Lockdown lose a stone! That tricky last stone!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 18/04/2020 11:38

Hello,
So I got back on the scales today and I was 9 stone 12.5.

The Dukan diet calculator says I can be 8 stone 10 by June 20.
Can this be true? Let us try it out!!

Based on my exhaustive and extensive diet 'research' from the last 27 out of 41 years of my life and weight ranging between 8 stone and 12.7 stone I am going to do the following:

  1. Daily 'change my mindset' reading in the morning
  2. Meal plan for the week but every morning commit to what I am going to eat for the day.
  3. Follow a low carb diet based on Dukan when my book arrives and Louise Parker recipes because I love her.
  4. Tuesdays and Thursdays are 16/8 days.
  5. Beachbody on demand - Morning meltdown 100 workouts.

I have lipoedema and I am not 100% sure my thyroid works.
I haven't got any lower than 9 stone 10 in the last two years.

I feel well and might as well use this lockdown time to focus on balancing the blood sugar and my insulin response! Weight loss should be the result.

Anyone else want to join in and lose a stone over the next couple of months?

@overweightcat thanks I think I read the same thread and as a result I ate and drank whatever I wanted over the weekend and then started again Monday (on 800).

Filling up with mostly protein goes a long way to keeping me fuller for longer. Plus only eating between 12-8pm (I never had breakfast anyway). I'll keep going next week too (though will take a break this weekend) and then see what my weigh in is then!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 25/06/2020 21:39

Oh Cobblers - that is an amazing loss and I am going to join you on the high protein low cals. Overweight - AF does that sort of thing. You are so lucky to have 1700/1800 as maintenance.

I went out to dinner tonight and I literally feel like a big bloat of water. I don't feel bad - I feel happy because it was such a great meal - but I am ready to feel better in myself again.

So tomorrow:

B: Protein shake with yogurt
L: Chicken Salad
D: Steak and courgette
2 Litres of water

Exercise: Weight training with morning meltdown Jericho - workout number 56

Have a good day tomorrow x

So happy to report a total weight loss of 4.5lbs this week!!!

Clearly the high protein/low carb/low cals is working for me. I've been very strict with counting the cals and averaged 900 per day (due to wine intake!) plus some exercise but not as much as I would normally do in a week.

Will definitely stick to this for another 2-3 weeks and see where I'm at. Have a great weekend !!

Squashbanana125 · 27/06/2020 23:11

It’s been so quiet on here. I weighed on Thursday and was down 0.5lbs to 10 stone 0
So i was really happy.
Last few days not been brilliant but hopefully posting here will help. Way too much choc consumed today. But I’m sure a few good days will sort it out.
Hope everyone is well.

overweightcat · 28/06/2020 08:36

That's great @Squashbanana125 !

How's everyone doing this weekend?

Official weigh in this morning is 65.5kg down from 66.6kg last week so I'm pleased to say it looks like I'm on track for my target. I was worried at one point as I seemed to jump back up to 67kg but I think it was because AF was due.

Long walk today hopefully and a slightly more relaxed day food wise.

Squashbanana125 · 28/06/2020 12:23

Determined today to stick to my way of eating
B- fast
L- omelette
D- maybe left over bbq food and salad
The last few days have had too much chocolate, sweets and ice cream.
I have lots of cleaning today as I just didn’t want to clean in that heat so that will keep me active for a few hrs.

Oh cobblers - amazing weight loss

Keep going cat- af can do weird things to our body. Keep going and I’m sure it will come back down for you soon

Squashbanana125 · 02/07/2020 12:55

It’s so quiet on here at the moment. Hope everyone is well.
I may look at joining another chat as I def find it helps when I post.
Weight in today now 9’11 3/4 so I’ve lost a stone and in to the 9’s woooo
Aim is to keep going and try and maintain about 9’8

OhCobblers · 02/07/2020 16:49

Oh well done @Squashbanana125.
I've also dropped another 3lbs this week Smile feeling very happy!

Squashbanana125 · 03/07/2020 15:33

Well done ohcobblers ! 3lbs is Brilliant

Here’s to another good week for us!
So quiet on here isn’t it. Hope everyone is well

OhCobblers · 03/07/2020 16:55

@Squashbanana125 thanks but after today's weigh in make that 4lbs!!

