Hello

Just where has August gone? People who joined the thread last month are reporting significant losses 👏👍🥇. In 4 short weeks I myself lost 9lbs.

Do you too want to lose weight? Feel fitter? Get healthier? Feel happier?

You’ve come to the right place!

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

Jump in 😊. You’ll be glad you did this time next month 😀.

That's a shame *@FatGirlShrinking. There must be a contraption to attach to a bike to carry a drink.

I'm home alone. It is so quiet. Got lots done.

Weight up this morning and I was so annoyed I said I am not having that and got off Grin.

moonbells · 15/09/2020 12:54

Hello all
I'm dropping in for support as I'm getting a bit fed up.

On the positives I lost 6st a couple of years ago, got fit, ran a sub-30m parkrun, then weight crept back on (a stone) though that didn't stop me running a 10K and a half marathon at 67kg.

Then it all went a bit wrong thanks to the world right now, as many others have found! So I hit 73kg, decided enough was enough and have lost 5kg again.

I'm now stuck. I'm using mfp to log everything, restricting to 1000 a day (which is how I lost the 6st in the first place so I know that should work!) and have picked up my exercising from nothing to running a couple of 5K a week and a longer run which is now back to 10K.

Can I lose more weight? Can I heck. Stuck at 68kg and I need it to be back at 62kg. Eat mostly high fish-protein meals, salads, high veg curries... and have one hell of a calorie deficit. I should have lost 3lb last week alone. I can't blame muscle gain as I'm post-menopause and it's hard to do. This didn't happen last time at all!

Any ideas gratefully received, or support to not give up in frustration and head to the biscuits!

FatGirlShrinking · 15/09/2020 13:09

Hi @moonbells DO NOT GIVE UP! Back away from the biscuits slowly and then have someone remove them from your sight.

Look at how far you have come. You have done this before, you know that every weight loss journey includes plateaus and that's all that is happening now.

If you keep following the plan the scales will start to play ball again. In the meantime maybe take some measurements to see if you see a loss there instead.

Notasyoungasiwas · 15/09/2020 14:27

Second weigh in this morning - another 5.5lbs down. Made me feel very good as I've been feeling very stressed about work for the last couple of weeks (EY educator)Smile

SunshineCake · 15/09/2020 15:01

Hi *@moonbells. Well done on your six stone loss but I am sure at the moment that is no consolation. I have been the one having the most tantrums in here as no matter what I did I couldn't lose a thing. I started C25k in May and have now run 61 times and also I go on the exercise bike and do 25km every day. I run every other. Finally I started to lose weight and I am about 12 lbs down since May with the same couple going on and off and on a couple of times. I also do intermittent fastening and eat lunch around 12.45 and dinner at 6. I no longer eat again at 8.30pm just because the window is about to close.

It is a slow process for me but I tell myself slow off means more likely to stay off. I just hope it is true.

Keep going. Don't buy the biscuits. Make sure you are eating enough as it is easier to lose weight if there is a lot to lose imo but it slows down as the weight comes off. Don't forget to drink plenty of water too.

Well done *@Notasyoungasiwas. I think you've stolen everyone else's losses Grin.

moonbells · 15/09/2020 15:34

Thanks - the biscuits unfortunately come attached (briefly) to a teen boy, so unless he's scarfed the lot I have temptation everywhere. Hmm

I just hope the plateau stops before I lose patience!
Thank you FatGirlShrinking for suggestion to use the tape measure. I shall do... for some reason I haven't measured recently, though I know my clothes aren't as tight.

MrsJonesAndMe · 15/09/2020 17:56

well done @SunshineCake I'm sorry to hear the afternoon was a bit of a disaster. It gets like that sometimes. I'm sure we'd have a good old natter in person Smile

Feeling better i hope @FatGirlShrinking?

Hope you're OK @fallfallfall @TheRealHousewife and @Foreverlexicon

Have you thought of IF @moonbells?

I've got to run without reading all the rest of the posts, but just wanted to poke my head in!

FatGirlShrinking · 15/09/2020 18:05

So full!

Got a little ahead of myself and thought 'yay I feel like eating again' so made chicken breast with broccoli, sweetcorn, 2 cocktail sausages and 2 little stuffing balls.

