HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I did lose 1lb this week so quite pleased. Walking is going to be tough this week, I slipped on the top step outside yesterday and landed on my arse on the edge of the steps. I have the biggest bruise on my right bum cheek now and walking is very sore as is turning over in bed. I'm feeling very old but relieved I didn't break anything.

buzzofthebumblebee · 17/01/2022 18:32

ouch recycled - hope you heal up soon. But congrats on your loss.

Welcome @Ste23321 There is no set formula on this thread. Just lots of positive support for each other! Do what works for you. Some post just on weigh-in day (generally weds but whatever works for you), some of us like to put up menus for accountability. Others like to post more frequently for a chat (moan!).

As Sunshine rightly said, draw a line under today. Start afresh tomorrow.

Crazzzycat · 17/01/2022 19:00

Welcome to the thread @Ste23321.

I think most of us will have been where you are now. Sometimes it just takes a few tries to get started, but hopefully you’ll find this thread helpful for staying motivated

@buzzofthebumblebee, the boot thing really sucks. It’s even becoming a problem with my jeans now. I’ve gone from them being tight around my waist and hips, to them being tight around my calves! On the plus side, I can walk up hills pretty fast these days. Where I live, that’s actually a useful skill to have Grin

That sounds like a really nasty fall @Recycledblonde. I hope you recover soon.

SunshineCake1 · 17/01/2022 19:19

You do what you want @Ste23321. @TheRealHousewife suggested WOW weigh on Wednesday but some weigh daily, some weekly, it is up to you. I don't have a set pattern. I hardly ever post what food I eat but it is good when people do as it gives others ideas.

Oh no @Recycledblonde. Get some arnica on there and take it easy.

Ste23321 · 17/01/2022 19:44

Thank you all. I’ll post up my weigh ins on Tuesdays if that’s okay as I’m starting my diet tomorrow. I’ve tried many times under so many usernames. My record for healthy eating is 5 days so if I get to 2 weigh ins that will be great! Goodluck everyone.

@Recycledblonde that sounds painful. Wishing you speedy recovery!

Raspberry12 · 17/01/2022 20:00

@Ste23321 I’ve been posting what I eat + exercise. I find it keeps me accountable and motivated. I’m aware though it might be a bit repetitive and boring though! 😬 I also quite like hearing about what everyone is eating as it gives me ideas. And I’m not weighing myself at all, so I guess whatever works for you.

I had a 16k step count today and did 30 minutes of yoga.

Meals

Breakfast: greek yoghurt, raspberries & linseeds

Lunch: beef, black beans, roast peppers, avocado and brown basmati rice

Dinner: pan fried salmon, spinach, roasted cauliflower and olives. Apple, pear and blackberry crumble with double cream for pudding.

Snacks: 1 date, pistachios and 2 squares dark chocolate

I’m feeling quite motivated and my clothes are feeling a little bit looser 😁 So, I think I might set myself a goal of getting down to a UK size 10 to 12 by easter (I’m currently 12 to 14). I think this would be around a 29 or 30 waist for a new pair of jeans by then 🤞

Anyone else got a goal / time frame in mind?

SavedbytheShaktimat · 17/01/2022 20:02

Checking in! Weighed this morning and not lost this week. 2lbs last week so am happy if that’s average of 1lb a week - will revisit plan next Monday if not progressing. Struggling to get enough movement in my life and while I am on Dry January I find it hard to deprive myself too much on food. Especially when it’s FREEZING!

But still staying off snacks and keeping to TRE which I feel a lot better for - good to know I’m giving body proper chance to repair itself during a long fast and so nice not going to bed on a full stomach that so often happens otherwise, and having a motivation to avoid the post 8.30 little treat or 5… 😆 Going to see if I can stomach black tea first thing to not ‘cheat’ my fast til splash of milk in coffee late morning.

Hoping everyone’s doing ok with steps, big or small.

ginsparkles · 17/01/2022 20:25

It's been a lousy day. Bad news selling my later fathers house, and mountain of questions from the buyers. My weekend off has now been cancelled.

I want to eat chocolate!!! So instead I'm bathing Dd and going to bed. Miserable and grumpy

Katiepants27 · 17/01/2022 20:45

Hello.
Is it OK if I join? I really need some accountability! Keep restarting a diet and then falling off the wagon every evening. I honestly have zero trust in myself now and am well and truly exasperated with myself!!

Currently 12st 8. I'm getting married next summer and hoping to go dress shopping this June. Therefore I really need to lose weight or the whole experience will be miserable. My goal is 10st 7, which is just over 2st to lose. In theory losing that by June should be fine, if I can only stop the self-sabotage...

I do a lot of walking in my spare time, but I have a sedentary office job which doesn't help. Love healthy food, especially vegetables, however I also have a pretty extreme addiction to chocolate biscuits!!

Hoping to use this group as motivation, if you'll have me? Smile

TheRealHousewife · 17/01/2022 20:47

Evening All

Thank you for the link about wobbly boards @Youdoyoutoday. I will try with trainers on 👍 I’ve also recently started waking up with extremely painful feet. I think it’s the increase in walking although I don’t do any great distance. I’ve got some insoles on order to see if they help.

@ginsparkles sorry to read that Gin

@SavedbytheShaktimat I think instant black coffee is more pleasant than black tea.

@Recycledblonde ouch 😣 Hope it’s not too sore!

@Ste23321 welcome to the thread. There are no rules, participate as much or as little as you like. Some posters weigh daily, some weekly and some monthly. Do what works for you. Good luck 🤞

I’d better get Thread 2 ready as this one is nearly full.

Posted a pic of my soup.

