Slender in September

Hi, here's the new thread. Always love the new start that September brings with back to school and all the jazz. I'm unfortunately starting the month heavier, 9st2.5, bit cross with myself to be honest, know I have been comfort eating, its got to stop. Aim for this month is as ever yawn, 8st13.

Welcome hotel room. For me the Mosley recipes are lovely, I regularly make his ratatouille and mushroom soup. However the calorie demands are not sensible or sustainable IMHO. I don't think you need to wipe carbs completely for example. You'll find what's best for you. I have lost a stone in 12 weeks for example so I wouldn't get a gold star from him but I'm thrilled with that rate of loss, in fact it flew by for me. I know you're eager to lose it and again we're all different and you may well shed much quicker!

Jordan Syatt is worth a follow.

I am 8st 10.25 this morning, yay! I am going to eat all my lovely calories today and have a long walk this evening with my Monday friend, should go well over the 11k aim which will make 3 days I manage that handily enough. Hope you feel today easier octopus. Have a good day all!

Lalanbaba · 21/09/2020 11:40

Morning everyone,
65 kg this morning. Yay! Like I said I will move my goal to 62-63 kg that was my usual weight pre baby and lock down.
Welcome @HotelRoomforOne, not a fan of Moseley (being polite there). I don't cut food groups, just eat smaller portions of the same food my family ears and focusing that half my plate is vegetables. This way I have been loosing a pound a week at least since 3 of August.
I prefer this steady approach rather than crash diet.

Lalanbaba · 21/09/2020 11:47

*eat Grin

HotelRoomforOne · 21/09/2020 12:34

Great to hear your views @Lalanbaba and @Heygirlheyboy I've noticed Mosely is quite a divisive figure. It is quite bizarre hearing an expert subscribe a crash diet. I suppose I will give it a try for the first 21 days and then gradually reintroduce the carbs in smaller quantities.

@Lalanbaba your approach sounds very sustainable, my idea of a 'portion' is so completely out of whack I feel I need to break my whole way of eating down and reset it.

Have just realised I have gained a stone for each of my children. I know I was naive but I never actually believed this would happen to me, like I was somehow going to be immune from post pregnancy weight and late 30s slow grinding metabolism.

@Lalanbaba an 11km walk sounds like heaven. Urban or rural?

I'm late to September but tomorrow I start in all ernest. I want to feel like myself again by NYE, I need to.

HotelRoomforOne · 21/09/2020 12:36

Sorry I mean @Heygirlheyboy YOUR walk! Still getting the hang of this thing..

Heygirlheyboy · 21/09/2020 12:49

No it's a 10k stepwalk!!

Heygirlheyboy · 21/09/2020 14:55

I've just had my first 'Don't lose anymore weight' comment Grin Finally 'hearing it'!

TheHoneyBadger · 21/09/2020 18:45

Ha. If you think it’s slow grinding in your 30’s wait till your 40’s. Sorry.

Feeling ill. I have lots of the symptoms of covid but not the main three but I’ve been taking paracetamol for the headaches and painful throat so that would mask a temperature. Today I felt really sick and my vision was weirdly effected and I’ve had one bout of dry coughing but not an hours worth. Watching and waiting to see if I need a test. Tomorrow is my day off.

Have been laid on my bed since getting in and hearing ds is hungry but not feeling up to cooking so have ordered takeaway and have also had to cancel swimming tonight.

September is not going great for my weight loss.

Hope everyone is ok.

Hangoverstruggles · 21/09/2020 20:48

Hi all,

Sorry @TheHoneyBadger you're feeling rotten - sounds horrid. I had a general body aches and painful throat this week and it's wiped me out. Also cancelled exercise plans. Being ill sucks!

After an eating weekend I've been better today. Made cookies with the kids after school which was a mistake (delicious though!)

B overnight oats with raspberries and pumpkin seeds, coffees
L giant couscous served as a cold salad with chicken, sweet potato and edamame beans, protein yogurt
D chicken & peanut butter sandwich made with a sandwich thin (this was a maverick idea but I liked it! Spiced up the chicken with chilli flakes so it had kind of a chicken satay vibe)
S Cookies... at least 3 ffs

Haven't weighed today. Think I might try to stick to 1400 cals until Friday and see where I am. 3 work out classes booked in.

Heygirlheyboy · 21/09/2020 21:56

Love your menu Hangoverstruggles! Hope you feel better Honeybadger, sounds like a rotten dose.

I have logged for the day, 1484
B: Deluxe ONO
L: Brown rice and roast veg, apple, skinny latte
D: roast chicken with roast potatoes and carrots and gravy. Yum
13k steps in the bag.

