HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@TheRealHousewife - love a bit of Mary poppins! And spoonfuls of sugar! And rum punch! 🤭

Figgit · 30/12/2021 09:25

I would like to join please - piled on weight over the last 18 months after an ACL injury and wasn’t a sulphur to start with. Began intermittent fasting about 2 weeks ago and already lost a few pounds, but have a lot to go.
I really struggle with exercise as my knee is still not fully healed and find food difficult - asd and adhd mean I find it difficult to feel full and so can easily overeat.

2toastornot2toast · 30/12/2021 09:27

So my plan is- yogurt and fruit or scrambled eggs for breakfast. Fruit or carrot and cheese for snack. Lunch will be egg/ham/chicken salad or stirfry or similar. Then tea will be a normal.meal but less carbs- cottage pie, stirfry, (not sure whether to eat pasta??) Jacket potato etc.

Chimchimcharoo · 30/12/2021 09:51

Am making soup with all the leftover Xmas veggies in fridge. Porridge and fruit for breakfast. I know this week won’t be brilliant but I can make some good decisions today!

TokyoSushi · 30/12/2021 10:07

Hello! Also joining in please, I'd like to lose 2 stone by early summer. I'd also like it to be a new way of life rather than a fad for a couple of weeks!

Main issue is snacking and eating junk, like a whole Terry's chocolate orange in one go!

Plan is low calorie and low carb tracking via my fitness pal. I already do 2 classes per week but I'm going to push a bit harder in those. In addition, I'm going to brisk walk x3 per week and use DH guest gym pass x1 per week.

As prep I have bought a lovely new water bottle as plan to drink loads of water, a new running type jacket and joined Audible for the walks.

So I have a plan, now I just need to start! 4th January here I come!

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 10:51

Welcome @Figgit sorry to read about your injury… what is an ACL injury if you don’t mind me asking?

@2toastornot2toast sounds tasty 😋

@Chimchimcharoo I agree MP is a great movie! Yes choosing wisely is always is beneficial but not always easy. Veg soup is very nutritious and nurturing 🍲 Enjoy!

Welcome @TokyoSushi That’s totally the right mindset! Way of life sustainable way of eating/living rather than a flash in the pan punitive plan which is doomed to fail. 👌 Getting water in is one of my weaknesses… used to love it, now I’d rather have a tea or coffee. I try to get into the habit of a glass of water on rising and before meals. Good luck 🤞

How To Develop Good Habits might be a useful read for people.

Thank you @TheRealHousewife
I tore my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) last year. It’s still not 100% so high impact exercise is a no-go.

ShoppingBasket · 30/12/2021 11:06

Plan today
Meal 1 - banana mid morning just not hungry in the mornings at moment.
Meal 2 red pepper soup (lidl) with crackerbread and cheese triangle.
Meal 3, baked potato, tuna mayo and sweetcorn and salad.

I will start with dinners properly next week just using up what's in the cupboard.
5pm onwards is a trigger point for me, I seem to be looking for sugar.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 11:13

Sounds painful! 😣 @Figgit

@ShoppingBasket 3:00 - 5:00pm is the danger zone! I find if I’ve had enough protein/healthy fats with my lunch (and afternoon snack for those who snack) it keeps me satiated, blood sugars stable and the snack dragon 🐉 at bay! When the pangs hit and can’t be distracted away what about a few nuts? Or a cracker with peanut butter? Or slices of apple and cheese etc. Something light, nutritious & satisfying.

Wow! So many newbies!!
Welcome to each and every one of you!!

I joined this group a few months and it's been a great support and a great way to let of steam when needed.

I've lost 3 stones in 2021 and it was hard bloody work! I started with noom at the end of January which I found helpful, food logging, weighing portions, calorie counting.

When that finished, I carried on by myself and I looked in to exercising, I started swimming in June then bootcamp (HIIT) in October which I'm loving!

The biggest boost in my weight loss journey was giving up alcohol for a month! I lost 10lbs in that time and then plateaued for ages. Bootcamp didn't make me lose weight but my body has changed loads.

This article on weight plateau really helped me
www.secondnature.io/guides/mind/motivation/weight-loss-plateaus-explained?campaignid=8918399894&adgroupid=87186600622&adid=411990390160&gclid=CjwKCAiAv_KMBhAzEiwAs-rX1JrbfsoA0UO8-3riolFSbAYpPhquqQ8aN_GpoGFbtCDSy8OoLYJUAhoC0m0QAvD_BwE

My top tips are
Accept that at times it will be a hard slog
Calorie counting
Weigh portions/portion control
Meal planning and prepping
Fresh ingredients where possible
Watch out for liquid calories
Drink lots of water

And biggest tip is self forgiveness!!!!
OK so you had a shit day yesterday and hit the box of chocolates like Bruce Bogtrotter!! It's going to happen, you're human!! It's how you deal with it the next day that counts, don't give up, carry on, make better food choices!

Good luck everyone!!

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 12:07

Thank you!! 😊

FireworkParrot · 30/12/2021 12:42

Thank you all for the warm invite. I am struggling a lot with food at the moment, there's just so much of it in the house after Christmas and being off from work and out of routine is not helping. I've decided to change one thing and at the moment that is doing something active every day, I've just got back in from a 3 mile walk. Getting a walk outside in the fresh air makes me feel so much better I have to say.

