Anyone else with 10st plus to lose?

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/12/2021 11:07

Im 30 and I weigh 19st 7lb.

Ideally I'd like to lose 10st. I'm obese and I hate it.
I started again dieting yesterday.

I can only manage 5000 steps a day due to being disabled, and I do those with a frame.

I'm hopeful that if I lose the weight there'll be less pressure on my already buggered joints.

Anyone else with a lot to lose would you like a daily check in thread with me?

Can I join in? Started at 22st at the beginning of 2020 and been dieting on and off since then. Currently low carbing and weigh 19st 2lbs. Still waiting to look thinner or to fit into smaller clothes. I'm 5ft 2 and in size 26 clothes. Also worried I will end up with loads of extra skin as I already have a massive overhang from 5 pregnancies.

HerRoyalHappiness · 30/12/2021 10:43

I'm worried about extra skin too but gather I'd rather that than my health be at risk.

I've got 12st to lose, but would be happy with 10st.

Lost 4 with slimming world a couple of years ago but put it back on. Don't want to go back but am happy following the diet at home and weighing weekly.

Dh and I are doing Dry January (from 4th, when he goes back to work) so that's 6-700 calls a day less without my wine. I lost a good bit last year by low carbing so that's the plan.

I hate my size 28 body. Mil gave me a £50 Yours voucher for Christmas and I intend to spend it on size 22-24 rather than 26-28. Give me a few months!

HerRoyalHappiness · 30/12/2021 11:05

weegiemum I'd live a voucher for new clothes once I've lost some weight! What a fab motivator.

As a message of hope myself and 3 friends decided this time last year to lose weight together.2 of us need to lose 10 stone. We do a weekly weigh in just saying total weight loss and waist loss. The heaviest of us has lost 3.5 stone and planning to lose 10 stone over 3 years. She has done it by walking 5 Km a day, walking up stairs more, swimming twice a week and not eating in the evening.

PieMistee · 30/12/2021 11:23

Also NO diet foods in fact the person who has lost the most as a percentage is the one that stopped drinking evil diet coke having found out it worsens metabolism. Good luck OP. Think very long term. You are young so need a lifestyle change not diets that never work.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 30/12/2021 11:27

I don't but just wanted to give you a cheer and some support!

I have recently lost just over 12 stone so I know how much of a mountain it feels.

I know we have spoken on the chronic pain thread but just wanted to share what exercises could work for you (I also need a frame and wheelchair).

It totally depends on your level of mobility but leg raises whilst seated with a resistance band around your knees. Lift leg and move out to the side. You can do this with arms as well. I've found the resistance bands are really helping with my strength and there are loads of examples online of how to use them.

I've also got a little cycle machine thing that sits under my desk. It helps meet my feet moving.

You are doing amazing to already manage 5000 steps a day with the frame!!

Good luck!!

Can I join too. I'm currently 122 kg (around 19 stone) but was 140 kg (around 22 stone). I started losing weight steadily after being diagnosed with sleep apnea. I thought excess weight caused sleep apnea but apparantly this isn't correct and weight gain is a symptom not always a cause. This loss stalled earlier this year and I've recently found out it was due to blood pressure medicine which known to cause weight gain. Started taking it a month before weight loss stalled so am now on another one which doesn't have this side effect. I'm now hopeful that I can get back on the weight loss track.

I'm also autistic and struggle with recognising how my body feels. I can't tell when I'm hungry or full or thirsty. So I have a fixed schedule for meals and eat a fixed amount. I use weightwatchers menu cards which set out all your meals for the day. It really helps me.

Thank you everyone and welcome. I'm so glad I started this thread. It's nice to see the encouragement and the praise from others.

Another day down. Stayed on the wagon. After a stressful afternoon at work I totally wanted to squash down my feelings with a cheese burger. But I've stayed strong.

How's everyone else doing?

HerRoyalHappiness · 30/12/2021 18:42

I've stuck to it but I'm very tempted by the cake on top of my fridge....

Started off at 17.5 stone in July.

Am 13st now. Hoping to be 10st10lbs by May

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 18:49

well done, what method did you use?

