We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Right. Let's shake it up. New challenge time. I've been doing the same thing for a year and I'm starting to get a bit slapdash and lazy with it.

So, I've decided to do similar to Fate and cut out refined carbs. I don't believe carbs are the devil and I don't plan on doing keto. However, I spend a lot of calories on toast, pasta, bread... Carbtastic. I find it triggers my binge urges too. So I'm not giving it up completely. Just cutting down. With the weather getting warmer so can move towards salads too so that'll help.

OP posts:
Longhaul2019 · 06/03/2019 18:36

Good luck honey the only refined carb we eat occasionally is white rice.

We don't have bread at home. Its too easy to eat!

cricketmum84 · 06/03/2019 19:42

Good luck honey! Hope it works for you.

I find following ww plan makes me naturally eat very low carb, just because anything carb heavy is so high in points!

I don't eat any bread or pasta, small amounts of rice and quinoa but I sub most carbs for veg! Cauli rice, butternut squash spaghetti and lots of salad.

MagicKeysToAsda · 06/03/2019 21:07

I don't each much bread. But you will pry my pasta from my cold dead pudgy fingers---- GrinGrinGrin
I sympathise with the urge to just change something though: many of us have been shuffling down this road for a long long time and it's really hard to keep up momentum and commitment. I suspect I actually have changed habits without noticing - but not in a good way - I've relaxed a bit too much, so I probably just need to change back. Sigh.

I am thinking about a new fitness challenge, possibly aiming to get from my slow 5ks to a slow 10k. Another idea a friend has was a "virtual NY marathon" so to tot up miles in segments until we reach the marathon equivalent, and each time look up what we'd have seen on the official route for that bit! Anyone else got any good motivators?

FATEdestiny · 06/03/2019 21:28

Fitbit do similar challenges MagicKeysToAsda. So over time you follow how far along a famous trail route you are.

Have a look at Race At Your Pace - you get some blingy medals for totting up distances over the course of a month. Back last year when I started this journey, I did 100 miles in March as a race at your pace (I dog walked)

There's the (Macmillan?) Challenge at the moment which is 10000 steps every day in March. I'm trying for 20000 daily steps.

I keep meaning to do the 100 squats a day challenge. Bit since this only takes 5 mins or so to do, I seem to quite easily forget to do it!

Regarding carbs - I'm not anti carbs but what I do eat are wholegrain carbs - so whole oats, brown rice, quinoa or carbs in vegetables. But even then I don't have those very often.

I don't track my macros, but I'd guess that most of my carbs come from milk. I drink a lot of milk every day - easily a litre. It's my comfort food and my post-exercise refuel.

In other news, without wishing yo alarm anyone, I've been in hospital with phnemonia. That sounds far more serious than I feel like it should. I was I'll for 10 days or so with a cold. Went to GP when my chest started hurting, who sent me straight to A&E, who sent me straight to Acute Respiritary Ward. I was in for 3 days (my longest time without running!).

Thankfully feel a million times better now. But the inactivity, comfort eating and hospital food (much higher calorie and more processed than I'm used to) resulted in a 6lb gain. Well on the way to dropping that though.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 06/03/2019 23:30

Argh no Fate! I was hospitalised with pneumonia last year. I gained a stone in fluids! Was constantly on a drip, guess I was dehydrated too. Hope you're feeling better soon. I didn't really realise I was ill until I fainted repeatedly trying to get from en suite back to bed.

OP posts:
Longhaul2019 · 07/03/2019 08:56

Glad you are on the mend, Fate that weight will come off soon. Loved your comment about noticing how long you hadn't run for. Know that feeling!

Weight back down again and NSV I needed a belt on my trousers to stop looking like a homeboy.

marcopront · 07/03/2019 17:07

The app I use to track my swimming allows you to map your progress against a particular route. I am currently swimming the Suez Canal.
I managed cross fit again today.

A friend is going to Ireland in a couple of weeks so I can get some new underwear delivered to her house, my knickers are getting loose. I need to work out what size to get, I will not be able to get any more until late June.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 09/03/2019 09:52

Morning!

I was away on a girls weekend last week so inevitably gained a bit. I'm now back on the way down. Still not back to the low I reached in early Feb though.

Lost this week: 1lb
Lost to date: 93.50lbs
Still to lose: 19.25lbs

This week I've decided to change it up a bit, and I'm stealing some tricks from low carbers. I don't intend on doing low carb, but I do use a lot of calories on them, so I'm going to be trying lettuce wraps and cauliflower rice and see how we go.

