Hello everyone and welcome to the March edition! The plan is to lose 7lbs or 3kg this month!

All are welcome whether you are a regular, newbie, lurker, returning member... all I ask for is the amazing positivity and encouragement I have seen on every thread so far. You guys have been incredible!

I am following ww blue plan and very low carbing. There's a good mix of different methods on here though :)

Previous thread here is anyone wants to look back: Lose 7lbs/3kg per month! The February edition! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3810787-lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month-the-february-edition

My stats are:
Starting weight (Dec 18) 25st 2lbs
Current weight: 18st 4lbs
Loss so far: 6st 12lbs
Loss for Feb: 6lbs (just missed target 😢)
Target for March: 10lbs so 17st 8lbs

We can do this people!!! Who's with me???

@cricketmum84 I think moving closer down to any boundary on that chart is a massive achievement, even if it doesn’t always feel like it. You must have been so dedicated to achieve that loss you already have and I bet it will feel really sweet when you slip over that boundary and start to move down a little closer towards overweight Flowers

Newyearnewarse · 04/03/2020 08:04

I've just had a look at the bmi chart and it is bloody depressing. I still have over a stone to go before I am overweight.
I made a sweet potato chilli a couple of day ago that needs eating so that will be lunch and dinner today.
I am going to go to the gym today and try and improve on my pathetic effort on monday.
I am away with friends this weekend and I am already worrying about it.
There will be booze , food and fry ups to conquer.

TheOnlyMrsW · 04/03/2020 08:40

Morning all, thanks for the sparkling water ideas @cricketmum84 I'd never thought of a Soda Stream so may try although for now I think I'll just pull up my big girl pants and persevere with still and herbal tea. Yesterday was a wfh day and I tend to be worse food-wise on these as there's more temptation around, brunch ham & cheese toastie, dinner chicken, lentil & tomato curry with a small glass of wine. Managed 6 cups of herbal tea and a cup of coffee as well............today am in the office so should be a bit better. Two cups of peppermint tea so far, yoghurt and granola for breakfast, errands at lunch so will be a quick salad and chilli planned for dinner along with the dreaded gym first!

TheOnlyMrsW · 04/03/2020 08:43

@KedsAndTubeSocks I might need to have more options for my herbal tea than just peppermint!!!!!

SconNotScone · 04/03/2020 09:06

Morning all. Everyone seems to be very good at planning their food for the day, I’m rubbish at this! Which means at lunch time (if I’m not at work) I go to the fridge and end up having a picky lunch, which usually ends up being a few more calories than it ought to be! So I’ll try and be a bit more organised.
Breakfast today was 0% Greek yoghurt with pineapple (frozen, then blasted in the microwave so it was warm and juicy), strawberries and a little sprinkling of mixed nuts (210 cals).
Lunch will be an Itsu rice noodle/broth posh pot noodle! That is 210cals, and I will add a boiled egg (70cals), and possibly a bit of shredded chicken breast (80ish cals).
Dinner will be chicken goujons, mini rosemary roasted potatoes (pre-done by Tesco, so easy to calorie check!) and veg, which will be under 500cals.
This gives a bit of wriggle room to stay under 1200 for the day, including some cups of tea!

Off to the gym for a weights class and then a bit of cardio, not really feeling it, but my gym gear is on, so I’d better go!

Onesmallstep67 · 04/03/2020 09:41

Morning everyone. 15st 4lbs this morning, doing my usual bobbling along but monitoring my food hasn't been my number 1 priority in the last few days. Time to get back on it though. Late morning/lunchtime is my time of greatest weakness. If I am out or busy I find that I am not really tempted by biscuits etc but if I am home and my mind wanders to what's in the cupboard then it's fatal. I end up consuming rubbish and then feel a sense of failure and oh well that's messed up the day ( and add a few more extras which I really don't need )
So going to try to go for my walk late morning.

