Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 30lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

Hi all, and thank you for the words of encouragement last time I posted Smile we came back from holiday tired out and soaking wet - pesky changeable weather with its torrential rain! - and I have only just cleared the laundry mountain. I'm just so utterly exhausted though, and feel like I'm counting down the minutes days until the DC finally go back to school and I get a bit of a break...

@Galvantula how are you getting on with your DC back at school?

@Lovingitinlockdown I'd love to go swimming again, very jealous! I bought a new swimming costume in the January sales, and have used it... not at all Sad we can't even take DC to the swimming pools round here, they are all over 16s only.

However @Foreverlexicon I am also very jealous of your David Lloyd membership!! We don't have one particularly close to us, the nearest one is a good 10 miles away, and I don't think I'd use it enough to get my money's worth - particularly when the DC wouldn't be able to do much there either. Please make the most of it on my behalf!

Thanks for the info about Our Parks @TorysSuckRevokeArticle50, and well done on your weight loss! I'm hoping to start aerobics/ cardio again soon but have terrible diastasis recti since having the DTs, stomach crunches/ planks are agony. Although as @Trisolaris said, my body does want to hang on to every gram of weight and something must be done to persuade it otherwise!

@TheRealHousewife, I've recently ordered my second Covid test as the app's asked me again (the first one was about a month ago and was negative). I think it's because I still haven't recovered my sense of smell/ taste properly, so every so often the app seems to pick up on this and recommends that I get a test. I don't have any of the other symptoms though.

Well done on your running @SunshineCake, you are smashing it!! I hope you are feeling better after your therapy? My card was declined today too; cue a frantic check on the app to check funds, but it was all ok, I think it's because I've been using the contactless function all the time rather than the chip and PIN. And did I spot you on the 'names people hate' thread? DTS1's name came up once, but only because it was 'too common' - well it wasn't when I chose it, it wasn't unusual (top 50 name) but we didn't know any at all Confused

Sorry to hear about your AF issues @MrsJonesAndMe; I have the opposite at the moment, AF was due a week ago but no sign, and I feel hideously premenstrual! Is everything back to normal with the childminding? I feel for you with the defiant toddler, DTS2 has been back to that stage in his fury at having to go to school again soon (he told me grumpily that when he's 5 he doesn't have to go any more!), it's very draining.

I'm still getting nowhere with my motivation but may have to (try to!) make a GP appointment next week, I've had breathlessness and rib pain all week. If I sit down and do nothing then all is ok but when I start to move it's painful! I'm wondering if it's gallstones as I meet many of the risk factors Sad I'm generally just worn out, to be honest...

fallfallfall · 22/08/2020 03:41

welcome home ruby
well done sunshine focus on the positive.
i need to take time and read up.
i have my nose to the grindstone and focusing on a few different issues but doing my best to not skip exercise or overindulge.
eventually i'll catch up to everyone on the thread.

TheRealHousewife · 22/08/2020 09:16

Good Morning

Eating to plan. Scales bobbing about a bit .... share your frustration @SunshineCake. Well done on your running progress. Great achievement!

Welcome @ZebraSpotts & @Trisolaris. Youve come to the right place. Great ladies who are very supportive.

@Galvantula I converted my stones/lbs to KG. I didn’t know I was flirting around the 60kg mark but have been for about 10 days now. We’ll crack it! Eventually 😬

@rivierliedje The Walk of Temptation you face on a daily basis will really test your resolve. Don’t succumb, don’t breathe whilst going past the doorways ... don’t inhale the aromas or the devil 😈 will make you go in.

@RubySlippers77 fingers crossed your test is negative!

Wishing you all a great weekend.

@RubySlippers77 I have a grumbling gallbladder and when I have the pain it's below my right boob going through to my back, no position really relieves it but curling up foetal style can bring some relief. I can usually shift it within a couple of hours by drinking lots of water with lemon juice in and taking some feminax tablets.

Haven't had a full blown attack though which I'm told is very painful.

