WellTidy · 16/03/2022 10:21

We are going here @SwimmingOnEggshells. I’m hoping it will suit all of us in our own individual ways! We are there for a weeks so I’m hoping we will leave the resort and get to explore a little, as the only Greek islands I’ve been to are Kos and Corfu. I have no knowledge of the language but I am a big tennis fan and have an excellent appreciation of Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas!

I appreciate the frustration on the no loss front. Not that I know what I’m talking about at all, but the video really helps me when I am not seeing the results I think I am due. Could it be down to salt retention, do you think? Are you drinking loads of water?

Pommelegible · 16/03/2022 13:21

Have a great trip @Knittingnanny2

melmos · 16/03/2022 19:01

Have a great holiday @Knittingnanny2. Not minimizing the stress you've been under but I recently had an law stay followed by a Hen do and I honest felt like I was going to have breakdown I was in tears most nights leading up to it but then I had the best time. Feel like with lockdown we might all have some residual social anxiety and I am already very anxious.

So lost a pound so new weight is 8 13!

B- pistachios
L - small pot of fish and veg curry
D- St patricks day salad (had nuts, potato, cheese and lots of dressing so healthy but not light)

But I've had some wine and realistically will for the rest of the week as my other half is Irish and we are going to wedding. I hope you dodon'all kind but I'll keep posting for accountability.

Have a great evening all x

melmos · 16/03/2022 19:01

Don't mind*

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/03/2022 09:51

oh wow @WellTidy that place looks amazing! Are you doing all-inclusive? We are for our trip to Rhodes in June/July and I can't wait. My kids are a bit fussy and I find going to restaurants a bit stressful because they tend to eat about 5 bites and then they they're full. At least with AI it's all already paid for so it doesn't bother me as much. Will you DS be ok with the food in the resort?

I did a bit of a sabotage yesterday - coffee, 4 x crackers, soup, carbonara and then wine, chocolate and some tortilla chips. I'm my own worst enemy.

I'm intrigued by this Irish salad thing @melmos, was the orange in it cheddar by any chance? St. Patrick's day here and bank hol again tomorrow so I can't see me making much progress over the next few days.

melmos · 17/03/2022 10:14

Morning ladies! So lost a lb so now 8st12,
b- pistachios, l - curry or pub d- probably pub again Blush

It's st patricks day is my excuse but I'll find another next week!

@SwimmingOnEggshells ahhh are you in Ireland? My other half is irish and is very jealous of the bank holidays, we are in the UK so no time off unfortunately but you wouldn't know it from how much we will probably drink.

You have the right idea for St patricks day salad! It was was surprisingly nice it was spinach, mint and pistachios for green, feta for white, roasted carrots and potatoes for orange

Shorties trying to lose weight - thread number 4!
WellTidy · 17/03/2022 10:25

I’ve never seen a St Patrick’s Day salad before! Brilliant. I love anything with a theme!

We are indeed going AI, first time we have done that for about six years. We normally have a villa, eat out once a day and have out other meals at home.

There is an Italian restaurant in the hotel, which I think will suit, and we will take breakfast things, really strong squash and snacks with us (quite a lot of them). The hotel will have fruit, so that helps (bananas, berries, apples, grapes are what DS2 eats). We have a two bed suite so I think there will be a fridge. With it being so hot, the weight in our luggage won’t be taken up with heavy weight clothing or shoes, so we will be able to use the space and weight for food. And then hopefully have lighter luggage coming back! Ds1 loves a buffet (and drinks and ice cream on tap), it will be right up his street.

I just want everyone to be happy, and then I will relax. And hopefully it will work out and we can then look for something similar on one of the other Greek islands next time! I’d love to go to Rhodes, it’s high up on my list.

Chocolatefreak · 17/03/2022 12:29

@melmos great salad idea, it's so easy to get lazy and make boring ones but this looks both appetising and topical!

I've managed not to succumb to the temptation of the chocolate biscuits that I know are in the cupboard for three days now, a recent record. I find if I can avoid sugar for a few days the craving goes away, it's just getting past that initial week or so....

purplegirl13 · 17/03/2022 13:03

Hello! I am back after a week or so of eating nothing but CARBS. Thankfully my IBD flare up hasn't really materialised, hoping it stays that way. I plan to reintroduce fruit and veg, I can have any without skin/seeds but need to avoid anything too fibrous like broccoli/cauliflower. I just need to get off the pasta/bread diet I'm currently on!

