HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@Princessbubbles actually bedtime/before sleep is a really good time to listen to information. Our brains do wonderful things with new info during sleep 😴 Good luck 🤞

@onwardsandupwards22 I naturally don’t want food before 12:00 so generally have meal 1 at this time. We generally eat our last meal between 18:00 - 19:30, at which point the kitchen is cleaned & closed. So in effect I do 17:7. Calories split more or less evenly depending on what I eat. Works for me.

Bless you for starting this!

Just walked/waddled home from another family get together - diet starts tomorrow

I'm doing lipotrim for 12 weeks. I know it's a questionable choice but I have a real problem with food (Richard Osman's discussion on food addiction in the paper this week hit a nerve) and I need to take food out of the equation.

Good luck! I have at least 4 stone to lose

GeorgiePorge · 28/12/2021 22:53

I'd like to join in please!
I've about 5 St to lose... piled weight on since having DS 3 months ago and want to try again for another before end of 2022 -but really want to get my BMI in 'healthy range first.

just planning on calorie control and exercise but I have a really sweet tooth so staying away from biscuits and cake is the hard bit for me!

Good luck to everyone on here sending out lots of positive thoughts and will power hoping we all smash it it in 2022!

littleindi · 28/12/2021 22:54

Me me me me me too please! I am never very good at sticking to weight loss resolutions as I sometimes find them another anxiety trigger, decide a "diet" is a stress I don't need and then emotionally eat another takeaway or cake or five. But so many of your stories spoke to me Flowers!

I had my second baby in July and the last stone won't budge. I exercise already but eat a lot of junk. I'm so tired juggling the baby and the toddler, but DH and I must do better for the kids this year. Ill be weaning DS2 soon and I don't want my DS1 to get into bad eating habits. So the plan for me is planning itself - nutritious, easy family meals I can bung in the oven which will feed all 4 of us. Any recommendations always welcome!

PaulineFowlersCardigan · 28/12/2021 23:25

Me too please! I turned 45 today, I’m only 5ft 2 and I feel frumpy, fed up and desperate for a permanent change, not the quick fix diet where it all just piles back on again! I want to lose 3 stone and stop smoking ..I want to feel healthier for 2022!

PaulineFowlersCardigan · 28/12/2021 23:26

Meant to add that I’m going to start New Year’s Day, 16/8 and at least a walk every day, and go from there.

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2021 23:57

A warm welcome @joecormac on these threads we pride ourselves on not judging or knocking anyones method. Each of us knows what works for us and its never a one size fits all. You do what you feel/know will work for you. Let us know how you get on.

@GeorgiePorge congratulations on your baby and welcome. You plan sounds sensible; getting into a healthy bmi bracket is very beneficial, especially when you’re intending to have another baby 👶👍

@PaulineFowlersCardigan Happy Birthday 🥳 New Year, New Pauline 😊

I'm in please. I have about 6 stone to lose. I would like to lose it by April 2023 when I hit a big birthday. So 16 months. I’ve got a few events coming up this year. So I have some interim target dates. First one is April. I’m doing mfp / calorie counting and have joined a gym with weekly personal training sessions. Also need to drink more water.

CommanderBurnham · 29/12/2021 00:35

Me please! 2 stone to lose. Going to start 16:8 as soon as I'm better but I'm eating as nutritiously well as I can while I have Covid.

The time has come.

fallfallfall · 29/12/2021 00:41

hello :)
still a bit more stuff to work out but ready to restart the year and try to get my weight (under/closer to) 140 lbs...
still some hurdles to get over but i'll be lurking and eventually joining in with support.

TomNooksSweaterVest · 29/12/2021 01:13

Hi, long, looooong time lurker wishing to join in! I need some major lifestyle changes...

I need to lose around 5 stone and be much, much more active. I do have some physical and mental health issues which do limit me at the moment BUT I believe if I lose weight and build up an acceptable level of fitness then I can learn to deal with and live with these a lot better.

Looking forward to January and sharing this 2022 journey with you all.

autieok · 29/12/2021 02:50

I'm doing dry January plus 14 hour fasts Monday - Friday. Meat free in the week and trying to cut unhealthy snacks out. Aiming for around 1500 cals a day. I start jan 2nd n want to lose 1.5 stone. Good luck every one

ShoppingBasket · 29/12/2021 02:51

Would love to join also. I have 2 and half stone to lose ideally but would be happy with 2. I was successful on slimming World approx 4 years ago where I was my slimmest but it has slowly crept back during covid and now I'm the heaviest I've been in a long time. Annoyed at myself and embarrassed.
Can't fit into clothes, had to buy a new coat this winter! Work uniform is now getting tight. Feel pressure on my knees when walking.
I'm hoping to start slowly from tomorrow and then hit the ground running Monday. Exercise at minimum 3 times a week. My food will be calorie counted on my fitness pal app and my meals will be slimming World versions but not free for all carbs and no food will be a syn. Find I won't have healthier food because it is seen as a syn but happily eat 2 choc bars.
I need somewhere to check in my weight loss. Best of luck

NoodleSlurper · 29/12/2021 02:56

I would like to join please! I have been on a couple of weight loss threads before under different names. But have just tipped 200lb. I was 125-130 for all my adult life until DC4 Xmas Shock.

Calorie counting does not suit me. To begin with I am going to do No S (no snacks, seconds or sugar) with moderate to low carbs.

I also have some health issues: migraine, NAFLD, joint problems, and most would be improved with weight loss and/or better diet.

