Lose lbs in September

Following on from the previous monthly loss threads, here’s Septembers. I’ve omitted goal specifics of a certain number of lbs because as we’ve seen we are losing at different rates.

The support I’ve seen on these threads (and personally benefitted from 🙏) is awesome. I’ve not once seen any unkind or harsh posts. You’ve all been awesome 👏.

Link to August’s Thread

I will continue to:-

  • follow a low carb Mediterranean diet as advocated by Dr Michael Mosley. It’s great for your heart health as well as keeping blood sugars in check.
  • Intermittent Fast IF
  • Calorie Count
  • Eat Mindfully and address emotional blocks as and when they arise.
  • Meal Planning
  • Use a tracker such as MFP.
  • Mantra is I’m not on a diet, nothing is banned, I do sustainable healthy eating.

How do you intend to lose/maintain?

Any tips you’d like to share?

I am in too. Getting married on 01/02/2020 and am currently 10st 7lbs, my aim is 1 stone off. I have hit 42 and am finding it soooo much harder to shift any weight at all. I already run 3 times per week but my diet isnt so good. Time to buckle down I think.

OokSaidTheLibrarian · 29/08/2019 09:46

I'd like to join please. I lost almost a stone last year but have stagnated and need to get back on it. I would love to be under 12st by Christmas (so thats 9lbs to loose) but have about 2 stone to go in total. I am trying 16:8 but wondered if anyone had a good guide for it, not sure how many calories I should be aiming for in a day. Will also use mfp to track.

Hiphopopotamus · 29/08/2019 16:07

@SunshineCake I can’t find your post on the August thread - what are you stuck with?

SunshineCake · 29/08/2019 16:57

Hi @Hiphopopotamus I don't know if I can cut and paste the photo so it was Wednesdays post at 19:31. Thank you.

thisonebreath · 29/08/2019 19:23

Oh bloody hell! 11st 10! I want to get to 10 stone then I'll reassess. The irony is that I've been underweight for most of my adult life...so must have passed through a good weight and missed it. 😆

cheesenpickles · 29/08/2019 21:26

Hey everybody, so back on the IF/keto train today and did a 23 hour fast and 8gs of carbs (from avocado/leafy greens) so chuffed with that. Also made some "keto crackers" where basically you just bake slices of Edam. Doubt I'll drop back to where I was overnight but feeling more in control now that all the frivolities are our of the way. Also ordered a cheapish belt in a medium to keep my older pairs of jeans going for a while.

Hope everybody had a good day!

SunshineCake · 29/08/2019 22:11

I have had a drink of coke tonight. Full fat. Have practically given it up as it's not great and have maybe one a Month. Ever since, I've had stomach pains and loss of tummy grumbles and wind. Can't help thinking it is because of having sugar for the first time in four days. Can't have Coke Zero as I am intolerant to aspartame. So coke, no more for me. If I'm up tomorrow I'm blaming the fizzy stuff!

Prisonbreak · 29/08/2019 22:27

6lbs off for me in August taking my loss to 4 stone 4lbs. Hoping for the same in September! Well done everyone

Praiseyou · 29/08/2019 23:42

I'd like to join please.

I have a huge sugar problem.

I can't do moderation - one treat leads to a week of bingeing so the aim for September is 3 meals a day, no snacks, 1200 calories a day.

lpchill · 29/08/2019 23:59

If I can join too please.

I'm currently 84.4kg ( finding kg easier to work with) heaviest this year was 91.3kg aiming to get eventually to around 60-70kg mark so a way to go but I'm getting there slowly.

I'm calorie counting aiming to be eating 1200 calories daily. Not including exercise calories as I'm taking tablets that caused a lot of weight gain and I've found if I eat my exercise calories I'm still gaining!!

I'm also trying to at least daily do speed walking the dog 15minutes and at least 7 minutes of Lucy double barrelled surname I've forgotten work outs with weights to increase the impact. I have very bad knees so have to adapt the exercises when she does too many squats.

BustedDreams · 30/08/2019 06:46

Good Morning 😊

@prettygreenteacup @Laura221*@thisonebreath @Knitclubchatter* @boredboredboredboredbored @OokSaidTheLibrarian @Prisonbreak @Praiseyou @lpchill great to have you join us. Great thread, fab support, no judgement, a safe place to share your successes as well as rant or moan about your not so good days.

I’m imagining what I could look like/achieve by Monday September 30th. I like to focus on my waistbands being looser, my shirt buttons not straining (recent progress has seen my top size reduce from a firm 16 to a 12-14 depending on cut and my bottom size from a 12 to a 10) To be honest I don’t think my top size will reduce much more as I have naturally huge boobies. My bottom half is ok as it is really. It’s my mid section that needs to lose the podge. Smaller waist size would be great!

@Ipchill that sounds like a plan! I walk my dogs daily too, it all helps!

@cheesenpickles well done 👍. Low carb definitely helps reduce the bloat etc. I reduce carbs but not to the point I wouldn’t be able to have some brown rice for example.

@boredboredboredboredbored Congratulations on your planned Wedding 👰🏼 You could definitely reach your goal of a stone off by then!

@OokSaidTheLibrarian purists would argue that with 16:8 you don’t count calories. That just by eating in the 8 hour window only your food intake would automatically be less. However, from my own experience that doesn’t work for me. I combine 17:7 (slightly smaller window) with calories counting and a mainly Mediterranean diet, little to no alcohol. In regards to finding your own calorie count, use an online calculator to work out your TDEE then eat about 500 calories a day below that if you’re wanting to lose about a 1lb a week. Good luck!

