Anyone else with 10st plus to lose?

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/12/2021 11:07

Im 30 and I weigh 19st 7lb.

Ideally I'd like to lose 10st. I'm obese and I hate it.
I started again dieting yesterday.

I can only manage 5000 steps a day due to being disabled, and I do those with a frame.

I'm hopeful that if I lose the weight there'll be less pressure on my already buggered joints.

Anyone else with a lot to lose would you like a daily check in thread with me?

I'm jealous @Echoes89 ! I'd love to be your weight. I'm aiming for 14st by Christmas. At the start of the year I never thought it would be possible so it seems crazy to be saying that and for it to be realistic. Can you think of any positives about weightloss to inspire you and give you some motivation back? Or break it down into small targets - aim to lose 1lb this week and then next week you'll be a bit closer.

Well done @ShinyPikachu half a stone is fantastic. I eat a lot of ready meals or easy food so there's nothing wrong with oven chips! I love the steam fresh bags of veg that go in the microwave. They are a bit expensive, but they're a pre-portioned mix of 3 different veg.

<<waves>>

Hi everyone, hope it's okay if I join in? I've read the whole thread over the space of the last few days.

I've been in a battle with my weight for my entire adult life but when I hit 40 (8 years ago) I had a massive "fuck this shit" moment and decided to accept being "fat and 40"... I've been pretty happy since then, enjoying eating whatever I liked and ignoring the creeping health issues (high BP, high cholesterol, arthritis in one knee) until about a month ago when a blood test told me I had type 2 diabetes. I sulked and moped for a couple of days ("but I LIKE eating cheese at most meals" etc) but then realised that maybe this is me being given a second chance. I was also a 20 a day smoker at the time.

For the first time ever I am now trying to lose weight for my health and it's slightly strange. I've managed to give up the fags, I've joined a gym (just for swimming at the moment until my knee is less weak) and I've completely overhauled my diet. Not following any specific plan, just trying to eat better and cut out most of the crap! I'm full of determination at the moment but I'm realistic enough to know that I've been here before and it never lasts 🙁

So yeah, that's my story. I'm the heaviest I've ever been and at only 5'4" I'm sure I must be in the "morbidly obese" category 😧

Hey @NormaLouiseBates welcome! I can't believe you read the whole thread 😧I started off just wanting to see what would happen but didn't think I'd achieve anything, and now I'm 102lbs down from where I started. Your 13lbs is a great start, well done! And yes, your current weight is morbidly obese - but as soon as you lose 5 more lbs you won't be! That will be an amazing achievement.

Thank you!

I did take quite a few days but once I got reading everyone's stories I couldn't stop until I'd seen them through!

Over 100lb is absolutely amazing, huge congratulations 🥳

I hope @HerRoyalHappiness is doing okay.

ShinyPikachu · 15/11/2022 19:47

You're doing so well @Echoes89 - I like Duck's suggestion of breaking it up into little goals for now.

Thanks @DuckWithOneWing - I used to buy those steak bags too but so many of them have peas which I can't stand and i just find it a lot easier to get frozen veg and boil up a pan of whatever, even if it's just for me.

Welcome @NormaLouiseBates - you were definitely brave to read through the whole thread. We must be needing a new one soon.

And yeah, I hope @HerRoyalHappiness and the others who have dropped off the thread are all ok and find their way back to us when they're ready. Flowers

I am still reading but not in a good place.
Very tearful, called GP this morning but can't have a telephone appt until 19th Dec! Possibly peri menopause.

You are all doing amazing keep going!

That's absolutely ridiculous! I'm so sorry, I hope things improve for you soon.

I've been swimming today and am on my second water bottle (with sugar free squash though... I just can't do plain water). About to have some home made soup and a seeded roll for dinner. Weigh day tomorrow morning and I do hope the scales are kind to me 😬

Hope everyone is having a good week!

ShinyPikachu · 16/11/2022 18:34

Lots of un-MNetty hugs to you @Sunshineandrainbow I really hope you can speak to the doctor soon. Flowers

I'm in my early 40s now and been wondering about peri recently. My periods have always been irregular and often quite heavy but they've definitely changed recently, still irregular but now with one shorter cycle followed by a longer cycle (I always just had long cycles before), but they're a lot heavier and thankfully lasting not as long as they used to (averaging 2-4 days now when I was always 5-7 before) so I don't know if this is my body changing as I get closer to menopause. I've been tracking them so I can hopefully speak to my doctor soon and then have that to show them as I always get flustered trying to speak to them in person about anything.