May as well log tomorrow also
B: ONO
L: roast veg with halloumi and pumpkin seeds, kiwi
D: lamb tagine with broccoli, feta, tomato salad

SistemaAddict · 21/09/2020 22:30

Hi everyone, just catching up. Sorry to hear people are poorly and hope you get better soon. I've nearly finished the antibiotics and have about 3 days left of the steroids. My chest is still tight, still coughing, still headachey but feeling less ill and exhausted so that's good. Dd1 now has a fever and had a sore throat last night so she's getting tested tomorrow.
I have had the day from hell with my exH today and have managed to eat a grand total of toast for breakfast, and a Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewell and an apple for dinner. I missed lunch. I feel like shit because of it but I just can't seem to eat thanks to the stress and the old thoughts circling my head that maybe my ex is right about me and I don't deserve to eat. Not helped by the pre-period/antibiotic bloat so feeling fat. I've no idea what I weigh. Hopefully sleep will help me back on track tomorrow.

Heygirlheyboy · 22/09/2020 06:56

Oh gosh bercows, that is absolutely awful for you. Have you had some support/therapy for dealing with that? I hope you slept well.

Heygirlheyboy · 22/09/2020 07:02

8st9.75 here.

Octopus37 · 22/09/2020 07:58

Bercows, that sounds terrible for you, sorry you have had to go through that. Please get as much rest as you can and nurture yourself. HoneyBadger sorry to hear you're poorly, not nice. Heygirl, I'm in absolute awe of your weight, that's amazing Back up to 9st1.25 this morning but period starting.

IDontMindMarmite · 22/09/2020 08:34

Hello. I'm a bit disappointed to be 2lbs up after a big weekend which was budgeted for. I have started my period so hopefully it's that but I don't think that's a pattern i've really noticed in the past. Anyways.

B: Overnight oats
L: ham and pearl barley soup
D: Greek Pastitsio
S: Brownie

SistemaAddict · 22/09/2020 08:38

I fell asleep around 3am so feel shattered today. 9st 7lb though! For the past 2 weeks at least I've not stuck to any plan and haven't been able to exercise and have still lost a tiny amount so I'm happy with that. Silver linings eh?

Heygirlheyboy · 22/09/2020 08:46

It won't stay Idontmindmarmite, you'll see! Hope you feel a but better Bercows.

Thanks Octopus, I'm thrilled and I am really enjoying and looking forward to my meals. I have upped my cals again now to tie in with 10k steps a day and a half pound loss per week. My final target I suppose is 8st6-8. Next target is 8st9. I now have around 1700 cals allowance per day which I intend to use. Grin

Heygirlheyboy · 22/09/2020 18:53

Logged for the day at 1653 and almost ar my 11k step target so I'll hit that. Hope you all had a good day.

Heygirlheyboy · 22/09/2020 18:55

It's actually crazy to think of the amount I'd have gone through in junk a year ago and how few steps I was taking at the same time. So obvious now but got away with it for so long I was fooling myself. I'd say I often hit 2000 cals food or thereabouts while burning less than 1500.. After 9.5k steps today my burn is only at 1750cals so just shows you.

IDontMindMarmite · 22/09/2020 20:10

Yeah same

TheHoneyBadger · 22/09/2020 22:02

Hi. My temperature went up so have to have a test. Impossible to book one. Tried for ages.

Head has got one for me and a colleague will bring it in the morning. Wasted hours feeling guilty and wondering what to do foolishly and then hours creating and setting cover. No textbooks in zones and cover can’t access IT so quite the task but it is done!

No appetite so haven’t eaten today but drank lots of elderflower and tonic which is going down well.

September is not my month for weight and health wins it seems. Might have to call it a win if I don’t end the month having gained.

Sending encouragement to all. Lose some weight for me and I’ll try and rest for you. Good trade?

HowLongToXmas · 22/09/2020 22:37

How many calories are you guys having per day?

Lalanbaba · 22/09/2020 22:37

@TheHoneyBadger I feel you, it took me 3 days to get a test.
Hope you feel better soon!
Today
B: cereal with milk. Tea
L: ham, humus, cucumber, banana, veggie soup
D: duck leg, mash, green beans
S: chocolate cookies watching GBBO.

SistemaAddict · 22/09/2020 23:42

I've been hungry today which is probably a good thing after yesterday. I've demolished most of a sourdough loaf from the co-op Blush poorly people need toast. Dr has given me more antibiotics, upped my steroid combination inhaler and told me to continue isolating. Le sigh. I was going to make soup today but forgot so might make some tomorrow. Lentil soup and dumplings is my favourite. Looking at my Fitbit app that I've hardly bothered with lately I'm surprised to see that I've met my activity targets today. It took a while to sink in that I'm only 3 pounds off my target weight of 9st 4lb. I'm very aware that this will not be acceptable to my eyes or head so I think it will be quickly revised to 9 st.
Hope everyone ill gets better soon Thanks

IDontMindMarmite · 23/09/2020 06:43

@HowLongToXmas if you go to tdeecalculator.net/, it will calculate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). If you subtract 500 a day from that, you will create a deficit of 3500 a week which should translate to 1lb a week weight loss. But weight loss is rarely linear, my first two weeks I didn't lose a thing but did pretty consistently after that.

If you are short for example and your TDEE isn't very high, subtracting 500 could take you below 1200 a day but don't try to eat less than that as it is said that we need that much a day to get enough nutrients. Having said that, people who fast would disagree.
