Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 30lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

Jump in 😊. You’ll be glad you did this time next month 😀.

Yes! If you are going to be naughty make sure you enjoy it!!

Galvantula · 23/08/2020 18:50

We did a very slow but quite long walk today, keeping pace with parents and the kids stopping to look for sticks. Nice to get some fresh air though.

Forgot to weigh yesterday and today so hope it looks ok when I do tomorrow!

Calories wise I'm probably looking like somewhere between maintaining and losing a tiny bit, but most of my dinners are at least partly estimated when I log them, as DH has cooked them. I cba working out exact values, I just use it as a guide to keep me on the straight and narrow!

RubySlippers77 · 23/08/2020 22:56

Sorry I missed your birthday @fallfallfall; glad to hear you enjoyed it Cake

@ZebraSpotts I usually weigh in weekly - may be a throwback to my many years of WW meetings! - I don't find it encouraging to weigh in any more often anyway.

@SunshineCake I did four washloads today. Living the dream! We had soooo much to do after our last camping trip and DP was straight back to work, I was doing it as and when I could and getting it on the washing line between rainstorms... that's amazing news about your two stone loss (and inch loss) by the way, you must be really pleased when you make the comparison. A friend took a photo of me last year with the DC, and I was chuffed as I hardly have any of me with them - nope, when I saw it all I could see was double and triple chins and flabby arms Confused

I didn't sleep well in the tent @MrsJonesAndMe but then perhaps that's not surprising, the DC are terrible wrigglers and I had to sleep between them!

Glad your DC are enjoying school @Galvantula, and that you've got them out walking. I'm really trying to encourage mine to take more exercise, as they're already tall for their age and I think they're going to be heavy too! Obviously it was trickier over lockdown, as all the sports groups etc were cancelled and the parks were shut, but hopefully it'll get easier soon. I'm looking into tennis and swimming lessons for them and we'll be at junior parkrun when that starts again too; I just want them to enjoy being active and not worry too much about what they eat, if they're getting plenty of exercise to burn it off! But it is very tricky when I'm not feeling great myself...

RubySlippers77 · 23/08/2020 23:01

By the way @SunshineCake, I'll definitely try the buffet idea again. DS2 is a brilliant eater and will try most things, but DS1 spent a week eating plain pasta with dried cheese last time we stayed at an all inclusive place, maybe he'd be better now he can talk properly and ask for things he'd like Hmm I noticed tonight that he has a hole in one of his teeth and am a bit mortified, he definitely has a sweet tooth which PIL indulge, but I should have spotted it before. Annoyingly it would have been noticed at his last dentists appointment in April but of course that was cancelled!

fallfallfall · 24/08/2020 04:55

thanks @RubySlippers77
crazy steady day over here with honey sales. it's 9pm and i'm sitting for a few minutes before i clean the en-suite...i spotted it needed a good clean on Wednesday but i've not fit in the time to do it.
my left overs were tasty and with more veggies than the original meal but still pretty heavy with salt. i can tell by the way my ring fits.
exercise okay but nothing impressive.
ahhhh sleeping with wiggly little ones...the stuff grandma's dream of ;)
@Galvantula, the home cooking/counting up the calories can be too draining. i too eyeball my portions and know treats need to be a rare exception not a daily event. it seems to be working.

TheRealHousewife · 24/08/2020 08:21

Good Morning You Lovely Lot

How was your weekends? Mine was relatively busy. The pleasant side effect was a small whoosh. 10 days ago I hit a new low but it didn’t stick. Bounced about a bit. Today I hit another new low and hope it sticks. I tried the scales a couple of times and have gone with the higher of the two.

Fast800 Plan Progress Week 7 of 12
Wk1 10st 3.4lbs
Wk2 10st 0.7lbs
Wk3 9st 12.5lbs
Wk4 9st 10.1lbs
Wk5 9st 7.5lbs
Wk6 9st 6.5lbs
Wk7 9st 4.1lbs

@rivierliedje Hahahahaha. The extra walking with burn off any doughnut fumes you breathe in 😬

@SunshineCake You are doing great! 3inch of your thighs .... marvellous! Over 2stone loss is awesome 👏🥇👍😮. Well done on being brave posting weight (not that you have too) but I know that’s a huge step for you ❤️

@RubySlippers77 any results yet? I’ve everything crossed for you! To avoid temptation I imagine the next morning feeling pleased that I didn’t eat my craving. Low and behold the next morning it’s lovely feeling virtuous plus the cravings/temptation has gone! Hard but doable. Yesterday my other half brought me a white chocolate Magnum in. I politely refused whilst not listening to him saying ‘go on, one won’t hurt. You’ve not had a treat for ages’. It went back in the freezer and my treat was seeing the scales move downwards. Good luck with the laundry.