Morning all. Currently sitting on a West Coast train down to London, staying over tonight. Breakfast was overnight oats, eaten in the car once I had parked at the station.
Lunch might be a Subway tuna salad, or I may treat myself to a Pret tuna sandwich as I'm weighing in first thing tomorrow morning in the City of London (normally WI in my village workshop but if I'm in London for work handily there is one just opposite my office).
Not sure about Dinner yet. Last week I was in London for two nights and I went to Pizza Express for their leggera Veniziana pizza one night and Wagamama for the cod miso ramen the next. Both amazing and relatively low in points. But I want something different tonight Hmm

@TheOnlyMrsW I'm a homeworker with travel and I actually find it easier to manage what I eat when I'm at home in the daytime because I can make better lunches. But the snacking temptation is always there!

Hope you all have great days!

JessJonesJumps · 04/03/2020 12:08

Sorry for bringing BMI on the thread. I know it's nonsense but my health app automatically calculates it when I put in my weight and works down the colours from the NHS charts so red, orange,...actually I don't know the healthy BMI colour Blush
I'm down a pound today and made it into overweight. Apart from my three spoons of ice cream and a mini chocolate yesterday, I haven't been snacking as much, I think the new painkillers are partly responsible. Nothing tastes right.

MotherOfDragonite · 04/03/2020 12:31

I had a really bad week.

Technically I think I can say I lost 0.2lb but basically I stayed the same and I'm not counting it as a loss. Not my finest moment as in the last two days I undid all the good work of the five previous days (I would have been on track to lose 1.5lb).

Anyway, today is a new day, and this is the start of a new week.

The plan:

B: boiled egg on a bagel with Tabasco sauce
L: vegetable soup
D: not sure. I really need to pull my finger out and get motivated to make nice family meals that the kids will eat and which are healthy for me too.

I guess that's my question. What shall I make for two fussy children (2.5 and 6.5) who are vegetarian and not keen on interesting flavours? But also tasty for me? (I've done pasta with various veg and salad for three days running now and I need to get out of that rut!)

WingDefence · 04/03/2020 12:52

Got weighed in this lunchtime instead of first thing tomorrow and I lost 0.5lb. Bit disappointed but that’s 10lb in total and heading in the right direction.

cricketmum84 · 04/03/2020 13:39

@SconNotScone I meal plan a week in advance and try plan for lunches too but I sometimes change things up if my plans change.

This morning I ended up having to work from home so ended up having breakfast although it was 0 points - plum tomatoes and a poached egg. Then because I wasn't at work to pick up the mushroom soup I've had little gem lettuce topped with egg mayo.

@MotherOfDragonite I'm feeling a bit like that too. Had my lovely healthy curry and then DH had homemade chips leftover...

Re veggie meals... can you start adding the more interesting flavours but in small amounts to get them used to it? Something like a vegetable Thai curry but do a portion with a small amount of curry paste and more coconut milk and a portion a bit stronger for you?

My veggie is quite a bit older than yours and a bit more adventurous but her current favourites are:
Onion soup with cheesy toast
Chilli/bolognaise with plant based mince and lentils
Thai veg curry
Rich tomatoey lentil shepherds pie topped with celeriac mash
French bread pizzas - added bonus of them making their own
Any sort of Chinese/Japanese inspired noodle soup
Macaroni cheese
Broccoli cheese
Bbq jackfruit

@WingDefence my weight fluctuates massively throughout the day.
Mother how about making a bland meal which you can cover in tasty sauce? Veggie fajitas without too much seasoning, plus extra salsa. Soured cream for DC, guacamole for you. Non-spicy bean chilli plus chilli sauce for you. Or veggie stir-fry with chilli oil and limes. Sorry I'm not vegetarian so I may have missed out protein or something!

Tryingtwo · 04/03/2020 13:43

Good afternoon all, lovely update vebrithien, congrats for getting into the overweight category JessJonesJumps - that is my target for this month but I've got 7.8 lbs to go.
Weighed in this morning at 12st 10.8lbs which is down 0.8lbs from last week but up 0.4lbs from the 1st of the month.

Congrats @JessJonesJumps Star

I looked and I need to lose just over 2 stone to be just overweight Sad haha. On a positive note, I have now lost 1 and a half stone.

