Hello everyone and welcome to the March edition! The plan is to lose 7lbs or 3kg this month!

All are welcome whether you are a regular, newbie, lurker, returning member... all I ask for is the amazing positivity and encouragement I have seen on every thread so far. You guys have been incredible!

I am following ww blue plan and very low carbing. There's a good mix of different methods on here though :)

Previous thread here is anyone wants to look back: Lose 7lbs/3kg per month! The February edition! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3810787-lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month-the-february-edition

Current weight: 18st 4lbs

Hello @fractionated and welcome to this friendly corner of the internet!

My first question is whether you are breastfeeding? If so you probably need to allow yourself more calories to take this into account.

I also wanted to comment to say that I have felt so much less hungry throughout the day when I have started with an egg for breakfast (after suggestions from this group!) Personally I do have mine on a wholemeal slice of bread or bagel, but you can also make some really nice carb-free egg muffins by mixing egg with various chopped veg, ham, olives etc.

I also wonder if you could bulk out your meals with more veg? I am eating lots of cucumber salad (just with vinegar on, no oil) and carrot sticks. I also sometimes make a dip with Total 0% yoghurt, a tablespoon of sweet chili sauce, and a pinch of salt -- and it goes a long way with a lot of veg to dip in, yet is strangely satisfying.

I also really like a miso soup packet for when I want a little something.

WingDefence · 03/03/2020 13:02

With this talk of eggs, coincidentally I had two hard boiled eggs with my veg soup for lunch. I just really fancied them - to be honest two was probably overdoing it!

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Hello @fractionated and welcome. I've been here since August last year and I've found that I have got used to much smaller portions. I always used to eat the same amount as my husband but now I tend to have about half of what he has, and if he's having carby stuff (he's a chips and wedges man), I'll have vegetables instead. My go-to foods are Waldorf Salad, but made with fat free yoghurt, and also Turkish cabbage salad, like you get in kebab shops. I eat lots of fruit too. If I eat a big meal now my stomach feels really uncomfortable and I wish I hadn't. Perhaps you could find something low cal that you really like and always have it in stock. Lots of advice available here, good luck.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 03/03/2020 14:06

Hi @fractionated!
My experience is probably different to others. I drastically cut down the amount of food I was eating, and found it tough for 3 days. After that, my stomach adjusted to the new normal. Also, I never have breakfast now. If I do, it's game over for the rest of the day. I usually have some fruit at about 11. I'm eating lots of fruit, veg & salad then I have a normal family meal in the evening. I'm avoiding cheese and other fatty foods. I relax a bit at weekends, mostly so the DC are unaware, as I don't want DD in particular to have body-image problems.
Lots of water is definitely key. Good luck!

JessJonesJumps · 03/03/2020 14:16

Just realised I forgot to check in this morning. I'm slightly down from Sun. I just need to lose 0.2lbs to go from obese to overweight so that's my aim for this week.
I had a poached egg about 11am then made pulled ham salad for lunch. I usually have lots of rocket but read another health scare about it so am trying to cut down. Although there are so many scares it's difficult to keep track.

fractionated · 03/03/2020 15:15

Thank you everyone for making me feel welcome! I think it's going to be really helpful to be here!

Thanks for the tips to add in more veg, you're right. I sometimes get lazy but I must do it. I've just had a carrot 👏🏼 and I had a boiled egg and soup for lunch and that was quite filling.

I'm not breastfeeding any more so I just need to crack on.

Well done to everyone who is doing so well, it is inspiring!

Vebrithien · 03/03/2020 16:05

Afternoon all,
I've realised it's been absolutely ages since I last posted, so thought I'd leave an update.

Currently 19w5d, had the anomaly scan last Friday and all was good! Wriggly little baby, constantly on the move. Still on consultant led care, and likely to be induced early, but considering what we went through last year, am in a good place.

Have put on a couple of pounds, and have a visible baby bump, but am still 3 stone lighter than when I had my DD, so am happy with this. Also, not in the main risk category for gestational diabetes this time.

Hope you're all well, and I'll try to report back more frequently!

cricketmum84 · 03/03/2020 17:31

I've missed loads today!

@TheOnlyMrsW I'm a sparkling water fan too. I recycle pretty much everything but keep toying with idea of a soda stream to do my own and reduce plastic useage! I've wanted one since I was a kid!

@Egghead68 ah good :) I'm still coughing like a good un. Saw the GP this morning but he is saying it's just viral URTI and to keep up with paracetamol and plenty of water.

@Onesmallstep67 ❤️❤️

@recklessgran have a lovely time at the theatre! I haven't been in ages. Carvery sounds good too. Load up on the cauli cheese lol

Welcome @fractionated ☺️ I agree with the others that upping veg intake is a big help. The calorie value vs filling up value is far better than carbs. I'm low carb and do things like cauliflower and celeriac mash instead of potatoes and cauli rice instead of rice. I've gradually got less hungry over time although still have the occasional hungry day...