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2021 08:52

Good Morning All

Welcome @GreenJulie @CommanderBurnham @TomNooksSweaterVest @autieok @ShoppingBasket @NoodleSlurper

You’ve come to the right place! If you all do as you pledge YOU will see RESULTS. Remind yourselves why you’re doing it, how you’d like to look, how you’d feel when you succeed! This time next week we can all have made positive progress towards our goals and you’ll feel very pleased that you applied yourselves. Good Luck!

This is my planned menu for today:-
Menu
Meal 1 - Salad with cold cuts.
Meal 2 - Tray bake with red pepper, red onion, carrot, sprouts, broccoli and salmon.

Water, tea, coffee, few nuts.

Have a great day! Whatever you’re doing, do it with gusto as it all helps.

ShoppingBasket · 29/12/2021 09:31

My menu for today
Meal 1 - Banana
Meal 2 - red pepper soup, crispbread crackers x4 and a cheese triangle.
Meal 3. Omelette and beans.

Drink : tea. Will try drink water but bad at doing it.

That is 757 cals so I have 400 for snacking on fruit/veg and I might need to have a small bit of sugar to keep the sugar crash of Christmas at Bay.

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2021 09:46

@ShoppingBasket tasty menu! you have loads of choices left … could have a great stir fry or tray bake with 400 cals 😋 I love veg! Tbh I prefer it over most fruits. The fibre from veg is so beneficial for our biome in the guts/stomach etc.

I want to join in! I used to be a steady 127 before pregnancy and since having my baby (5months now) I've found I tend to eat the stress away and have no time to calorie count or prep healthy dinners. I've tried calorie counting before and using MFP but I just can't stick with it. I find it boring and I become obsessive over numbers and counting and I feel really restricted which makes it even harder.

I've calculated my Tdee (not breastfeeding) and I'm 1600kcal/day to maintain my current weight and 1100 to lose a lb a week. That's below the 1200 recommended so I'll be sticking to 1200 to 1300.

So I've decided to try Slim Fast to kick start my weight loss. It's 1300kcal/day so I should steadily lose weight and knowing that's the amount of calories that I should be consuming, I think it will change my perception of the amount of 'food' that I require. I think it'll be more a mental change for me, to be more mindful and slow my eating down because at the moment I'm just shovelling it in. I've bought the SF 7 day ready to go starter pack, some SF porridge, guiltfree whip bars for additional snacks, ~100kcal normal crisps from tesco, some fruit and veg for snacks, and some of Tesco's Slim replacement bars and shakes. I've given myself a variety so I don't become bored of it. I've also meal prepped ~600kcal dinners and bought some ready meals. It's all convenience at the moment because I really don't have the time or mental energy to count calories or make healthy dinners. After a few weeks I'll incorporate more proper food and ease off of it so I don't just put it all back on. I want to be on it long enough to change mentally but not too long that my metabolism suffers. I'll also trying to go walking more with baby. I'll be starting on Monday 3rd with a weigh in!

ShoppingBasket · 29/12/2021 10:26

Or I could have a bar of dairy milk Wink

Tray bake is a good idea, I've never done one. Is there anything in particular you put on it for seasoning? How long do you leave it in for? Thanks!

I feel better in myself already taking control. Although, I did take a bite of DS white buttery toast he had leftover but I threw it in the bin when I realised what I was doing!! Mindless eating!

malificent7 · 29/12/2021 10:53

Hi all. Can i join please? I ate too well over Christmas and now weigh 70kg. Before I was 68kg. I want to be under 65kg.
Working ft so cannot go to gym as easily.

I am going to do calorie counting and cut out booze again.

SilverRingahBells · 29/12/2021 11:09

Checking in. I'm only slightly overweight but I'm flabby and have a wardrobe full of clothes I don't fit. A stone's weight loss would be good but I'd settle for seven pounds.
I've set myself a target of wearing some of my favourite clothes to a big social event at the beginning of April, starting with Dry January which I do every year and should save me a bunch of calories and C25K.

Lupinspotato · 29/12/2021 11:51

Hi everyone, I’m also in. I’ll probably start officially on the third with the diet and exercise. I had a baby well over a year ago and still haven’t managed to lose the weight. I’d like to fit into my old clothes (comfortably) again.

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2021 11:57

Welcome & Congratulations on your baby @marmilade92 The thinking behind your SF plan makes sense 👍. Good luck 🤞

@ShoppingBasket 😅 Taking control is a good feeling! In regards to tray bake I try to make all the pieces of veg are similar in size and thickness. Myself I put the prepped veg in a bowl or bag and drizzle chilli oil, grated garlic, S&P (use any seasoning you fancy) place on an oven tray and roast in a pre heated oven 180 ish for 30-40 mins. Roasted veg also make a very tasty soup when blitzed in stock.

Welcome @malificent7 jump right in. Working full time makes it’s so difficult to fit in exercise. Do you have stairs at work that you could go up and down rather than use a lift. Do you use public transport and try getting off a stop earlier. Do you have a lunch break where you could go walk about.

Welcome @SilverRingahBells you’ve made a start by planning how you’re going to do it. C25K will really help too! Good luck.

I’m in. Managed to lose 2 stone last year- another stone to go.

I started on a mean plan for two months which completely reset my habits. I’d tried all the low carb, fasting etc, over the years, none worked for me.

A diet plan meant I couldn’t cheat, got used to smaller portions, and got back into the breakfast/lunch/dinner and a small snack routine.

I lost 1.5 stone in those 2 months, and have lost 1.5-2 lbs a month since going back to “normal” eating. Now 28lbs down. Stable for december which I’ll take as had work meals, takeaways etc as well as the christmas chocolate.
