☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD 2 ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Well done @HouseofHolbein !
Its sunny warm in my neck of the woods finally. Been for a looong walk with DH and dog. Just eaten leftover chicken thighs x2 with leftover coleslaw and an apple. Breakfast was oats with berries.
@Graphista I’m going to pop some ibuprofen. You’ve reminded me I don’t have to suffer. I always do this, no idea why but I try to ride it out without. Hope you enjoy your picnic in the park. We are about to do a bit of gardening. 😎💪

LightningStar · 02/06/2022 14:20

Lovely pictures @HouseofHolbein

I have been watching the Trooping of the Colour and really need to walk my dog but I can't stop yawning and I feel cold. DH is mowing the lawn so I'll wait for him and go with her then.

milkfromthesleepycow · 02/06/2022 17:45

Lovely and sunny down here so had a great day at the beach.

Pros- 14k steps so far today

Cons - one scoop ice cream which I didn't enjoy as much as I'd wanted to. Tasted just a bit bleh. Definitely not worth the calories sadly

Dinners chicken and veg

Benjispruce4 · 02/06/2022 17:49

Really wish I lived near a beach. Very jealous and it’s on my bucket list. One day🙏
I’ve been pottering in the garden, visited my DM at the cemetery to lay flowers(anniversary) and now swinging in my garden hammock with an alcohol free cocktail while DH makes a chicken curry. Shame the sun has disappeared but it’s sunny in my…….soul!😎

ImALittlePea · 02/06/2022 18:40

I'm so annoyed with myself! I'm SO off the wagon. My 7yo wanted chippy tea last night, so we decided to have a late dinner with him once 19mo was in bed. Huge plate of (delicious, tbf) food, accompanied with some prosecco. Long weekend, so we figured why not. Today went to a local farm and they literally only had sandwiches on offer, so had one for lunch, along with crisps and an ice cream. Come dinner time, was feeling so tired from farm trip and an afternoon gardening after I couldn't be bothered with any proper cooking so we had oven pizza and chips - so MORE bread and stodge. I just can't stop grazing now, we've got more wine in the fridge which I know I shouldn't have been I also know I probably will. I can't seem to work out how to get my head back in the right space. And it's a long weekend so I know I'll find a way to excuse it all.

Sorry, just a bit of a rant! Won't be weighing in tomorrow, that's for sure 😏

LightningStar · 02/06/2022 18:48

I'm also struggling. I feel like I need a little something. I miss having something pudding-y. I've just remembered I have some home made potato salad in the fridge. Wondering if I try and have nothing or have some of that.

Benjispruce4 · 02/06/2022 18:56

@ImALittlePea be kind to yourself and just go with it and enjoy it. If you’re going to indulge, might as well enjoy it and start afresh when your head is back in the game. It will be when you’re ready.

Benjispruce4 · 02/06/2022 18:59

DH’s chicken curry was yum but left half the rice. Pretty sure my stomach has shrunk. He’s drinking beer and I just can’t stomach the thought or the smell . I had a couple of drinks last weekend but just don’t fancy it at all which is sooo strange for me. Headache fading after ibuprofen so I’m sure that’s part of it. Off to walk the dog again and clock up some more steps.

milkfromthesleepycow · 02/06/2022 19:07

So chicken and vegetables morphed into Chinese takeaway while I was picking up some bits for a picnic at the supermarket. I can't say I blame DH, I'm totally knackered and had picked the shopping as an alternative task to cooking!!

Back on it tomorrow

AnyoneElseFeelDone · 02/06/2022 19:23

Thanks @Graphista and @LightningStar (great new name and hugs for everything)

We saw the red arrows and a few other planes! Off on a 2 day road trip tomorrow so lots of eating out and bread products I imagine. Oh well...

Have a lovely weekend all

TheRealHousewife · 02/06/2022 19:33

Hahaha @Graphista yes I meant tortoise 🐢 😬 I agree about anxious thoughts being exhausting and then put long term health issues on top it can be quite overwhelming at times.

@milkfromthesleepycow well done on completing your couch - 5k session 👍

Great photos @HouseofHolbein 👍👏

@Benjispruce4 sounds like an idyllic day. Hope you enjoyed your curry!

@ImALittlePea we all have days when our good intentions go a bit pear shaped. Don’t be so hard on yourself and you’ve got a clean slate tomorrow 😊👍

Overcast here, fingers crossed we have fine weather tomorrow for the street party 🎉 talking of which I am planning on have a glass or 2 of Champagne 🥂 (which is my first drink since April) and a small bowl of Jubilee Trifle 😬

ImALittlePea · 02/06/2022 19:44

Thanks @Benjispruce4 @TheRealHousewife @LightningStar I know you're all right. I know I'll get back on it (probably next week now). I'm going to try and swerve the bread though as it really does make me feel sluggish. Going to go to Aldi tomorrow and get bits in for some interesting salads for over the weekend. I'm thinking a fruity halloumi salad, some kind of chicken, maybe falafel and houmous. Does anyone have any nice salad combos/recipes to inspire me?

On a happier note - I have actually had a really productive couple of days of gardening. Loads of planting, mowing, jet washing, tidying and sprucing. I even took all the rubbish to the tip! My legs are tired but it looks so nice now. I'm sat on my sofa looking out at the colours with the glass of wine that I shouldn't be having but feeling rather accomplished.