My stomach hasn't had that much food in it in a week and now I am very very full.

fallfallfall · 15/09/2020 18:41

@MrsJonesAndMe :)
oh yes poking along over here. weight has hit a plateau, but i'm persevering with the exercise sessions.
going away camping for 3 days...well not really camping...dh and i are going to a major city to pick up some bee keeping equipment. we're taking the travel trailer with us and will over night in the rockies (banff on the way there and jasper on the way back) and will visit with our youngest along the way. so 3 days round trip with 3 six hour stretches of driving. most likely will see my sister in law as well.
kind of exciting regarding the change of scenery but sad to interrupt my routine, which hasn't resulted in any change in 10 days anyway...

FatGirlShrinking · 16/09/2020 07:00

Start of this weight loss journey was 29/01/2020 at 233lb, BMI 35.4
26/08/2020 - 220lb, BMI 33.4
02/09/2020 - 218lb, BMI 33.1
09/09/2020 - 213lb, BMI 32.4
16/09/2020 - 210lb, BMI 31.9

3lb loss this week
10lb loss this month
23lb loss total since starting

TheRealHousewife · 16/09/2020 09:01

Good Morning WOWsers

I’m up a bit from 2 weeks ago (unable to weigh last week as away) but not worried. I need to get back on it properly. Weighing food and watching portions. Drinking enough water and getting some exercise in.

is interesting. It’s about autophagy and IF.

Keep going you can do it!

OP posts:
Trisolaris · 16/09/2020 10:33

Morning all.

I’m on the plateau too. I’ve been really good and exercising! My body just doesn’t want to go lower at the moment.

I’ve got a professional exam next week so I’m refusing to get worked up about it as I need to study and then will just up the running from next week.

SunshineCake · 16/09/2020 13:45

That is great *@FatGirlShrinking

Day 1 of starting C25k
09/05/20. 176 (12 stone 8)
16/09/20. 162.2 (11 stone 8.2 lb)

Let us ignore that stubborn 0.2lb Grin and claim a stone loss.
I got on the scales and said to myself it didn't matter if I was the same as the other day which was 165.8 (11 stone 11.8), looked and then nearly fainted. I think that is the WHOOSH! I had an emotional win too which in some ways is more important. I ran a new route and realised I wouldn't make 8.5 km which is what I ran on Monday. I have always done the same or more each time. After walking the dog for 1 3/4 hours before I ran I was already tired and decided just going home was the right thing to do. I didn't feel I had failed which I would have expected to do. I'm happy with that and in some ways more than the loss.

Happy afternoon everyone.

moonbells · 16/09/2020 14:37

MrsJonesAndMe I suspect I'm effectively doing IF already - I don't eat breakfast unless forced to (!) so I start at lunch/1pm-ish and then eat supper at 7-ish.

I am hoping that this week it starts to drop again... this morning I was 67.5kg but after a 5K last night. It might just be water. Who knows!

FatGirlShrinking · 16/09/2020 14:48

Well done @SunshineCake !

@Trisolaris @moonbells and @TheRealHousewife plateaus and gains are frustrating but they end eventually.

Based on the cramps AF will be happening soon which usually brings random weight fluctuations and a desperate desire for chocolate. Had a new contraceptive implant fitted a couple of weeks ago so this month could be more or less random that usual.

MrsJonesAndMe · 17/09/2020 14:21

Oh @moonbells are you eating enough? I've never done calorie counting, but worth thinking about?

Poor you @FatGirlShrinking I hope you feel better soon and that the PMS takes a hike.

You're doing so well @SunshineCake How are you today?

I have run around like a blue arsed fly this morning and been sat on my bum for the last hour or so to just try and have some energy for the afternoon/early evening rush! Finally have a blood test booked for to check my thyroid levels.

Waves to all, catch up later x

moonbells · 17/09/2020 15:44

@MrsJonesAndMe Pretty sure I am - I don't let myself undercheat, and have a box of bran-based breakfast cereal ready for when I need to top up in an evening, as it were. Alternative top ups are mini Babybel lights or Finn crisps depending on how many carbs I've got through that day or a piece of chocolate.

I was 67.4kg this am, so the latest drop has stayed off for two days in a row, which hasn't been the case of late, so I am cautiously optimistic that I'm finally on the way down again and it's not going to bounce.
Hurrah!

It'd be nice if I could be 67kg by next Monday (my weigh-in day) but that might be stupidly optimistic!

5k run tonight. The easy pace one this time. I really should swap race pace Tuesday for today, so I'm not doing the race pace two days after the Sunday long run! If I do that I'll have three days to recover before the next long run which is a lot more sensible. I miss Parkrun!

