Starting tomorrow, I need to lose roughly three stone, and generally sort myself out.

I am a mess 😀

Ok here’s to week 2!!
What l learnt in week 1: I worked out 4 times, each one was hard but the gym was so enjoyable and I was so sad to be too sore to work out for the next three days! I clearly don’t know how to go gently enough so I can keep working out every day.
I lost and gained 3 pounds and am starting week 2 the same weight as week 1. I was really regimented the first 4 days and then the muscle soreness made me really crave sugar to try and recover. This week I am going to just diet and yoga, see how that works.
I do think my body shape has changed a little so I wonder if I’ve built muscle. I do need to be lighter so that’s not really a benefit to me at the minute!

Going to row messed up by grumpy Ds and DH but I walked the dogs briskly 3 miles. Protein granola, protein bar, chicken salad so far today. I need to make sure I get protein early in the day I think

I'm powering through the housework and some DIY today and must have gone up and down the stairs 50 times already - that must count as for the last few years I've got really lazy and sat on the settee a LOT!
MY app still says I'm too high on fat and sugar but bought some stevia for my tea's today which should cut the sugar quite. It's not as nice though :-(
On the plus side I managed to do up a pair of jeans I needed to wear for work yesterday and managed to wear them for 6 hours - was glad to get them off and back into elasticated waist leggings as soon as I got home though Grin

Right, back up the stairs to clear my boys room out

Harrysmummy246 · 10/04/2022 17:15

Did a sh**load of housework and some gardening before taking kiddo to this party where, fortunately, there wasn't a great deal of food so parents weren't having the odd bit of pizza leftover etc

I do need wine though as a 2 hour kids' disco is a bit much. Same again in a couple of weeks time for a different child too (DH would struggle even more than me with the noise levels etc)

Done my weekly weigh in. I've maintained exactly. I suppose, given the trainwreck of Friday and Saturday, I ought to be glad I haven't gained, but I'm really frustrated. I was hoping I'd still have managed to lose a little bit. The first week is usually where it drops off easily! Oh well. I'll just have to try harder this week!

That's so frustrating Captain, I really feel for you. Don't take it to heart - you might be doing something a bit wonky, or you might just have some water weight that's hiding the real fat loss. Or, maybe you've gained some muscle weight (muscles are heavier than fat). OR, maybe your body's just in shock a bit and this week's weight will come off next week?

Either way, don't lose hope.

When you're going through hell keep going and all that Flowers

Version4needsabitofwork · 11/04/2022 17:17

Sorry not to post this earlier, but someone up thread asked what I was doing - I'm going for the Louise Parker Lite method (my own version of her's as adapted for the obvious carnage of the Easter holidays). Basically, I'm drinking all the water, doing all the self care, cutting out all the processed foods, sugar, alcohol and refined carbs and making up the rest - whilst trying to make balanced meals and snacks.

I really want to do the method properly, but can't at the moment, so I thought rather than make excuses and get even fatter, I'd try and do what I can now, using the same principals. I assume Louise's methods are for the likes of Emma Thompson who probably thought she was HUGE, but in real life was probably a size 12; so I've also assumed therefore that my oversized portions are going to be worth a go, since I'm 13 stone and a chunky 14 Grin.

CaptainCallisto · 11/04/2022 19:34

Thanks Version - I just need to keep going. Even if no weight is coming off, I'm drinking more water, eating less sugar, and having more fruit & veg, so it's still a win health-wise. I'm going to try and up the exercise a bit this week while it's the Easter holidays and I don't need to worry about working with post-workout muscles! I don't think I can cope with my Year 2's when I can't walk Grin

Exactly, you have made massive changes to your life style that will, in the longer term, set you up for health.

I did get out in my boat today. Wasn't expecting to have to dodge 2 minibuses worth of teenagers in other boats though so worked harder than intended through sheer grrrr. Had a flapjack made by team mate after but she tells me they've got added protein + banana i.e. potassium and I'm going with that.

Then walked the dogs.

Then trailed round ikea, including lunch. But we sorted a new mattress and a rug that is going to be less of a mare when a dog or child vomits on it- sadly this is not a rare occurrence.

Version4needsabitofwork · 11/04/2022 20:59

What kind of a boat have you got @Harrysmummy246?

One of my wake up calls was realising that if I'm obese I won't be able to get on the SUP I bought for the kids... it's quite motivating to think that when I lose a stone or two I'll find doing active things easier. I love kayaking and SUP and getting out on the water!

Harrysmummy246 · 11/04/2022 21:27

Single scull rowing boat. It has a weight range that I'm towards the upper end of and would like to be at the lower end of.
So i'm one of those stupid people who face backwards @Version4needsabitofwork

TeddyGirl1982 · 11/04/2022 21:38

Update for anyone who might be interested, I now weigh 10 stone 8lb so that's a loss of 3lbs in a week. Tbh I've struggled to eat 1800 calories a day which I can't quite believe, but my PT has set my carbs, protein and fat at levels I need to try to hit. Still exercising a lot and eating really well. I can't believe I'm losing on this method but my PT said I would and he's right!