@fallfallfall you’re doing great. I like Lesley too and always do better when I’m up to following a video.

@ZebraSpotts Everyone is different. I’ve weighed daily or every several days. I don’t have the patience to do weekly 😬. Try to not focus on your day to day readings, look at a trend. If you use an app it easy to compare week to week or month to month. Some create graphs of your progress. Weight loss isn’t linear and many things affect it such as age, sex, meds, chronic conditions etc. Look at your trends. Well done for sticking with it! 😊

@Galvantula Well done on breaching the 60kg bracket! 👏

@MrsJonesAndMe welcome back.

Right ladies, it’s the last full week of the month, let’s make it count! Some reminders:-

  • Water intake (feeling hungry can be dehydration)
  • Portion control.
  • Mindful eating.
  • Tracking food.
  • Nutritious food including protein, fibre & healthy fats.
  • Exercise if able.
  • Taking time to chill & de-stress.
  • Get some quality sleep.

Take care.

@SunshineCake yep, I've lost 30pounds, got at least another 30 to go, just to still be overweight on that nhs bmi calculator at the end.
Silly isnt it :/

Foreverlexicon · 24/08/2020 11:06

Morning all.
I had a terrible day yesterday. Basically had a huge huge confidence crisis at work to the degree where I almost quit on the spot. Was in floods most of yesterday about it. Then went and had a better shift last night and had a good chat with my crewmate about it.
Probably sounds pathetic but this was my dream for so long and to still feel so incompetent over a year in (albeit it with quite a lot of time off this summer), isn’t a nice feeling when it’s a job which can have so much at stake. It’s also such a big part of my identity.

This had a knock on effect on me eating far too much sugar partly to keep me awake and partly comfort. Plan to get a bit more on it today! I’m now off for a week and do have a fair few plans which include food but will do my best to make good choices in between!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 24/08/2020 11:47

@ZebraSpotts I'm similar weight, have about 22lb to lose to edge into the 'overweight' category

SunshineCake · 24/08/2020 12:38

Two stone off in just under two years isn't that great, especially when 1.5 of it came off pretty quickly but it is better then two on!

I'm so tired today. Ddog has us up all night and I took forever to get out of bed. Walked her for 1 1/4 hours and then once home pegged out the washing and did some weeding after I'd watered the garden. I've cleaned the loo and sink in the main bathroom and really need to find something to do after lunch as sitting around annoys me unless it is after about 3.30. I might take ddog for another walk and I'll tidy the lounge. Dinner is fish, potatoes and salad with more veg. I had home grown spinach yesterday and it was delicious.

Good afternoon everyone. Hope you are okay *@Foreverlexicon.

Trisolaris · 24/08/2020 12:55

So I had three days under 60kg last week hitting 59.2 on Friday but am back up to 60.0 again today. It feels like it’s slowly going down but it’s stubbornly resisting staying under that 60kg!

Goal is to be consistently under 60kg by the end of the month but I’m on holiday from Wednesday so that might be hard!

rivierliedje · 24/08/2020 13:32

HOpe you are feeling better today @Foreverlexicon
@SunshineCake It doesn't really matter how long it took, it is an amazing feat.
I forgot to weigh in on Saturday, yesterday and today, so will have to be tomorrow. I don't think there will be any loss though, in fact I feel more uncomfortable in my skin.
Had a nice walk in the mountains on Saturday, went for a run today and did the weekly shop on foot yesterday (very heavy coming home!)

MrsJonesAndMe · 24/08/2020 14:38

Hi, quick check in - been busy with washing, ironing and cleaning glamorous

Sending all who needs it a (((hug))) - especially @Foreverlexicon sounds tough, but keep going. You are making a difference x

I've gained about 2lbs over 3 days Shock but it hasn't spurred me into being good today... I have got a food shop being delivered in a while and that is full of the right stuff. Will do some exercise again tonight. I too enjoy Leslie now.

SunshineCake · 24/08/2020 15:02

Hello again

Sorry that this post is all about me as mostlyHmmBlush but I have just had some shocking and upsetting news regarding dh so I ate a small snickers to help it be gone and then cycled 14:06 km on the exercise bike while I watch Lose a Stone in 21 days. I burnt 612 calorie and it took me 35 minutes 12 seconds.

RubySlippers77 · 24/08/2020 16:00

Sorry to hear that @SunshineCake Daffodil

I hope you are ok now (and that your DH is too?) - that is serious cycling, by the way!!

rivierliedje · 24/08/2020 17:52

@SunshineCaken That is a great cycle, I hope it helped deal with the shock.
I feel very unsettled, still very tired. I was falling asleep on the sofa last night and managed to be fast asleep in the time in took my partner to turn the dishwasher on and come up stairs.
I feel a bit stuck in a rut.

