Link to previous month here: Half a stone (or 3kg) for July http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3624800-half-a-stone-or-3kg-for-july

Hello everyone! Old timers, newbies, lurkers and anyone I've missed and welcome to the Half a stone challenge for August!

Everyone welcome regardless of what diet or exercise plan you are following.

All I ask is positivity and support for all of us (and someone to follow me around and steer me away from the Greggs vegan rolls please).

I'm currently on holiday until Saturday so will weigh in then and let you all know the damage as my starting weight for August.

Much love x

checking in ready for tomorrow. My aim for August is to get below 13st.

Snowdrop30 · 31/07/2019 07:23

I've done it! 16:8 bloody works.

Millie2018 · 31/07/2019 07:24

Checking in too. Going to spend today thinking about what I want from August. I need to refocus on exercise after a very unproductive 2 weeks.

Howlongtillbedtime · 31/07/2019 07:27

Morning all. I am skulking back in after a failure of a July.
I blame end of term nonsense and generally being knackered.

Will weigh in tomorrow and face the music.
June went really well so I know I can do it. Just need to get motivated again.

violetmartini · 31/07/2019 07:29

Do you mind if I join? Long time lurker but lurking doesn't seem to be working for me so it's time I made myself accountable. Starting weight 10st 9.5 and I plan on using MFP. My youngest is 1 this month and this isn't baby weight any more, it's a result of my terrible sugar addiction which I need to curb desperately!

DramaRamaLlama · 31/07/2019 07:35

Hi all - I'm joining for August.

This is one area of my life I just can't get to grips with. I need to lose a good 2.5 stone.

None of my current clothes fit and I'm fed up with buying cheap stuff as a "stop gap" before I slim down.

I will calorie count - seems to be only thing that works for me.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 31/07/2019 07:51

I’m joining. I’ve already lost 12lbs and this morning weighed in at 10stone 10 finally taking me to a healthy BMI! I’d like to see if eating as I’m eating now can take me down another half stone as I’m quite happy with the changes I have made; smaller portions, low alcohol,1 small snack and lots of veg. I’m also much more active.

toweanornottowean · 31/07/2019 08:06

Can I join please? I am 6 months post partum and have lost all my baby weight through hard graft, but my figure just isn't the same. I think I need to lose another half stone and tone up massively and I need motivation!!

Currently at around 10 stone but would love to be 9 and a half...not sure if I will ever get there..

Ihatesundays · 31/07/2019 08:16

Starting the month at 77kg.
Still have my first original target of 76kg but overall my aim is to get under 70kg.

Any suggestions of how to get that to happen would be greatly appreciated, calorie counting not doing it.
I’ve been doing 20 minute intense workouts and walking and exercise bike. I think I might need to step it up, I can’t run though.

Hauskat · 31/07/2019 08:34

Place marking as I would like to join for August! I will weigh myself after DD is at nursery.

BrillyPribble · 31/07/2019 08:36

ihatesundays what about intermittent fasting? I do (roughly) 16:8 and it's been much easier than I was expecting. I read an article by Michael Mosley about how it works and it made so much sense. Basically it was to think about the food you eat daily as being energy in your body's fridge and the fat stored in your body as being energy in your body's freezer. If your body can access energy from the fridge, it does that as it's much easier. Its only when nothing is added to the fridge for a period of time that your body will start to access the stored energy in the freezer. Alternating between the feast (fed) and famine stages means your metabolism doesn't slow down as it often does if you just restrict calories.
I hope that makes sense, I'll see if I can find the proper description!

AntiHop · 31/07/2019 08:36

Hello
I'm going to try. I'm not going to weigh myself until the end of August. I hope I'm 78kg by then.

BrillyPribble · 31/07/2019 08:37

Oh also I think it said that weight loss is 80% driven by food and only 20% by exercise

Jaz994 · 31/07/2019 08:38

Hello,

Can I join Smile

Going back to slimming world (third time lucky??) on Saturday and would love to get half a stone off in August!

What other diets are people following?

lightlypoached · 31/07/2019 08:42

Crikey! So many posts already.

I'm on holiday in France (home of cheeeeeese!) from 3rd-18th August so am expecting slippage, but life is for living. At least I'll get daily yoga 🧘‍♂️ and swimming 🏊‍♀️to combat the worst of it.

