Shredding for the wedding

thismotherhoodthing · 15/03/2022 20:28

I'm getting married in July. Had a baby in October and am struggling to shift the lbs. I need to lose a decent amount of weight for my dress to fit! Starting this thread as motivation. Not looking for big long explanations and discussion, more of a daily accountability check in or motivation boost- anyone want to join me? :-)

Morning, I wasn't quite as good as other days. Was slightly short of 10k steps and a little over on calories. Not too bad though.

1.7lbs off this week which I am happy with. Just hope I can stay on track this weekend. Good luck everyone!

thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 07:23

@Sally872 well done!

Hi everyone, yesterday wasn't so great for me - had a takeaway and wine in the evening! I'm blaming DH for talking me into it Grin

Hoping to stay on track over the weekend, I actually tend to find weekends easier as there is too much temptation to snack when I'm at work.

Choppies · 26/03/2022 07:28

Ooh im a bit late but can I join? Baby in September and wedding in June so it’s getting super close now!

Sounds like everyone is doing well so far! I am weighing myself every Sunday and it’s been a slow fall from 72kg to 67kg in the last 3 months but the ex-display wedding dress is slightly ‘aspirational’ so I need to step up the pace of the loss I think.

No me-time for gym sadly so I’m getting 10 000 steps and doing 8-minute at home work outs during nap breaks haha! Main focus is calorie counting

thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 07:56

@Choppies of course! That's similar to me with baby and wedding! There's currently no chance of my dress fitting so I am gonna need a back up plan I think! I do one PT session a week when fiancé has the baby and apart from that aiming to do the squats, steps etc we've mentioned. Do you have a goal weight?

OP posts:
thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 07:58

@glowingcandle naughty DH! I've had to ask my fiancé to hide the treats in the house haha hopefully this weekend is good to you! I weighed in this morning and was down to 139.4 so hoping it doesn't go back up. I'm weighing every day and putting it into Fitbit app as it then takes the average from across the week, I find it's too unreliable otherwise as it can go up and down so much

OP posts:
thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 08:00

Also @Choppies 8 min workouts sound great and actually achievable. Do you have a link to them or anything?

OP posts:
Sally872 · 26/03/2022 08:12

Well done everyone.

@glowingcandle A takeaway at the weekend is hard to resist. I think some treats are def needed.

I am out today. Hoping to minimise damage by eating well this morning, getting the steps up and try and make better choices than usual. Will definitely be over calories though.

I also weigh daily and look at trend @thismotherhoodthing, find it really helpful to smooth out any timing issues.

@choppies 8 min work outs sound could, can you tell me what ones?

Choppies · 26/03/2022 08:47

The 8 minute workouts are these 80s classics so a bit grainy but I love the motivation - I put you tube on and just search ‘8 minute arms’ ‘8 minute abs’ etc. and they come up!

No real goal weight other than just ‘as low as I can get in 8 weeks before final fitting but ideally need to loose at least an inch off my waist and half an inch off each arm. Probably needs to be around another 3kg off but it’s been so long since I weighed under 65kg I have no clue!

roarfeckingroarr · 26/03/2022 10:14

Please may I join? I'm currently 9 stone, aiming for 8 stone 7, so just a half stone to go now but it's the difficult one. It's my birthday on Monday so this weekend will be bad for booze so I'm going to over compensate with exercise and not too much food. Heading to body pump now then long walk with the toddler.

I have a holiday in 4 weeks then my DS christening in June. Aiming to lose this half stone for holiday then another half for the holiday,

thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 10:14

@Choppies ok that's me sorted I love an 80s workout! Lots of Lycra haha. I'm the same need to lose as much as poss. Do you have a plan for if dress doesn't fit? I might end up having to go to coast or monsoon or something. God what a stress!

@Sally872 daily weigh ins are definitely more accurate I think! If I eat a load of carbs the scales can go right up then come back down. You can do this! Enjoy your day out and making better choices is definitely key!

OP posts:
roarfeckingroarr · 26/03/2022 10:15

I'm doing a yoga class and body pump each week, aiming to swim twice and then walk a min of 8km each day.

thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 10:16

@roarfeckingroarr absolutely! That's definitely achievable - you've got this! Just remember why you wanna do it when you want to slip up. I'm feeling really motivated but also worried that I've given myself an impossible task and that the baby weight just won't shift

OP posts:
Sleepeatrepeat · 26/03/2022 10:29

Can I join please. Need a kick up the arse. I am at my heaviest at 16.5st and desperate to get down to 12 again.

