Lose 7lbs in August

BustedDreams · 27/07/2019 12:07

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Ill weigh in tomorrow after a good day today

Hello! I’d like to join, please. I lost 6lbs in July with MFP by limiting to 1200 kcal (net). I am 5’3 and have had trouble with my weight ever since DC1 was born seven years ago! I’m at 155lbs now. I lost a huge amount of weight after DC1 and was back down to 127lbs, but that was on extreme low carb. I’m a veggie and find it hard to maintain that WOE, as my family are not veggie and it was becoming such a pain to plan meals.

I lost a good amount of weight after DC2 on low carb and was back to 140lbs, but it was slow and boring.

I now have a stressful full time job, a DH who is away a lot, and just need something simple. Most weekdays I don’t eat until midday. I am finding I tend to lose very slowly, then have a whoosh of a pound or so, then gain a bit, then another whoosh etc.

I started at 161 which is not a happy or comfortable place for me. I want to keep going to 130lbs or so. Even at this high weight and at 1200kcal, I’m only losing just over 1lb a week.

Do you guys recommend a hard limit at 1200 cals, or do you net you calories? I do a few sports, and cycling can burn 600+ calories per ride. If I don’t eat the burned calories I end up ravenous and out of control the next day!

Good luck, everyone!

SaintEyning · 29/07/2019 08:06

I’ve been following other monthly threads for a while and it’s great to see the fantastic losses as well as the support and accountability. So I’m in for August - off work the whole month which may or may not be a good thing - teachers do a lot of unwitting grazing in the staff room!

I’d like to lose 3kg, so from 62 to 59. Breaking that elusive 60kg barrier is always a challenge for me as I hover around 62 most of the year.

Walking, swimming or cycling every day is the goal. And going to try 16:8 again as that got me 4kg off in Feb (although my dad dying my also have had something to do with that!).

Shecanmoveinanydirection · 29/07/2019 09:04

OK. Scales faced. 11'10. Fast day today with meals planned and entered in advance in MFP. Feeling so much better I am actually doing something about this.

BustedDreams · 29/07/2019 09:05

Warm welcomes @MrsJonesAndMe @MorgenMuffel @chutneypig (welcome back) @EnsignRoLaren & @SaintEyning.

@EnsignRoLauren Well done on losing 6lbs in July. I think that is a healthy amount to lose in 4 weeks. I’ve read that some people don’t eat back their exercise calories. I suppose it depends what restrictions you have already placed on yourself. You need to eat enough to feel well and satiated but create enough of a deficit to lose fat. Which reading your post you are achieving.

Have you tried a TDEE calculator. They work out how many calories you need depending on your activity level and also indicate what reduction in calories you need to lose weight.

TDEE Calculator. There are others available on line too.

@Shecanmoveinanydirection planning in advance and being in the right head space is more than half way there imo. 👍

Copied from the other thread!

Hi. Can I join please? Hoping this might help me keep motivated.

I started my weight loss journey 1st July with a starting weight of 10st 10lb. Finished July at 10st 2lb. 8lb loss 😊

My initial target is 9 stone.

MFP Calorie Counting (1300)
2 x High Intensity cardio classes a week
Couch to 5k x 2/3 a week
Walk 12k steps a day
Hand weights used at home

Although I’m thrilled with the weight loss I’m a bit gutted it’s taking so much effort 🤣. I haven’t lost more than 2lb a week and I thought I might see some higher losses.

Anyway! I’m on holiday for the first 2 weeks of August but still aiming for a 6lb loss for August which will take me to a stone in total.

I’m not sure whether to try Fast800 on my return from holiday? I did try one day at 800 calories (ate 781) and I was STARVING!

