We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

@3dogs2cats progress is progress, every step you take is improving your health so don't be downheartened. I'm in the same boat

moonlight1705 · 03/07/2019 11:29

3dogs well I think of it being that I've been obese for 5 years and overweight for the previous ten years before that so if I can get to overweight in less than one year then it will be an amazing achievement.

I'm back on MFP and its going well, I've got left over cottage pie for lunch which is fairly calorific but trying to balance it out with a fishcake and veg tonight. It does remind me that I need to weigh out ingredients again, I put down for 60g of museli for breakfast (based on a normal 40g portion) but that may be way out.

I find sometimes I really do need to buy something I can treat myself with i.e. Kitkats are on offer and I can pop one in my lunchbox.

3dogs2cats · 03/07/2019 19:54

Thanks you guys. . Of course you are right, and the biggest step is the first one. This is week 3 for me. If I hadn’t taken myself in hand I’d probably be 108 kilos now, not 103.kept to my meal plan today, and went to yoga. I should be proud.

BrokenWing · 03/07/2019 20:32

Been away for a bit. I've lost my mojo and it's all going wrong, have tried to restart every week for the last 4 weeks but fail after a day then back to snacking again!!!

Any stories of how you got back on the wagon after a few bad weeks? I don't even know why I've just reverted to bad habits when I was feeling so much better!!! Only 4lbs back on so far but need to get that downward trend going again.

I have been off the wagon far too long. I just looked in the mirror naked and snapped out of it. Threw any shit away and went shopping for only healthy things. Meal planned and got down to it. Pretty much gave myself a slap!

3dogs2cats · 04/07/2019 11:46

Tips. Well, don’t buy it, then you can’t eat it. I am eating the same breakfast every day. Oatsosimple and an orange. I have upped my protein and quartered carbs. If I must snack, it’s an apple or a piece of meat. We had birthday celebrations last week, and I did join in, but didn’t go mad, so I came out even. My 60th this weekend. There will be food and wine, but I will try to keep it moderate. I like the idea of reminding myself that I dint get fat overnight, and I won’t get thin overnight.
I weigh every day. I log everything on MFP.
But I’m 3 weeks in, so these might be rubbish tips. I hope not, I’m relying on them.
Long way to go though.

RoseyPeas · 04/07/2019 15:25

@BrokenWing
Hi, I got my mojo back by listening to weight loss podcasts while walking dog. I had to listen for about 5 days before I felt I could make changes.
I now put one on every time I have a craving!! I'm only a week in but it's working at the moment Smile

@3dogs2cats
Congratulations on your 60th and on your 3 weeks staying on plan. I hope they're not rubbish tips because I'm using them too Grin

RoseyPeas · 04/07/2019 15:40

Quick update at end of week one:
Down 2kg Halo
BMI down from 39.9 to 39

Was slightly disappointed with result this morning as it was a little more 2 days ago, so had hoped for even more. Greedy Grin
I really need to put a bit of effort into my meals as there's not much variety and I'm likely to get bored quite soon.

Some lovely Mumsnetter posted about making canapés with cherry toms and cream cheese on cucumber rounds, which have been brilliant and great for a low carb snack - anyone else got low carb snack ideas?

moonlight1705 · 04/07/2019 16:06

Why don't we all post our current favourite lunch and dinner ideas to help kickstart some new members?

Low-carb snack (Rosey) for me has to be cheese cubes with grapes or apple. I get three types of hard cheese.

Lunch: Couscous chicken salad with mango

Dinner: Chicken curry made with a tomato type sauce with lentils and spinach.

3dogs2cats · 05/07/2019 13:53

Moonlight, the chicken curry sounds good. Lunch was smoked salmon and scrambled egg, but with 2 slices of toast, Dh made it, I should have just had 1 slice of toast. Dinner will b a small portion of pasta with pesto bacon and cherry tomatoes. Bit carb heavy today, but I’m going to garden for 2 hours to earn it.
I was 102.5 kilos this am. Know I will gain this weekend though.

moonlight1705 · 05/07/2019 14:19

Yum, 3dogs - not everyone has to go low carb, it works for some and not others. It sounds as if you are making good changes to your diet. Have fun in the garden, its sunny and beautiful.

