Lose 7lbs in August

BustedDreams · 27/07/2019 12:07

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

@chickenwing that's so exciting! You could be a healthy weight by September!

@lalemonla No diet will work if you don't follow it. So if you're finding that you gain weight when you've stopped, that's not the diet's fault - you've stopped following it!

@naivemelody I usually weigh on Saturday mornings. But other people are different - I know some people find a Monday morning weigh in helps to curb weekend blowouts. Just try to stick to the same day every week.

@busteddreams leek and caulifower soup sounds lovely!

My top tips for healthy weight loss and improved health. Not in no particular order.

Might suits some, not others. That’s fine, this weight loss malarkey is far to complex for it to be about one size fits all. This thread is about doing what you know works for YOU! With the added support from a group of like minded strong women.

I would love to join. I've never done one of these months but have watched them and they seem like a nice sensible weight loss. I am having official weigh in tomorrow which is a bit scary as I haven't been on scales in months. I am hoping to lose 7lb in August. Am going to get back on 5:2 fasting Monday and Wednesdays (or flexible depending on social life) and track what I eat the other times with myfitnesspal. Snacking and portion size are my downfall as even the healthy stuff all adds up to too much.

Welcome @Chickenwing, @xJune88, @Somuchroom @eltsihT @lboogy @naivemelody

I agree @Triceratopmeup I find MFP very useful. I meal plan on it too, as you can input data in advance of the day iyswim.

Some really good tips posted by you all.

Jump on board @Shecanmoveinanydirection . In regards to weighing yourself, I weight first thing (after poo) Blush before any food or drink. Sounds like you have a good plan in place!

Leek & Cauliflower Soup

1 head of cauli - chopped small
2 leeks - quartered & finely sliced
2 sticks celery - finely sliced
1 ltr Chicken stock
Knob of butter
Glug of oil
1 clove garlic - chopped.
30g ish Cream Cheese.
Knob of miso paste (not essential)

Salt & Pepper to taste.

  • Sauté finely sliced celery, leeks & garlic in the melted butter and oil (10 - 15 mins) until soft. Stir at times.
  • whilst veg softening make up chicken stock (stock cube fine, although it’s extra yummy if you have some from the carcass of a roast chicken)
  • Put stock in large saucepan, add softened veg, chopped cauli, miso if using. Bring to a simmer. Cook on low heat until the cauli is soft. Take of heat.
  • Add cream cheese. Blitz with a stick blender. Season to taste.

I’m doing no s - so no snacks, sweets or seconds except on a days (Saturdays, Sundays) but combining with 16:8.

So I’m eating two meals a day between 12-7 broadly.

AngelaScandal · 28/07/2019 14:51

Started 16:8 this week and dropped 3lbs which I was quite happy with.
129lbs post pregnancy looking to get to 118 which is where I was 12 months ago.
Lack of sleep, 24/7 clingy DD and toddler DD making weight loss next to impossible

BustedDreams · 28/07/2019 17:27

@RiddleyW & @Boscoismyspiritanimal you are both similar to me. I naturally only want to eat twice a day and it’s roughly 17:7 = eat between 12:00 - 19:00 give or take.

I think another thing that helps me is that I rarely drink alcohol (as it makes me feel rubbish). Occasionally have a g&t or a red wine.

I'll join! I'm using mfp and aiming for 1300 cals a day. I really want to just reset and get eating 3 normal meals a day. I weigh 11.2 st. We go away on holiday on the 20th of sept and I would like to be 10.7 or under.

ainsliec · 28/07/2019 17:36

Hoping in.

ainsliec · 28/07/2019 17:36

I meant hopping, but hoping works

BustedDreams · 28/07/2019 17:37

Welcome @Laura221 with those numbers I’d say very doable. 9lbs in 7/8 weeks. Defo doable!

OP posts:
BustedDreams · 28/07/2019 17:38

Hahahahaha @ainsliec welcome 😊. Yes we are all hoping.

eltsihT · 28/07/2019 18:35

Well I used mfp today, first time since June. Really pleased with myself as I have managed to stay under my calories. But I did snack, I have discovered 6 caramel buttons are 100calories. But at least is didn’t eat the whole packet.

Good luck everyone else.

Laura221 · 28/07/2019 18:50

Thanks @BustedDreams ! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

My lowest ever weight about 3/4 years ago was 9.9 st but it didn't look right on me so my ideal is around 10 stone, so the closer I get to that the happier I'll be. I'm a terrible snacker at night which is where most of my excess weight has come from so I try to save 200 cals for a snack at night but I really want to get to a point where I dont do it.

MrsJonesAndMe · 28/07/2019 21:24

I'd like to join please. Back from holiday and fat. Will weigh in tomorrow and go food shopping too.

My aim is to drop 10kg to get back to a comfortable weight. I will be cutting gluten right down but still eating carbs. Have a real sugar addiction/carb cravings, so will go read that link, thank you @BustedDreams

Jupiter13 · 28/07/2019 21:41

I can easily shed a stone in 3 days....it's all about wanting to...the most I've shed was 2 stone from Monday to Friday...you need to stay focused...just shed 1/2lb writing this.☺️

MorgenMuffel · 28/07/2019 21:48

I'll join too please. Starting at 11st12. Go ing to be calorie counting with mfp

AngelaScandal · 28/07/2019 22:01

Breastfeeding DD. I’m convinced it’s the reason why I’ve not lost any weight since her birth. It’s clinging to me Angry

chutneypig · 29/07/2019 05:01

Hello everyone.

I’m in for August, the July thread was a real help for me. August will be an odd month with holidays etc but I’m aiming for at least a kilo off.

I use MFP and aim for 1500 calories a day, minimum 10,000 steps. Macros 50% carbs and 25 each fat and protein. I’ve two half marathons in September so I’m balancing out training and weight loss. I do aim for more calories on days I run and seemed to get a reasonable balance in July, so looking to build on that.

Somuchroom · 29/07/2019 06:42

Weighed in this morning and have lost 4lbs on my first week which is really motivating. I was saying to my dh last night how nervous I was about stepping on the scales this morning but I’m so pleased with that result. It’s like a little head start as I’m only looking to loose 1lb a week, so I will be half a stone lighter by end of August!

Good morning everyone, hope you all have a good day!!!

Laura221 · 29/07/2019 07:06

Well done Somuchroom! That's a great head start Smile

I weigh everyday so I'm very impressed with your will power of waiting a week.

naivemelody · 29/07/2019 07:15

@Somuchroom well done, 4lbs down, that is really good.

I joined this thread yesterday so my weigh day will be next Sunday. I would love to lose anything! Just so fed up with being over weight.

cheesenpickles · 29/07/2019 07:29

Down 0.7lbs this morning. Not quite where I was before my night away but back on the straight and narrow. I've also decided to quit smoking as well (I've been putting it off and putting off but need to do it) and so yesterday I was ravenous. I've got a vape as a stopgap but if I can get through without bingeing and gaining I'll be happy.
