I'm still in holiday mode so starting with small steps, trying to get my 5 a day in, reducing snacking and tracking everything. Will still have a port or 2 before bed though. I will start properly on Monday but hoping this will ease me into it. I also have a yoga class booked on Saturday.

bluepixie · 02/01/2020 11:03

Well I failed yest and ate everything I sight
On it today! But didn’t weigh this am. Hoping I’m still on 11 with 3 to loose to get back to pre Xmas weight

B - yoghurt
Lunch - chicken and sprouts
Dinner - fish and broccoli
Lots of coffee and water to get me through work! Told dh to hide all mince pies!

bluepixie · 02/01/2020 11:06

Tryingtwo I keep my cals 1000-1200 as I don’t loose much otherwise...I find if I eat 1500 I maintain / gain. So I have to keep it lower.

Fizzypoo · 02/01/2020 11:16

Can I join in too!

13 stone. Never been this heavy before, I'm normally around 11 to 12.

Have a new Fitbit and I'm logging calories.

Goal this month is to log calories, walk 10k steps a day and do dry January to kick start healthiness and weight loss.

Tryingtwo · 02/01/2020 11:18

Woolly I would love to have your before figure let alone your current one! You look amazing.

Egghead68 · 02/01/2020 11:41

Looking great @WoollyFoolly!

beforeIhit30 · 02/01/2020 11:53

@Piixxiiee welcome! Why do you think keto isn’t advised for underactive thyroid? Genuine question, not trying to push you towards it! I also have hypothyroidism and keto was recommended to me for this reason and has been brilliant - I don’t do it just for weight loss, it has improved my symptoms (despite medication, I’m one of the many that still experiences symptoms like cold, tiredness, muscle ache, brittle nails etc, just not as bad as pre-medication).

I have read articles about keto and the thyroid but there was a lot of variability about the extent to which the diet may or may not affect thyroid production, whereas I’ve also come across a number of people with hypothyroidism who found keto to be really beneficial. I started low carb high fat but have ended up keto, but I’m not actually worried/focused on being keto (basically 5% carbs vs 12% carbs), that’s just how my eating has turned out at the moment. I did very well with LCHF initially too (both in terms of weight and symptoms).

Piixxiiee · 02/01/2020 12:38

7Worfs thanks that might be good to look at. I'm lucky as dh doesnt snack... just me!

beforeIhit30 I put a thread on about it here and a few people commented and I looked it up but seems carbs are needed to change T3 to T4 which is what your body needs.?.. but there is conflicting advise so I'm not sure! Good to hear it worked for you- I think I'll do low carb and see how I go- I love carbs a d rely on potatoes and pasta a d rice alot so I'll cut them out of evening meal. I'll have porridge in morning though as I've no time to make eggs etc and nothing else keeps me full.

KnucklesMcGinty · 02/01/2020 12:39

I have a question about fasting; how strict are you? My non-fasting window is midday - 6pm. I'm quite happy drinking herbal tea first thing, but by 10 or 11 I need a proper cuppa with caffeine & milk! Does this ruin the whole fast? Or am I okay with a few cups of tea?

sophieg345 · 02/01/2020 12:45

Hi, new around here Smile

i have started calorie counting today (1400)
got a hell of a lot to lose Blush

SW- 277lb
jan goal- 270
final goal- 140 (lonnnnng way off yet. im giving myself 18 months)

WoollyFoolly · 02/01/2020 13:04

@KnucklesMcGinty, I'm not strict with fasting. I don't eat anything but I drink tea with milk throughout. I usually eat something small at about 11am, lunch at 1ish, tea at 6:30ish. If I go over slightly I don't worry too much.

Thanks for the lovely comments guys, I've been feeling a bit low since Christmas so that's cheered me up. 😌

JessJonesJumps · 02/01/2020 13:11

Hi All, I'd like to join. I had an accident in 2018 which has affected my mobility and my weight has crept up and up and up. In the past I've lost with Rosemary Conley (my baby weight) then did Fast 800 and lost again. I like the structure of following a plan. I'm looking at WW and SW this time. Any recommendations?

SW: 13.7.8
Jan goal: 13.0.0
Final goal: 10.7

BloodyCats · 02/01/2020 13:18

Can I join?

Start weight: 70kg
I got down to 62kg but over birthday and Christmas it’s creeped up to 65kg.
Goal weight: 60kg and maintain.

I’m going to be exercising and calorie counting with the odd fast day thrown in.

7Worfs · 02/01/2020 13:39

@KnucklesMcGinty I am strict, only drink water and black coffee in fasting window.

I’ve read different things about milk in drinks, so I’m not sure if it breaks the fast.

recklessgran · 02/01/2020 16:25

@Piixxiiee*,*@7Worfs and @beforeIhit30 I am also medicated hypothyroid so it's good to know that there are others in the same boat! I have just started Keto. I'm afraid I've tried several other diets and struggled all last year with the same stone and not a great deal of success. I adore bread and toast and marmite in particular so Keto is the way to go in my case - no carbs will probably work better for me as I am very much an all or nothing kinda girl. One slice of toast leads to another...and another if you know what I mean. My desperation has made me look carefully at the Keto diet and I decided to give it a go.
I started on Monday at 14st 3.75lbs and I'm down to 13st 13.5 lbs already. I know it's only water but either way I 'm very encouraged as I feel O.K. and am very happy with the scales. I am well aware that the loss will slow right down but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to being chuffed so far. It's a bonus that I don't feel hungry.
@WoollyFoolly you look sensational! Well done you - I'm hoping I get there one of these days.
Waving to QueenOfOversharing how you doing?