But need to shed at least a stone before the end of May

Choppies · 26/03/2022 10:56

@thismotherhoodthing now that I’ve lost 5kg I can do the dress up (just about) but still looks a bit tight - tbh main issue is it’s sleeveless and my arms still look chubby - had a ‘practice shoot’ at meeting with wedding photographer a few weeks ago and got the pics back today - I just look so much older and more tired than I did pre-baby and my teeth are stained and I was drawn and pale from sleepless nights. I’m also embarking on night weaning/skin care/etc. to give myself an all round ‘boost’ for motivation. These pics are the motivation I needed even if it did make for hard viewing!

roarfeckingroarr · 26/03/2022 11:06

Thanks @thismotherhoodthing ! You'll do it - keep up the walking. I walked off my baby weight during lockdown because there was nothing else to do 😁

thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 15:52

@Choppies bless you. I'm sure you don't look anywhere near as bad as you think in the pics but it's about how you feel isn't it. Remember with a spray tan/hair and make up/ the right underwear etc it will be a different story. I've lost all the definition on the tops of my arms as well. If you can get some light dumbbells then some tricep dips each day will do amazing things. At least you can do the dress up that's more than me right now haha!

OP posts:
thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 15:53

@Choppies also I totally know what you mean I feel like I have aged 10 years in the past 5 months!

OP posts:
thismotherhoodthing · 26/03/2022 15:54

@Sleepeatrepeat of course! How are you planning to lose it? Share your goals here and I'll try and keep you accountable. Accountability is everything I think!

OP posts:
Choppies · 27/03/2022 06:08

@thismotherhoodthing I did actually unearth my mini dumbbells today! Triceps dips are in some of the 8-minute workouts - I think with my a-line dress I need to focus on shoulders and arms in the short term and ignore squats for now haha. You’re right I probably don’t look as awful as I think but it’s just me
Comparing myself to pre-baby - I think always wearing nursing tops that have a faint whiff of sick and stale milk doesn’t help but she is weaning now so maybe that can improve too??

You’ve lost 7lbs or more by now which is great! Don’t let yourself think about plan B for the dress until it’s a fortnight to go - only other options now are off the peg anyway and getting a bigger dress will just affect your motivation!

thismotherhoodthing · 27/03/2022 07:33

@choppies that's so true! I do worry that I might be doing a last minute scramble for a new dress but going to try everything I can to make sure that doesn't happen. Thing is I bought my dress in 2019 before our wedding was cancelled and I'm not even sure I would pick it if I went dress shopping now!

Defo get the dumbbells on the go! I did a little arms circuit with the dumbbells as I was watching Bridgerton last night 😂

failinghard · 27/03/2022 20:56

Hi there! I am also getting married in July and also had a baby in October!

I have lost 22lbs since 5 January and need to lose another 28lbs more, I have 4 months as of tomorrow.

My wedding dress currently does not so up at the back. Just hoping I can do it! I mean I don't have much choice now do i??

My baby is in a good routine now so I am getting on the exercise bike to do HIIT around 11am and trying to get out for a walk in the afternoon if it's nice weather. Also go swimming once a week but trying to up to two times as it's really good for burning cals and toning.

I am using Noom to track my meals and trying to keep below 1500 cals. Started replacing lunch with a protein bar and drinking protein water before/during/after exercise. Then trying to cut carbs for the evening meal. Having high protein filling stuff for breakfast- chia pudding or scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast etc. Also given up alcohol.

Going to pick a rowing machine off market place this week and do this for 30 mins after baby goes to bed in front of tv. Hopefully it'll sort out my fat back and tone up the bingo wings.

Hope everyone is set for a big loss week!

thismotherhoodthing · 27/03/2022 21:17

@failinghard well done on your loss so far that's amazing! Also very jealous that your baby is in a routine! We have the bones of one but I definitely wouldn't be able to set my watch by it. We were end of October so she's five months today - hopefully soon!

Sounds like you're doing all the right things! We can both keep each other motivated with the dress issue!

My calories were too high today but I've eaten really healthily so not feeling too bad about it and will adjust tomorrow to try and compensate.

Hope everyone has had a good day and is feeling motivated for the week ahead!

OP posts:
glowingcandle · 27/03/2022 21:49

Everyone seems very motivated and is making good progress!

I've had a pretty good weekend, managed to stay on track mostly. The 8 minute workouts sound good, I'm going to look those up. I've also set myself a target to walk 10,000 steps every single day in April.

One thing I've found helpful is stocking up on various types of fruit and mint teas. Every time I feel like snacking I get a tea instead, gives me something else to focus on and they're quite nice. Plus practically zero calories so very virtuous!

thismotherhoodthing · 27/03/2022 22:16

@glowingcandle nice one well done! What teas do you have? I'm going to do this. Used to always like peppermint and liquorice as it's a bit sweet but a bit of an acquired taste I think
