Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

Great to hear from everyone. Has helped enormously with mindset. I'm very happy with slow and steady, its just slow and stop I was getting concerned about. Have a good day.

BaconAndAvocado · 20/03/2021 11:19

Welcome craftymadam

For me, weigh in day is best on Friday morning (naked and after a trip to the loo!)
I find (or found) it easier to eat more healthily in the week then have some treats at the weekend but last week the treats were throughout the whole week....

It doesn't help being home alone most of the time.
DH has just come back from a 10K run, I need to find some of his motivation from somewhere.

Good luck to everybody for the coming week 🙂

Just for the record I'm 5'5" and weigh 10st 4lb which is my heaviest ever apart from during pregnancy.
My best, maintainable weight is around 9st 8lb so I've got 10lb to lose.

wineymummy · 21/03/2021 07:15

Captain I've found being back at work after maternity leave a mixed bag. I can go longer between eating if I'm busy but also spent all day at my desk and don't move enough. Your day sounds tough, I would definitely be struggling not to overeat on that schedule.
I need some new meal ideas. I just got bored of eating the same food and DH was bored of trying to accommodate it when he was cooking. Doesn't help having a fussy child and weaning baby, and we end up with 4 different meals on the table some days.

snowbiz28 · 21/03/2021 11:17

@wineymummy, the family meal can be a real pain but since I'm only prepared to make one meal then what I have done is to have a smaller portion than I would previously and then go big on the veg/salad which I really like. I think the compromise I make is that if the meal is family friendly (which usually means carb based) then the sides are my personal faves, that way I feel less deprived. Just looking for little saves where I can so important I keep my weight loss expectations realistic.
Keep going, you will get there.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 21/03/2021 22:27

Good idea about weigh day being a Friday, I might start doing that! Not sure why I've always done it on a Monday- after treat filled weekends!?!
A Friday morning might be better for morale!
And yes to weighing first thing, naked, after the morning wee, before even a sip of water!

craftymadam · 21/03/2021 22:38

I like the idea of weighing on a Friday too! I'll weigh in tomorrow to see how I've done this week. I've walked between 10k & 17k steps everyday and have been roughly following a slimming world diet, so fingers crossed for a decent loss!!

craftymadam · 22/03/2021 07:05

First week results- 3lbs loss!
15/3 - 12st 2lbs
22/3 - 11st 13lbs
Smile

SquirtleSquad · 22/03/2021 07:15

Another 1lb gain this week. I've completely fallen off the wagon and really need to change my ways again. It's so hard to lose but so easy to gain!
My op is one week today and I have to be below 14stone or it won't go ahead.

Balls.

04/01/2021 - 15st 8lbs
11/01/2021 - 15st 1.5lbs (-6.5lbs)
18/01/2021 - 14st 13lbs (-2.5lbs)
25/01/2021 - 14st 10.5lbs (-2.5lbs)
01/02/2021 - 14st 9lbs (-1.5lbs)
08/02/2021 - 14st 5lbs (-4lbs)
15/02/2021 - 14st 5.5lbs (+0.5lbs)
22/02/2021 - 14st 1lb (-4.5lbs)
01/03/2021 - 14st 0lbs (-1lb)
08/03/2021 - 13st 12lbs (-2lbs)
15/03/2021 - 13st 13lbs (+1lbs)
22/03/2021 - 14st 0lbs (+1lbs)

Total loss to date: 22lbs

ButterflyOfFreedom · 22/03/2021 07:32

Well done craftymadam, amazing!
All that walking must have helped!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 22/03/2021 07:34

SquirtleSquad don't lose faith. You've come so far already. It's only one pound - you've lost it before, you can do it again! Be kind to yourself.

That's really true thank you! It's just so easy to slip up Grin the Ben and jerries was calling this week.
ButterflyOfFreedom · 22/03/2021 07:36

I'm beginning to think 9 stone 6 pounds is my naturally ideal weight as it's not changing!!!!
Weighed myself this morning but will do it again on Friday...

CaptainCallisto · 22/03/2021 11:24

I've maintained this week, though I've no idea how as I've eaten absolute crap all week (including half a tub of pringles in one sitting, six Yorkshire puds with my roast yesterday, and DH's birthday takeaway earlier in the week). I'm hoping it doesn't show next week when I've tried to get back on it!

wineymummy · 22/03/2021 14:33

You've done so well Squirtle, don't give up now. What about a few days of fasting (16:8?) Would that help? I don't usually fast but on the odd day that I haven't eaten a lot I really notice the weight loss. If it wasn't for the fact my DH would nag me for being ridiculous I think I would probably do the 16:8 diet. (Also we eat after 8pm most nights so not the best.)
Good to see some more activity here. Let's do this! Not long til we get out of bloody lockdown and can get back to seeing people. I want to look my best!