I've also ordered the Fast 800 book as I've heard a lot about it. I'm not sure it's a plan I'm going to follow but I respect Michael Moseley and his advice so think it could be an interesting read and have some good recipe ideas.

buzzofthebumblebee · 30/12/2021 12:46

Yep - Great post You !!!! Thanks for that.

Can't believe that this is on page 6 and we're not even in Jan yet. Lots of positive weight-loss vibes around then !!!!

buzzofthebumblebee · 30/12/2021 12:49

Firework - that's how I started back in Sept. I followed the broad principles and eating patterns go Fast800, but upped calories to about 1300-1400 / day. Plus combining exercise. I've lost 25lbs since beginning sept.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 30/12/2021 12:54

Thanks @TheRealHousewife

Just back from a walk and about to do the online shop - time for some healthy meal planning.

Youdoyoutoday · 30/12/2021 12:59

@FireworkParrot When I started to lose weight it was at the end of January as I didn't want to make a new years resolution I knew I wouldnt keep with so much Xmas food and treats in the house!

Good plan to take smaller steps in the right direction! Welcome and good luck!

Chocolatetrifle · 30/12/2021 13:02

Hi, I would love to join. I'm probably about 2.5 stones overweight. I say 'probably' as I'm too scared to go on the scales

I've had two babies in the last 4 years plus gestational diabetes so I really need to get a grip of myself and follow a pre-diabetes diet properly and stop eating Quality Streets. I'm 41 and know I really need to take this seriously now for my own health and future. I am a terrible hormonal eater and have disrupted sleep ever night. I start with good intentions then let it all slip away for no real reason other than being greedy.

I'm thinking of low carb, low sugar mixed with some intermittent fasting. Good luck everyone, we can do it.

poopyface · 30/12/2021 13:11

Wanting to join also! 2.5 stone put on over the last two years - need it off. Alcohol is my vice so cutting that out completely for dry Jan and hopefully much reduced after that - need to start doing my steps again and portion control - covid with lockdowns and WFH etc has not been kind to my waistline! Have holiday in June - would love to lose most of it by then.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 13:35

@FireworkParrot Well done on getting your fresh air on a 3 mile walk! Excellent! I also have a lot of respect for MM. I received his book this morning after pre-ordering it earlier this year. It’s ok. Some great recipes in it. I did the online plan last year and lost the most I ever have in the timeframe. However my sleep suffered plus I found I started to my lose hair! I do try to have 2 lighter days a week though and the other days I try not to go over 1200. I’m not very tall and petite framed. Keto-esk menus serve me well, going for lower carb rather than low carb iyswim. Plus I’m coeliac so cant have gluten/wheat products which helps. My body still needs complex carbs which I get from beans, pulses, seeds, quinoa etc.

You’re welcome @TooManyPlatesInMotion 👍 You’ve reminded me of needing to do an online shop for next week.

Welcome @Chocolatetrifle you’ve come to the right place if you’re looking for support and inspiration! Don’t be too hard on yourself, as a mum of 2 you have a lot taking your time up. In my eyes mums are hero’s!

Welcome @poopyface you’ve outlined the principles you want to follow so that’s a step in the right direction. Keep posting & reading for inspiration. Good luck.

@TheRealHousewife, thank you for the welcome Smile. Great that so many of us are on board.

NoodleSlurper · 30/12/2021 14:28

Some impressive weight loss from pps from earlier threads!

I have accidentally given myself a great psychological start. It seems my starting weight was a blip and I have already “lost” 3lb since Boxing Day. I’ll take it! Clearly just water weight or similar since I haven’t even started beyond being mindfully moderate(ish). But it’s nice and encouraging—also SW was 201 so cheering to dip back into the 190s.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 14:34

@Chocolatetrifle you’re very welcome.

@NoodleSlurper that is a psychological boost! 👍

Welcome to all the new newbies.

@Chocolatetrifle not fun as it may be, I would say get on the scales as then you'll have a starting point and you'll know when you have lost something. I would also recommend using a tape measure, I measured my right thigh and my tummy across my tummy button. This really helped when the scales said I was staying the same but the tape measure said I was smaller.

Welcome @poopyface and good call re the alcohol. Nice as it is at times it can be empty calories.

SW October 2019 - 14 stone.
Eventually tested and was food intolerant to so many things.
No time at all - 12.5 stone.
April 2020 - got covid.
May 2020 - started couch 25 km.
August 2020 - 11 stone 13.4 lb.
Oct 2020 - 11 stone 6.2lb
Nov 2020 - 11 stone 0.8 lb
May 2021 - 10 stone 13.2lb.
July 2021 - 10 stone 10.6 lb
September - November poorly with glandular fever, a week in hospital and 10 weeks in bed with no running. Usually I run 5 times a week.
Today 11 stone 10.6

Just to show ^ that this is why I am in the 🐢🐢🐢🐢club, that sometimes illness gets in the way but I have kept going and will keep trying.

Covid test was negative so I'm good to go for my procedure tomorrow. Had a nice chat with my oldest friend this morning as still worrying I won't wake up from the general anaesthetic. May just have light sedation but it seems more likely it will be a GA.

Chocolatetrifle · 30/12/2021 16:40

@SunshineCake1, well done with your weight loss and determination. You are right, the scales don't lie and there's no point being in denial!

Good luck for your procedure tomorrow, hope all goes well, wishing you a speedy recovery.