SunshineCake · 17/09/2020 17:35

Hi *@MrsJonesAndMe I'll be glad when all are fed and I can sit down for the day. Had a busy day and haven't stopped plus DC2 was stroppy with me then DC3 was rude to me and it doesn't make me feel good. Had therapy today, last one for a while. Looking forward to running tomorrow. Struggled a little with running after the 1 3/4 hour walk with the dog but emotionally it is better as she is walked first so I am not worried about her wondering where I am and then I can shower after my run and stay in until school run time. Dog had us up at 4.40 so dh and I are rather tired.

Hope your bloods go okay and you get a rest tonight.

*@TheRealHousewife hello, I have just seen I sent you a WhatsApp on the 2nd of September and it isn't showing as read.

Trisolaris · 17/09/2020 19:23

Right so,

I’ve done 2k on the new rowing machine that dp bought today and a 10 minute run.

Those sodding scales will go down! They will!

fallfallfall · 18/09/2020 04:35

Excellent @Trisolaris, seems like I’ve been sitting for 12 hours...long slow car journey. No opportunity for much. We can barely see the mountains for US fire smoke.

Galvantula · 18/09/2020 09:37

Argh I'm being rubbish at keeping up.

I'm sitting at 58.9kg, which is making me happy. I'm feeling healthier than I have in a while and like I have more energy. Still doing my 15-20 minutes a day of "walking as fast as I can" 😅

I'd like to fit in some strength training when I can.

Hope you all have a good weekend. 🤩

Saraban · 18/09/2020 13:15

Hello, popping my head back in having made a brief appearance or two in the August thread (starting dieting mid to late July.) I’m now down to 10st 6, meaning I’ve lost 12lbs total, which I feel great about.

I’m finding this week SO HARD though. I’m not sure if it’s because I took a bit of a break when I went on holiday a few weeks ago and so got out of the rhythm (although the week after, I was back on it with no problems) or because I’m on my period...Probably the latter.

All I want to do is just say fuck it and binge sweet things and carbs - and in fact, I have done that to an extent. It’s odd because I could just push on through with my last period with no changes, but this time I would do just about anything for a cookie. Feeling hungry a lot more, too. Is that common? Period whilst dieting = insatiable desire to eat EVERYTHING?

I’m only 2lbs away from losing a stone which is my first big milestone and should be really motivating, so not sure what’s gone wrong.

FatGirlShrinking · 18/09/2020 13:23

Hi @Saraban it could be your period but I find that with proper carbs junk food, if I give in and let myself have something I start to crave it again, like the first few days of being on a diet.

Something to do with the way sugar affects insulin levels makes you really hungry. I find if I have a plate of pasta a couple of hours later my belly will be rumbling, mouth watering, almost desperate for food. A similarly sized plate of green veg and meat or eggs will keep me full for 4-6 hours.

SunshineCake · 18/09/2020 13:41

Keep going Saraban.. One tip is to acknowledge you want X, tell yourself you can have it but only in 20 minutes or after you have done a chore. Have a drink, do your chore and hopefully the craving will have passed. If not, ask yourself if you are eating your feelings or are genuinely hungry. If you are genuinely hungry then an apple would do. Or own the fact you want the cake.

I just had lunch and then was going to have a chocolate tiffin square. I thought with it being Friday, and DH has suggested we stay up later so hopefully I sleep all night, I thought we might have a few crisps later. Instead of the tiffin I had some raspberries with oat lactofree cream substitute. Pleased with myself.

This morning I ran at 6:35am. Had to shorten my route due to wanting to see dh before work and the school run but still did 8.1km. Shame dh had to go earlier to drop DD at a different place so looking forward to seeing him tonight.

I'm making sweet and sour chicken and mash/rice for the family but I will have a veg stir fry.

Good afternoon all.

moonbells · 18/09/2020 14:47

If you want a Friday smile, go and look at the Telegraph's articles where a journalist put on 11kg during lockdown and she was spending 8 weeks on a quite demanding (but all food-prepped for her - expensive!) routine.

www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/body/eight-week-fitness-challenge-can-lose-weight-gained-lockdown/

It's not the food or the HIIT stuff that makes me Grin. It's the terrible maths.

To start with she says she's 79kg and BMI 30. OK, back calculating that means she's 162.2cm tall (5'3.8")
Now she's 70.7kg and BMI 26.1. Back calculating means she's 164.6cm (5'4.8")

I'd love a diet that made me grow an inch in two months! Grin Grin