Vebrithien · 02/01/2020 17:14

I found you all!!

A little late, but starting the year on 90.4kg (200g gain for all of December, think I can manage that!)

I am just over 20kg down from April, and have moved from the morbidly obese to the just overweight BMI category.

And in even better news, another scan today with the consultant, showed a healthy heartbeat, good growth and a wriggly, 10 week old foetus. So I'm over the moon!
I've got fortnightly scans until mid February, which is a relief, but this is the furthest I've got since my DD, 4 years ago. Horrible though the two losses were last year, they really were the kick up the bum I needed to start living more healthily.
Thank-you for all the support you've given on these threads, since I joined in June. I'm probably going to just try to maintain, or lose very slowly now (I lost about 5 kg when pregnant with DD), but I'll keep lurking and posting occasionally.
Flowers for all phew, that was long

QueenOfOversharing · 02/01/2020 17:19

Hi @recklessgran - waving - I'm ok, but depression really bad today - probably the idea of not ingesting trifle every meal! I went to Waitrose & I was almost in tears looking at things I wanted to buy. But I got home with healthy stuff! Except the Celebrations which were on offer (that's the law round here) 😂

Re keto - I started before Xmas & got into ketosis really quickly - I just got back into too much carbs! Those, plus the high fat was a disaster. I'm going to cut my carbs as much as I can, but for now, my baby steps are cutting down how much I'm eating & keep an eye on calories - I struggle with portion size, so cutting portions down will help me initially.

I've done shit with fasting - I can't resist coffee with milk first thing! I read that milk breaks the fast, so I don't think I'm doing that well. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Today's food has been weird, but ok thus far.

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: rice & peas and chilli (tiny portion)
Dinner will be: prob a chicken breast seasoned with lime & ginger and salad.
Snacks: mini Kallo chocolate & coconut rice cakes.

Anyone else struggle when their mood is low?

QueenOfOversharing · 02/01/2020 17:22

@Vebrithien firstly huge congratulations on your news - hoping everything goes smoothly for you!!!

Secondly - incredible weight loss going from that level of BMI to just overweight.

Do you mind sharing how you managed it? I love hearing how everyone achieves such amazing losses!!

recklessgran · 02/01/2020 17:39

@QueenOfOversharing - I'm so sorry you're having a bad day and yes I completely get the portion size thing. I'm using a smaller plate which helps as our dinner plates are huge. I think you've done really well to get out of Waitrose with healthy food [despite the Celebrations.] Well done on ignoring all the other stuff. That's still progress you know - baby steps and all that. I'm having chicken salad too and might have a chunk of cheese as well to stop me from feeling hungry later. I've made some sugar free jelly which I'm going to have after that so I can imagine that I've had a proper pudding.Would that work for you in place of the trifle? [Only about 10 cals I think] I'm just hoping that I can keep this up as it's not too bad so far despite the fact that I'm surrounded by leftover Christmas chocs/cheeselets/nuts/dates and God knows what else. DH will have to crack on with eating them up or I'm going to have to give them away!

QueenOfOversharing · 02/01/2020 17:50

@recklessgran sugar free jelly sounds good. You've reminded me - on Body Coach we could make this dessert that was sugar free jelly, add a bit less water, leave it to start setting. When it's cold, but not set, whip in 0% fat Greek yoghurt. Then leave to set. It's delicious.

QueenOfOversharing · 02/01/2020 17:56

@recklessgran I've tasked DS with the Butterkist toffee popcorn, much to his delight!

You're right, it's good just making these changes. I normally jump in 100% but can't sustain it - this way I'm hoping I trick myself into accepting the changes as I go. I'm sure that's a very scientific way of proceeding! 😂

7Worfs · 02/01/2020 18:01

Hey Veb!
If you are planning on breastfeeding, 3-4 months in the weight really starts to fall off if combined with a good regime. Smile

beforeIhit30 · 02/01/2020 18:19

I understand @Piixxiiee there really is a lot of conflicting info out there, on pretty much everything food and diet related. I started out still having sweet potato, corn and oats when I went lower carb as I’ve always tolerated them well. Gradually over time they went but not forcing myself, just my tastes and needs changed with being lower carb.

@recklessgran I know what you mean, if I have something like toast or crumpets I want lots. Starchy carbs and sugar beget more of the same for me - I just crave it, and then feel rubbish too. It’s much easier and better just not to have it in the first place as I don’t miss it at all when not eating it.

Thinking of upping my carbs, I’ve mentioned in passing that I’ve inadvertently become keto - which is fine and I feel well - however it wasn’t my intention! I’m usually low carb high fat, main difference being having a few more carbs (eg 40g per day instead of 20g). It is still a very low carb diet, but it means I can have much more dairy and veg which I personally feel is beneficial for me. For dinner I made a stuffed raw pepper, saw them online (as pepper sandwiches) because people were saying how ridiculous it was, and I thought, “Ooh, I like that idea” Grin so stuffed it with full fat cottage cheese, smashed avocado (from M&S), sliced tomato, and chicken (sautéed in olive oil). It was really tasty! A bit like a cross between a burger and a burrito in terms of experience and flavour. I made two halves, I didn’t try to eat it all together like a sandwich, that just looked complicated.

Onesmallstep67 · 02/01/2020 19:43

@Vebrithien, that is completely the best new year's update that I have read. A wonderful start to what will be an extra special year. Flowers