Good luck to everyone smile

Chickenitalia · 29/07/2019 09:27

Hi all, hopping in from the July thread as well, such a great support.
In July I lost 6lbs, going from 10st 9lbs to 10st 3lbs. This also moved me from overweight to normal BMI which I was delighted with!
I have not had any alcohol since June 29th, which is a massive deal for me. It felt like it was getting away from me and I could easily sink a bottle of wine a night.
I am away for 2 weeks of August and don’t want to have to try and calorie count as this is my only holiday, but am hoping that having been mindful of food for a month will influence my choices.

I stick to 1200 calories a day and track it in MFP.
No alcohol. Big deal for me.
Reducing carbs in meals although not avoiding them, but bulking the plate out with veg, 100g or so of meat, trying to keep the carb element under 100 calories.
Weigh everything!
Lunch has been a 200 cal Exante bar, and this has been very successful for me as then I can have a fairly normal evening meal around the 600 cal mark. Also have had a lot more time without prepping lunch!

With the kids off school it has been a bit more tricky to stick to anything too rigidly but I just want to keep being more mindful about food. If I could get under 10st in August (so a loss of 4lbs) that would be lovely.

Good luck one and all! We’ve got this!

EnsignRoLaren · 29/07/2019 09:50

Thanks, Busted - I have tried TDEE calculators and haven’t had such a high result before - it says over 1600 cals to maintain. But then, I haven’t weighed this much outside of pregnancy before! My days veer from highly sedentary (office job) to quite active if I am doing both school runs and a big exercise session (team sport, cycling, horse riding, running etc). I have hyper mobility syndrome so I spend an unusually long time being injured and recovering, too!

I am happy enough with 6lbs a month; with 25 lbs left to go, I guess that’s 4-6 months to goal. And if I weigh less, that’s less strain on my joints when I run etc. 6 months doesn’t seem so bad compared to the last few years of losing a bit then piling on more! The last year has been awful: I put on 18lb! And I can confidently say that at no point was I eating what I felt like eating.

I can cope with weighing food and 18:6, though!

EnsignRoLaren · 29/07/2019 09:50

Well done on facing the scales and planning your day, shecanmove!

AngelaScandal · 29/07/2019 09:51

@EnsignRo love the name. Wish I was that skinny 😂

EnsignRoLaren · 29/07/2019 09:52

SoMuch, wow, 4lbs in a week - what a boost! Well done.

EnsignRoLaren · 29/07/2019 09:58

Bosco, thanks 😀. I have cycled through a few geek names on here 😀. I know how tricky losing weight while feeding can be. Although I haven’t weighed 118lbs since I was about 12! And only 125lb when I was exercising 13 times a week (ah, the glory of student life)

I am definitely not what people would call slender, but with the right exercise and diet I can get to ‘powerful’ and ‘strong’. Thin, not so much 😀

AngelaScandal · 29/07/2019 10:02

I didn’t even look particularly thin at 118 TG4. I’m just REALLY short. I’m like a pale pale minion

AngelaScandal · 29/07/2019 10:03

TG4? Tbh! Hmm

I've lost 42lbs since having my son 19 months ago. The majority of that has been since starting OMAD in March. I'm currently 10st 7.5 and I need to lose another 1.5lbs to be in my healthy weight range. I'd like to maintain at around 10st. Things have slowed down a lot lately on the weight loss front. I don't do OMAD at the weekend and I have sort of been treating every weekend like Christmas so I think not doing that will be a good place to start!

RiddleyW · 29/07/2019 10:20

I meant to weigh today but DH and DS were hanging around and I don't want them to know!

I'm also really short! Top end of healthy weight for me is 124 lbs which seems a completely impossible goal. My interim goal is to try to get to 140 lbs then reassess. If I can be 140 by Spring next year that would be a fantastic start!

RiddleyW · 29/07/2019 10:21

I'm really interested in OMAD - have you been doing it for the whole 19 months?

beenrumbled · 29/07/2019 10:27

I really need to lose at least 1 stone, I'm 10st 0lb 6oz as of yesterday morning.

I'm no spring chicken (nearly 49) and I'm 5ft 2 inches, so when I'm over weight its really obvious.