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 30/12/2021 18:57

I've stayed on the wagon despite my friend popping round. Much as I love her, she'd drive anyone to chocolate. I think she may be my nan reincarnated. There can't possibly be two people who talk that much, barely pausing for breath, with no ability to listen at all.

Blueplan · 30/12/2021 20:55

I've had a break since Christmas Day, will now gradually get back into the swing of it so that when I return to work on Tuesday, I am back on track. I know I will have put some weight back on, but I am not stressing - if this is my life going forward, I have to be able to have some normality every now and again, or I know I'll end up giving up completely.

HerRoyalHappiness · 30/12/2021 21:21

Thats very true. We can't always be super strict. There has to be some leeway.

I had a piece of cake and still came under my calories. I'm stuffed now though!

I'm about 16st, should be about 8 - 9st. (I'm short)

I love sweet stuff - cake, biscuits, puddings, sweets, the lot. I'm uncomfortable and it's affecting my health.

I had a stroke (due to Covid, no other reason) in July, so can't go to Zumba like I used to do. I started Aqua Aerobics a few weeks ago, but having to show my disgusting body in a swimsuit is mortifying.

TheCreamCaker · 30/12/2021 21:29

SpookyScarySkeletons That's amazing! Well done! How did you do it?

HerRoyalHappiness · 30/12/2021 21:48

thecreamcaker im sure your body isn't as disgusting as you think!

I've planned all my meals for tomorrow. Kids are having roast gammon with all the trimmings. (We always end the year on a roast dinner) I'm sticking to hunters chicken and spicy rice because I know I can't trust myself with a roast, I'll eat way too much.

SpookyScarySkeletons That's amazing! Well done! How did you do it?
It's taken me 3 years and I still have about 2 stone to go.

I joined ww online and kept within my points. I tried to break down targets into half a stone per month rather than thinking about the big numbers it makes it much less scary!

Some months I lost a bit more, some months less, some months nothing at all!! You just need to remember you are in this for the long haul.

My biggest piece of advice though is please ensure you are taking a good all round multivitamin.

Unrelated but I contracted a virus last Christmas and it attacked my nerves and I haven't really been able to walk since. I now have a wheelchair and a frame. My neurologist said it was compounded by the fact my eating had been quite restrictive so my lack of vitamins had made the viral infection worse.

So lots of fruit and veg, lean protein and a good multivitamin!!

marchofthesinisterducks · 30/12/2021 23:25

May I join?

I am 34 and weighed in this morning at 18st 5.2lb. Found some motivation last year after a couple of years of weighing over 19st and did manage to loose just over a stone but seem to be on the path of putting it all back on again.

I won't be attempting a "diet" per se, more trying to change my relationship with food and learning how to make the right choices.

My main issue is the evenings. I have a very active job (done over 14,000 steps today and that's not even a really busy day) but I don't finish until 10pm and by the time I get home, I'm knackered and ravenous so end up pigging out on junk that is easily grabbed.

However, tonight I did have a slice of avocado on toast which I feel is a step in the right direction!

weegiemum · 31/12/2021 07:54

Been quite good yesterday but have woken up hungry - ate a bag of sugar snap peas and 3 satsumas!

weegiemum · 31/12/2021 07:58

@SpookyScarySkeletons what was your virus that attacked your nerves? I had an ear infection 10 years ago that went to my nerves and I now have a condition called CIDP which restricts my mobility a lot and is partly why I've gained so much weight. I use a wheelchair out of the house but am mobile at home, though I started with a frame.

I don't know many people with the condition so I tend to notice when people mention something like that!

SpookyScarySkeletons · 31/12/2021 08:14

@weegiemum they don't actually know. I wasn't sent for blood tests etc until a good few months after it started. The neurologist said there were markers that indicated viral infection.

Although I discovered yesterday that they are sending me for another full set of bloods next month to rule out any auto immune disorders so who know!!

I just keep working hard on the recovery as best I can!

This lady is an absolute inspiration. I quit sugar in March have lost 3.5 stone with about the same to go but swimming and cold water swimming has been a godsend.
