Good for you Dairy, it's important to change the mindset from "I've messed up, I might as well give up". Remember it's much easier and more sustainable to do really well 90% of the time than to be perfect 100% of the time.

I'm just back from walking the dog so going to have my lunch shake now. I ended up trying one of the meal replacement bars for breakfast. It was OK, but I think the shake is more filling for some reason.

Dairym23 · 09/06/2020 14:46

Thank you both! Yes I agree the shakes are more filling than the bar. Fatbegone and byrony if you drink usually are you still drinking now on the diet? I really miss my glass of wine so going to have one every few days

FatBeGone · 09/06/2020 15:23

Only been on it a day and a half haha - i will try not to drink during the week (which will be better for me anyway)

Will be more relaxed at the weekend

I just had the slim fast porridge, not a fan (shame there are another 4 in the box) a bit slimy?
My orders for Monday
SlimFast Flavour Chocolate Caramel Bars (snacks)
SlimFast High Protein Meal Replacement Powder Shake
SlimFast Sour Cream Pretzel Snack Bag, 23 g, Pack of 12

I usually drink red wine which has probably contributed to my weight gain! But usually only Friday and Saturday nights so I'm not missing it yet. I'm going to have gin and slimlime tonic this weekend instead but try to limit it to two.

I've not tried the porridge but will definitely give it a miss! I love the cheddar snacks so I'll give the pretzels a try too.

Dairym23 · 09/06/2020 17:04

I used to drink vodka and diet lemonade but I noticed I ate loads more for some reason. Red wine even tho more calories makes me full, I know weird!

BryonyG · 10/06/2020 07:51

Morning all, another new day! How is everyone feeling today? I went to B&M Bargains last night and bought some chocolate shake powder and some of the pretzels so I'm looking forward to trying those today.

SallyLovesCheese · 10/06/2020 08:11

Hi, may I join? I got my 7-day starter kit on Monday so have been on it since Mondays afternoon snack. Yesterday wasn't too bad, managed to stick with it except eating a few spearmint polos, but I was alone in the office so only my Slimfast stuff to hand. No idea what I'm going to do today at home! Although I did replace a banana snack last night with a bag of sweet and salty Proper Corn - 63kcal a bag! My dinner last night was Young's Lighter Chip Shop Cod Fillet, McCains jacket spud and peas and carrots.

I'm feeling really good today! I hope you all have a good day too!

FatBeGone · 10/06/2020 09:14

Hi @SallyLovesCheese - great to have you

Re snacks, i think so long as you are under 200 (both) then dont worry) I was going to buy the Penn State pretzels - they are pretty much the same in calories
Penn State 22grams- 93kcals, 2.4g fat 0.2g sat, 1.4g sugar, .37g salt, 0.7fibre
Slimfast 23grams -99kcals, 2.2g fat 0.2g sat, 1.5g sugar, .32g salt, 0.9fibre

99kcals, 2.2g fat 0.2g sat, 1.5g sugar, .32g salt, 0.9fibre

I have an update re the porridge.... how make it less slimy
Make as instructions and then microwave. It may not be 30sec , may be less but just cooks it a bit more. (i havent tried this yet)

Hi @SallyLovesCheese! I'm glad you're feeling good today, I'm feeling really positive too. I feel like my stomach is less sticky-out already and it's only day three for me. I'm resisting the scales until Monday though, I don't want to be disappointed if they've not moved yet.

I think the Slimfast snacks are a bit of a rip off to be honest, I guess they're more convenient than anything. Last night I had the caramel snack bar and it was quite nice, but the night before I had two jaffa cakes for the same calories and probably half the price!

I'm just having my chocolate shake and it's lovely!! I made it with unsweetened unroasted almond milk which has taken 55 calories off and it tastes lovely. Great tip, thank you @FatBeGone!

FatBeGone · 10/06/2020 09:57

I will probably lose a fair bit in week 1 - but then thats the amount i need to go past for my goal!

and i am saving my 2 meal bars for if i (ever) go out anywhere

SallyLovesCheese · 10/06/2020 17:25

I'm already planning beyond the next two weeks (I have two 7-day kits) and on Amazon you can get the range of SF stuff but if you subscribe it's even cheaper! I had in look in Sainsbury's today and powder (only strawberry) is £5.50 on offer. On Amazon it's around £4.97 for any flavour, plus another 5% if you subscribe. So I'm thinking I could get four different flavours once a month to mix and match during the week, then meal bars for the other two meals (also cheaper - 16 bars for £20!). Then I'll buy my own snacks, like the Proper Corn and two-finger KitKats.

Sorry, I'm on a tight budget so trying to find the ways of doing this as cheaply as possible! I reckon I can do SF meals and my own snacks for around a tenner a week, plus have more variety than the kit offers!