@neverenoughchelseboots how's the little one?
@WellTidy thanks for the feedback on the jumpsuit. I also only try to buy from the petite ranges, but do struggle as I'm a 34FF/32G up top . I keep saying I must try and find a local tailor.
I recently bought this on ebay for about £8 in a size 10, it's comfy and not too heavy www.asos.com/asos-petite/asos-design-petite-ultimate-hoodie-in-black/prd/200263832
I haven't bought any clothes 'new' and very little on ebay in some time due to a period without work, and a real resentment of buying in a larger size especially when I have a great wardrobe of clothes (that don't fit!). However I'm starting to go back to the office and I'm in a complete panic!
@Morningmaeve good job on the running, I am waiting to see if I don't worsen on the flare front before getting out. I love your soup update:) I will go and buy some shop bought ones at the weekend.
@Knittingnanny2 I am so excited for your trip, I hope you have the most amazing time!!
@WellTidy give yourself a break, you have done so well, put it behind you and start afresh
@SwimmingOnEggshells same to you, enjoy the next few days and start again on Monday x

@Weelegs29 @melmos @Chocolatefreak @countydown1989 @Pommelegible @CloseYourMouthLynn welcome (or welcome back!) It's a long old journey when you're short and life gets in the way. I started here last March at 10st8, got down to 9st10 and then back up to 10st4 for the start of the year. I haven't really managed to get any lower due to injury/illness/renewed social life!

I still have to catch up on the last couple of days of posts, and I daren't click on WellTidy's holiday link just yet. I am in desperate need of a holiday but it's so bloody expensive to go away alone

Morningmaeve · 17/03/2022 13:18

Hello @purplegirl13 - I am having some more of my soup with some sourdough bread now but I really want @melmos St Patrick's day salad instead!

WellTidy · 17/03/2022 14:07

Glad to hear that you’re well @purplegirl13 x

How’s the c25k going @Morningmaeve? It’s glorious here today, so I’ve walked for five miles. Saw lots of runners around.

Morningmaeve · 17/03/2022 15:40

Planning another run - well jog really! - tomorrow @WellTidy. Am doing Week 4 and it feels like quite a step up from Week 3.

neverenoughchelseboots · 17/03/2022 19:29

We're off to Tignes, Swimming. I'll be excited once I've packed, right now it's just more admin. I've just booked a couple of private ski lessons for DD (4). I learnt as an adult and it was misery to start with so I'm hoping to save her the stress and bruises and let her learn while she's close to the ground.

@purplegirl13 a friend of mine booked a holiday specifically for singles in maybe the Maldives or somewhere similar. It was obviously still a fortune, but the expense was spent on a fancy resort rather than single person supplements. It was a specific week in September when the hotel was quieter and everyone was single. So there was lots of yoga and classes and activities. It sounded lovely.

@WellTidy I'm currently working out food packing as well. We couldn't get a catered chalet this time so we're taking a lot of the dried stuff with us for convenience and to save some cash on the mountain prices. It's Yet more things to think about and plan though. But good to know that you've got the children covered.

CloseYourMouthLynn · 17/03/2022 20:10

Hi everyone, haven't managed to catch everyone's names and stories etc, but I hope whoever is going on holiday has a lovely time! And all the salads and soups sound delicious, especially with soda bread, yum.
I weighed in at 8 stone 11 yesterday (was 9 stone 7 in December after having my son) but that was after a good few days eating and lots of walking, I have been eating a bit more junk and drinking wine the past two days so don't want to step on the scales today!
@morningmaeve, how are you finding running? I'm doing the 10k app as I'm doing race for life for my brother in may, but am so not a runner and can only do about 20 minutes so far 🤦

Morningmaeve · 17/03/2022 21:34

I am definitely not a natural runner @CloseYourMouthLynn - just doing what C25k app tells me to do so far. Is a mix of walking and running with the amount of running gradually increasing. A 10k is a long, long way off for me! I'd be delighted to get to 5k which is the aim with C25K but I have a way to go yet. Good luck for your race.

purplegirl13 · 18/03/2022 08:36

@Morningmaeve I agree @melmos St Patricks day salad looked lovely!
@neverenoughchelseboots I've never been skiing, I am very
uncoordinated so imagine it would be a disaster, plus I hate the cold weather! I'd like to go 'skiing' only to curl up by the fire with a glass of wine and a good book. A good call on the holiday, I'm not a big fan of forced organised fun but a resort that's adult only and a bit of a retreat might be an option.
@CloseYourMouthLynn wow, a 10k seems impressive, I'm not a runner at all but really do want to try. I struggle even with the 30 second jog and can only manage about 20secs! Good job on that weight loss!

To the newbies, most of us use Friday as our weigh in day.

I am weighing in at 10st4.2 today, and tbh given I had been showing 10st5/6 earlier in the week I'll take it.

I need to meal plan but the tracking starts again today with the aim of no bread/pasta for a few days. I've had no alcohol since my Albert Hall visit which was about 10 days ago.

B - cappuccino (with sugar)
L & D - tbc

Happy Friday!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 18/03/2022 12:30

Ah jaysus back at 8st12 today.