Well done craftymadam that's great! I'm back on the horse today. Trying to keep my daily snacks down to 2 rich teas, one very small Milky Way and a low fat yoghurt. I just can't keep Dane without a couple of snacks a day. We'll see what the scales think on Friday..... Keep going everyone 🙂
BaconAndAvocado · 22/03/2021 16:40

sane not Dane!!

craftymadam · 22/03/2021 18:56

Thanks everyone!
You can do it @SquirtleSquad! You've done so well so far!
This thread is really helping my focus by the way Smile

SquirtleSquad · 22/03/2021 20:26

Thanks for the support guys! This thread has been a god send!!!!!!
I'm back to tracking my calories, and will give the 16:8 fast a go. I did a 36 hour fast the first week I started on my diet and it nearly killed me (massive exaggeration) but it really really helped kick start all of this.

Jellifer · 22/03/2021 20:43

Hello friends!

I put 1lb on last week but then lost 2.5lb this week so am still happy overall. Thanks to all of you for your updates and motivation, I really enjoy hearing about how you are all doing!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 22/03/2021 20:51

Squirtle, you can definitely do this - you've been doing well for months.

Is the nearness of the op making you think about your weight goal all the time and therefore making you focus on what you could / would like to eat?

Keep busy, keep active, keep to your regime, but make sure you eat your favourite healthy options, and enjoy your success do far, be pleased with yourself, proud of yourself, and keep embracing the new healthier you!...you can do it, so just do it and don't stress.

SquirtleSquad · 22/03/2021 21:24

@RainingBatsAndFrogs I think because I hit my first goal weight which I needed to hit for my op I've just got complacent and lazy with it so I'm setting a new goal weight now which is 12stone8lbs (which will be 3 stone from my start weight) and it doesn't seem an impossible task. Once I hit it I'll set a new one. I think if the goal is too big it can be demotivating too, that's why this group with a 1lb a week goal seems so helpful, it's so achievable!

I think having a set goal in mind really really helps!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 22/03/2021 22:04

Squirtle I agree.

My goals have been very modest: to get below the next while number of Kgs. When I started this last May it would have felt way too daunting to set my current weight as a target.

It must have been such a relief for you when you hit your goal before your consultant appointment... easy to get a bit de-mob happy.

New goal sounds very good!

Well done everyone! Even the weeks when a little upward spike occurs in the overall trend, it’s important to see it for what it is, a mini upward spike in a downward trend, and not give up. So well done all who have their eyes focussed forwards. (Me!)

snowbiz28 · 23/03/2021 07:11

So sort of halfway through the week for the Friday weighers. Not long to keep the good work going til weigh day but equally if it feels like hard graft then enough time left to do something to impact the numbers.

Its really helping just to check in and find a little bit of inspiration rather than dip my hand in the biscuit tin. I feel like I'm in such good company.

Keep going and here's to a good day. Smile

Juno231 · 23/03/2021 14:31

@craftymadam super well done!

SW: 75.6kg on 15/03/21
CW: 74.6kg on 22/03/21

So exactly 1kg loss the first week! I won't get too excited though as I can see it being water weight but at least it moved in the right direction so I'm pleased :) I did nearly 40k steps over Sat/Sun which certainly helped but have definitely tried to snack less.

I would be thrilled to reach 74kg after this week - but I've been sedentary all of yesterday and today so not sure how likely that is!

wineymummy · 23/03/2021 17:49

Well done everyone!
Did a mid-week check in on the scales today and was down to 76.85 so hopefully on track for my half-kg a week loss (about 1lb!)... motivation is feeling better now, when I can see/feel a loss I'm way more motivated to carry on, it's when I stagnate that I lose all hope.
I've come to the conclusion that I need to eat a semi-normal evening meal, so now I'm skipping breakfast (or maybe having a small portion of yoghurt and peanut butter) trying to eat a carb-free lunch, then eating a fairly healthy, lowish carb dinner. Seems to be working. Drinking a hell of a lot of coffee and Coke Zero to get me through though! Holding out for getting to my healthy BMI - currently 26.5 so not far off 25. Definitely haven't been this slim since having my first baby so it feels good. I think I've managed to change my mindset too. I don't actually want to eat sugar all day anymore, I enjoy a treat when I can but it feels OK to skip the cereal and toast. As long as I can have my glass of wine a couple of times a week!