I'm hoping that it's quiet on here because everyone has had great success and doesn't need the support so much?!

Ive still got 10-14 lbs (will wait time see how everything fits before continuing) to go, so in the words of Arnie "I'll be back "!! Wink

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 04/07/2020 18:28

Well done both of you - you are doing so well. I am doing rubbish which is why I am so infrequent. Sorry xx

Squashbanana125 · 11/07/2020 11:29

How are you doing my?? Glad u posted as wondered where u was. Don’t be too hard on yourself

I weighed in this week and was a 1/4 loss so call it a maintain. Hanging in at 9’11.

OhCobblers · 11/07/2020 14:57

My weight loss is slowing down but i have lost a total of 1 stone 3lbs since mid April!!! GrinGrin I cant tell you what a difference this has made. I've been getting into clothes that are nearly 20 years old AND doing the zip up!!

I'm definitely definitely going to do everything I can to keep it off!

The last few lbs are going to be slow but target is end of August!! Fingers crossed!

TeaRose29 · 14/07/2020 16:11

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been AWOL. Was totally consumed and upset by some family stuff. Anyway, that is sorted now. I have managed to maintain my half stone weight loss, 10.4 seems to be "baked in" now. However, I'm really struggling to get rid of the last 4 or 5 pounds. It takes an enormous effort to drop a pound and then I can put it back on quick as a flash! Last week we went out for dinner on Saturday, first time since lockdown. I ended up having a burger and chips, as although we had gone to a nice restaurant, the menu was reduced and they had run out of the fish that I would have liked. I'd had nothing but a protein shake all day, plus I'd done a big weights work-out. I still weighed in at 2. 1/2 pounds up the next morning! I've got rid of 1 3/4 of that now, but it is annoying. (I did also have 2 glasses of champagne and half a bottle of wine, and pate as a starter, I must confess 😬😬).

Anyway, I will persevere! I want to be back at my target weight of 9.13 when my Slimming World group is back on face-to-face in August. (The Zoom groups have been good, it's been nice to keep in touch). Hope everyone is doing well. PS. sorry to be a total idiot but what's AF?

Squashbanana125 · 19/07/2020 12:39

Hi everyone

Sorry I’ve been a bit awol too. This week was a slight gain, first gain in 9 weeks. I’m now 9’12 1/4 - was only a gain of 3/4 so not even a pound.
But I don’t want to go on a slippery slope of gaining now. Being honest since I weighed Thursday I was awful Thursday and Friday but yesterday much better. I am due on my period so always crave more food. But I’m really hoping I don’t gain this week.
If I can be good from now till Thursday.
Planned to have a bbq today but weather isn’t good.
Hope everyone else is doing well. The summer holidays are always hard with kids off. Plus working from home in the mix. There’s not much me time.

TeaRose29 · 19/07/2020 13:14

10.2 3/4 this morning - Yay! Had a lovely meal out on Friday evening, but I had mackerel followed by venison, so all pretty light. I've been having more protein shakes and less actual food (I just can't be arsed shopping for and making low-cal things all the time) which seems to be helping, plus I'm back playing tennis now. 9.13 here I come!!

Hope everyone is OK.

modernfemininity · 24/07/2020 12:41

Hello myohmywhatawonderfulday
You have done so well and I have loved your posts. Thank you so much. I totally get it that your weight has again crept up a little.

I am just a little bit over 5foot tall and weigh similar to you at 9 stone 2.75lbs.

I should admit that I look okay-ish in my clothes. People around me are often bigger. However my short fat legs are not a good look.
Losing a stone or especially the last half stone is very hard. I would like to be 8 1/2 stone or even better ....8 stone! I need a new way of life. I have dieted over the last few years and lose the bit I want and then it goes back on.

To lose weight I am like you myohmywhatawonderfulday - I need a Ridiculously Low Cal diet of 800- 1000 calories ...as my normal dietary need is only 1300 and something. It means I cannot eat sensibly in the same manner as a taller, larger framed, long legged lady who is say 5’6.... I would just turn to blubber! This is why my weight fluctuates- I eat the same as people I am around and yet those portions I desire just like everybody else, are too big for my small frame.

