Link to previous month here: Half a stone (or 3kg) for July http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3624800-half-a-stone-or-3kg-for-july

Hello everyone! Old timers, newbies, lurkers and anyone I've missed and welcome to the Half a stone challenge for August!

Everyone welcome regardless of what diet or exercise plan you are following.

All I ask is positivity and support for all of us (and someone to follow me around and steer me away from the Greggs vegan rolls please).

I'm currently on holiday until Saturday so will weigh in then and let you all know the damage as my starting weight for August.

Much love x

Closing the kitchen. Went to my keep fit class, it was empty! Only 5 of us. Up close and personal! Eaten plenty of fruit today, stuck to plan with the exception of a packet of chocolate buttons. Meeting a friend for dinner tomorrow, but we have planned a walk first so hopefully it’ll all balance out at the end of the weekend.

Fluffiest · 04/08/2019 07:26

Yesterday was hard work for me, just felt exhausted all day. Couldn't face any exercise but did a good job of eating healthily all day until my lovely parents rang and offered to take me and DD out for fish and chips. Couldn't say no!

Either way, yesterday's 1lb gain has disappeared and I'm back to my starting point. I think I just need to concentrate on getting my energy back today and then starting exercise tomorrow.

OhTheRoses · 04/08/2019 07:53

Here you all are. Hello cricket
Well after a dire July (although it included my birthday, a holiday and a long weekend away with 2 parties and three dinners out) I lost ...............about 1.5lb in July.

Started in April and have lost 15lb. Need to do much better in August.

I hope you are all well and will try not to lose you this month.

August starting weight 12st10lb. Haven't been to ww for 4 weeks. Over the month it has been thereabouts somerimes 2lb up at 12.12 and one glirious day when it hit 12.8.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 04/08/2019 07:59

Parkrun was a bit of a fail for me yesterday! I went and DD insisted on starting with me despite me trying to get her to run on her own. I struggled from about the first 100m. Eventually I managed to persuade DD to just run ahead. I ran / walked for the first lap then cut across to cheer DD on and run part of the final half km with her. Although I didn't finish I was happy that I at least did something and that it gave me my starting point. I don't know whether to go again next week or try and run a bit more myself first.

I am off to Body Balance this morning which is my absolute favourite class so looking forward to that!

@Millie2017 I never like really small classes, nowhere to hide, though I suppose that should be a good thing!!

Glad your 1lb disappeared again @Fluffiest Smile

Millie2017 · 04/08/2019 08:18

@adventuretraveldreamer I probably wouldn’t have gone if I’d know! It was a big hall too...
Morning all
I’m up and out this morning. Having a long walk with a packed lunch and then dinner out after.
B. Wheat biscuits
L. Ham sandwich
D. Unsure... a salad of some description
Snacks. Plenty of fruit and a coffee or two.
Have a good day everyone.

Millie2017 · 04/08/2019 08:25

Just gave my DH a list of fruit I would like him to buy when he goes into town later. He asked if he can buy a box of our favourite chocolates as well. I said no! Sorry but I can’t have him sitting there eating chocolates next to me and then leaving an open box in the fridge. It’s just too hard!
At least I’m starting to appreciate where all these extra lbs have come from.

DuckWillow · 04/08/2019 08:49

I need to up my step count today as I’m too much of a couch potato.

Doing an average of 7000 a day thanks to accompanying my sister on early morning dog walks.

If it’s not a dog walk day I struggle to reach 5000!

BraveGoldie · 04/08/2019 08:58

Hello everybody,

Would it be ok if I join late? I lost 30lbs up to July last year, but over the last 12 months, 13lbs have crept back on. I am now 173lbs and feeling bad about losing much of my progress.

This is my first day of trying to change that. Would be lovely to be able to share.

The basic approach I am taking is some simple rules:

  1. no 'explicit sugar' (cakes, desserts, chocolate, sweets etc)
  2. No eating after 9pm
  3. 3 decent exercises a week.

Nice to meet everybody and good luck with your goals for today. Smile

LooseAtTheSeams · 04/08/2019 09:03

Millie good for you!
I'm impressed at anyone who does Parkrun - Adventure you'll be fine, sounds like you just went off too fast at the start.
Lots of lovely walks here so am hoping that's going to be beneficial - having no scales on holiday is a bit of a mixed blessing!

Ihatesundays · 04/08/2019 09:24

I lost 0.1 of a kilo today Grin

Dyrne · 04/08/2019 09:47

Ihatesundays that’s why I like measuring in metric rather than imperial - it’s nice to see the scales going down, even if only 100g! Grin

To be fair, 100g is the size of a large-ish dairy milk chocolate bar ( that I used to eat at least one a day ) so feel proud!

Adventure don’t feel bad about the Parkrun experience - you still ran further than everyone else at home on the couch!!

Brave good idea keeping it simple!

Lookingforpizza · 04/08/2019 13:08

A very sugary weekend as all I ate yesterday was cake, coffee, ice cream and then chicken and chorizo pasta for tea. Although we did do around 20k steps so was plenty active too.

Today won't be much better as DP and I have just done a 10k race and are now off for a roast complete with pudding. Ah well, think I've earned it and want to enjoy quality time with DP as he's away for a few weekends now.