@SunshineCake I hope you’re still not suffering from the Coke!

List 3.5lbs in August, which was not great, but better than a gain I guess?

Currently 10st 10.6 and aiming to continue with 5:2 roughly, maybe stepping up to 4:3 if I have the willpower.

Have decided to buy the lighter life fasting stuff for the fast days as figured on those days I just eat that and not 'proper' food so I find it easier to moderate.

Would love to get down to 9st 12pbs but at close to 50 I am finding things tougher!

Good luck to all xx

cheesenpickles · 30/08/2019 07:05

Jumped on the scales this morning not particularly hopefully and found I've stopped 2.b overnight so was hanging onto water weight for sure. Still a couple of lbs off what my lowest was last week but full expect to claw that back. Takes my current weight loss for September to 6.2lbs which I'm happy with (though would love to make it at even 7 in the next day but unlikely!)

As it starts to get cooler, this is where I struggle. I get SAD very badly but never realise it's SAD till summer returns. I'm going to get a Lumee light and toying with St Johns Wort. When I get down in the dumps it's so easy to just say "ahhh whatever" and eat 6 Kit Kats.

I've made a big dent in getting rid of clothes but now getting to the point where I'm losing interest/patience selling them so might just start donating everything no to get the bigger sized clothes out the house. Hope everybody has a good day Smile

cheesenpickles · 30/08/2019 07:06

2.3lb*

SunshineCake · 30/08/2019 07:10

Morning all Smile.

Just written a job list for today so going to be busy if it get all done.

BustedDreams I was shown the error of my ways this morning but thankfully not in a painful way and I'll pour away the rest of the coke I didn't drink overnight. This morning I thought, I'll have it as I'm down but thought, no, chuck it. I also tried some new sugar free cola bottles yesterday and while they were lovely I think I may have reacted to those too.

I am 1.6lbs down since yesterday which is 5.8lbs down for August which I am amazed at, given my rubbish ness at the the beginning. I still don't understand how I can lose that much in a day but I'm being thick clearly, as it's obviously because I'm am coming in under my calorie limit plus exercising on the bike which is new to go with the walking the dog.

SunshineCake · 30/08/2019 07:12

Definitely a win @nodtik.. Well done.

Great progress @cheesenpickles.

ChipInTheSugar · 30/08/2019 07:12

Hi, can I join you lovely lot?

Started MM Fast 800 on Monday - 3 meals a day in a ten hour window - 800 cals in total (or thereabouts!) I didnt weigh myself before Monday; Tues a.m. weight was 93.7kg. I'm looking to lose 20kg.

OokSaidTheLibrarian · 30/08/2019 07:20

Thanks BustedDreams, just worked out my TDEE, so 1200 a day is about right for me. Just got to find some willpower now

Enb76 · 30/08/2019 07:26

Can I join? I virtually joined in August but didn’t post. I am not on a diet, I’m just making better choices. At the beginning of August I was 11st 9, I’m now 11st 3 through a combination of cardio, cycling to work, MFP of 1500 p/d. I’m 5’8” so aiming for 10st 5 as a reasonable weight.

Now I’m in my mid 40’s I tend to put on a pound for every biscuit I look at and require near starvation to lose it.

Cary2012 · 30/08/2019 07:40

@cheesenoickles, belated birthday wishes. Hi to all the newbies, hope you find this thread as supportive as I found last months. Am finishing August with a 7.5lb loss. @SunshineCake, I know fizzy drinks hit the spot sometimes, but they aren't worth it, too gassy and cause bloating. I love a Pepsi Max sometimes, but always suffer for it. Still sticking to the 1200 cals a day, but have let the carbs creep up this week. Only healthy ones, but too many. It's because I find them comforting. Feel heavy though, so am going to reduce them back to one small amount a day. Have a great day all!

Cary2012 · 30/08/2019 07:41

@cheesenpickles, not oickles!

prettygreenteacup · 30/08/2019 07:48

Last time I weighed 2 weeks ago was 10 stone 10, today I'm 10 stone 6 Grin

cheesenpickles · 30/08/2019 07:54

Lol! For those looking for a fizzy drink alternative, I used to drink 2l of full fat coke a day so know the bind. Tried a can of Nix and Kix at Wagamama this week and it was amazing. A little carbs but no added sugar and sub 50 calories. I had the mango one and dh had the cucumber but really felt like a good alternative to traditional fizzy drinks.

IamHyouweegobshite · 30/08/2019 07:55

Hi, I've just got back from a 2 week holiday, swam every day, and didn't eat too much rubbish, but I've gained 2lbs. I'm determined to lose this month, I'm going to measure every where, I'm going to make a massive effort to exercise. Back to work on Monday and I'll put my fitbit back on.

ChipsAreLife · 30/08/2019 07:58

Hello, can I join please? I'm trying to lose a good 9lbs by mid November when I go away but have quite a lot in between so need to be really strict when I can. @nodtik I'm exactly the same weight today!

My plan is 16:8 although I can do 20:4 if the kids get to bed on time and I'm busy enough. Sticking to 1300 calories a day, at least 30 mins exercise each day and 10,000 steps. My downfall will be a few social occasions and a work trip abroad for three days where the food is truly shite and there is no choice.

Good luck everyone
