We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Thank you 3dogs! I've had a great day, dh is being brilliant about comig out for walks with me, we did 4.5k tonight (with quite a few stops) and I'm finding MFP really good for keeping my eating on track. Have managed to resist the late night snacking demon tonight (am bloody hungry though!)

So glad I found this thread, hope everyone else has had a good day too Flowers

3dogs2cats · 10/07/2019 09:26

Hello everyone. Weighed myself this am. Back to 102.5 k. I am quite pleased. I had a really good birthday, but did not go crazy. Now that’s out of the way, hoping I can crack on. Desperate to get below 100k. Swapping between metric and imperial to snaffle more achievements, think I’m only 3 pounds away from under 16 stone, so I will hit that milestone quicker. Is that pathetic or what?
Current BMI is 35.5.
Hello @thisisgettingridiculous, there are a few of us quite near the start, with a lot of weight to lose. It is nice to have company.

3dogs2cats · 10/07/2019 09:28

@thisisgettingridiculous, I gained 15 kilos over a year too, having lost it the year before. This is definitely the last time over 100k for me.

moonlight1705 · 10/07/2019 10:00

I think I've lost, gained, lost, gained 15kg for years. I'm not really losing weight fast, never have done but my theory is that I need to find my new plateau each and every time in order to stay there. Maybe this time I won't gain again after.

Post and AnotherOtter used to do some quite interesting posts about maintaining.

thisisgettingridiculous · 10/07/2019 10:53

@3dogs2cats well done on your progress so far. I too cannot wait to be under 100kg ... 100 just seems like such a barrier and I had never been through it before. Good luck and I am here to keep you company 😊

3dogs2cats · 10/07/2019 19:08

Oh thank you. Keep picking today. Still have calories left but it feels wrong. We normally eat together but everyone else is out. Bit lost because no ones made dinner.

Greensleeves · 10/07/2019 22:09

Does anyone else have a tendency to go too far on cutting calories? I think it's a black and white thinking thing, I've only eaten 800 calories today and walked 5km, dh is telling me that's madness and unsustainable Sad

It's why I'm fat in the first place I think. All or nothing. If I'm not living on lettuce and water I may as well eat a whole box of Celebrations.

3dogs2cats · 10/07/2019 23:37

Doesn’t sound enough calories. I understand that if you don’t eat enough your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto the fat....

moonlight1705 · 11/07/2019 08:39

Greensleeves read the Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung - it has really helped me understand about lack of calories and types of dieting. I promise it is worth the purchase.

vickibee · 11/07/2019 10:13

please may I rejoin this, I think i was in a much earlier thread?
Greensleeves 800 cals sounds far too little if you are doing that everyday? sometimes you can eat too little?
Well done to all for progress

So mid Feb i was 18st 9 and today 16st 0 and 1/2 so lost 36.5lb

My question is I seem to have hit a plateau and only lost like 1 pound in three weeks. What is going on and how to get back on track?
I have had a bad weekend last weekend as we were away at a hotel attending a wedding and I ate the wedding breakfast plus prosecco. not very nourishing.
I also cannot exercise much at moment, my athritic knee hurts so bad

3dogs2cats · 11/07/2019 19:54

Hi @vickibee. Congratulations on wonderful weight loss in just 5 months. What methods are you using?
Arthritis is a bummer. I swim regularly and one of my swim buddies has arthritis. She finds she can swim and feels better for it. I know it’s not for everyone.
I had my 60th birthday last weekend. I knew I would eat and drink more, but I focussed on keeping some moderation and enjoying myself. Itreally isn’t naughty to enjoy special occasions and wouldn’t life be shit without them?
I am using MFP and have a generous 1800 calories a day, but I know as you lose weight your requirement can drop, so maybe try that?
I do find it helps to be in touch with others. I guess you felt you had this and didn’t need support, but it is hard to plateau., especially so close to breaking 16 stone.