@melmos that salad looks so goooood! what a great combination of flavours and the colours are lovely 🇮🇪 and yes I'm in Ireland! That's lovely that your husband is Irish, wish him a La Fheile Phadraig Sona Duit :)

@neverenoughchelseboots oh fabulous that you're off to Tignes. Your DD is going to be so cute in her tiny ski gear with her tiny skis. I've only ever been skiing twice and I was amazed at the little kids zooming about the place. Even though my centre of gravity is low I was a bit of a disaster with it all.

@WellTidy that sounds really lovely, and it definitely sounds like everyone's going to be catered for.

@purplegirl13 welcome back from your break :)

@Morningmaeve all this couch to 5k talk is making me want to take up running again. I left my gym because they hiked up the price by 35% 😵 I couldn't justify the cost - the whole family could be a member of our local leisure centre for nearly half the price. But I've a dodgy back, a dodgy knee and a dodgy bladder so I'm not sure running would agree with me...maybe very slow and steady with the app would be worth a try...?

OP posts:
purplegirl13 · 18/03/2022 13:34

@SwimmingOnEggshells hey, at least you braved the scales Wink

I've been shopping, careful not to go overboard on fruit & veg just yet.

My 'breakfast' of a cappuccino was 145cals
Lunch was tomato soup, with half a bagel thin topped with light cream cheese (total 255 calories).

900 calories left for the day.

Dinner might be veggie meatballs in a mushroom-y creme fraiche sauce, served with wilted spinach but more than likely it will be pasta

Morningmaeve · 18/03/2022 13:35

Slow and steady is the key so far for me with the running/jogging @SwimmingOnEggshells. Same as weight loss really! I'm checking in at 9 stone 1lb - I really want to get back under 9 stone.
B porridge and a few nuts
L soup (again) and slice sourdough bread
D carb fest of pasta and garlic bread... well it is Friday Smile and I'll watch the portion size. Glass of wine or two.
Balanced with C25K run (week 4) and an hour-long walk

Knittingnanny2 · 18/03/2022 16:25

Modelling the bargain asda jumpsuit in the searing evening heat! It might be the only outfit that fits after I’ve had a few more days of lovely but calorific meals cooked for me! Playing on the floor with 3 under 4’s isn’t going to be enough to compensate for calorie intake
At least being in someone else’s house stops me from endless snacking though.
Tomorrow’s schedule involves street food.....
I should have brought a spare wardrobe with me of clothes in the next size up!

Shorties trying to lose weight - thread number 4!
Weelegs29 · 18/03/2022 20:29

I weighed in this morning (trying to stick to only once per week) at 10st 13. That mental barrier of getting into the next stone bracket is awesome! Out tomorrow for a friends birthday and will be partaking in a G&T or 10 so not sure that will fair so well for next weeks weigh in but thats a next week problem!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend

Chocolatefreak · 20/03/2022 16:31

What are people's motivations other than to lose weight? I want to fit into more of my clothes, which is one of my biggest incentives, but I also want to cut down on my sugar and chocolate consumption. Not just for weight loss and avoiding diabetes - sugar and chocolate production is incredibly damaging to the environment, it's not a 'nutritious' crop and the exploitation surrounding it is awful. Not trying to be worthy here, but sometimes if I can remind myself of the harm they cause it can help me resist them!

I also think a bit of sugar and chocolate is fine - I'm just one of those who can't restrain themselves, and I tend to dive into those kind of treats when I'm stress eating and then binge.

Do any of you use other mental incentives to try and limit yourselves?

Chocolatefreak · 20/03/2022 16:32

@Knittingnanny2 jumpsuit looks great!

purplegirl13 · 20/03/2022 18:26

Checking in earlier than usual, mostly for accountability.

Each time, I think this will be the time I don't eat it all the chocolates in one go, and I'll be that person who only has a small square to keep me satisfied. Anyway, it's all gone now.

I'm loving the picture of our SiS (Shortie in Singapore!). I hope you are having lots of fun!
@Knittingnanny2 @WellTidy I've also purchased a few of the jumpsuits, even though I'm not a massive fan of sleeveless clothing and have no hols planned :)

@Weelegs29 The joy of a Friday weigh-in means you can get back on track on Mondays for a few balanced days to hopefully cancel out the weekend excess.

@Chocolatefreak I feel uncomfortable at this weight, so it's mostly vanity, and I think speaking for the others I think there are a few of us who feel the same way. I would love to say there's a health aspect to wanting to lose weight, and tbh there's a small part that is as I do want to reach a healthy bmi as a minimum but mostly, I want to lose weight to look and feel better. I have a wardrobe full of clothes I've not been able to wear for a few years because they don't fit, and I'm sticking to a few items bought via ebay that I don't love with mentality of 'they fit, so they'll do' which adds to me not feeling good.

Today:
B - nothing
L - tomato soup, with 2 boiled eggs
S - mango, and then a smallish box of chocolate truffles
D - ready meal of chowmein noodles (I'll add spinach and tofu)