In the last 4 years I've gone up and down weight wise - worst was 10st 13oz, best was 8 st 10. I carry a lot round my tummy( 2 csections) and boobs. I think my ideal weight is between 8st 6 and 9st 6, but I would feel good at 8st 10oz.

I had planned to start the year healthy, but then we had 2 close bereavements and as a result I've comfort eaten and been drinking more than is good for me.

I've decided to reduce carbs (not cut out) and eat more veg and protein. This is a challenge as DH is a carnivore and is very limited with his food choices (a whole other thread). DC and I are happier to eat a more varied diet, although DC 3 is ASD, so can be challenging, but finances mean we generally have to eat the same food.

After reading these threads I will also be trying my own take on the 5:2 fasting.

Exercise is hard - I do walk to work briskly a mile and half each way, 5 days a week, but as I work shifts I'm unable to commit to classes. I HATE running (bad knees), and I'm a poor swimmer at best, although I do keep promising myself I will get to the pool I never seem to get there. Blush

I have started doing weights at home 3/4 times a week, just hand weights, but I reckon it all helps

I had made a half hearted attempt to start in June, with the idea of losing weight for a family do at the end of August, and managed to lose 4lbs, but then I have been off with the kids the last 10 days, and have gone back to 10st and 6 oz. Need to do better!

Oysterbabe · 29/07/2019 10:29

I've only been doing it for about 5 months. I lost 14lbs in 14 months after having my son just by trying to eat sensibly. Then I started OMAD and lost 28lbs in 5 months. Its great, I love it. Even with taking the weekends off (and massively over eating during most of them :/) I've still lost weight almost every week. I love it because it's so simple. Either I can't eat anything or I can eat anything I want, no grey area and no counting. I just have a normal meal in the evening. I try and make it quite substantial so often add cheese, cream or butter to things. I find I can't eat a lot after nothing all day so feel really full and satisfied after dinner. I can handle being hungry sometimes but I can't handle being hungry all the time, which I usually am on other diets. I definitely plan to stick with it forever, maybe doing one fewer fast days once I'm maintaining if I can get away with it.

EyeEyeCaptainCaptain · 29/07/2019 11:13

I lurked on the July thread for the first 2 weeks and managed to lose 3lbs. But then last week of term and a holiday happened and I've put on at least 2lbs.

I don't have a great deal to lose but I'm definitely carrying an extra stone, if I could shift at least half of that I'd be very happy.

Planning to follow the 5:2 diet, as I can cope with being hungry for day if I know the next day I can eat more food. First fat day today and panning in having a m and s ready meal with lots of extra veg piled on.

Good luck to everyone!

LosingLola · 29/07/2019 12:19

@EnsignRoLaren I think it depends how sure you are that you burnt 600 calories. If you're just putting it into MFP or similar, that's known to be really inaccurate and over estimate. But if you're using a heart rate monitor then that's better.

You can always try eating the calories back and then adjusting in a few weeks if your weightloss isn't where you want it to be.

Ivy40 · 29/07/2019 12:27

I’m in!

Will read for tips later and hopefully will be able to share some of my own, once I get going.

EnsignRoLaren · 29/07/2019 12:39

Thanks @LosingLola. I wore heart rate monitors for years when I was training more seriously - I played hockey 5+ times a week in my early twenties, and could easily burn 1300-1800 in those sessions. More recently (less fit!) I was burning 800+ in a warm up and game.

But, ok days where I drive to work and back and have the kids in the evening, I only do a couple of thousands steps! Shock I was doing HIIT last year but injured myself and haven’t got back into it.

Maybe I really do need an Apple Watch 😀

EnsignRoLaren · 29/07/2019 12:41

Ooh! I just had a sandwich made up of grated cucumber, grated carrot, spinach, romain, and a thin smear of peri-peri mayo. It was actually really tasty and only a couple hundred calories including normal bread. I had been buying lunches at work due to crazy schedules, and was trying to pick lower carb options, but they had serious calorie counts!