vickibee · 11/07/2019 20:22

@3dogs2cats I am also using MVP to track calories, I aim for 1500 but go over some days. It is hard to estimate calories in recipes made from scratch, eg had vegetable moussaka today, not a clue what it’s calories are. It only takes really works with off the shelf products. It sounds as though your weight is similar to mine.
My gp wants me to get down to 13 stone which seems impossible. I have been prescribed orlistat

3dogs2cats · 11/07/2019 22:33

What is orlistat? Perhaps I should get some.i want to get to overweight, then see.i would love to be able to buy clothes anywhere.

moonlight1705 · 12/07/2019 08:55

Can I put a bit of a downer on orlistat? it is a drug that stops you absorbing fatty foods but it has terrible side effects including orange stained pants as you cannot stop fecal matter coming out and its all greasy from the fat.

It also has not actually been proven to work past the initial weight loss that you would get with any diet restriction. In fact most of us who have tried it never go back to it again and have not lost a pound in the overall scheme. Sadly the doctors prescribe as its easy for them and you can an little rush at the beginning.

Obviously this is not true for everyone and if you feel happy to try then its up to you but I would not touch the stuff again.

vickibee · 12/07/2019 08:57

it is a weight loss tablet that you take 3 times a day with meals, it works by absorbing some of the fat in your food. The downside is you can get caught short if you eat naughty food but thankfully this has only happened to me once. It kind of assists with will power because you know eating fatty food will result in needing the loo urgently. I got it on prescription from my GP . apparently you lose an extra 10 percent with this. might be worth a try

3dogs2cats · 12/07/2019 15:02

Well, thanks for that. I think I will just carry on as I am for now. I need to be making better choices, pretty sure I would see that as a free pass, could end up fatter! Incontinence isn’t appealing either!

vickibee · 12/07/2019 17:05

I have not had major problems with orlistat just the once, really, I certainly not have orange stained pants. I think it has helped me so perhaps everyone is different

HoneysuckIejasmine · 12/07/2019 19:41

Vickibee I'm not sure what you mean about cooking from scratch and MFP? I cook from scratch almost every day. I just create it as a recipe as I make it (or afterwards). It just means you need to weigh things as you go. I've got about 300 recipes stored on the app now.

Agree with Moonlight about Orlistat.

STS this week which is OK I guess.

How have you all done?

3dogs2cats · 14/07/2019 20:03

I have lost weight.,1/2 kilo, I think weird eek because I was celebrating my birthday,so went up and then came down again.

Introvertedbuthappy · 15/07/2019 10:07

Weighed in at 16 stone so 4 stone down and 20% of my initial body weight lost since January.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 15/07/2019 10:57

I'm hovering around the same weight at the moment. This morning I was 12,6.5 so 96lbs lost. I really do want to get to 100lbs off but I am finding it hard to shift now. Need a week to be on it and see what happens.

vickibee · 15/07/2019 11:36

@honeysuclcklejasmine - your weight loss is truly amazing, congrats. What are you aiming for?
Also well done to Introverted 4 stone is also amazing
The scales say I have lost a pound this morning - I have broken the 16 stone barrier finally so that feels like a milestone.I also bought size 16 trouser which is good even though they are super stretchy fabric
I have also discovered green tea and like it, there is anecdotal evidence that it boosts metabolism as well
I have just eaten my lunch (at work) because I was feeling hungry so a long time until tea time

HoneysuckIejasmine · 15/07/2019 13:19

Thanks Vicki. I'm starting to get to the point where I feel this size (10/12) is a new normal. I still get the odd surprise passing a mirror but mostly I'm used to it!

I'm only 5'6" so I'm still over a stone overweight, so I'd like to reach a healthy BMI, which is an 8 stone 2lb loss. (114lbs)

Greensleeves · 15/07/2019 13:28

Honeysucklejasmine that's amazing, well done! Vickibee I've just switched to green tea as well, I like it and I find it wakes me up in the morning quite well. Have been much better about not going overboard with the diet since MFP told me off for the 800 calories Blush

I've given up smoking as well (day 6 today!) and am going to buy myself a fitbit with the money saved, dh already has one and it really helps him stay on track.