I agree with all your advice, especially AVOID THE KITCHEN. When I clear up or prep food, I pick little morsels and then crave carb food like fresh french bread and butter that I have in for the family.

I enjoy having STEAMED WHITE CABBAGE as a rice or pasta substitute- so try that if you haven’t so far. I flavour it with black pepper.

Also, I avoid EATING OUT. Only eat at home and NOT IN THE CAR, never mind restaurants.

I have started growing microgreens like pea shoots at home, so to have fresh salad on hand, and I don’t have to shop so often. I also grow cress like a preschooler!

I love sweet potato and butternut squash and I roast those. I fry courgette rings. Perhaps the little bit of oil I use is too much? That seems ridiculous when everyone around me is eating chips and burgers in baps.

There is very little advice and support for small ladies wanting to have a fit, smooth and lithe figure so they can feel energetic and flexible, and can run or skim stones without pulling an unfit muscle. And we want to look good every day and it’s easier without the couple of extra chins!

Today’s culture is all about cocktails, snacks and luxury foods, luxury dining and yummy readymades or takeaways. It seems, I need to be an outsider to all that culture and only have an occasional treats ..and never so much as look at chocolate or drink orange juice! Grin

I have lost 4lb in the last three weeks and have another 1/2 stone or even a whole stone to go. So the next bit will be harder than those first 4lbs.

To lose those pounds, on an already okay-weight woman, are the hardest won pounds in anybody’s assessment. Don’t be hard on yourself and try to get there slowly.

Some bigger people have said to me, “It’s okay for you. You can eat what you like and stay slim.”
But that is so untrue. I deny myself food I fancy every day, and have done all my life (telling myself one piece of cake is enough) and a small portion of something calorific for me adds up to my weight creeping up.

Can I ask?...Is it true it takes a 3000 calorie deficit to lose a pound of fat? So ten days of 1000 calories for me, I would lose one pound? No wonder small people like us myohmywhatawonderfulday find it very hard to keep going.

I am joining you on your ambition to feel great with the weight loss and then to have a system of keeping it off.

My current preferred ‘rule’ is to almost fast two days a week (doing the 5:2 but not having the advised 500cals those days, having something smaller) and to be good on all the other days.

I will also always include social drinks and/or also having birthday cakes or tasting other social foodie gifts offered. I love joining in with family and friends and during this horrid pandemic some things are more important than my eating plan. It will slow my progress but it is also important to me to be part of social life.

Sending loving support to you al all. This thread and all the contributors have been really good!

OhCobblers · 27/07/2020 20:21

Hi everyone
Well the weekend weigh in was 10.3!! That's 19 lbs lost so far since April!!
I'm so happy but the fact that I've had to drop a dress size in some things/shops has made me ecstatic!!

7 lbs to go before I hit target. Well done everyone on their losses!!
It's quite easy for me to get a bit cocky and go off tangent and eat the wrong stuff now but I'm determined to stay on course!

Squashbanana125 · 15/08/2020 20:59

Hi everyone
It’s been a while since I’ve been here. But still doing well, had one week where I had a slight blip but hanging in there about 9’10 at the moment. I’d like to be 9’7. Lowest I got was 9’9 a few weeks back so maybe not sustainable. I just worry with 9’10 a few too many bad days and I’m back near the 10’s.
Nevertheless I’m happy and plugging away. But not getting too stressed as I’m happy where I am.

I know it’s been so quiet on this thread I hope everyone has just been too busy like me to post

OhCobblers · 22/09/2020 07:05

Hi all hope everyone is feeling good and well?!
I haven't quite got to target yet but I'm 6lbs off. Though finding it hard to stay on course.
I think I'm getting a bit lazy and cocky about the right food and my exercise!
Any tips how to stay on course for another month so that I hit target before 1/2 term?
Thanks so much

modernfemininity · 22/09/2020 08:57

Nice to hear an update OhCobblers!
I am so glad this conversation is back.Smile

I would love to hear from those who have been successful in maintaining!!

I am doing well i think, but it is not easy. I am now 8 stone 4lbs and very happy, though with my shortness I still have blubber, and I have 5lbs to lose.Smile

To achieve the success so far I have introduced the 16:8 diet and added it to my 5:2 and the lower carb Mediterranean diet. OhCobblers you could try the 16:8.

