Afternoon all! Weather is looking really overcast here this afternoon, but as I’ve already been for a long walk this morning in bright sunshine, I shouldn’t complain. It was so quiet in the hills, it was almost as if the bank holiday wasn’t happening. I guess people have “better” things to do than hang around on a hill...not that I can really imagine what that would be! Nothing beats a bit of hill climbing in my opinion 🤔

Does anyone have anything special planned meal wise? I resisted all the special treats that were available in M&S yesterday, so am feeling quite pleased with myself. I left with a packet of crackers, a pot of hummus and some olives. I’m sure that will tie me over for a few days 😋
