Lockdown lose a stone! That tricky last stone!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 18/04/2020 11:38

Hello,
So I got back on the scales today and I was 9 stone 12.5.

The Dukan diet calculator says I can be 8 stone 10 by June 20.
Can this be true? Let us try it out!!

Based on my exhaustive and extensive diet 'research' from the last 27 out of 41 years of my life and weight ranging between 8 stone and 12.7 stone I am going to do the following:

  1. Daily 'change my mindset' reading in the morning
  2. Meal plan for the week but every morning commit to what I am going to eat for the day.
  3. Follow a low carb diet based on Dukan when my book arrives and Louise Parker recipes because I love her.
  4. Tuesdays and Thursdays are 16/8 days.
  5. Beachbody on demand - Morning meltdown 100 workouts.

I have lipoedema and I am not 100% sure my thyroid works.
I haven't got any lower than 9 stone 10 in the last two years.

I feel well and might as well use this lockdown time to focus on balancing the blood sugar and my insulin response! Weight loss should be the result.

Anyone else want to join in and lose a stone over the next couple of months?

Hello MOhM - yes, whenever I start Dukan I also feel very tired and headachy for the first couple of days, then by about day 3 I feel so much better - so hang on in there! I think it's your body adjusting to getting energy from protein instead of carbs.

ImPeckish · 22/04/2020 20:31

Could I ask what the Dukan diet is? :)

yukka · 22/04/2020 20:52

Can I join please! Also interested to hear what the Dukan diet is?

I had a baby last year, am at pre baby weight now - but want to lose a stone more, weighed in 11st flat 10 days ago, then 10.10 on Saturday. No or very limited carbs, high protein and veg, 45 mins on turbo every day (whilst entertaining 9 mth old in the pram!) and a walk with the pram every day varying 2-5 miles.

I think 4lbs in a week was a one off, so I'm aiming for 2lbs a week,

My motivation is.... if not now, when?! No excuses! Good luck everyone.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 23/04/2020 07:58

Welcome @yukka!

The Dukan diet is a four phased diet.
Phase one is called Attack and you eat only protein for a short period of time. (plus oatbran)

Phase two is called Cruise and you eat protein and vegetables (plus oat bran) with protein only days. Some people do it 5 days protein + veg and 2 days protein only, some people do it 1 protein day and 1 protein and veg day alternating.

Phase three is called something else and you start adding food back in.

Phase four - your life with one pure protein day on a Thursday for ever!

The Louise Parker Method is a much more sustainable version - her method is based on protein and vegetables but she allows fruit and some carbs. That is how I ate before and how I will eat after this period of focus.

Right everyone! Are you ready?! How are you today? What are you committing to do today?

My Day Six Commitments

Motivation: Everyone feels resistance. Acknowledge it and then act. Don't wait. Do one thing right now that will get you closer to your goals.

Meals:
B: Greek yogurt
L: Oatbran Gallette with Tuna and quark
D: Omelette with lean burger.
S: Fish sticks

Movement: Day six of morning meltdown - cardio session

Ahhhh day three of Attack. I slept better, I feel better. I often wake up with stiff and painful joints and I realised this morning I don't have that feeling. I can't say I am looking forward to my food today as I have a sort of sticky feeling in my throat from too much protein. So there's pros and its cons to this phase!!

Have a lovely day everyone!

Morning I’m jumping on board, if that’s ok. I have a few pesky pounds to lose!! My downfall is evening snacks any tips to stop me most welcome 🙏

yukka · 23/04/2020 09:13

Thanks for explaining @myohmywhatawonderfulday they can alll be quite similar I think.

I slept really well but feel quite weak today. Prob the impact of no carbs. So aiming for long walk with the pram, might try turbo later today if energy picks up.

But feeling much less bloated all round.

@fikel my best technique is literally to do something. When you would normally snack, read, do a puzzle, exercise, FaceTime someone - anything!- to get over the hump. And if needs be opt for something healthier. Also late snacking I believe can stem from low calorie breakfast so look at what you're eating in the mornings and see if you can do crease healthy calories there.

Happy Thursday, enjoy the sunshine ☀️

fikel · 23/04/2020 10:50

Thank you I have to do something!

WellTidy · 23/04/2020 12:01

Started the day with a four mile walk. Latte for breakfast, soup for lunch and then a high protein but otherwise pretty normal dinner (protein, carbs and veg).

I’m not working today, so am doing crafts, garden play and reading books with Ds2 plus some MN in between. Nothing strenuous. My bum is aching from all the walking, so probably for the best.

chillikor · 23/04/2020 12:14

@@myoh can I join? I'm the same start as you but not sure your diet would fill me up!
How are you dining your hunger?

chillikor · 23/04/2020 12:15

So far I've had a cup of tea and a white coffee.
For lunch I have leftover sushi I made that I need to eat!
For dinner I was going to make Bulgogi which is higher cal. But I want to experiment.

Is there a real science as to why Asian cultures are generally thin despite high carb diets?

