Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

I was wondering when people
would start reappearing Post Easter Pigouts 😂

I too have overeaten like mad wineymummy You're definitely not alone!

I'm going to wait until the kids go back to school next week to resume a more healthier approach to eating! And when there'll be less chocolate in the house.

I weighed myself a few days ago and had gone right back up to my start weight.
It's not surprising! But I will get there eventually 👊🏻

wineymummy · 12/04/2021 19:03

Hahaha we are clearly all hiding away in shame. Time for a P.E.P. talk!

snowbiz28 · 13/04/2021 07:19

Life in the thread yet, I was on the verge of defecting ( with reluctance).

I was reasonably self controlled over the Easter weekend, and then for no good reason completely lost it over the weekend just gone. Disappointing but am not dwelling on it and so back on it yesterday and hoping to limit the damage done. The scales will tell on Friday.

Good to be back in your company.

CaptainCallisto · 13/04/2021 11:42

I gained less than I'd expected to after the big Easter blowout, but I think I've messed up my system more than the scales show. I've been so hungry the last couple of days (since I've been back on the wagon) and I just wasn't before. It's making it much harder to keep going!

Agree Captain, as soon as I slip back into old habits I find myself hungry all the time. So frustrating.
wineymummy · 13/04/2021 15:35

Well done for your restraint though!

CaptainCallisto · 13/04/2021 16:03

Restraint was very necessary today! One of my colleagues has a baking business and she uses us as guinea pigs to test recipes. There was a huge stack of peanut butter brownies in the staff room. It made my soup feel very inadequate!

BaconAndAvocado · 13/04/2021 16:33

I’ve had a very terrible food day today......

As well as a bowl of healthy cereal, I’ve eaten a huge bath bun, 2 home made rock cakes and a Viennese whirl.
No nutritional value whatsoever and just really craving the sweet stuff right now.

bonfireheart · 13/04/2021 18:00

Have eaten a really weird assortment of food today
B: two weetabix
Lunch: chickpeas, potatoes and spring onion mixed today with a dollop of Yoghurt and Indian spices
D: Smoked salmon and couscous.
Snacks: a handful of nuts and raisins. A packet chicken noodle soup from sainsburys at 39 calories.
Think I need to go to the supermarket and get some proper food! Was tempted to have a slimfast chocolate shake to give me my chocolate fix but it's so many calories!!

turnaroundtouchtheground · 14/04/2021 05:40

So glad to have found this thread!! I'm trying to lose 18lb, 1lb a week.
Stats:
5ft2
Starting weight 10st 4lb
Current weight 10st 1.5lb

I have tried all the diets (almost), lost and gained a stone several times in the last 10 years and now in perimenopause it's getting harder and harder. I was drinking too much wine, comfort eating, secretly eating, and hating myself.

I have had the realisation that anything faster than 1lb a week won't be sustainable for me.

I'm using calorie counting as I like the freedom to choose what I want, even though I like healthy food anyway. My diet is probably closest to "Mediterranean ".

This is week 2 and the biggest change I'm proud to say is that I have gone from drinking more than half a bottle of wine a night to nothing during the week and 15 units over the weekend. I'm so proud of that, it hasn't been too hard and I can't imagine going back to feeling sluggish and guilty every day now!

I'm checking in for support because the fluctuations and small losses can be demotivating! I'm small so can only have 1300 cals per day to lose 1lb, although I go up to 1500 at weekends and try to up my exercise on those days, and never eat the extra cals burned by exercise.

snowbiz28 · 14/04/2021 22:14

Welcome turnaround and well done on your loss so far. Sounds like you've got your head in the zone.

Sure you'll find the folks on here friendly and supportive but I think it definitely helps to have people to check in with. It'll be good to follow your progress.

turnaroundtouchtheground · 15/04/2021 15:58

Thanks @snowbiz28 !
Good days and worse days but I'm not giving up and not beating myself up for the odd indulgence either.

applesandpears33 · 15/04/2021 17:34

I'm not doing well. I lost 7 pounds in 11 weeks. It isn't great progress, but to be honest I've not been changing my diet enough. I need to develop more good, sustainable habits.

turnaroundtouchtheground · 15/04/2021 18:11

@applesandpears33 half a stone is a great achievement and that's over half a pound a week!

It's a mental challenge though isn't it. I've done the fast 800 a couple of times and I loved the big losses so losing slowly is different, but I'm really hoping I can keep it going for a few months.

