Hi, here's the new thread. Always love the new start that September brings with back to school and all the jazz. I'm unfortunately starting the month heavier, 9st2.5, bit cross with myself to be honest, know I have been comfort eating, its got to stop. Aim for this month is as ever yawn, 8st13.

@Bercows, this is by no means scientifically validated! But the admin on Lose Weight Eat Pizza fb group posted this:

"Sedentary: get out of bed and do some stuff
Light exercise: 5,000 steps
Moderate Exercise: 12,000 Steps
Heavy Exercise Category: 19,000

These numbers were calculated by subtracting sedentary from each activity level, dividing that number of calories burned per mile and then multiplying it by the number of steps I take per mile since generally the amount of calorie you will burn per mile will be in the same “ballpark” although if you run more you’ll burn a bit more."

The admin of that group is a guy, don't know how tall or weight, but if you want more accuracy I guess you could try replicating his maths for your own numbers.

Thank you. I usually put moderate down as I only walk but then I'm walking a lot. With my warped mind though I'll stick to moderate I think Grinthat gives me just over 2000 for maintenance. Seems a lot.

Someone else on the group has added this:

"To put this in the perspective of a 5’2 female (current weight 129)
Sedentary: bumble around the house
Light: 5000 steps
Moderate: 13,000 steps
Heavy: 22,000 steps
At my height and weight I burn approx 70 calories per mile walked at a 2.5mph pace."

I really feel that the TDEE calculators could do with clarifying the parameters of sedentary etc.

You see Monochrome the way I work the difference during my cycle is I actually up the activity and work hard on reducing cals in that week before to gain from the extra burn of the week before. Does that make sense? I don't find myself particularly extra hungry so I have made it work over last few months. Anyway I was fine eating up to my now much higher allowance anyway! It would make a difference if I added cals tho as next week they won't be burned quite as quickly. Logging for the day now.
B: porridge with apple and cinnamon
L: 2x mushroom soup, slice of soda bread and butter, banana
D: nutty veggie stir fry rice. Yum. I'm under I'd say but full on those meals. Enjoy your evening all!

Morning all, I've finally (after 6 months) made it through to the other side, 8st13.75. Think it could be a fluke, but as everything all is so hard at the moment, feel as though someone somewhere could be on my side lol. Have a good day all. .

Yay for 8stone territory Octopus!

I'm 13st12.5lbs today. Yes I'm hoping I have finally cracked the 14st boundary and won't bounce back up over it now. This is the last day of September and it would be good to have at least achieved the goal I set for August!

Yesterday I managed to get groceries, go for a swim, get my planning done for today and cook and eat a healthy dinner which is a win day for me!

Great work Octopus37 and TheHoneyBadger! Pats on the back all round.

64.9kg today. I'm glad to be under 65 for the second day in a row. (That's just over 10 stone). My next milestone will be getting down to 64 which is half way from 68 (where I started) to 60 (which is my goal, about 9 1/2 stone). It is weird how it suddenly drops about a kilo overnight then spends about 3 weeks hovering or even going up before the next drop. Must be period related, but I have to hold my nerve and keep trusting that I'm doing the right thing and the scales will catch up.

My upwards fluctuation disappeared this morning. I have never had such variable weight before, I wonder if it is something I will have to get used to.

Urgh bad day feeling low on energy and snacking. Maybe also period related. Deep breath...

Have a piece of fruit and some nuts or an early dinner?

Report
Monochrome4 · 30/09/2020 17:36

@Heygirlheyboy Too late for that! Grin Actually the snacking has been relatively healthy (fruit, cheese & raisins), but more calories than I'd intended. I usually have dinner at 6 with the kids anyway, so I think I'll just have a modest dinner and accept that I'm going to go over my allowance and it's only one day.

I'm logged at 1440, 300 under but I haven't done my 10k steps that is part of my allowance so I'll leave it. Delighted I am halfway through this busy week and still standing!

Busy day at work. Have hit all targets and looks set to be a good day for calories burned. Just broke my fast with a nice hot bowl of reheated stew. I've just caved and turned the heating on - only one day earlier than I aim for.

Tomorrow is planning for work, catching up on laundry and marinating some chicken (ds has been nagging for us to make fried chicken for ages now) in the morning then gym in the afternoon. Been ages since I've been in a gym. Will probably just do a mix of cardio - rowing, cross trainer and treadmill. Should help to offset the fried chicken!

Tried aldi's low cal salted caramel ice cream yesterday. Not impressed - ate about half and gave the rest to ds. My friend liked it though and has added it to her collection of sweet things she can eat without too much damage. She's given up alcohol and trying to lose weight whilst craving 'nice things' to replace the usual evening wine. So far I've only really enjoyed the Halo cookies and cream. Yet to try the coop low cal version as they never have it when I go in there!

Nothing beats haagen daas salted caramel or pralines and cream but they are Banned!

Well done @Octopus37 delighted for you great way to end the month too.

Well done everyone hitting your goals for September! I forgot to weigh this morning but hoping to be scraping into the 9s to be a maintain for the month. Blow out weekend caused an upswing of 3lb so waiting it out to see it level off.

1400 each day this week, hoping to stick to that until the weekend. Planning a big roast for Sunday with all the greats (cauliflower cheese, roast parsnips..... nom) 😊

Enjoy your time off @IDontMindMarmite

Enjoy IDontMindMarmite! If it makes you feel more optimistic, I had a mini-break last weekend and had big yummy meals and still lost weight! The long walks did the trick.

TheHoneyBadger low fat ice cream is rubbish. Better to just have sorbet or frozen yoghurt. My low calorie sweet things are sugar-free ginger beer or sugar free jelly. Not for everyone though, I know lots of people don't like artificial sweeteners. Other options are grapes with plain yoghurt, or plain yoghurt mixed with lemon juice which you can almost imagine taste like lemon cheesecake if you imagine hard enough.

My feeling-rubbish snacking day has ended up with me 550 calories over budget. Blush I reckon that it's still probably less than I was having before dieting, so with any luck it was just maintenance rather than surplus. I just need to get back on the straight and narrow tomorrow. A decent night's sleep is what I need. Ladies keep me motivated! Thanks.
