Thanks! I have over 4 stone to lose so a long way to go yet!

SallyLovesCheese · 22/08/2020 15:13

Welcome, @martha79!

Well done on the losses!

Didn't have such a good day yesterday. But you know what? I think I ate around 1400-1500 kcal. Previously, a bad day probably would have been in excess of 2,000-2,500kcal or more. So I see this as a big step forwards!

I am determined to remain positive. I'm mixing it up so sometimes will have a proper lunch of a nice sandwich and some crisps, then a bar for dinner. I find it helps keep things interesting (as interesting as they can be on this diet)!

BigMumma18 · 22/08/2020 17:00

Well done @martha79, that's great 🙂 I pee more if I drink a lot of water but that's the bit I struggle with, water intake.

@cornishbird80 I would like to lose another 4 stone too! So you're not alone 😉

@SallyLovesCheese don't be hard on yourself, that really doesn't sound like a bad day at all. I try to mix things up a bit too as it can get a little boring if not.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend too

martha79 · 22/08/2020 20:32

Thanks @SallyLovesCheese - great username! That's not a bad day at all.

I think I am drinking more water than usual - plus the shakes so I am probably getting a lot of liquid.

Pleased with today, shake for breakfast, a couple of the SF snacks, and a really nice 'mini' fish and chips for lunch (which I reckon was round about 600 calories looking at similar on other menus). Had a bag of salad that needed using up so had that with a couple of boiled eggs this evening, orange jelly with a few raspberries afterwards, and I'm at about 1200 calories.

namechangedyetagain · 25/08/2020 09:21

After a disastrous day, I've started this morning. Had a strawberry shake for breakfast, tasted ok but had an odd texture. Was going to have a meal bar for lunch, and undecided as yet for dinner. I'm guessing pasta is a no go? I figure anything I do is better than nothing. Going to aim for the whole week, but we have a friends BBQ on Sunday.

We'll see. It might just kick start me.

martha79 · 25/08/2020 10:43

Good luck @namechangedyetagain - did you make the shake from powder or was it a ready-made one? I think pasta is fine as long as you stick to the right portion size.

I'm realising that one of the reasons I eat too much is that I like variety - am struggling a bit with a sweet shake for breakfast and a sweet bar for lunch, for example, or a 'meal' that only has one flavour - so I've been trying to mix it up a bit. Breakfast this morning was one of the snack bars broken up with yoghurt, banana and a sprinkling of coconut. This is day 7 so will be interesting to see what the scales say tomorrow.

BigMumma18 · 25/08/2020 17:02

Hi everyone!

@namechangedyetagain I think pasta is fine if within the rough calorie amount that you usually have on the diet for your meal! I personally prefer the texture of the ready made shakes although I do use the powder too as it works out expensive that way all the time. Hope you enjoy the BBQ on Sunday

@martha79 I think we just have to mix it up a bit as it can get boring and we've just got to find out what works best for us personally. Good luck for tommorow!!

Hope you're doing ok @SallyLovesCheese?

martha79 · 26/08/2020 09:33

Thanks @BigMumma18 :)

Week 1 - 4lb off - pleased with that! Visiting friends over the bank holiday weekend and I'm just going to enjoy their lovely cooking and lots of walks, then back on it next week.

I don't think I'll be buying any more of the meal replacement bars - I can't quite work out what I don't like about them, it's like they're both too sweet and also not sweet at the same time.

BigMumma18 · 26/08/2020 09:46

@martha79 yay! 4lbs is a great start, enjoy the weekend though, a day or 2 as a treat doesn't hurt. I know what you mean about the meal replacement bars, I have been trying others with a similar calorie amount and I really like a few! The phd white blondie one and some of the grenade ones are nice, I find the meal replacement bars are best in the morning with a coffee or at lunch when I'm busy at work. Also at the moment they have an offer online with phd 5 bars free you just pay postage of £3.99!

SallyLovesCheese · 26/08/2020 12:52

Massive well done on the 4lbs loss, @martha79!!

@BigMumma18 - I'm okay, thanks. No loss this week but it really doesn't take much more calories-wise in the week for me to be stagnant or even gain on the scales. Had two off-plan days so back on it today with a vengeance. I seem to go up and down in terms of commitment to the plan!

I'm looking into creating my own bars and shakes, because it's cheaper but also I can have that variety that I agree you miss. I'm looking into these shakes and bar recipes if anyone is interested. Just got to choose a protein powder I like the look of for the bars!

