Slender in September

Hi, here's the new thread. Always love the new start that September brings with back to school and all the jazz. I'm unfortunately starting the month heavier, 9st2.5, bit cross with myself to be honest, know I have been comfort eating, its got to stop. Aim for this month is as ever yawn, 8st13.

Just got in from work. I’ve done 10,000 steps, 35 flights of stairs and already burned my calorie target for the whole day.

Preparing to teach in zones = Lugging boxes of books from one end of site to the other with three floors of stairs and is apparently good for your targets 🥵

I so don’t feel like going swimming at 8 but I’m going to force myself. Tomorrow is lesson planning at home so will be pretty inactive. I fasted again today-find it easy to do at work but think I better eat something before swimming.

Well done for all the new lows Wine

SistemaAddict · 02/09/2020 16:22

School run=18,845 steps for both trips there and back!

dalecooper · 02/09/2020 16:55

over 18,000 steps is incredible! I only did 5,000 steps for the there and back school run but I only have a short walk down the hill. On the way back there is a bit of a hike though.

Only had coffee and almond milk and then scrambled egg for lunch. Actually been too anxious too eat hoping first day back was ok etc.
Going to have steak and broccoli in about an hour.

Heygirlheyboy · 02/09/2020 17:13

Well done all sounds like a great day. Enjoy swimming! My brakfsst and lunch came to just over 500 cals so I've loads left for dinner Smile

SistemaAddict · 02/09/2020 18:17

It's so obvious now how I gained lockdown weight with the sudden stop in the school run. MFP prediction is 8st 8lb in 5 weeks if every day is like today!! Weekends wouldn't be though.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/09/2020 18:32

Hi dale. Yeah anxiety has been a good appetite suppressant for me the last couple of days. Think my colleagues think I’m a strange combo of fat and anorexic. Teachers generally love cake and inhale food when they get a moment to eat it so me not tucking into the inset catering has been seen as really odd.

Not nervous for ds because he’s going into year 9. Appreciate it’s different with little ones.

I made tortilla whilst trying to teach ds how to make it and I still wasn’t hungry and he’s wolfed the whole thing.

I think busy-ness and mental stress has just killed hunger. Hoping the scales take note

TheHoneyBadger · 02/09/2020 18:35

Absolutely. I was off sick after major surgery and the weight just piled on. I think we’re all awesome to have tried and succeeded losing weight during lockdown and I’m really hoping it will pay off now we have better eating habits plus daily routine activity back 🙏
dalecooper · 02/09/2020 18:39

Yes as soon as I am anxious I get an upset stomach and my appetite is non-existent. However school turned out to be absolutely fine and no issues or problems, so the anxiety has now melted away and the appetite will probably be back tomorrow!

Busy and stressed is an ideal combo if you want to lose weight but not great for your health long term obvs.

It is meant to rain tomorrow so that will mean a very soggy school run. Tempted to take the car.

SistemaAddict · 02/09/2020 22:34

Final count for today:

Steps 20,034
Active minutes 136
Calories burnt 2348
Calories consumed 1078
Miles 8.21
Floors 74

I'm feeling pretty damn pleased with that! I am quite hungry tonight after all that exercise but have resisted eating after 6pm. I'll just eat a little more tomorrow as I'm under calories today. Amazing really seeing as dd1 and I shared a pizza for lunch. It was so good. We had a lovely day eating pizza and watching a funny film. It's not often I get one on one time with her so it was special.

Welcome to the new posters and well done to all the achievers Smile

I agree that we should be impressed with ourselves that we have managed to lose weight in lockdown. Especially if we gained it to start with. Dd2 had a photo taken with her friends today as was the first day of high school and half of them have gained a lot of weight. Most people are the same though and now they are walking to school and doing PE they will soon be back to their normal selves. Although judging by the canteen food choices maybe not. I thought schools had to have healthy menus? Chips, curly fries, bacon sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, pizza, cookies, slushes. It's not exactly encouraging healthier choices. Dd2 is still all ribs and hip bones despite eating like a horse. It's so unfair! Both dds eat twice what I do easily. And ds at 5 probably eats more than me too. They are all very slim. I was the same though then the pill at 15 changed things 😔

TheHoneyBadger · 02/09/2020 23:06

Amazing stats B. I’ve apparently burnt nearly 3000 calories already. 12,000 steps plus a km+ swim. Huge for me as my usual burn target is 2100.

So I do have a plan for September and that’s fast Monday, Wednesday, Friday at work till at least 4 and get 10,000 steps in on those days and go swimming twice a week hopefully. I think my extended fasts may be a half term thing now but hopefully more active fasted days will be enough as I’ll run through glycol and switch to fat burning quicker.

In the world of massive optimism I’d reach 13st7 this month but realistically a secure 13st10 would be good enough.

It’s a weird one to gauge because in lesson I’ll be a lot less active because I’m not allowed to run round the room helping and pushing individuals but I will be running across the school between lessons to get to zones. We shall see.