Benjispruce4 · 02/06/2022 21:00

@ImALittlePea yes I love feta, watermelon and mint salad. Also peach(can be chargrilled), mozzarella and rocket and basil. Both lovely with bbq meat and something like tabbouleh or cous cous.

LightningStar · 02/06/2022 22:09

You deserve the wine @ImALittlePea . I wanted to do some gardening today but was too tired. I sometimes wonder if I will ever not feel exhausted. Worry is tiring Confused.

pennysays · 02/06/2022 22:19

Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

i weighed myself and I am 1kg down. I can’t believe it and could most likely be because I am in a different house and so scales are wrong? I hope not. I feel like I can see it.

I’ve been doing things like I should mostly - porridge for breakfast, salad for lunch, veg stir fry no rice for dinner and fruit for snacks and always a an ice lolly for pudding! I’ve also been buying grapes instead of crisps and chocolate at the shop. I always want to get myself a sweet treat and grapes seem to be the perfect replacement.

Benjispruce4 · 02/06/2022 22:29

Try frozen grapes @pennysays . Have also had banana ice cream. Just freeze a banana then whizz it up in a food processor and eat immediately. Amazing. You can add yoghurt etc but it’s great as it is if you miss puddings. Must eat asap or it’s not so good.

Benjispruce4 · 02/06/2022 22:30

Anyway I’m off to bed with a cup of camomile tea. Walked 15000 steps today with dog-she’s asleep already! Hoping I’ll have a whoosh soon.

fallfallfall · 03/06/2022 01:01

lovely busy thread and some very busy people!! well done @HouseofHolbein.
thank you @TheRealHousewife and @LightningStar for the new thread and support.
okay: dh again sabotaged breakfast, although i had prepped my low cal oatmeal he wanted pancakes...i did only eat half of what he served.
then at lunchtime he offered to take me out for lunch...we had a great salad but still 560 calories
fine this will just mean a light supper i'll have chicken broth and a banana.
a bit more active today with lots of prodding, just not feeling the desire to exercise yet (for no apparent reason btw).
no snacks and lots of water thanks to my new water bottle.

LightningStar · 03/06/2022 07:45

Why does your dh keep sabotaging your meals @fallfallfall ?

I don't feel like running today either as still have stomach pain but I will as I'm sure I broke my fast last night. I need to walk the dog too as dh doesn't want to. I had a dream that has upset me and I am worrying about DD as well as being very upset with her so running = hope to forget about everything for a bit.

lala1245 · 03/06/2022 08:26

Hi everyone, hope it's ok to join? My start weight is 10st 2lb, which apart from pregnancy, is the heaviest I've ever been. Over the last few months I've developed an unhealthy binging attitude to food that I've never had before so I'm hoping to reset that by being more considered with what and when I eat. I'm usually 9 stone so hoping to get back to that over the next few months.

ImALittlePea · 03/06/2022 08:31

They both sound lovely and have definitely given me some inspiration - thanks @Benjispruce4!

It really is tiring @LightningStar and I'm sorry you've still got so much worry.

TheRealHousewife · 03/06/2022 09:29

Good Morning 😊🥂🎉👸🏼⭐️ Happy Platinum Jubilee ⭐️

@ImALittlePea I love Halloumi! Pan fried until coloured and crispy lends itself to any salad 👍 I don’t have any specific recipe though as I generally make up my salad combinations depending on what’s in the fridge.

Welcome to the thread @lala1245 You mention that your eating habits have altered towards bingeing … I don’t know how long ago you were pregnant but do you think your hormones are still out of whack; or perhaps some unchecked anxiety/stress/low mood going on? I find most weight loss journeys start with a mental health check and trying to get in the right headspace. You’ll find loads of support on these threads 👍

@fallfallfall Frustratingly my OH often undermines my efforts too. In my case it isn’t to sabotage or deliberately derail my diet. It’s more a case that he sees it as ‘helping out’, especially if I’m tired or in pain and he actually expects a a massive Thank You and a medal 😂

@Benjispruce4 Fabulous step count! 👍👏 🥇

You’re very welcome @pennysays Well done on your loss 👍👏

Menu - (Not calorie counted 😬)
Meal 1 - Salmon & Cucumber Sandwiches, Egg Mayonnaise & Cress Sandwiches (gluten free) Champagne 🍾
Meal 2 - Jubilee Trifle & Champagne 🍾
Tea & Sparkling Water.

For those enjoying Celebrations or Street Parties I hope the day stays fine and the sun ☀️ shines. Have fun!

@TheRealHousewife it's been years since pregnancy but Ive definitely become more anxious/stressed the last few months. Im trying to exercise more, eat better and try not to let life overwhelm me so much.

ImALittlePea · 03/06/2022 14:09

Delicious salad today! A bed of rocket, baby and spinach leaves with red spring onion, chicken breast, bacon strips, steamed asparagus, tenderstem broccoli, peas, and a drizzle of Caesar dressing. With a small side of crushed roasted newies (we're out at a party shortly for the afternoon so wanted a more substantial lunch today). DH isn't a salad fan generally and even he loved it. Feel full but not bloated - perfect!
