@BogRollBOGOF I second this!! I have been following the author/biochemist of this book for a while on social media and I have recently purchased her new book and following the plan and I have lost 8lbs in the last 3 weeks so far... just by alterating the way I am eating and being more mindful of what I am fuelling my body with. Definitely recommend to anyone. Before I did this I was really struggling to start shifting the weight.

winterbabyrose · 31/05/2023 15:28

Just to add, that is with 0 exercise the past few weeks, just purely healthy food habits alone! And I have noticed that by following her plan, I am naturally less hungry and not had no where near as many cravings!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 31/05/2023 16:42

I'm intrigued by this book! I'm going to check it out.

More protein definitely makes a big difference for me, currently sipping on a 100cal protein shake.

My diet went haywire for a couple of weeks of illness and I've put on 2lbs, ffs! Need to get back to logging....

Storynanny1 · 31/05/2023 17:31

I’m going to look at this book as well

SwimmingOnEggshells · 01/06/2023 19:44

Ok so back down again today and actually 1/2 lb lower than before I got sick.

Today I've had:
Coffee
Small potato salad
Banana
Mini magnum
More potato salad, portion of ribs, 4 chicken wings, corn on the cob
Really need to log that as I've no idea what it amounts to.

Also did a 5k run but I had to stop a few times because I keep getting stitches. Frustrating but at least I got out :)

This is another consistency-glitch week. Half term, ravenous pre-teen children, no fitness classes, saving myself for a half-marathon at the weekend, wayward hormones... at least it's all in one go 😂

Hopefully the rest of June will be much better...

I do feel like there is a subtle difference in my thighs, hips and waist in recent months though. I have improved my diet generally since new year and run a marathon... not so much running since mid-April though!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 02/06/2023 21:39

@BogRollBOGOF a marathon?! Well done, that's amazing. Don't think I'll ever run one. I'm doing a few 5km a week but I keep getting terrible stitches, it's very frustrating.

You get into the diet zone once the hungry teens are back in a routine :)

How's everyone else doing? @WellTidy @againmaeve @NotEvenSlightlyReasonable @Storynanny1

I’m stuck at about 9 st 5 and have eaten too much this week to weigh in tomorrow!
I’m beginning to think I’ve got a body image issue though. I’ve been dieting for the last 45 years and really need to accept at 66 that I will never get back to my ideal weight! My bmi is 24, my clothes are size 12 so I think Il make this my target weight and focus on maintenance.

WellTidy · 02/06/2023 22:17

Hello all

We’ve been away for a week for half term, and I haven’t weighed whilst I’ve been away. I’ve definitely eaten too much, but walked a lot, cycled and done two of my c25k runs.

Im expecting a gain though, and will really need to get back on it. I was 10st 2lb when we left (8lb loss), and have had to buy a whole summer wardrobe after donating all of my size 12-14 stuff when I was consistently under 9st and a size 10-12 last summer 🤦🏻‍♀️ . I haven’t bought loads of things, all casual, but at least they fit.

WellTidy · 02/06/2023 22:21

@Storynanny1 at 47yo, my long term aim is now to lose a stone and then maintain. I’ve yo-yo-ed for ages and losing it is such hard work and becomes so boring and all-consuming for me. At 66yo, I think you’re a really healthy weight and you look fab too. You’re doing great.

Storynanny1 · 02/06/2023 22:24

Thank you. That’s very kind of you.

againmaeve · 03/06/2023 08:17

I've been away for half term so not been thinking about losing weight. Did a lot of walking so hopefully that balanced things out! I'll weigh Monday and see where I'm at...

NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 03/06/2023 11:34

@Storynanny1 I hear you about the body image issue. In my head I'm about 5'10 and skinny with long legs. You'd think that by 51 I'd have got the hang of the fact that I'm a smidge under 5'2 with big boobs, a saggy c-section belt and study legs. I think one does have to accept that the dimensions one had when younger have now disappeared in the rear view mirror and that to spend our days on a quest to get back to that point is not best use of time and energy! That's what I'm telling myself, anyway. Way back when, I used to buy Japanese labels because they were the only clothes cut small enough for me at a Uk size 4. It's been a while since I had that issue...