My favourite breakfast right now is smashed avocado with a little lime juice and chilli flakes on toast with a poached egg on top.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 06/07/2019 05:25

Breakfast: porridge oats, 40g cooked in water. Pour cooked oats over one mashed banana and add a teaspoon of peanut butter. OR 40g oats, 1 mashed banana, mixed together and set aside for an hour or so, the loosened with a bit of water to make a thick batter, and fried in to pancakes. Serve with fruit compot or berries. Or a bacon sandwich.

Lunch: bowl of soup (homemade or tinned, whatever) salad with ham/smoked mackerel, with watered down houmous as the dressing. Crisps or fruit, maybe a slice of peanut butter toast.

Dinner: this week we've had nachos, Thai green curry, full English, lentil bolognese, stir fry, falafel wraps etc

Ooh these all sound amazing!
Curry for breakfast anyone?!Grin

RoseyPeas · 06/07/2019 08:59

I'm really enjoying putting random bits found in the fridge on cucumber rounds.
Eg cream cheese and bacon, peanut butter and apple, anything kids have leftover...
Makes for a good snack or evening meal on a hot night.

moonlight1705 · 06/07/2019 10:53

honey I made those banana pancakes this morning and they were lovely!!

Sadly I also put on 1lb but we did have friends round last weekend and went out for lunch a couple of times.

Back to it this week, I can walk now after having sprained my ankle so will be doing the walk to work.

Introvertedbuthappy · 06/07/2019 23:40

Well done everyone, we can do it!
Weight today: 16 stone 2
Weight in January: 20 stone
So 2lbs until 4 stone lost. 4 stone 10 until I’m a healthy weight, 2.5 stone until I’m overweight.
I’ll get there, just need to keep on keeping on.

3dogs2cats · 06/07/2019 23:52

Wow sounds like everyone is doing well. I went so far over today, and not even sure that I allowed enough, I wasn’t weighing. With hindsight, I regret the beer and the pork pie, but the rest was lovely, and it was my birthday
I probably will regret it more when it takes days and days to get to yesterday’s weight. Oh well this morning think I was 102.5k . Started 3 weeks ago at 107. I shall try to be mindful.

3dogs2cats · 06/07/2019 23:55

@introvertedbuthappy.I think we are the same weight but you’re imperial and I’m metric.you have done so well since January. Inspiring.

Introvertedbuthappy · 07/07/2019 21:55

Thanks 3dogs2cats, yes you’re right! That’s exciting that I’ll be less than 100kg soon. I started at 127kg!

4.5kg in 3 weeks is a brilliant start!

namechangeAL101 · 08/07/2019 15:50

Hi all, I've been watching these threads for ages...mainly whilst stuffing my face Blush.

I'm finally taking the plunge and looking to lose around 8 stone. I think this will be via low carbing as I just don't have the willpower to do VLCD again! Has anyone here lost 7+ stone low carbing/keto in a relatively short space of time? I.e. 6 months or so?
I know the weight didn't go on overnight etc. but I'm after some inspiration :)

3dogs2cats · 08/07/2019 19:27

@introvertedbuthappy
You have lost a fifth of your body weight. Since January.. so amazing.

Greensleeves · 08/07/2019 19:31

Hi, I've just weighed myself today for the first time in months and joined MFP, I need to lose about 6.5 stone. Sick of feeling uncomfortable, hot and embarrassed all the time and having sore feet whenever I walk. Just been for a 3k walk with dh - gotta start somewhere!

Well done @ Greensleeves. Starting is definitely the hardest part.
How are you doing?

thisisgettingridiculous · 09/07/2019 20:42

Hello. I started yesterday and I have 40kgs to lose (currently 105kgs - BMI 39). I am angry because I managed to gain 15 kgs in the past year for no reason. So now I will be struggling for a long time just to get back to 90 (which is still way too much for my height). Long road ahead.