Following the advice of a fellow dieter, I looked at %'s instead and I have now lost 10% of my start weight 😁 I will take any victory.

JessJonesJumps · 04/03/2020 14:42

GetTheStarty 10% is brilliant!
This is always the part where I stall and lose heart so I'm celebrating every tiny success (no matter how short-lived it may end up being) Grin

TheOnlyMrsW · 04/03/2020 16:15

Woohoo managed 3 litres of water today, I've bought a 1l bottle to go on my desk and not having to fill up too often seems to have done the trick! Having a negative impact on my productivity though as I seem to have spent all afternoon backwards and forwards to the bathroom!

Onesmallstep67 · 04/03/2020 17:23

Well BMI wise I am obese as I am only 5ft 3in. BUT I calculated my % weight loss and I am a tiny smidgen under 20% of my original weight lost and today that feels like an achievement I can feel proud of. Still not succeeding with being good and avoiding the sweet snacks. Think I need a new way to attack this. I have actually only lost 7 lbs in 3 months. December no loss, 7 down in January ( mostly due to emotional stress I wouldn't want to experience again ) and no loss in February. I clearly need to give myself a good talking to. Hopefully with the better weather Hmm I will get back on it !

recklessgran · 04/03/2020 17:40

Afternoon all. Sorry I've been a bit MIA. Survived the carvery with no offences - no Yorkshires or roast potatoes were consumed and I had a black coffee whilst DH enjoyed his dessert. Theatre was great so all in all we had a really good [rare] night out. Today I have had a snack of a slice of cheese and half a dozen walnuts and 2 scrambled eggs. Tonight I'm having tuna mayo salad. I haven't drunk enough water but have been very distracted by work today. Really must do better and I'm another one that needs to give themselves a talking to.

fractionated · 04/03/2020 17:43

Well done everyone for your wins today, even if things aren't perfect. It's so hard to keep going that we need to praise ourselves for the good bits! I have managed to cut down the amount of snacks I am eating which feels like a win. I'm only going to weigh myself once a week so I'll have to wait to see if it has helped!

Kolo · 04/03/2020 19:31

Just worked out my bmi and I'm obese too Grin. Good to know.

I meal plan every week but then things tend to derail me from the plan. Either I eat more than is on the plan, or I'm way too tired when I get home from work to start cooking so reach for crap or takeaways.

So this week I've gone for a new plan. I'm not necessarily having family meals. The stuff the kids like isn't necessarily best for me. And I'm trying to take choice and chance/circumstance out of the equation a bit. It's probably really boring, but I've planned for almost the same breakfast, lunch and dinner for myself for the whole week.

Breakfast - oats (with different fruits/coconut/peanut butter to mix it up)
Lunch - bagel (with different fillings, today I had scrambled egg, yesterday cheese and tomato)
Dinner - batch cooked a load of roast veg and penne.

Got some different meals for the weekend with the family, this is just for weekdays.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 04/03/2020 19:51

Genuine question, Jess why is BMI nonsense? I've seen this before but never asked the reasoning behind this thought. And if it is nonsense, how do you chose a target weight? What other objective measure is there?

JessJonesJumps · 04/03/2020 20:01

Keds it's a bit contentious and some places do still use it. But iirc some sections thought BMI was a very broad brush considering the different body shapes, etc that could fit in different bands so they suggest a waist:hip ratio instead because where you carry the weight is more of an indicator of health risk.

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 20:10

@KedsAndTubeSocks the guy who proved you can reverse type 2 by losing weight is quite interesting on bmi. He is called Prof Roy Taylor and it’s his book I’ve read.

He makes the point that to reverse diabetes you need to lose 15kg - this worked for the vast majority of people in his study. If you have pre-diabetes, as I suspect dp did you need to should lose 10% of your body weight.

For some of his patients they lost quite a lot of weight- the 15kg but were still in the same bmi group eg he talks about “Jack” who lost 15kg and went from BMI 38 to 35. He was obese to start and obese at the end but that weight loss was enough to reverse his type 2 so he was diabetes free.

Basically a significant weight gain is hugely good for your health and a massive achievement even if you haven’t yet moved bmi bands