42isthemeaning · 11/04/2022 22:35

Late joiner here if you'll have me?
Fat, forties and fed up
Bad knees and hip, plus big belly
Easily 3st overweight
Before covid to do aqua fit classes, boxercise etc and felt great even though didn't lose lots of weight
During first lockdown did an hour's walk every day and felt better
Done nothing for over a year now and hate myself - can't bear to see my double chin or big belly in the mirror and nothing fits me
Stressful job and hours don't help
Help!! Sad

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/04/2022 23:01

@Version4needsabitofwork thank you for the Louise Parker info, I'm going to look into that - I'm so run down at the moment, it's hard to focus on anything really - maybe better nutrition is the way forward for now. I've got very swollen tonsils, a permanently blocked nose and plenty of aches and pains, hoping things will improve soon...

@CaptainCallisto maintaining is good in the face of adversity!! I took the DC to a special sports event they wanted to go to today - had to take the day off work and everything - then DTS1 (ASD) had an enormous meltdown and we spent half the time away from the event trying to calm him down Sad DTS2 was really sad and said it was spoiled for him. I ate lots of chocolate this evening. Probably not the high point of my weight loss journey Hmm

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/04/2022 23:05

Oh yes, for anyone who's interested in the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, I had my first call on Friday with a very cheery lady who was most encouraging and told me how well I was doing even to join. Ok, so I haven't dared step on the scales again recently, but I'm looking forward to starting the programme after Easter!

CaptainCallisto · 12/04/2022 07:37

I'm sorry the sports event didn't go to plan @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl - it's so tricky when it's something they've been looking forward to, isn't it? You have my complete sympathy, and as a fellow SEN parent, I think the chocolate was justified!

CaptainCallisto · 12/04/2022 07:40

Just read that back and it sounds really condescending. It wasn't meant to at all! I was going for sympathetic understanding - I've been there and done that and I know how much it sucks and how guilty you feel when it all goes tits up.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 12/04/2022 11:42

Thank you @CaptainCallisto, I certainly did feel guilty yesterday! I don't know if DTS1 just found it too much (but he usually loves it), or if it was perhaps at the wrong time for him, but my goodness... what a meltdown Confused

It's far more like parenting a toddler still a lot of the time - he's such a very sweet little boy when he's not going into meltdown mode but when he's there, all you can do is wait it out...

I've got the DC a couple of small eggs for Easter and some chocolates (from Lidl!) for a trail, but really they're not overly fussed about chocolate; there's such pressure of social media though to do tons! I'm glad I'm not on it much and not just to avoid any unflattering photos of me as I could do with eating much less chocolate myself!!

MooPointCowsOpinion · 12/04/2022 12:43

@TeddyGirl1982 well done! If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the plan, is it weights or cardio or a mixture? I love weights but only really like a walk for cardio or a 5 minute row…!
@42isthemeaning welcome!! I totally get the stressful job causing issues. When I got promoted a couple of years ago suddenly my belly just blew up, I’d always carried my weight around my hips and thighs so it was really weird, but I think the hormones involved in stress blow up bellies!! Since I took my new job last year I’ve found my stress levels dropping and I think my belly is slimming down when I lose a few pounds…! Stress is a killer!

LouB76 · 12/04/2022 14:16

I have put on 2 lbs. I don't understand. I had a cheat day on Saturday and ate c 1,800 calories (but I also did a walk that would have burned off 600 of those).

I've been fasting until 12 and eating around 1000 calories a day for 2 weeks. I also exercise - hiking both weekends (nothing major but good length walks with some uphills), swimming and doing Pilates and kettlebells. I've been doing this for 2 weeks, surely I should have lost and not gained? Or at least remained the same 😬

Cazalet · 12/04/2022 14:34

10.11 this morning, that’s a 6 lb loss. Really pleased. Eating lots of veg. English asparagus out now, delicious lightly roasted with a poached egg on top and low in calories. Never managed to grow it myself but a friend does and always gives me some. I will pay her back in courgettes and chillis in the summer. Unlike lots of other posters I am not exercising, need to think about that, very lazy.

2lbs is generally considered to be within the limits of random fluctuation but frankly, 1000 calories doesn't sound enough to me. How did you get that figure?

Thanks for the encouragement!
On a typical week I do one or two weights sessions, around 45 mins which include some conditioning (rowing/burpees holding weights/sit ups, alternating for 15 mins). Then I'll have a session of swimming, another of pilates and in between I'll do normally treadmill, gym work, plus sometimes a 30 min core class. It sounds a lot but I'm getting a bit passionate about it now so I make the time, especially as I'm seeing my body slowly changing shape. It's hard I admit but I'm aiming to be strong & healthy long term. I don't want to be in my 60's and groaning every time I get up from a chair!

Garfieldismyspiritanimal · 12/04/2022 19:02

Ah that sucks @LouB76

I put on a few lbs before a period even if I have followed the plan. Any hidden calories anywhere? Wine?

Harrysmummy246 · 12/04/2022 20:50

I'm just not on it today. Eating crap, not trained and just worn down by trying to get things done that should just happen. Not sure I care enough to keep trying when it feels so hard