I'm not feeling very well today, so I've had to skip Pilates this week and I've ordered a delivery so I don't have to think about feeding the kids while I'm not 100%. I just had a burger for myself but I've only eaten toast for breakfast today and that's been it as I haven't been hungry so I'm probably under my calories even with that.

ShinyPikachu · 16/11/2022 18:35

Sorry @NormaLouiseBates I didn't see your post! Good luck for weigh in, sounds like it's been a good day for you today. Smile

No problem at all!

I'm peri menopausal and have been for at least the last couple of years. My periods are literally all over the place... they stopped completely last year for 6 months but then randomly started again 🤷🏻‍♀️ they're heavier and much more painful than they used to be too.

Yay, isn't being a woman so much fun? 🙄😂

NormaLouiseBates · 17/11/2022 07:38

The scales have been kind to me today... 5lb off! More than I was expecting but I'll take it lol. I've gone from "morbidly obese" to just "obese" according to the BMI thingie and the number is finally below 40 😳 still a long way to go but I'll get there.

I've got an online diabetes support/discussion group thing this morning which my GP put me onto so hoping that will be helpful.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Sunshineandrainbow · 19/11/2022 09:55

Morning all and thanks for your kind words.
I have finally weighed myself again.... Haven't lost but havent gained so still 9lb off from my starting weight which I am pleased about as it seems to slip back on so easily!
Crisps really are my downfall! I need to stop buying them.

ShinyPikachu · 19/11/2022 12:14

Well done on your loss and the BMI change @NormaLouiseBates

Maintaining is always better than a gain @Sunshineandrainbow and I totally understand you with the crisps. I try to get things like Quavers or Wotsits now at least so they're lower in calories but the packs are so tiny it's too tempting to go back and back again for more.

I've been ill this week so I'm not expecting miracles on my weigh in on Monday but we'll see.

NormaLouiseBates · 19/11/2022 17:06

Oh crisps 🤦🏻‍♀️ crisps are my biggest weakness. I could easily polish one of those sharing sized bags with lunch and then still want more later on for snacking 😭

I still have them now but just one small pack (and like @ShinyPikachu says, how small are they these days?! 🙄). Snack a jacks are nice too, the salt & vinegar ones are very flavourful.

DuckWithOneWing · 20/11/2022 17:40

I love crisps! I have them most days. I don't buy the large bags any more, because I will eat them all. I tend to eat things like Pom Bear now, but sometimes only real crisps will do. And one advantage of shrinkflation is that you do get less - which means fewer calories!

@Sunshineandrainbow have you had a good look around your GP website? Mine does econsult, but they hide it really well so I came across it by accident. It's not ideal because they will phone you at any time over the next few days, but it might be a way to get help sooner.

@NormaLouiseBates well done on your 5lb loss! And your first milestone of many.

I'm finally feeling well enough to make the soup I had planned to make last weekend. I like making soup because it's just chopping things then leaving it to it. I don't know how my weightloss is doing this week because I feel like I've barely left the sofa. I've had days where I've completely lost my appetite, but I've also had days where I'm obsessed with cheese.

Sunshineandrainbow · 20/11/2022 18:19

I will try the snack a Jack's Thanks for the tip. I do sometimes get the fake tesco pom bear, think they are called bunny bites!

I will start the laptop and have a proper look around my GP website thanks for that.
I am going to make soup for work this week.
Need a new thread soon so we don't lose each other.

ShinyPikachu · 21/11/2022 12:46

Gain this week but I expected that with everything going on and how crap I've felt all week.

I can set up a new thread for us later if no one else does it before then. I don't want to lose people but I've never been on a group thread that's reached the end before (just ones with one OP who updates everyone) so that's a MN first for me.

Sunshineandrainbow · 22/11/2022 10:26

Just a little blip shiny.
What's your plan for today?

Please do start another thread that would be great.

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:54

New thread for us all!

http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/4683388-10st-plus-to-lose-part-2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:57

I'm still not back to calorie counting quite yet, but I'm almost back to normal so hopefully back to Pilates tomorrow and I'm thinking about food choices more again, whereas when I'm ill I just focus on trying to eat anything.

Now it's getting colder (and because I had a swollen throat) I've been making nice hot porridge for my breakfast most days. I'll work out my calories for it once I'm tracking again but it's just half a cup of oats, one cup of semi skimmed milk and cooked on the hob until it's the thickness I like. I do add a bit of sugar and extra milk on top afterwards so I'll probably start tracking calories again from my next weigh in on Monday and make sure I measure my sugar and the extra milk then too.