I like my new habits but I am missing the old ones, especially the wine in front of the telly every evening...until the morning when I feel great about not drinking!!

snowbiz28 · 16/04/2021 08:03

applesandpears 7lbs is a great loss, the time scale is irrelevant, be pleased for yourself. Look at what you have actually achieved, try not to think about you might have done.

Any fellow Friday weighers ready to share? I made a big effort Monday onwards this week after a disastrous weekend and very relieved to see it has made a difference. Have lost the 0.8lb gain of Easter week and another 0.6 lb. The first thing I'd like to do is treat myself but it's early (not that it's ever stopped me before) and I am close to a nice round number on the scales so am trying to think of that as my reward and when I reach it I definitely will.

Have a good day everyone, hope you're all making progress.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 17/04/2021 08:19

Hi everyone!
Sorry for the radio silence from me, not sure where the time goes!?!
Welcome to new members & hello to the old... er... established!! ;)
I've been up & down in many ways, eating being one of them. I'll go from a having a few really good days of healthiness to a few not so good days of eating rubbish! And yes to the Easter chocolate!!!
Overall I'm still weighing in around 9 stone 6 lbs.
Yet it was strange this morning as I thought I'd weigh myself out of curiosity after a healthy ish week - first the scales said 9 stone 5 then I moved them slightly to another position and it said 9 stone 6!!
I some times do weigh myself 2 or 3 times to check for accuracy - wish I'd just done it the once today!!!

BaconAndAvocado · 18/04/2021 09:31

After another unsuccessful week I've decided I need to up the ante so I'm going to try the 5:2 from tomorrow 😬

The non fast days should be fine but the fast days of 500 will be a challenge.

I signed onto the Nutracheck app to help with calorie counting. I'd forgotten that I'd already used the app in 2012.
Back then I was trying to lose weight and I was a stone lighter!!!

I really need to kick this cycle...

bonfireheart · 18/04/2021 09:47

I'm doing IF with a bit of Fast800 thrown in - there's so much food in the house that needs eating before I can properly plan a week's food and shopping. I don't weigh myself regularly but here is where I am so far:
29 March - 10 stones 4lbs
17 April - 9 stones 13lbs
Am very much of the mindset that any loss is good. In previous diets I have been upset at not loosing as much as I wanted as quickly as I wanted and then given up. Hence why I'm not weighing myself as much. If I feel good and clothes fit better then that's a good sign. So far don't feel like I've started myself and have worked up from 14 hour fasts to a 17 hour fast today - slow and steady!

BaconAndAvocado · 18/04/2021 11:31

bonfireheart not sure what your target weight is but you started at a similar weight to me.

I'm currently 10st5lb and would like to lose about 10lb. I'm 5'5".

1lbperweek · 18/04/2021 11:32

Wow not been in this thread in months Blush

Weight less obviously not going well.

How are you all getting on?

OP posts:
bonfireheart · 18/04/2021 13:22

@BaconAndAvocado I want to at least get my BMI from overweight to normal so 60kg. In an ideal world I want it at 55kg but am trying to me realistic! I'm 41 years and find it harder to lose weight the older I get. There's only so many calories I can cut out before it becomes ridiculous, I'll take eating healthy and exercising over weight loss.

BaconAndAvocado · 18/04/2021 16:40

bonfireheart I'm 51 and losing weight has definitely got harder.

turnaroundtouchtheground · 19/04/2021 06:23

I totally get the ups and downs...this weekend has been a big down for me!! I was flying along and then crashed! Wine is the main culprit.
Looking forward to a fresh clean week. Not giving up....I think the beauty of a 1lb a week aim is that you can overshoot your target during the week, be less rigid at the weekend and still lose that 1lb overall (I hope!) Or close to it, anyway.

I wish I could fast, but don't seem to have it in me anymore. I got covid a few months ago and I still get huge energy dips that feel awful. Fasting is a great way to balance out the bad eating and drinking days

CaptainCallisto · 19/04/2021 06:56

Morning Monday weighers! 3lb gain for me this week. It's been a bad couple of weeks food wise so I'm not surprised. I just can't seem to get myself back in the right mindset.

NoThanksMountainMan · 19/04/2021 08:21

Can I join in please? I'm 5'4 and 12st 3, target weight 10st. At 1lb a week I'd reach target weight in December - I'd be so happy with that!
As usual with baby weight I'm able to lose the first stone or so but get stuck and struggle to shift the last two stone.
I'm going to ditch the snacks and I'm about to take up buggy running - hopefully pushing a buggy and baby will help with the weight loss.