@JessJonesJumps what's the rocket health scare??

Hey @Vebrithien!! I was actually going to tag you yesterday to ask how things were going! Lovely update!! Sending love to mini V! Lovely to hear she is all wriggly!

Got my very veggie curry ready for this evening. Filled it with no chick strips, onion, garlic, ginger, courgette, peppers and spinach. Hoping DD appreciates my efforts! It looks and smells gorgeous!

@JessJonesJumps I can't wait to only be overweight Grin good luck!

Breakfast: mushroom omelette
Lunch: parmesan basa fillet
Dinner: Cajun steak with garlic mushrooms and hot sauce.

All delicious and I went swimming today, I try to swim at least 1km every time I go.

GetTheStartyParted · 03/03/2020 17:52

That looks lovely @cricketmum84

Hope your DD likes it. I have to cook separate meals for my DS as he can't follow a keto diet.

MotherOfDragonite · 03/03/2020 17:53

I would also be over the moon to be "only overweight"! Grin

Your food choices sound both fancy and delicious, @GetTheStartyParted!

MotherOfDragonite · 03/03/2020 17:54

Yum, @cricketmum84. I wish I was coming to your house for dinner tonight! Wink

Wiifitmama · 03/03/2020 17:59

I am a lurker on this thread but find it very useful so thank you!

On the sparkling water front, it is the only water I drink and I drink a lot of it! I have had a soda stream for years to be able to make my own. I would highly recommend it. It does not cut out the plastic waste completely as I take sparkling water out and about with me so buy 6 packs of the small plastic bottles. I have tried to pour the homemade water into Chilly's water bottles (and others) and it does not work - they are not designed for that. But as I drink a lot at home, it really has helped cut down the waste.

cricketmum84 · 03/03/2020 18:52

@GetTheStartyParted We still have to cook 2 separate meals as DH and littlest DD both eat meat. Although DH is a great cook and will usually do their meat option.

I must admit it's really nice to have eldest DD appreciating my veggie cooking though :)

GetTheStartyParted · 03/03/2020 18:58

Oh right. I don't find it much of a chore t9 be honest. He's quite a fussy eater so now he can have the meals he enjoys without me trying to make them suit everyone.

We also prep meals in advance so usually on a Monday evening we cook our keto food to last until Fri so it's only really DS's that I cook each day.

Thanks @MotherOfDragonite

KedsAndTubeSocks · 03/03/2020 19:18

Looks delicious @cricketmum84!

Egghead68 · 03/03/2020 19:28

Lovely update @Vebrithien. Curry looks good @cricketmum84.

JessJonesJumps · 03/03/2020 22:23

@Vebrithien lovely to hear from you and great news that mini V is wriggling about!

@MotherOfDragonite and @GetTheStartyParted this is the only place where people appreciate squeezing into the overweight category Grin Although I'm not sure how successful I will be since I had a mini chocolate bar and some ice cream today - oops!

@cricketmum84 the rocket scare was about the level of nitrates being too high in a lot of packaged rocket and it being a cancer risk. I can't find the original article I read but here's a Daily Mail article about it
usual MN Daily Mail disclaimer Rocket article

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 06:13

Dp and I were so excited when he passed the boundary from obese into just overweight the other week!! It’s really motivated him to keep going and I’m really proud of him Smile

My good plan today is

Brek - mushroom omelette and grapefruit
Lunch - soup and a salad
Dinner - probably grilled chicken and salad

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 06:14

I meant food plan, not good plan! Half awake here Grin

Egghead68 · 04/03/2020 06:29

Morning! 63.7kg. Goal today is to try to get back in control of my eating (been overeating since Saturday - ate 2 extra slices of fruit cake on top of my plan yesterday).

Welcome @fractionated. I agree it’s really helpful to eat lots of vegetables - so filling. I’m eating a lot of broccoli “rice” at the moment. I think I prefer it to normal rice.

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 06:39

@Egghead68 broccoli rice sounds good!! I had a carrot pasta dish in Bella pasta the other day - was actually yummy

KedsAndTubeSocks · 04/03/2020 06:55

Good to hear your news Veb!
I'm drinking so much peppermint tea my pee has gone a funny bright green colour!

cricketmum84 · 04/03/2020 07:23

I've got ages to go before I get into overweight :( although after looking at the NHS chart on their webpage I'm only a few pounds from going from very obese to just plain old obese. Yay sarcastic face

Plan for today is
B - lots of water
L - mushroom soup
D - spiralised courgette tossed in pesto

Off to work now so will check in properly later! I'm in a funny old mood today!