Foreverlexicon · 23/04/2020 12:24

Apologies for going a bit awol. Struggling a bit with MH during all this and on bad days I shut down a bit. Have been eating okay but only riding the horse for exercise.

Today’s meals
B - Pina colada smoothie (no booze sadly!)
L - chicken, broccoli and pine nuts
D - Thai green curry
S - strawberries and blueberries, yoghurt

Will ride the horse and do 30 day shred. Ankle has been a bit sore so had a few days off exercising and will sit out of the high impact moves of the shred as I want it better ASAP.

OhCobblers · 23/04/2020 13:43

Sorry for not reading the whole thread before posting but would love to join.

I would like to lose 2 stone doing the bloody sugar diet (M diet) that I read about on MN / low carb.

Finding it relatively easy to stick to and I'm running/working out pretty much every day. I'm currently 11.6 and have only lost 4 pounds in a few weeks which surprised me as the book suggests up to 14lbs loss in two weeks (though only really been sticking to the diet for 8 days).

I am drinking wine but not a lot as to give that up in lockdown is tough!!
Any ideas?! Thanks

Squashbanana125 · 23/04/2020 15:12

Well done everyone.

Today plan eat between 12.30-7:30
B-fast
L- scrambled egg and beans
D- steak and broccoli. May have it with a jacket pot but trying to reduce my carbs
Will go out for a walk hoping for 40 min fast walk

OhCobblers · 23/04/2020 15:49

@Bearspears I was particularly intrigued with your post as we are the same height and weight (when you started).
Apart from 1200 calories are you doing anything else for weight loss? Such a great loss so far!
I eat around 800-1000 calories but not my exercise calories (anything between 150-400) so I'd hoped for more than 4lbs off in a month?!

Bearspears · 23/04/2020 19:20

@foreverlexicon I don't think you're alone with your MH struggles. I've been very up and down recently and know lots of friends have been the same. Well done on sticking with the food plan even though you're not feeling 100%.

Bearspears · 23/04/2020 19:29

@ohcobblers thank you! I've found fasting really helps so I don't eat until 12/1pm and more recently have stopped eating at 6-7pm latest. I've had to be quite tough on myself recently as I know the last stone will be hard.

I do a fair amount of exercise including 10k runs as that's a good distance for me. I'm really enjoying running again, especially as it means I get an hours break from the kids!

Well done on your loss so far. I definitely had months where I only lost 4lbs but the loss has accelerated since lockdown. The first week I ate like it was Christmas and I soon realised I'd feel rubbish if I carried on so myself and DH made an effort to be more careful. My DH is very supportive and eats well so that helps.

Hoggleludo · 23/04/2020 19:46

Me!!!

I'm trying to use lockdown to get very fit. As in very very fit

I try to do at least 90 mins high intensity workout each day. However. I'm very unwell. But I'm pushing! Trying to get my hr into 170 each day.

Don't want to lose weight. Just tone up

Been working out for weeks now. But finally got the diet in order today. Low carb.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 23/04/2020 20:52

Hello everyone! So great that so many of us in this together! Lovely to see new names and lovely to see familiar names.

There are also some very impressive exercise things happening. 10K runs, 90 mins HIIT, and I already said I love horses too.

I always read about people who lose weight eating 1400 calls plus diets and I just wish I could eat that much food and lose weight.

I had a good day but my breath is terrible. I am not sure if I selling this diet or not! I haven't been at all hungry today and my face looks thinner and I am happy with that!

What is Bulgogi?

OP posts:
Bearspears · 23/04/2020 20:58

@myohmywhatawonderfulday I won't lie - you're not massively selling the diet Smile but I've heard good things about it. Have you ever tried Dukan before?

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 23/04/2020 21:17

No this is my first time on it. It is borne out of pure desperation to be thinner and deciding that I needed to do something different because I have always avoided keto before. I went on the website on Friday and it gave me such hope that I could actually lose weight.

OP posts:
Bearspears · 23/04/2020 21:22

@myohmywhatawonderfulday fingers crossed it works for you. When's your first weigh in?

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 23/04/2020 21:32

On Saturday. According to the weight loss calculator I should lose three pounds this week. Fingers crossed. Fingers crossed for us all!

OP posts:
yukka · 23/04/2020 21:36

@Bearspears gosh what I wouldn't give to be able to run 10k. I used to about 5 yrs ago. I've been given an old Phil and ted running pram that my dh is going to fix up so I can try and get going again.

@myohmywhatawonderfulday fingers crossed for some results for you, you're being very good so I'm sure it will work 💐

I was really low on energy this morning so skipped the turbo and did fast 4 mile walk in the sun - broke a sweat!. Going for an early night so I can crack on it first thing tomo. I feel like the scales won't have moved on Saturday 🤦‍♀️ might just fast tomo 🤣🤣

Bearspears · 23/04/2020 21:52

@yukka It has taken me a few months to build up to 10k. I have ran further many years ago but I don't have the time anymore. I've never ran with a buggy though so well done. I imagine that'll add a fair amount of resistance.