How are you doing, Bryony? Still positive?

FatBeGone · 10/06/2020 18:04

@Sallylovescheese don't worry about saving money, I'm as tight as a gnats chuff!

I've got the caramel one coming on Monday, and some bars and stuff, but all under the sub and save (BTW, you can cancel the subscription at any time)

BryonyG · 10/06/2020 18:43

If you have a B&M nearby they have the stuff at good prices, just not the whole range. You can get a 7 day starter pack for £9.99, and the powder for £4.69.

I'm still doing good, had a good day on plan. I've been a wee bit hungrier today, so I'm having my tea early and then still got my snack to have with a cuppa later on. This is the best I've done with a diet for months so I'm really happy - just hope the results are reflected on the scales on Monday!

AppaDappa · 10/06/2020 18:59

Just a little incentive for you guys. My DP tried loads of diets and none really suited him. He has now been on slim fast for 5 weeks and has lost 2 and a half stone. He has a lot still to lose hence the big weight loss. But he is proof it does work and is possible to stick with.

imnottoofussed · 10/06/2020 19:10

Waiting for my tub of strawberry powder to arrive so I can start too Grin

SallyLovesCheese · 10/06/2020 19:12

Ah, I see I'm preaching to the converted! Thanks for the tips, guys. No B&M nearby, unfortunately, so I'll have to survive on my Amazon/own snacks combo hopefully.

Sounds like a good day, Bryony! I've been hungry too, but it's made me realise how much I ate before. I know the plan doesn't necessarily help a person learn portion size or how to eat healthily once they stop it, but just a few days in and it's taught me how much I ate while pretending it was just 1200kcal. It's like that TV show 'Secret Eaters' - I think that was me! I could munch through 400-500kcal of snacks in one evening easily and it barely register.

I made a WW recipe for dinner with enough calories left for a small glass of wine, so that was a nice bonus! Just trying to decide what my one snack will be tonight. Possibly the SF pretzels, because I had the chocolate bar this afternoon.

BryonyG · 10/06/2020 19:24

Wow @AppaDappa, well done to your husband and thank you for the incentive!

I know exactly what you mean @SallyLovesCheese - it's so easy for the snacks to add up over the day. Getting that under control should hopefully make a big difference and break the bad habits.

FatBeGone · 10/06/2020 20:06

wow - 2.5 stone in 5 weeks! i wish!

well we are at the end of day 3! well done Team!!!

Dairym23 · 10/06/2020 21:21

Hi everyone. Wow 2.5 stones amazing loss to your husband. I’ve been half heartily dieting tbh. I’m trying to get so many changes made all at once, I think I need to slow down and just focus on weight loss first!

Snack sound like a good idea, I might order some from amazon.

It’s supposed to be day 4 tomorrow but I’m restarting as want to do properly so day 1 tomorrow! Goodluck everyone!

BryonyG · 11/06/2020 08:51

Good luck @Dairym23! Why not change your mindset a little bit - instead of saying you're starting again because you weren't perfect, why not see it as easing yourself in gently? Phase 1 was say 50% on plan, and now you're starting Phase 2. That way it's a more positive way to think about your progress so far.

FatBeGone · 11/06/2020 09:19

@BryonyG - you are just the role model for support!! thats so lovely

i'm starving this morning, and really not looking forward to a day of cold milkshakes! Day 4, i can do this! we all cam

(no B&M anywhere near me sadly)

Dairym23 · 11/06/2020 09:29

@BryonyG thank you! That is a brilliant way of looking at it! x

@FatBeGone - why not try warm milk? When I was dieting for my wedding I mixed the chocolate shake with a little cold milk in blender then added boiling milk, it was frothy and lovely if I remember correctly!

BryonyG · 11/06/2020 10:24

Warm milk is a great idea, I'm going to try that at lunchtime. I've got the chocolate shake powder so it will be just like a hot chocolate, yummy!

LlamaofDrama · 11/06/2020 12:23

May I join you please? Was on another thread that's gone very quiet and I need some company!

I started SF nearly two years ago, lost most of what I wanted, maintained, lost the rest and then... peri, HRT, lockdown... it's crept back on again. I don't have loads to lose but I really want 5 to 8 lbs off to get me back to where I was maintaining.

Last week I started back doing this properly. 1.5lbs off so I'm feeling a bit happier about it but I need some accountability to keep me going. So if I encourage you, can you please kick my backside if I'm not taking this seriously?

Dairym23 · 11/06/2020 12:33

LlamaofDrama - goodluck! You can do it. Well done for 1.5 loss. Are u doing the 2 shakes and an evening meal type of plan?