I have had to eat more calories on my 5:2 fast days after adding the daily 16:8, but on fast days I still stay under 800 calories. I am eating lots of veg and no beige or white carbs. I have no food and ‘drinks’ except black tea and coffee for 16 hours, six nights a week! This is not as easy as I thought it would be, because I clear the kitchen others have used, or clear the left-out biscuits, or I look at the fruit in the fruitbowl, and most nights I cannot have evening wine. Sad🍷 🍫

Also, in the mornings, I have black tea and coffee until lunch time. Sometimes I am very hungry for lunch.

This diet of mine is quite restrictive but it is very tasty. I do not weigh food nor count calories anymore. I do not eat potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, crisps, cake or biscuits. I eat a lot of light-fry courgettes and chicken, salad, fish, ham, a little cheese and I do cut myself some slack sometimes and add flour to sauces or have mayonnaise. A go-to lunch is eggs. I went out for a Chicken salad lunch one time, and then the next was a full on cream tea - like I said in my last post, socialising during this pandemic on very rare occasions is more important than my diet.

I am looking forward to having bread. I miss it. But as said above, I have no idea how I am going to maintain!!!

Advice on maintaining, anyone?

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 22/09/2020 19:06

Hello!!

How great to see you both!! Well at the gym yesterday I was 8 stone 9 - so I am sooooo happy. To maintain is a win!!

I guess I am sort of doing a Louise Parker style of eating - which was always my plan. My diet sounds quite similar to yours MF.

I would like to get to get to 8 stone 2 eventually but I can't face feeling cold at the moment! Though I will do the 5:2 to get there I think.

xx

modernfemininity · 22/09/2020 21:00

Well done myohmy - and you were at the gym. Good on you.

I can feel myself waivering. I had a lovely Lidl dark choc peanut bar this afternoon, and a packet of Cheeselets which are 150cals this evening, and these are on top of my healthy and tasty lunch and dinner (skipped breakfast as is my everyday habit).

Also I am 8 stone 5 (not 8,4) - an error with the kg conversion. So I have 6lbs or 7lbs to lose.

I read through your Motivations and Meals, and I now feel a bit stronger. My eyes are brighter and I am less chubby. I haven’t done the full body photo thing - I should have. My clothes fit me again, if a bit lumpy on the tummy, but it is a huge relief.

I want to push on and lose 1/2 stone more and get to a maintenance regime before Christmas. In real life people would think I was crazy because I am not ‘heavy’, but I know there’s a bit of blubber on my stomach and thighs which I could do without.

Today I worked in the garden only a short while. I felt a bit limp. I planted, did some sweeping and some painting. There is soo much to do, it felt a bit too much to do today.

Lunch was a chicken salad.
Dinner was sautéed leeks, cabbage, courgette strips and beansprouts (large portion), with chicken cooked in spiced coconut milk (small portion).

Tomorrow is a new day and I hope I will be stronger, both mentally and physically.

They say the rain and cooler temperatures are coming. That’s ok by me, I will get more done indoors after work and there is sooo much indoor stuff to do too!

So ... your new diet isn’t much different to the old but you have stopped losing weigh t and have maintained (I agree this is a win!!).

Can we talk on here a bit more about losing weight to keep us all going?

OhCobblers · 23/09/2020 19:23

@modernfemininity @myohmywhatawonderfulday
Great to "see" you both and @modernfemininity thank you for such a detailed post.

I've been doing 16:8 already since the beginning. That bit was easy as I hate having breakfast! Black Coffee and water are my fuel!

I've realised what's really happened is that I'm not shopping for myself like I was before. I'm adapting what the rest of the family eat to suit me which is fine but when I've not shopped properly I'm hoovering what ever is in the pantry when I'm hungry as I'm not eating "properly ".

A large handful of dried apricots and 3 large choc biscuits yesterday!! Sad

So I've been shopping and stocked up on what I need to eat for at least 3 days to get back into ketosis and giving myself 3 weeks to shift the remaining pounds. I'm also doing more HIIT training which really helped before!

modernfemininity · 24/09/2020 09:25

What did you stock up on? I need to brave the supermarket!