I'm back on track after a glorious weekend of indulgence two weeks ago. I suspect the bulk of the problem was water retention due to too much sugar, fat and salt consumed (I did say glorious). I'm hoping that Monday's weigh in will show me below 9st2lbs, which means half a stone off since I started on 13 April and I'll take that very happily.

This bizarre system I've concocted seems to be working for me. My clothes are fitting better, my belt is back on the correct hole rather than more comfortable up two holes, I'm sleeping better (less sugar?) and I'm not beating myself up when I make a considered decision to pause for a day or so in order to enjoy a special occasion.

Happy weekend everyone! Enjoy the good weather.

NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 05/06/2023 08:07

Yep, 9 st1.25 this morning, so that's half a stone gone. Yippee! Just another stone (ish) to go.

Happy Monday folks, I hope it's a sunny one.

againmaeve · 05/06/2023 08:38

Well done @NotEvenSlightlyReasonable I got on the scales and an holding steady at 9 stone 5.8lbs - still twinning with @Storynanny1. I'm much happier at around 9stone 2lbs but my body seems to feel differently these days. Will focus on portion size this week I think.

Storynanny1 · 05/06/2023 09:27

Hello to my twin maeve! Eton mess yesterday for pudding prob made me weigh more than you! Yes 9st 2 would be lovely - my summer clothes fit perfectly at that weight.
going to Devon and Cornwall for a week on Thursday so will try to balance nice holiday food with walks

Guardiansofthegalaxi · 06/06/2023 09:46

Hi I hope it’s ok if I join this thread. I’m 5’1 and weighed myself today - 117lbs which is about 10-14 pounds heavier than I’ve spent my whole adult life being. Now in late thirties and have really neglected exercise, and massively overeat sugar. My diet has never been good but I was always quite active and am quite petite so my weight is never something I’ve paid a huge amount of attention to. But I saw myself in the mirror and felt so down, I really want to make a change.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 06/06/2023 13:52

@Guardiansofthegalaxi I'm a little concerned for you as you have a BMI of 22.1 which is very healthy and you are nowhere near overweight. If you lose 14lbs your BMI would be 19.6, which is still considered 'normal', but is very close to becoming underweight.

Is there someone you can talk to in real life about how you feel?

OP posts:
WellTidy · 06/06/2023 14:04

Back from holiday, but I’ve had a dodgy tummy for a couple of days, which explains why I’m a pound down after a week away. 10st 1lb this morning, a loss of 9lb in about 10 or 11 weeks.

I don’t have enough energy to exercise, and am just focusing on feeling a it better. I’ve either got a cold or hay fever has kicked in in a big way, so feeling sorry for myself today 🙁

Pommelegible · 06/06/2023 20:43

How’s everyone doing? I’ve been back logging calories which seems to be working as I’ve lost just over a kg. It’s been slow but I just can’t do 1200 without wanting to kill everyone around me so am mostly eating 1500. This does mean I’m eating most of my exercise calories but it does seem to be slowly working. Still eating what I want but less of it/sometimes delaying until tomorrow if I’ve already had chocolate etc.
Speaking of exercise, today my Fitbit recorded me having a 20 minute swim. What I was actually doing? Unloading a huge trolley full of groceries onto the conveyor belt at the checkout and packing it into bags 😆. Got 12 minutes of cardio heart rate from that!