Don't worry though, I'm just feeding baby then I'm going to have my Saturday morning bacon sandwich. With fresh baked bread. Wink

OP posts:
moonlight1705 · 09/03/2019 11:50

Loss this week: 3lb Grin
Total loss: 35lb

I've had an excellent week in terms of food, lots of nice meals and hot cross buns. I think the weight loss is definitely due to breastfeeding.....need to make sure my fluid intake is upped though as I've had a dehydration headache yesterday.

honey you seem to be back on track. My DM swore by low carbing and really enjoyed it in the end. I often wonder whether I should cut out a few portions as I love my carbs. Let us know how the reduction goes!

Quandary2018 · 09/03/2019 12:24

I’m all over the place in terms of stats and what I’ve lost after February was such an odd month for me but I stepped on the scales this morning and I’ve lost 1.5lbs this week!
Am chuffed with that, i really am, even though it totally sucks that I can only eat about 1000 calories a day in order to see any positive movement on the scale- it’s really hard to stick to such low calories but any more than that and I start gaining, despite me doing an average of 15,000 steps a day, plus davinas boxing dvd 3 times a week and weights 5 times a week. I’m bloody knackered!

Total loss: 30lbs
To go: 82.8lbs

HoneysuckIejasmine · 09/03/2019 13:13

Moonlight as long as you keep eating well, breastfeeding will definitely help! Don't forget to allow extra calories for it. Typically between 400-600 cals for an ebf baby. I still allow myself 100 extra, having tailed it down as he started eating solid food.

Quandary well done on your loss, that's excellent.

zebrarobot · 12/03/2019 11:34

I havent posted for a while but have been reading - well done on the losses everyone is doing well Smile

Since 7th Jan i'm down 29.1lbs, im almost a 3rd of the way there in losing 100lbs. Hoping to lose another 14 lbs by the beginning of May when we go on holiday.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 12/03/2019 17:07

Wow Zebra that's amazing! Well done! Great pace you've got going on.

Sneaky hop on the scales this morning indicates carb replacement is going well. I need to do some more steps and keep it up today! Official weigh in on Saturday.

OP posts:
Lomghaul2019 · 12/03/2019 20:52

Excellent progress zebra. Congratulations

I ate and drank double my calorie allowance yesterday Grin Have had a very lean day today to balance things out a bit. I'm out again Thursday though.

It's no surprise on days like yesterday I got so overweight. It really didn't feel like I'd had 3000 calories!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 15/03/2019 19:01

Hello everyone! How has your week been?

This has been my first week reducing carbs. Some days very successful, some less so. Hopefully there will be a loss on the scales tomorrow

OP posts:
Longhaul2019 · 16/03/2019 07:44

I've eaten too much this week. No bingeing just too much food and drink. I don't feel good for it. Will get back on the travel this weekend.

Hope people have had better weeks!

Longhaul2019 · 16/03/2019 07:45

Track not the travel which I also had to do a lot of

moonlight1705 · 16/03/2019 11:41

I've had another good week weight wise and lost 1.5lb.

Total loss: 36.5lb

Hope you've all had a good week.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 16/03/2019 18:31

Evening!

Loss this week: 2.25lbs
Total loss: 95.75lbs
To lose: 17lbs

I'm 2.25lbs away from 7 stone!

Well done Moonlight! How's baby?

ICJump · 16/03/2019 21:36

I really like to join in. I’ve got roughly 120 pounds to lose. DD is six weeks.

I’ve been using an app called recovery record which tracks food and mood and I think it’s helping me understand my behaviour around food. However I’ve not really reduced my food intake. I’m thinking I will use my Fitbit and record food thier and eat under my daily output. I’ll weigh in tomorrow.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 17/03/2019 10:08

Hi IC! Welcome. That sounds like a good plan. One amendment I'd suggest though ; calorie output on Fitbits etc are shown to be pretty inaccurate. Try using tdeecalculator.net to work out your calorie requirements - it's averages several different scientific studies to estimate. It also gives guidance for weight loss calories.

OP posts:
ICJump · 17/03/2019 20:40

Thanks Honey I used the calculator and my maintenance is 2400 and I’d need to add 500 for exclusive breastfeeding. So I think aiming for 2000 a day would be about right for weight loss

Stats
Start weight 286
Aiming to lose 121

moonlight1705 · 18/03/2019 10:02

Welcome ICJump, my DD is 5 weeks so we must be at the same stage of sleep deprivation Grin
Well done for starting the journey though.

honey nearly 7 stone! That's a brilliant achievement so we will party next week with you.
Baby is well, she slept from 11-5 last night which felt amazing. Although she has now got trapped wind and is telling me all about it.

Where has everyone else gone off the thread?

HoneysuckIejasmine · 18/03/2019 10:26

Sounds great, IC! You can do this for sure.

I am going to make a big batch of mixed veg soup today I think, just a basic one. Then throw various seasonings in each day as I fancy. That'll use up the half a jar of Thai curry paste etc lurking in the fridge.

Veg curry for dinner tonight too. Need to go through and see what's lurking in the veg drawer.
