It’s that time of year when we all start thinking about going on a diet. Anyone on my fitness pal who wants to make some friends for motivation?

I try to keep to 1200 by lots of exercise. I can eat more that way.

I started running 2 years ago and it helped me lose the first 2.5 stone. Hitting 10,000 steps a day plus either a home HIIT video or a run 5/7 means I can eat enough to not feel hungry.

Also I go to bed early to avoid evening snacks.

My downfall is work. I have a job that is only about 50% office based. The rest of the time I'm travelling. I know every McDonald's within a 40 mile radius of my base and I'm so bad at not taking a packed lunch because "it'll go off in the car"

I'm broke after Christmas and I'm fat. So cracking the packed lunches is my first job. And buying some ice packs so my lunch in the car stays fresh.

Pinkroseuk · 02/01/2019 22:19

Can I join? I'm rgoldman2014
I have had the app for ages but never really learnt how to use it 😆
Literally just logging weight atm!

I have lost 1 stone since November down 2kg this week so far- got another 3 to go ASAP as waiting for treatment to ttc once weights down!

SocksRock · 03/01/2019 07:16

My experience is that it takes a while to get into the routine. Once you've been logging food for a few weeks it remembers your favourites so it gets a lot quicker. Weighing everything becomes a routine as well - I generally put my plate on the scales and log as I plate up. Same with packed lunches when I make them! Box on the scales and log as I put stuff in it.

Today we are doing a long forest walk with a group of friends which is going to involve a picnic (yes I do know it's 3rd Jan 😱), so I'm going to do the normal dash to Morrison's for packets of sausage rolls and donuts for the kids but pack a proper lunch for myself that is weighed.

After a while you get a feel for how much extra you will burn, so I'm reckoning on an additional 400cal for the walk (I wear a Garmin tracker), and I gave blood yesterday so that's 150cal extra to replace the Pint I gave.

I always eat my extra exercise calories, so 1200 net is my goal. 1200 gross would be unachievable for me as I have quite high activity levels.

Best advice is just to start logging and see where it gets you - I was shocked at how many calories are in some things and you can start to see where you can swap stuff out to make better choices.

mfpsamzy133 · 03/01/2019 08:48

I've reset my profile so my weigh in today is 'starting weight' hopefully the numbers go down from here!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 03/01/2019 09:11

TheGirlWhoLived it was leftovers from new years day Wink DH got the leftover roasties in goose fat and I couldn't be bothered to make boring spray oil ones for me Grin so I bunged a waffle in.

Proper (ish) cooking today........ Chilli con carne Grin

MajesticWhine · 03/01/2019 12:27

I just friend requested loads of you. I am Nevermakequiche on the app.

I have a goal of 1310 calories although it does adjust according to my Fitbit steps.
I have so far overshot the first 2 days. DH cooked me a salmon en croute last night which didn't help Grin

flubbadubble · 03/01/2019 13:37

Off for a wee walk to the park but I'll add you all when I get back. I'm Wildanimalsargh if anyone wants to add me.

Pinkroseuk · 03/01/2019 13:45

Just been for a walk and had lunch so going to try and track that in the app- need to get into the habit of using it more!

SocksRock · 03/01/2019 17:18

Long walk for us round the wood with friends today - 6 adults and 12 kids! The kids have obviously all been cooped up too long as they were absolutely feral after about 5min and we ended up having to round them up from all over! But I met my steps target for the day, I did some cardio HIIT this morning and I've got 600cals left for supper.

Tomorrow - going to see my aunt so there will be wine. But there will also be a long dog walk so fingers crossed. I need to run tomorrow so I need to get up at 6am to do it before DH goes to work, so more fingers crossed I can do that!

Then on a Saturday I'm running a 10k race with my cousin. So deffo will get the steps and exercise in there.

Off to charge my chest torch for tomorrow mornings early run. We are semi rural so I can't run in the dark without it. Pavements but not lit.

MajesticWhine · 03/01/2019 17:44

I have a very sedentary job so not managed any exercise today although I had a bit of a walk at lunch time. Thinking about going for a run now... 🤔

Pinkroseuk · 03/01/2019 18:03

@MajesticWhine I have a sedentary job too- do you find it's hard to fit in exercise? I don't always feel like going out again when I get home as I work 8-5 an hour or so away so out the house for a while as it is

fatgirlrunning · 03/01/2019 18:11

I'm AlonzyAlonso on MFP.

My calories are very low right now as I'm on BSD.

Smile
fatgirlrunning · 03/01/2019 18:12

Correction! AllonzyAlonso...2 L's!

SocksRock · 03/01/2019 18:25

Can you exercise in your lunch break? I run in mine twice a week. No shower either, I just rinse my hair under the tap in the ladies, wipe down with baby wipes and then lots of deodorant.

Apart from looking like a tomato for the next couple of hours, no one has ever commented.

However, BLOODY KIDS LEFTOVERS.

My nemesis, and today they nearly got me. I had to literally scrape it all straight into the food bin and then freeze the big portion without a single pause for thought or I would have eaten the lot without even thinking

The mindful thinking about food is the hardest, I can absentmindedly eat 1000 calories without even noticing. I hate it.

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 03/01/2019 20:06

Had a good day, been on my feet a lot of the day!

Which is painful, since that is my life now, painful feet due to being overweight!!

I tend to get to 10k steps most days at work. Not that it seems to make a difference!

Have to be honest, not massively eating "healthy;y" but as long as I am below my calorie goal, than I am happy at the moment.

slalomsuki · 03/01/2019 20:41

Can I join you all too. A lot to loose and not very active job. Trying to get rid of 3 stone and a pain in my hip.

3 days so far and have managed to stay within the goal so far but it's hard.

MajesticWhine · 04/01/2019 09:15

Yeah exercising at lunch time is a challenge - I am only supposed to take 1/2 hour lunch. Occasionally if I'm not busy I manage a walk or sneak off for a swim in the lido (summer only!)
Cycling to work is the best way around it and I manage this once or twice a week. I also have a cross trainer at home which in theory means I can exercise at home without venturing out into the dark. Now must put that idea into practice.

SocksRock · 04/01/2019 09:53

Run and HIIT video done 👌

In preparation for a wine fuelled evening with my aunt and cousin!

TheGirlWhoLived · 04/01/2019 13:25

Eurgh, went out to miller and carter last night, have eaten three packs of snacks a jacks to try and soak up some of the booze, it’s not working!!

fezzesarecool · 04/01/2019 13:27

SocksRock I’m with you on that one today! I will be eating but my exercise calories

TheFirstOHN · 04/01/2019 15:26

Pre-arranged lunch out with a friend - managed not to overeat! (Estimated ~550kcal).

It helped that it was one of those small independent coffee shops where the menu is mostly sandwiches with vegan fillings in artisanal bread (I went to a Harvester on Boxing Day and ate about three days worth of food in one meal).

TheFirstOHN · 04/01/2019 18:19

When I log walking on mfp, does it take my weight into account? If I walk 5km in 1 hour, then I'd burn twice as many calories as someone half my size who is walking with me.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 04/01/2019 20:04

TheFirstOHN I believe it does, I noticed some time back that the calories burned drop as you lose weight.

I tend to use the map my walk app now instead as it syncs to MFP and I can keep better track of the distance. (Although I don't think the calories burned it very accurate on it).

TheFirstOHN · 04/01/2019 20:07

Thanks Raptor I don't enjoy exercise, so I want to make sure every km counts!