WellTidy · 06/06/2023 21:12

That’s funny @Pommelegible . I try not to eat my exercise calories but often don’t succeed! I had a really active Saturday doing household chores which I felt was a proper workout - eight loads of washing, dried mostly in the line, ironed where needed and put away, big supermarket shop, some gardening, made a paella etc. I tried to estimate what ‘exercise’ calories that might come out as and looked at MFP for assistance. I know it massively overestimates exercise calories, but still. I decided that I’d done about 3 hours (probably underestimated actually!) and couldn’t find anything that properly described it so I put if all down as ‘meal/food preparation’! That would have been a massive pile of food!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 06/06/2023 21:43

You'd have to wonder about those activity trackers- my phone said I'd done x number of steps and I hadn't even gotten out of bed yet! I'd take it as a win though @Pommelegible, sounds like you did a lot of lifting!

As for the 8 loads of washing and subsequent ironing etc @WellTidy, I'm aghast - How did you fit all of that into one day?? Amazing. How's your tummy now?

My dieting hasn't been great and I've avoided the scales, but I haven't had any major blow outs so hopefully I haven't done too much damage to my progress so far. Will weigh myself in the morning to take stock of things.

In other fitness related news, I ordered a new sports bra from M&S, OMG, you should've seen me trying to get it on, it was a nightmare! After 20 minutes I gave up because I couldn't do the clasp at the back. Could you imagine having to spend 20 minutes before exercising getting your bra on?! I was in a sweat from the ordeal, oh well my quest for the perfect sports bra continues...

OP posts:
WellTidy · 06/06/2023 21:54

Sports bras - I only ever buy the ones that zip up on the front. I think I’d pull a muscle trying to do anything up at the back, or even one that pulls on and off over your head. And imagine getting it off when you’re hot and sweaty and knackered?! Mine are M&S from a good six years ago, obviously I’ve not done enough exercise in the meantime to need to replace them.

Not quite 100% yet unfortunately @SwimmingOnEggshells and now I have a cold type virus and too much to do this week to be feeling rotten 😞

the eight loads of washing came from seven nights at center parcs, so a lot of pool towels and costumes, sports kits, and general outdoor clothing. Nothing glamorous! It was pretty cold where we were (Sherwood) - high of about 18 degrees - so layers galore. And DS2 and I feel the cold!

Pommelegible · 07/06/2023 07:55

@SwimmingOnEggshells I just want to say regarding @Guardiansofthegalaxi that I also have a normal bmi however I went from the lower end to the upper end and having always naturally been smaller (as in eating what I like, exercising very little) the extra weight didn’t suit me at all. There’s about 18kg difference in the healthy bmi range for my height and at the top of that there’s no doubt about it I am fat. Someone else may not be. Different bodies carry weight differently too I think, my sister is the same height as me but she has bigger legs, a longer torso, bigger wrists, bigger boobs etc and her natural weight is about 5kg heavier than mine. I have long (for a short person) skinny legs, no boobs to speak of and carry almost all my weight on my tummy so the extra 5kg doesn’t look good on me. My friend is an inch shorter than me and looks tiny (flat tummy, no flabby bits) but weighs a couple of kg more than I do. A mutual friend was shocked that I was still lighter when she last saw us because I look way heavier than her, purely because of my tummy. I think we all have a weight at which we feel/look best and that can be different to someone of the same height depending on build/frame and I think we can all agree that when you’re short just a few kg can make a difference. I’ve said right from joining this thread that I’ve only been trying to lose the last few stubborn kg/not let my weight creep up too much now my metabolism has changed and everyone has been lovely and supportive so I’d hate for @Guardiansofthegalaxi to miss out on that. But at the same time I think you’re right to point out her BMI is normal in case there is something else at play.

Thank you @SwimmingOnEggshells - I appreciate your concern and completely understand where it is coming from. It doesn’t sound like I should be losing weight on the face of it but @Pommelegible has described it better than I could! I have a very petite frame, not just short but I’m of SE Asian descent so I am built very tiny. This extra weight is really noticeable on me, around my stomach and hips/bum. i hope it’s still ok if I join. I am not doing anything extreme, just trying to make a conscious effort to watch what I eat and to move more. I don’t know if this is perimenopause - purely from my age as I have no other symptoms. This seems like such a lovely supportive group so hopefully I can get some tips from you all and cheer you on and support you with your goals 😊