Foreverlexicon · 22/08/2020 09:42

@RubySlippers77 I definitely am (long may it continue); I’m genuinely REALLY enjoying it which has come as a surprise. It’s also one of the first times I’ve exercised for the sake of exercising rather than weight loss being the primary goal.

Yesterday was a good day. Bit low on the veggies though.

B - berries, banana, yoghurt and granola
S - banana
L - egg bagel, crisps and 2 peaches
D - 2 ryvitta with philly and tomato, olives and pistachios.
S - couple of starburst, caramel and pecan cookies
E - rode the horse, went to the gym and did an interval 5k and a rather savage ab circuit. Feeling that today!

Have a good day everyone

rivierliedje · 22/08/2020 10:15

@TheRealHousewife Grin Grin That made me really laugh. I am trying to think of a different way, so that I can avoid temptation all together, but it is very difficult. Taking the bus would mean a shorter walk, but it still goes past the doughnuts and it takes much longer. I could walk on the other side of the road perhaps? That might help.
Last night I went for the third of my week three runs for couch to 5k, which was fine. It was nice and breezy.
I also got off the train early to pop by the library and then walked the rest of the way home.

SunshineCake · 22/08/2020 12:23

Welcome back *@RubySlippers77 and I hope you've all dried out and finished the laundry mountain. I had to nip out for emergency supplies and just as I got in the car the heavens opened. Luckily I have a drier and my airing cupboard is big enough for hanging bits to dry and I'm thinking positive that the garden will be appreciative. I usually feel a bit rubbish for the rest of therapy day and all the next but this time I felt better sooner but don't really know why. Shame I've pulled a muscle and hurt my shoulder but we can't have it all good!

I thought my legs looked thinner so measured and since May I have three inches off my thigh Shock. I thought I'd lost the same off my tummy but not if I count from May but I'm blaming period for it today.

I haven't done much other than walk the dog for 1.5 hours, small food shop, put on two wash loads and hoovered all the house except the kids rooms but I'm shattered.

Hope everyone else is having a good day.

MrsJonesAndMe · 22/08/2020 17:54

Hi, just a quick post. Away for the weekend, so eating has been calorie laden and at odd times, but hey ho. Home tomorrow.

Glad you're back @RubySlippers77 and welcome to the new faces.

Catch up tomorrow x

RubySlippers77 · 22/08/2020 23:05

Ahhh that is the type of pain @TorysSuckRevokeArticle50, I thought it was my sore PMT-ridden boob (just the right one!) but then worked out that it seemed to be underneath... and I do meet many of the risk factors: female, over 40, have had DC, obese Blush can I ask how the GP diagnosed yours - was it blood tests alone or did you have any scans? Our GP is a nightmare to contact at the moment, previously I'd pop in to make appointments but obviously can't do that now, so I'm stuck on the phone like everyone else. I think I'll have to try though, perhaps a wake up call wouldn't be a bad idea to shock me into changing some habits!

Yes, I'm really hoping my test is negative too @TheRealHousewife, imagine if we had to be quarantined or something and the DC couldn't go back to school Shock Shock

Glad you are enjoying your David Lloyd membership @Foreverlexicon

  • I can imagine they have some interesting classes. And a lovely smart gym. And a great swimming pool.

The laundry mountain has been distinctly reduced @SunshineCake Grin I just needed some good drying weather! DP wants to go away again over the bank holiday weekend, but I'm not sure I can face the washing again so soon... well done on the inch loss by the way, shows that your exercise is definitely helping Smile

If you find the secret to avoiding temptation @rivierliedje then please pass it on!! I find it especially hard when we're away from home @MrsJonesAndMe - it wouldn't be as bad if the DC were more adventurous with their eating but they'd be happy with chips and chicken nuggets for every meal...