Heygirlheyboy · 02/09/2020 23:23

Wow to you both! Well done! I'm going to keep up the water target of 2.5L per day, incredible the difference it makes. Promised myself another early night...!

hangoverstruggles · 02/09/2020 23:29

Wow that's a huge deficit @Bercows! I'd be starving on so few cals. I used to stick to 1200 and after a good few weeks at higher tried to stick to 1200 this week (trying to allow for cake planned at weekend!) and I just seem to have lost the ability!

Completely exceeded today and then thought 'fuck it' and had another snack.

Came in at 1800.

B coffee (2 big ones)
L 3 eggs, scrambled, 1 slice of toast, protein yogurt
D turkey chilli, 2 slices of dominos pizza
S rice cake & peanut butter, handful haribo, some popcorn, low cal ice cream 😩

My meals we good but lost control on the snacking! I still feel hungry - feel like I could have eaten continuously this afternoon / evening.

Aiming for 1200 thurs & fri to balance out ahead of a higher weekend. Must be disciplined!!

Well done @IDontMindMarmite for maintaining goal weight!

Heygirlheyboy · 02/09/2020 23:44

Isn't it funny hangover how we have those hungry days. I was the opposite here today but isn't it funny also that it doesn't necessarily show on scales! Talk tomorrow!

IDontMindMarmite · 03/09/2020 07:00

@hangoverstruggles thanks, I seriously know what you mean about struggling to reduce the calorie budget after a period of having more.

SistemaAddict · 03/09/2020 07:01

Hungry days have me worried that I'll never be able to stop eating.

61.65kg still this morning. That's 9st 9st I believe. Next stop 9st 7lb.

Hangoverstruggles · 03/09/2020 07:01

@Heygirlheyboy I've just looked back at the menstrual cycle Ted talk and I am in my luteal phase which could be a factor for extra hunger? Or it could be that I'm stressed about youngest starting school today and craved food 😁 who knows!

Hoping I have a less hungry day today.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 03/09/2020 07:07

Morning. Sorry, been AWOL for a few days. DD starts school today. My baby all grown up!

B eggs and bacon
L salad
D harisa chicken and bulgar wheat salad.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/09/2020 07:24

Morning.

13st12.8. New low for me.

SistemaAddict · 03/09/2020 07:25

I had toast this morning. More calories but needed for the school run I think as don't want to be fainting. I earned a new badge on my Fitbit for my 20,000 steps yesterday which is motivating for today. Dd wants to go on a bike ride but she's broken the catch on my helmet and I'm quite risk adverse so maybe not. Plus I'm knackered.i need to go up to my mum's so we will perhaps walk the longest way possible and go along the canal. Maybe do some blackberrying.

Octopus37 · 03/09/2020 07:46

Welcome to the newbies. Hope things settle down for those of you who are teachers (HoneyBadger), sounds mega stressful, my Sister is a teacher. 9st1.5 this morning, had a couple of better days, but still eating a lot of sweet stuff and carbs, quite stressed. For me, I only lose my appetite when it is really extreme. Think the carb thing is to do with seretonin effect. My two are back at school tomorrow so school run busyness, although he wants to go to school himself soon so will be working towards that.

Thanks octopus. It was the most manual labour I’ve done in a long time.

B I keep meaning to go pick some elderberries and blackberries before it’s late. I want to use them in gin and brandy. My dad makes lovely blackberry brandy and I want to do elderberry gin.

Managed to have an awake, showered, showered, uniformed, equipped 13 yo ready to go for his first day back at school! It’s quite exciting. He’s going into year 9 and is definitely not a little boy anymore. Love him luckily lol

TheHoneyBadger · 03/09/2020 08:06

I know it sounds like a naff alternative octopus but some fruit with natural yoghurt and a generous tea spoon of honey has been working for me. I sometimes add chia and pumpkin seeds.

I think my late night carb cravings are about the serotonin effect

dalecooper · 03/09/2020 09:11

Well I continued to have an upset stomach until this morning, was beginning to think I had eaten something off but have only had what DD has had and she is fine.

Could not even stomach coffee this morning - just weak tea.
Am not going to eat until supper as think I need to give my stomach a rest.
Feel a bit of a failure as took the car this morning as it is pouring down. Saw other people walking to school - I am obviously not as hardy as them.

Lots of work today so going to get my head down and not think about food until it is time to prepare supper.

SistemaAddict · 03/09/2020 13:49

People have reported upset stomach as a Covid symptom...

I would love some chocolate. Pasta for dinner Tonight.

dalecooper · 03/09/2020 14:21

Thanks Bercows..... as they have just gone back to school, there had bloody better not be Covid circulating there. Not been anywhere else. I work from home so don't see many other people at the moment. More likely to be gas!

Feeling hungry now so looking forward to some pasta too. Going to do it with bacon and egg and make a carbonara. Delicious.
