It’s that time of year when we all start thinking about going on a diet. Anyone on my fitness pal who wants to make some friends for motivation?

I've now got one more (very good) reason to motivate me - I found out this week that I may need surgery at some point in the near future, and they would want my BMI to be a lot lower than it is now.

Boysmomma · 23/01/2019 10:01

@First that must have been a fright but brilliant motivation! How are you feeling about it?

TheFirstOHN · 23/01/2019 14:57

The diagnosis makes sense and explains symptoms I've had for years. There are medical treatments, but I've either tried them (unsuccessfully) or can't have them (due to contraindications).

Since 1 January I have got my BMI down from 39 to 38. My GP will see me again in 3-4 months to review symptoms and probably refer to a surgeon, which will take another few months. I'd like to be able to get my BMI down to 35 by the the time I see the surgeon.

Shameless placemarking for later when I can come back and read properly!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 23/01/2019 16:32

I'm back Wink

I actually weighed myself this morning after basically having a week off and the good news is I'm still a few pounds down from the 1st, so I'll take that and run with it Grin

Bringbackthestripes · 24/01/2019 06:44

Why are my scales not moving? I have been religiously weighing food and logging it since 1st jan, whilst I’m thrilled to be 5llbs down in the first two week, I’m now eating around 1300 cals a day and it’s just said the same weight all week Confused

SocksRock · 24/01/2019 15:07

I often find it can go in jumps and skips. So I'll lose nothing for a week and then 4lbs in one day - you just have to keep plugging away.

Pinkroseuk · 24/01/2019 19:08

I've stopped logging on the app-
Have cut out lunch and half breakfast and lost a couple kg so far so hopefully it's starting to shift!
@Bringbackthestripes I also find it's nothing for ages then a drop! So annoying though!

Bringbackthestripes · 24/01/2019 20:19

Thanks Socks & Pink I was just starting to think “what’s the point” and stuff my face with chocolate and crisps but I will keep at it.

MajesticWhine · 24/01/2019 21:24

I'm so hungry ☹️.
I'm over my calorie target for the day apparently. But I do hate being hungry.

SouthernComforts · 24/01/2019 21:29

Hi all, just spotted this thread. I've been doing MFP again since 1st Jan and have lost 7lb so far with a 1280 cal target. Halfway there.

Have discovered asda lentil curls (fake crisps) are nice and rice noodles are good for stir frys.

TheFirstOHN · 24/01/2019 22:18

MajesticWhine I also hate being hungry. I managed to stay under 1600 kcal today, which is a first for me.

SocksRock · 24/01/2019 22:21

Yup hate being hungry. 1580 cal for me and 230 exercise so I'm going to call that a win.

I'm obvs in a plateau myself at the moment, but I haven't run as much this week as normal. Saturday 23km should hopefully shift a couple of pounds though! Not least because all the jiggling around is better thank ExLax...

2angelbabies · 24/01/2019 23:37

SouthernComforts · 25/01/2019 11:25

I've been having the aldi oatcakes with light Philadelphia for a snack. 4 oat cakes and 35g of Philly is 237 calories and kinda feels like a decent size snack.

Psychologika · 25/01/2019 12:11

Please add me! CuteKute!

slalomsuki · 25/01/2019 15:47

Well I've stuck to 1300 calories pretty much give or take a few and I've lost about 6ibs by my reckoning although I didn't actually have scales at the start as they had been lost due to no use.

I have a bit of a crap diet and the app at times makes me obsess over food and how many calories I have left but I have certainly eaten more fruit this month and am a bit more conscious of what I eat.

My work pattern has changed this month and I have found that as it beds in this month I have wandered a bit in the last week and have eaten chocolate which I had avoided in the main. I'm not a big walker as I have a hip problem but have tried to do a bit every day.

Motivation is waining at the moment but I will try to keep it up and reassess what's going on

SocksRock · 25/01/2019 18:52

Kids leftovers got me today! Damn them!

I shall consider it carb loading for long run day tomorrow..

Pinkroseuk · 25/01/2019 21:40

Chocolate pudding got me today!
Managed to loose 1kg so far this week so fairly pleased though- have been keeping up the walking and cut the exercise bike out and seems to be coming off so who knows why exercise was causing me to gain so much!

SocksRock · 26/01/2019 08:25

Ok I lied. It wasn't the kids leftovers that did for me yesterday.

That would be the 5 double G&T's 😳

And now I'm about to go do long run. Happy days

TheFirstOHN · 26/01/2019 12:18

I went for dinner at a friend's house yesterday evening and really overate for the first time since the beginning of January. Couldn't put it all on mfp because I wouldn't know where to start. I had seconds of both the main course and the pudding. Blush

I felt slightly uncomfortable afterwards, which is interesting because I used to eat that much regularly and wouldn't even notice it.

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 26/01/2019 14:51

payday yesterday - and I had a bad week at work. We ordered a Chinese take out!!! Had far too much food.

And this was after a week of me sticking to my calories everyday, but if anything I had put a couple of lbs back on (I knew it would probably happen after being ill last week and losing more than I would have normally I think) but still it was getting me down.

Ah well, I am still less than I was on the 1st Jan - I just wish I was a year further down the line already and was close.

TheFirstOHN · 26/01/2019 17:54

Ah well, I am still less than I was on the 1st Jan

Same. That's a positive way to look at it. I'm just trying to take one day at a time with regard to the overeating.

Aph413 · 26/01/2019 18:10

First weekend off in over a year so I keep snacking. Still under my calories so far, as long as I make it to the gym later I'll be fine.