Hope all is well @fallfallfall Flowers

fallfallfall · 23/08/2020 00:01

Finally Ruby :)! pickled beets and now bread and butter pickles are done.
i don't like waste and the cucumbers (pickling type) needed to be processed asap. BTW these were gifted to me, so not like i bought them at a "good time" for me.
meanwhile sticky honey all over the house (light switches, door knobs, floor, but even the washer and dryer weren't spared...bottom of shoes...clothing of course...floor mats...) you understand i'm sure.
then there was my birthday with phone calls and visitors and text messages till 9pm.

all is well :), all the people necessary have been both phoned and emailed regarding the cell tower. i've done all that i could, now it's out of my hands.
food choices have been spot on but did include gulab jamon an east indian treat.
my weight is up due to the salt content but for the month i'm content, i predict nearly a 4 lb weight loss this month.
like sunshine i notice inches down in several spots thanks to Leslie.

ZebraSpotts · 23/08/2020 05:50

Hiya quick Q - for the first time when trying to drop weight I was in a healthy habit of weighing myself only weekly. Recently started doing daily, which is problematic, currently stuck on same number, despite sticking to good eating plan.

Which do you do, daily or weekly?

fallfallfall · 23/08/2020 06:06

I fluctuate a fair amount so I weigh daily but focus on the trend.
I use a smart scale that’s paired with my phone. It keeps track of; weight, bone mass, muscle mass, hydration and BMI.
It keeps me calm as often a plateau will be the muscle mass and hydration graph/numbers shifting.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 23/08/2020 09:16

@ZebraSpotts I weigh daily but only track once a week, so my weight on Wednesday mornings is what goes on my tracker. It goes up and down every day.

@fallfallfall what scales do you have, I keep looking at the fitbit ones then convincing myself I don't need them as my old scales are still working. Plus I'm a bit afraid that new scales will tell me a completely different weight to the ones I have Grin

SunshineCake · 23/08/2020 11:03

Hi all Smile

*@RubySlippers77 glad the laundry is under control. Sunday is always the busiest day for washing here as I do the bedding and it takes more washes. My record was once nine washes in one day but that was when I had at least two children in washable nappies. If your dh wants to go away then he should tackle the washing when you get back. Why is it all your job anyway ??

For the DC I assume you eat with them and if you want to get them off the nugget nightmare why not buffet style lunches? Put out six things and they have to pick three maybe. I used to put stuff out and say don't you eat that before I am back and it was always eaten by the time I had got my drink Wink. Little tastes of new stuff, let them help make it, encourage them to serve themselves and you if they would like that and maybe buy less nuggets.

Hope you had a nice break away *@MrsJonesAndMe and make sure you have enjoyed the food. No point having stuff if you aren't going to savour it Wink.

I ran my furthest today but my watch wasn't charged so no real stats to log. Also ran my longest time but I averaged it out and it was a slight improvement. I then took so long working out how to put the new batteries in the scales that when I weighed I was like whatever. I am 1.5lb down.

I generally don't weigh on non run days and try hard to only do so after three runs but doesn't always work. I'm surprised I am down so much as I have my period and had a glass of wine last night and some crisps twice this week but the win is the not being upset if I'm the same or up. I'm currently my lowest I have been in years.

October 2018 I was 14 stone due to non diagnosed intolerances. Today I am 11 stone 12.6lbs.

.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 23/08/2020 11:12

Wow @SunshineCake going down over 2 stone must have made such a difference. Have you had a dig through for old photos to do a comparison? I bet you look like a whole new person. I saw your post the other day about losing 3 inches on your thighs too, time to reach for skinny jeans!

I took some photos at the beginning of August in just bra and knickers they are NEVER TO BE SEEN by any other person, but I'm hoping if I take them on the first of each month I'll eventually be able to see an improvement (it couldn't get any bloody worse that's for sure!!!).