I'm aiming for a couple of 16:8 days on hols - one of the friends we are with is doing it too.

Hattie78 · 31/07/2019 08:42

Hi
I'd like to join please. Was doing very well and 6 months ago I had lost 2 stone on mfp to get to goal but my slovenly ways over the last few months have led me to put 10lbs back on. V cross with myself but I've done it before so can do it again.
Might try the 16:8 combined with mfp.

3dogs2cats · 31/07/2019 08:51

Hi everyone .im back too. Almost lost 3k in July. Bad moment yesterday with chocolonely kyboshed that. On holiday for the first week, so the aim s to not do too much damage then.
Aim this month is to get below 100 k and never go back there.

everbloom · 31/07/2019 09:01

Hi! I'd really like to join, I struggle with discipline so much! My target weight is 10st 2 so I have around 18lbs to loose. If I could manage 3kgs this month it would really motivate me to keep going.

Can I ask- does anyone have any tips on staying on track when OH/family encourage you to "just have a glass of wine" or "just have a treat"? It's something that really gets to me!!

Thanks Smile

LooseAtTheSeams · 31/07/2019 09:06

Getting busy on here already! We're going on holiday for a week from Friday so I'm going to have to use some self control. I'm taking the yoga mat with me and a ton of good intentions...
Will report official August starting weight tomorrow!

Ihatesundays · 31/07/2019 09:10

@BrillyPribble how do you do it?
I need to have a normal meal in the evening with DH - so do I just not have breakfast?
Can I drink tea. If I can’t its no good for me Grin

I have been doing deficit diet, hence the exercise but it’s not working though.

LesLavandes · 31/07/2019 09:12

Hi. Can anyone tell me please if on 16:8 diet, if you can drink alcohol when not fasting. Thanks

sheshootssheimplores · 31/07/2019 09:17

I’ve lost 6lbs in the last two weeks going intermittent fasting and cutting out sugar. The weight is falling off!! Even I’m shocked as my scales rarely move.

I have a scale that plots all sorts of stats and I’m going to keep an eye on actual fat loss as I know it’s easy to just lose water weight in the early stages. I want to lose another half stone before September as I want to got into the other half of my clothes wardrobe again.

PeriComoToes · 31/07/2019 09:27

Checking in with a start weight of 192.2lbs(13st 10.2).

This is holiday month for me so I'm not going to be to be too hard on myself if I don't make the full 7lb target.

I need to lose 4.2lbs to take from out of the obese category and into the overweight category so if I can achieve that by the end of the month I'll be happy. I'll be calorie counting and aiming for 1200 a day on average but anything below my TDEE of around 1800 is positive as far as I'm concerned.

Got a BIG weekend coming up so not expecting any loss in week 1 bit will just get back on track as soon as possible.

Good luck for the month ahead everyone.

BrillyPribble · 31/07/2019 09:29

ihatesundays very simply, you don't eat for 16 hours out of 24, and eat within an 8 hour window.
I don't do 'clean' fasting, which would restrict you to just water or black tea/coffee in the 16 hours. I drink normal tea. I usually eat a normal evening meal by 7pm then aim to have a snack at 11am and lunch at 1pm ish. If I'm a bit earlier/later I don't worry too much about it, I use it as a rough guide.
I don't eat any low-fat or diet foods (fat is replaced with sugar usually), and aim to eat healthy fats daily (avocados, nuts, seeds, full fat Greek yoghurt). I limit carbs simply because I'm also tracking calories on MFP and they have LOADS but at the same time, I don't worry too much about it if I fancy something. I had half a pizza on Monday for example.
My aim is to make it a lifestyle change forever so I don't want to really strictly follow unsustainable rules.

Ihatesundays · 31/07/2019 09:42

@brillypribble what is your calorie limit? I usually have 1300 over 3 meals. So if I am only having 2 do I reduce it down?
I’d probably have to have lunch at 12 (or early?)and then dinner at 7 and that’s it. I never eat after dinner anyway.
I only have bran flakes in the morning so it’s the only thing I need to cut out to do it.

I’m going out for a big lunch today so won’t have any dinner anyway. So maybe today is the day I start.
