HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Everyone is really motivated and already doing workouts and eating healthily, and here's me trying to finish off a tub of celebrations and eating mince pies with mountains of brandy cream before the year is out, lol Grin

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 29/12/2021 20:08

Hello. I'll be getting on board in Jan.

I've gone from being the fittest I have ever been in Jan 2020 to being.... A mess. I am too scared to get on the scales as I fear it will send me into a tailspin. Reckon I have about 2.5 stone to shift.

I need to focus on cutting down the booze and totally unnecessary snacking.

And not eating my emotions. Sad

Purplepeopleeaterz · 29/12/2021 20:21

@TheRealHousewife The Switch does connect to the tv (the lite version is handheld only) it’s got some really good fitness games, I get bored easily so ‘playing’ while exercising helps.

Soft or slimy veg is high up on my list of texture hard no’s too, glad I’m not alone on that. Mushrooms are wrong on every level unless raw haha.

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2021 20:47

Can’t not can

@Nomoreusernames1244 Thank you for explaining. I thought you wrote ‘mean’ because it was tough to do 😬

@marmilade92 🤣🤣🤣

Welcome @TooManyPlatesInMotion mental health/feelings is so entwined with food & appetite. Getting in the right headspace is important to address emotional eating. Easier to say than do I know. When I know I’m eating my feelings I ask myself ‘will this food address how I feel. Will it make me feel better’. Again easy to say but not always easy to implement. Sometimes we all need a food crutch but succumbing less and less will help. This might be helpful ❤️

If it makes you feel any better my app thinks I'm fasting and I'm actually eating mini Oreo bites in bed. I'm eating my feelings and arguing with my foster carers who didn't feed me. So bad.
onwardsandupwards22 · 29/12/2021 22:27

Anyone got any tips on quick prep meals or how to easily / quickly add veg to meals apart from the birds eye steam fresh bags? Love the tray bake idea, will try that

Also asked my mum to borrow her unused soup maker so maybe I'll give that a try

foxlover47 · 29/12/2021 22:32

Count me in please

MissMaple82 · 29/12/2021 23:00

I'm in.. im the biggest most disgusting I've ever been !

5manc · 29/12/2021 23:07

Hi everyone 👋 I'm in! I'll probably be calorie counting. Me and my boyfriend have just started ttc so just generally need to eat more healthy (although I've already made my excuses to start on 4 January when I go back to work haha)! Definitely be good to have some support from here 😊 x

ShoppingBasket · 29/12/2021 23:50

@onwardsandupwards22 I used to prep my veg for meals and put them into freezer bags and freeze. So for a bolognese I'd chop up mushrooms, onions and peppers. So then you just grab and dump into pot.
That was in the good old days when I was prepared.

Did so-so today, I ended up having some chocolates as DS opened a tub and I was already after having a treat. Waaaaay better than I have been for the last 3 weeks though so that's a win in my book.

Tailrunner · 30/12/2021 00:23

Can I join please. I need to lose between 3 - 4 stone and am planning in calorie counting plus getting back to regular running. I don't have time to join a group but would love some support, accountability and chat. I've seen a few awful pictures of myself over the hols so I'm feeling very focused now but I know it goes out the window when I go back to work and get busy.

Jimmyboy · 30/12/2021 00:43

Count me in for January please. I have 3 stone to lose and will be following a low carb diet with intermittent fasting and a lot of walking.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 07:28

Good Morning All

@onwardsandupwards22 tray bakes can be really simple. (See my previous post) This website give the basics of meal prepping in advance. I haven’t got a soup maker so I either oven roast chopped veg in the oven or fry off in saucepan before adding stock and seasoning. You can leave soup chunky (saucepan method) or use a stick blender to get a smoother consistency (once veg are fork soft). Loads of ideas on you tube if you like to see the visuals. Good luck.

Welcome @foxlover47. What’s your intended plan?

@MissMaple82 welcome and you’re not disgusting. These lifestyle changes need to come from a place of compassion and not self loathing. You need a positive mental attitude and get into the right headspace. You’ve decided you want to see change and that’s a great first step. What’s your plan? What do you want to achieve? Improved health & wellbeing? How would you like to look? Answer these and you’re well on your way. Only you can do it and doing it for yourself is a wonderful gift.

Hi @slmanc excellent reason to get into a healthier groove 👍.

@ShoppingBasket great tip about prepped veg into freezer. Excellent 👌 Well done on not over indulging in sweet treats 👍

Welcome @Tailrunner there are a few runners on these threads so you’re in good company! Planning is your friend. Plan meals, plan exercise, plan how to accommodate both those elements once you’re back at work. Not easy I know, but think of the rewards you’ll reap!

Welcome @Jimmyboy walking is an excellent form of exercise and is said to be as beneficial as jogging. IF & low carb can get good results.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom omelette
Meal 2 - Halloumi, kale, carrot, red onion, red pepper, butter bean stir fry < One of my favourite meals 😋

Enjoy your day!

Do you have a recipe for meal 2 please? Sounds amazing!
TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 08:13

@foxlover47 Sounds like you’ve had a lot on with your move. 20g carbs sounds tough. If I go to low carb or low calorie I can’t sleep and I lose a lot of hair 🤷‍♀️ Our bodies sometimes want different things😬. Good luck with your couch25k 👍

@onwardsandupwards22 it isn’t a specific recipe I follow I just put stuff together. Here’s the basics:-

  • Small amount of chilli oil/butter in hot pan. Add cubes of Halloumi (50-60g). Stir fry until coloured. Add chopped onion, red pepper, carrot, chopped kale and 1/2 tin rinsed butter beans. Salt & pepper to taste. Might need to add a splash of water (I mean splash, not a lot at all) and cook it all down. See photo.

Can I join. I think this group will motivate me to lose the weight. I want to get back to my prepregnancy weight of 70kg, I had a baby 4mths ago. I got an under desk treadmill, I started C25k today, I plan to do intermittent fasting 16:8, reduce carbs and exercise 5 days a week, also drink lots of water.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 08:25

Welcome @Coolhand2 congratulations on your baby 👶. Jump right in, some great ladies on here who are motivating and supportive!

Hello! I’d love to join for accountability and camaraderie! Lovely crowd here already! I’ve done well on 5:2 in the past but need to get mindset to start.. Dry January has also worked to lose some weight by itself previously so definitely starting with that. And restricting my eating window so getting a decent fast in overnight. Baby steps for me work well - helps me to start anyway.

I’ve now got menopausal issues in mix so weight seems to have piled on, and I’m working more hours in sedentary office job where people keep plying me with goodies 😬

Like a few others, I’m a shorty too, with big boobs, so feel really frumpy and uncomfortable, and yoga has got harder 😭

Good luck everyone!

Chimchimcharoo · 30/12/2021 09:16

Can I join too please? I am aiming to lose 2 stone. Undecided on slimming world/ mfp but mainly focus and prep and being consistent! A weekly weigh in and accountability is something I do find helps me.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 09:17

Welcome @Teamburnett43 … we sound like twins 👯‍♀️ as I’m a shorty big boobed with post meno bod 😬. I do what I can, when I can. I like yoga but sometimes I hurt myself. That sounds wrong. I get into the poses/asanas and it feels doable and easy at the time but afterwards I get pain due to trapping nerves or overstretching. Going to start again slowly following Adrienne on YouTube.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 09:20

Welcome @Chimchimcharoo … is your user name from the film Mary Poppins. I can hear Julie Andrews in my ear now 😬 Being mindful, planning, prepping and being consistent will defo help.