MrsJonesAndMe · 24/08/2020 18:26

Here if you need to talk @SunshineCake

fallfallfall · 24/08/2020 19:01

:( I hope both of you are okay @SunshineCake

SunshineCake · 24/08/2020 19:29

Hi everyone. Sorry to post and run. Had to feed the kids and dh and I. Lovely dinner. Left over chicken thighs, tomatoes, mushrooms and courgettes for me with new potatoes (about half a portion I would normally have) sweet corn, green beans and salad. Everyone else had fish Kiev or smoked salmon.

Anyway, enough waffling. DH has had his blood test results and all I can remember is he is pre diabetic. She told him to lose weight. He weighs ten stone! He's five foot eight and has lost 1.5 stone since his heart attack in February. I was very upset and worried about losing him. This week we will wing it for eating as we have so much in and really need to use it up and then defrost the freezer and then it will be get organised more. Tricky as all three kids won't eat much the same never mind how we want to eat but I ad years of cooking twice a nice and cooking different stuff even if eating together, so it will be okay once I know what I am doing. We've been through some really tough times but I am so worried about him Sad.

RubySlippers77 · 24/08/2020 20:32

Oh @SunshineCake, that sounds insensitive of your GP to say the least!! Surely at that height and weight his BMI is absolutely fine?! And diabetes is not necessarily to do with weight anyway, but what you're eating Hmm maybe she was trying to tell him to cut down on sugary/ fatty foods but didn't phrase it very well?

I don't know if she offered to send him on this course www.england.nhs.uk/diabetes/diabetes-prevention/ but DP did it a couple of years ago (via his GP) and found it really helpful. Perhaps he could ask for a referral?

Snap with needing to use up food - although what I really need is a few hours to myself to go through the fridge, freezer, cupboards etc and make a proper list of what we need/ can send to the foodbank if we're not going to eat it - maybe once the schools finally reopen I'll find the time...!

fallfallfall · 24/08/2020 21:02

@SunshineCake, that type of information needs to come with more detail on the drs part. I’m assuming his fasting blood sugar wasn’t ideal. For starters I’d double check that indeed he had fasted...
My dh refused to do anything without breakfast and I’d say easily years of non fasting fasting bloodwork. It never sunk in how his morning coffee and tiny bite to eat affected the results...
I’m sure you two will successfully work on this and get better results next time.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 24/08/2020 21:07

@SunshineCake doesn't sound like the Dr was overly helpful.

I got GD when pregnant and was advised to follow a low GI diet, the main message was to reduce but not cut out carbs and to replace simple, refined sugars with complex carbs like whole grain pasta instead of white pasta, sweet potato instead of normal potatoes.

Also to pair carbs with protein, so apple slices with peanut butter, toast with bacon or egg and so on.

We're doing all the last minute school prep here, making sure uniform is all sorted and scrambling around trying to find the school books that were sent home in March.

Had a good day food and exercise wise, coming in under calorie count today and spent a couple of hours running round the park this afternoon with DD.

SunshineCake · 24/08/2020 21:50

He has really changed his diet since his heart attack and of course he could do better but I'd give him a good 8/10 already. It wasn't a fasting test and he has to take heart meds and eat in the morning anyway. It was the nurse who told him and it seemed very general. He didn't bother telling her he only weighs ten stone when she said lose weight. He is drinking cranberry juice for its benefits but of course the sugar might be an issue. If he was supposed to fast he would have fasted.

Definitely no mention of a course but he has to have blood tests repeated in three months.

Then after asking ds eleventy billion times about a PE kit top he was adamant he has it turns out he doesn't and the new one is £62 Angry. They used to be £40, needed three different and now they eventually decide to order reversible ones and inflate the price. For one years wear Angry.

fallfallfall · 24/08/2020 22:22

health food stores sell unsweetened natural cranberry juice. that shouldn't be too difficult to source....says the one in canada ;)
non fasting would be the A1C, which looks at old cells (they are replaced every 90 days) when was his ha again?

MrsJonesAndMe · 25/08/2020 06:37

Good luck with DD going back to school @TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 Bet it's mixed feelings after such a long time.

@SunshineCake that is quite poor effort from the GP. Hope you are feeling a bit calmer. He's not overweight, but worth listening/reading about insulin resistance. Jason Fung talks about it on YouTube and also has a book.

I feel pants. Tired and grotty (with weather to match the mood). Will check in with you all later x