Cross posted …

A warm welcome to the thread @Katiepants27, off course we’ll have you join us 😬. Walking is excellent for weight loss as well as positive mental health👍 Perhaps don’t have the chocolate biscuits in the house or lock them away in the boot of your car 🚗 so they are not as accessible and gives you thinking time before you snaffle them up.

I've had a bad few days, not expecting to lose this week but hoping not to gain. On a positive note Lidl are selling pomelos again. They are fiddly to peel to take the segments out of the pith, so slower too eat and not too sweet. Peel a few segments and then eat in front of the telly

campingqueen121 · 17/01/2022 22:47

I totally get you @buzzofthebumblebee, even when I was 2 stone lighter I was unhappy with my size and felt I constantly needed to tone or lose more, funny as growing up I was so underweight and totally lacked confidence because of it. Perhaps I'm someone who will just never be happy with my body shape. Trying desperately not to pass this trait on.

I started c25k today, which went well once I got started. Also did a t25 workout.

Meals today

Breakfast : salmon, Boiled egg, asparagus and Ryvita
Lunch : mackerel salad
Dinner : beef Stew

Snacks : banana, square of chocolate, orange, biscut and satsuma. I haven't drank nearly enough water, back on it tomorrow.

Ste23321 · 18/01/2022 07:04

My first weigh in: exactly 11 stones 0lb. Goodluck everyone!

129orbust · 18/01/2022 07:32

A little bit up from Friday but not too bad
132.6lbs - I'll live with that and have a focused day again today and see where I am in the morning.
Have a great day everyone.

TheRealHousewife · 18/01/2022 09:14

Good Morning All

Thread 2 LOSE IT! January 2022

Stunning morning here again 🥶☀️

@Ste23321 Good luck 👍

@campingqueen121 well done on starting your C25 & T25 👍👏

I’ve not heard of pomelos @Allotment123, I’ll have a look for them. Are they citrus?

Menu
Meal 1 - Chicken, vegetable and bean soup.
Mea 2 - Spag bol (without the spaghetti) served with a nice fresh crunchy salad 🥗
Tea, black coffee, water, 2 satsumas.

Photo = sunrise this morning ⛅️

What a stunning photo @TheRealHousewife 🤩

My plan for today:

Lunch: Thai green curry soup, pitta bread with peanut butter & sriracha and a satsuma
Dinner: Tofu stir fry with satay sauce and a pear

Exercise wise, I’m planning to be busy: a short walk, 20 minute row and 30 minutes on the exercise bike. I’ve found rowing to be an excellent stress reliever, so try and do a short session most days during my lunch hour. One of the benefits of working from home!

8stone13 · 18/01/2022 10:47

Morning all 🙂

Day 17 - Tues 18th Jan - 9s 4lb
BMI 21.5
BF 24

I had a rare night to myself last night - no kids or partner, possibly only the 5th such night in around 17 years 🤔 - so I watched a DVD in bed & had some of my Christmas chocolate. Absolutely no regrets!

@Crazzzycat & anyone else who can help - I'm thinking of buying an exercise bike, can you recommend one? I think from the brief bit of research I've done I want one that has arm resistance trainers on it too. It must be foldable as there isn't tons of room. I have a feeling I'd use it, I'm not doing brilliantly with getting out for walks for various reasons & I think something I had ready access to in the house (& that actually provides better opportunities for improving fitness) is a good route to go.

@TheRealHousewife thanks for the new thread 🙂

Youdoyoutoday · 18/01/2022 11:04

Morning all!

Went swimming this morning and maintained my PB of 38 lengths in 40 minutes so I'm pleased with that.

I'm still looking forward to feeling energetic though as I'm feeling knackered again!

Hope you all have a good day 😊

Youdoyoutoday · 18/01/2022 11:07

Great photo @TheRealHousewife

Have to admit that I do see some very pretty sights so early in the morning when going off to exercise or coming home that it does make me smile 😃

Crazzzycat · 18/01/2022 12:57

@8stone13, I have a DKN exercise bike, but it’s not foldable 🤔

I have to be honest though and confess that I find spending time on the exercise bike boring as f*ck! It’s best done in front of the tv or while listening to music or an audio book. Even then, I find it soooo boring 🥱

I much prefer my rowing machine. It works 80% of your muscles, resulting in a much more intense workout. I only got mine at the start of December and do 20 minutes on it, 4-5x a week. The difference it’s made to my body and fitness levels is incredible. I had my COVID booster last week and while chatting to my DH, wearing a big jumper, he suddenly said “OMG crazzzycat, your bicep is swollen”. It took us a couple of seconds and some prodding to work out that we weren’t looking at a swollen muscle at all. My arm muscles have simply changed so quickly that neither of us had noticed it before 😂

That’s my very long winded way of asking, have you considered a rowing machine? Lots of those are foldable

8stone13 · 18/01/2022 13:01

@Crazzzycat I hadn't thought of a rowing machine at all. Instinctively I think I'd prefer a bike or a treadmill as when I've (briefly) used rowing machines before they haven't 'got me' IYKWIM 😀 Whereas running or cycling is more me. My good friends keep telling me to get a cross trainer, though god knows where I'd put it! Thanks for replying, I appreciate it & I'll put some thought into what you've said 👍🏻 🤔

Crazzzycat · 18/01/2022 13:58

I have a cross trainer too @8stone13. It’s a really good workout and, for me, much more interesting than the exercise bike. But you’re right, it’s a big machine.

I think @SunshineCake1 has an exercise bike too and might be able to give a different (and perhaps more positive) perspective?

8stone13 · 18/01/2022 14:00

Thanks @Crazzzycat 🙂

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer too @SunshineCake1 🚴🏻

ImALittlePea · 18/01/2022 14:03

Well I managed to swerve the chocolate and the wine yesterday, despite the surge in hormones! Considering I was stood with my fingers in the chocolate box, I'm pretty proud of that 😁