Hoping to get back on track tomorrow but don't think the weekend has been a total disaster!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 04/08/2019 13:56

Oh I’m so dense, Laura of NHS Couch to 5K fame is very much still there, problem is she’s taking me back to first time I did it in 2014 as a way to distract myself from my crumbling 1st marriage

Any recommendations for an alternative guided program? Grin

cricketmum84 · 04/08/2019 19:26

Sorry for late update everyone. Had the most manic day. Landed at 1.15, home for 3, couldn't sleep so vacuumed at 4. Then up at 9 to pick up hamster, pick up cat, do a food shop, unpack, drop DS off with my sister for pride...

Haven't eaten since 4pm yesterday in Bulgaria! Just ordered a prawn curry from the Chinese.

Haven't remembered to weigh yet but I may leave it a couple of days as I have horrific water retention in my lower legs and ankles and (TMI) am horrendously constipated so I don't think they will give me an accurate idea of how much I have put on while away.

Back to normality tomorrow. Not in the least bit impressed!

Ihatesundays · 04/08/2019 21:06

I’m doing 8:16 diet and trying to stick to 1300 calories a day...
However I am bloody starving tonight Angry
I did wear a top today I haven’t worn in years and my trusty summer trousers are really baggy - I bought them when I was 8 kilos lighter and they were never that big.

Millie2017 · 04/08/2019 21:22

Closing the kitchen. Did a nice long walk today, don’t know the number of steps but the app I’m using said I burnt over 1000 calories.
Stuck to plan during the day eating plenty of fruit and then at dinner I had smoked salmon, cream cheese and sour dough bread starter for my main. My friend had a huge roast dinner with a Yorkshire pudding as big as my head. And a slice of red velvet cake for pudding, while I sipped a glass of water.
I need to see some results on the scales this week or I’m going to feel pretty cheated.

Dyrne · 04/08/2019 21:24

Paul Oh no! The programme is hard enough without that memory hanging over you! No advice on different apps i’m afraid. Maybe have a poke around the C25K reddit threads? Mostly Americans on there so you might get an idea of what they use: www.reddit.com/r/c25k

Otherwise, would listening to one of the other trainers on the NHS app help?

cricket I hate that feeling of “back to normality tomorrow” you get once back from a holiday. Good call not weighing in immediately, no need to demotivate yourself with all the heat/travel water retention! You’ve done so well eating some really healthy sounding things and avoiding too many desserts so I’m sure you’ve done admirably!

Seashell80 · 04/08/2019 21:32

Bit late to the party, but I'd like to join in too! Started July at 17st 2lbs and managed to lose a whole stone by using MFP, more fruit and veg, little to no snacking and almost no alcohol! I don't expect to have the same level of loss for August so am checking in here to keep my motivation going. Had a wedding on Friday and drank quite a lot, and past two days have not eaten as well as a result☹️however as of tomorrow I'm back in the game!

Ionacat · 04/08/2019 21:51

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut I used the fitness 22 couch to 5k and am currently using C25K 10k trainer to get me to 10k, they also do a couch to 5k one and both use your own music.

I really struggled today but managed to stave off a chocolate craving by doing a 7 minute Hiit workout and having a bath. I had a bit of a wake up call, as despite being a healthy weight my waist size is anything but, so I am going to do this.

BraveGoldie · 04/08/2019 23:46

Well done Millie and Ionacat for those great decisions!

I am off to bed, having resisted night time grazing.... also squeezed in a run today - just 3 km but just getting moving is a victory for now.,..

Goodnight everybody! Smile

cricketmum84 · 05/08/2019 06:28

Morning all and welcome to ❤️Day 5 ❤️

The scales this morning are showing a 5lb gain for my 2 week holiday. That will hopefully come off pretty quickly though as I still have some of the water retention going on. Hopefully that will settle in the next couple of days.

Starting weight for August is 20st 13. Would be good to get closer to 20st, I'm desperate to be in the 19s!!

Plan for today is:
B - watermelon
L - tomato and cucumber salad with feta and olives (Bulgarian style lol)
D - 2 LM veggie sausages with roasted peppers, onions and courgette

Have a lovely Monday. Don't forget to be awesome!! I found the post below quite motivating. I need to try change some of my negative diet thoughts!

Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!!

Good morning. No scales so I don’t know but I ate a pub roast dinner, ice cream and a lot of fruit cake yesterday, so I have decided to assume a gain of 1 kilo. Plan for today is small meals and lots of exercise. Started with melon for breakfast, but then spoilt it with a slice of toast and lashings of butter. Ah well onwards and upwards.

BraveGoldie · 05/08/2019 10:56

Good morning everyone. Smile

Am 171lbs this morning. My typical thing has been to reach 169, then for some reason start eating badly so I am going to try to keep momentum up....

Good luck all!

PeriComoToes · 05/08/2019 11:49

+5lbs for a 2 week holiday isn't bad at all really cricket, I've been away for a long weekend, totally over indulged, buckets of alcohol, carbs by the truckload, sugary things. You name it I've had it.

A shocking gain of 3.4lbs from last week's weigh in (I had done an early weigh in on Thursday and had lost a pound so technically that's a 4.4lb gain but I'm ignoring that).

Was it worth it? Yes and no. I did have a great time but I could have made some better choices. I do feel awful today, hungover and very bloated. Hoping that most of the gain is water weight.

Can't face food (still stuffed to be honest) have drunk lemon water and tea so far. Planning a light dinner and a restful day.