SunshineCake · 23/08/2020 12:32

I hadn't registered that I had gone over two stone off *@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 even though I was giving DH chapter and verse about my losses HmmGrin. I lost 1.5 stone easily then another half took a bit longer. Since then the same half as been on and off but I consoled myself with the fact I had solidly kept off the 1.5 stone. When I started running on May 9th and day one I was 12 stone 8. I am doing IF too but I finally feel like I have lost another solid half stone.

No photos really but yesterday I felt my size 12 jeans were quite loose but no way can I get into a ten and doubt I ever will. I have straight and slim jeans and the slim are skinny to me and I have been wearing them a while. I saw my legs in the window reflection in my shorts and can really see my thighs are slimmer.

I think this might be the first time I have posted full weight and not just the pounds and that is why I ran away BlushHmm.

I'm sure you have an improvement already even if not showing on the camera just yet.

Galvantula · 23/08/2020 12:56

@RubySlippers77 the kids are enjoying being back at school, the smallest who just started is annoyed she can't go every day. DS2 is doing pretend school at the weekend for her. 😂 I'm not sure what he's teaching her... 🤔. Bit worried about bugs flying around, DS2's best friend has a tummy bug that's been round his whole family 😱 they've only been back a week and a half.

I need to catch up a bit on the thread. Nothing to report here, dipped just under 60kg on Friday - only 59.9 but it still looks the right direction. Smile

Foreverlexicon · 23/08/2020 13:22

@SunshineCake that’s a fantastic loss! You should be really proud of yourself.

I felt like I ate way too much yesterday. First night so always a very long day and I also had an awful shift so I had a bit of comfort food. I added up the calories but actually considering the length of the day and exercise, it’s not too bad. I also had two snack meals rather than a proper lunch just due to timings and things.

B - yoghurt with berries, banana and granola
S - hummus, 2 falafel, carrot and tomatoes
S - 2 rice cakes with peanut butter and banana
D - Chicken korma and rice
S - malteser cookie, big bag of maltesers
E - 25 min cross trainer, 5 min stair climber, 45 min arm/leg weights, 20 min swim and rode the horse. Also did a fair bit of walking at work.

Have a good day everyone.

MrsJonesAndMe · 23/08/2020 15:21

Hi all, home now and the washing mountain is being tackled. I mean it's 3 days right??? Confused

Sounds like some good stuff going on - especially @SunshineCake Well done!

I weigh couple of times a week - maybe 2 or 3 times @ZebraSpotts but I'm more in a maintenance zone now than actively losing...though could do with getting rid of a few more lbs.

Missed my exercise, so will enjoy doing something tonight before collapsing from exhaustion - anyone else find they can't sleep well away from home?

fallfallfall · 23/08/2020 15:32

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 it’s a Withings, Nokia does blue tooth stuff as well. DH is a spender and lives up to date computer “stuff”. He got me a very cool bike post for my birthday.
Well done @SunshineCake, how much more to go to be within the top end of the BMI recommendations?
Well done @Foreverlexicon I’m making good use of leftover Indian.
Positive thoughts @Galvantula that the bug doesn’t go through your household!!
@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 There are enough unkind photos of me that it’s a bit shameful, your a brave strong woman if your doing a photo log! I curtsy to you.

Hello @SunshineCake thanks for the mention! I do keep intending to come back(and lovely to see you again @TheRealHousewife under your shiny new name) but tbh I’m really really struggling at the moment. Plus have put back in all the weight I lost so am Sad about that.
Hi to everyone, haven’t read the thread but will be back when I can and will do so. Hope you are all surviving the car crash that is 2020. Frankly, Flowers and Wine for all of us!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 23/08/2020 18:01

Today has been mainly lounging around but I did do week 2 day 3 workout which was Glutes. Lots of squats, planks, fire hydrants, leg deadlifts and heel taps. I'm really enjoying the workouts and like that they let you tailor to your level by showing 3 adaptations of each exercise. Get a right sweat on though as you never stop moving, doing active recovery like marching on the spot between exercises.

Today will come in under calorie count, only just because I couldn't resist having a white crusty bap with buttery spread on mmmmmmm worth it!