@SallyLovesCheese glad you're ok, I know what you mean, it's difficult to be enthusiastic about it all the time! That's a great idea about the bars, I think I will give that a go too, thanks for the idea 🙂

martha79 · 26/08/2020 19:50

Thanks both and cheers for the PhD bars tip off @BigMumma18 - I've ordered the free pack. Great idea to make your own @SallyLovesCheese. I've done some baking with protein powder, things like muffins - if you've got a Decathlon near you I found their own brand one is pretty decent.

BigMumma18 · 27/08/2020 08:38

Hey everyone, my weighing day today and lost another lb, I want to really try hard this week as would love to be losing 2lbs a week considering I've got so much to lose, will see how that goes, I've been out for a birthday meal this week too and not been sticking to the diet much, it's like I need a kick start again!

Loseastonein21years · 27/08/2020 10:32

Phd blondie bars are yum! They seriously taste as good as a chocolate bars and eating them satisfies any desire to eat sweets for me.

namechangedyetagain · 27/08/2020 15:10

Well I have failed miserably. The first day I was so hungry I had a normal lunch instead of a bar, yesterday and today I skipped breakfast but then had wrap for lunch. And went out for dinner. This is my problem, I love eating too muchSad

Going to try again tomorrow. Is there any alternatives in terms of shakes and bars to sweet things?

I really hate myself. I can't even stick to a basic program.

Loseastonein21years · 27/08/2020 15:21

@namechangedyetagain don’t beat yourself up. I know this is a slim fast thread but let’s be real, slim fast is neither healthy nor sustainable as a way of eating, especially long term. It provides around 1200 calories which for many people is below their basic metabolic rate. Of course you’re going to want real food over some processed shitty bar. Give yourself a break and set a more realistic calorie goal, even if some of your meals still consist of slim fast. Never go below BMR and cut around 20% from your TDEE and you’re good to go.

BigMumma18 · 29/08/2020 20:23

@Loseastonein21years I love the phd blondie bars too!

@namechangedyetagain please don't be too hard on yourself, the slim-fast diet isn't easy to get used to and impossible to stick to every day! I think if maybe you just try to stick to a certain amount of calories each day and use bars or shakes within that (as it saves a lot of calories) that's a better way of looking at it for me. Hope you're ok and feeling better now?

martha79 · 04/09/2020 09:10

Hello all! Impressed with the PhD bars - very tasty :)

I've lost no weight this week, but not really surprised with a few days away which involved plenty of food and wine. But, back to it...

I think that's a really good approach @BigMumma18 - the shakes etc make it easier to stick to an amount of calories (for me, not having to work it out for every single meal is definitely motivating).

BigMumma18 · 04/09/2020 09:21

Hi @martha79, I think I've stayed about the same this week too, although my scales are being temperamental so may need to get some new ones! I love the phd bars too, much tastier than the slimfast ones in my opinion.

Hope everyone else is ok?

SallyLovesCheese · 04/09/2020 15:38

Catching up, everyone (school starting has taken precedence lately).

No weight loss this week, that's two weeks I've stayed the same. But I'm doing what I can. I definitely have up and down days.

I calculated my BMR and I'm around 1350, so above SF calories. So I don't beat myself up if I have a little more one day!

I've been making my own shakes with protein powder, almond milk, banana and peanut butter and they are DELISH! Still eating the SF bars for lunch at work as they're easy. I am finding, though, that my shake fills me up until lunchtime so not having a morning snack, which gives me more calories in the evening when I'm more likely to snack. Win!

Really hoping for another 1lb loss come Monday. Just to keep me motivated...

BigMumma18 · 04/09/2020 16:26

Hi @SallyLovesCheese, lovely to here from you! Those shakes sound amazing! Hope you get the lb loss you're hoping for on Monday 🤞

BigMumma18 · 30/10/2020 17:11

Hi all! Not posted for a while as went off track, guess I just got fed up! I ate badly for a few weeks but didn't want to pile back on what I lost. Luckily I only gained 2lbs so I decided enough was enough and needed to get back to it. I decided to stop with the slimfast and try the 16.8 diet where you only eat for 8 hours and fast for the other 16. Surprising I find this much easier and I feel less hungry, I eat what I want but am sensible with it so still stick to about 1,200-1,400 cals a day. Best of all I've been on it a week and lost 4lbs 😊 I'm not saying slimfast isn't any good as it worked for me as a kickstart of my journey. I really hope everyone is ok!? X

Minouche1960 · 27/02/2021 20:52

Slimfast - losing 3 lbs a week on average using Slimfast chocolate but have noticed great improvements with my hair and skin.
