It’s that time of year when we all start thinking about going on a diet. Anyone on my fitness pal who wants to make some friends for motivation?

Any idea if you can link mfp to Apple activity? Have just weighed in and I've put 2kg on this week since upping my exercise :(

MiraculousMarinette · 05/01/2019 09:24

Hello, can I join please? I'm not on MFP but on Nutra Check. Can I just hand out here for motivation and advice? I've been in the green calories-wise since I started on 1 Jan but find it hard to not focus on food and what I can have. I must change my mindset from 'what can I have' to 'what do I need'. It's the hardest part!

iveneversaidanything · 05/01/2019 09:37

Go to the Health app and then go to Sources. You can add MFP there

TheGirlWhoLived · 05/01/2019 13:38

I think it takes a couple of weeks to turn it into a habit miraculous, by then you’ll feel so much better anyway that you won’t want to eat too much!

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 05/01/2019 14:16

See, this is my problem, am on day 5 and am already " well why have I not lost LOADS of weight! Might as well have a cookie"

I am my own worst enemy.

I want to lose about 7 stone, I do not have a set target really, cant remember the last time I was 10 stone, and what I will look like when I get close to it, so will be flexible about that. And have set a target date for 1st Jan 2021, so giving myself 2 years. But not so secretly I really want quick results.

But I do need to do something, the last 6 months, I have really felt like the extra weight is making things hurt, when before it never did. So almost like I could pretend it was not that bad.

TheFirstOHN · 05/01/2019 16:29

Have linked MFP to "Map My Walk" (on which I also entered my weight) and it says I've done 428 calories worth of activity today...

MFP friends anyone?
TheFirstOHN · 05/01/2019 16:34

BearsDontDigOnDancing I also have a lot of weight to lose. The good part about being bigger is that the weight is coming off quite quickly to start with. The bad part is that even if I lose a stone, nobody is likely to notice.

My initial goal is to log what I eat on MFP for the whole of January (this curbs my overeating).

My eventual goal is to get my BMI down to 30 (which would take at least a year).

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 05/01/2019 18:09

TheFirstOHN - I agree having lots to lose makes it harder to notice a significant amount of weight loss, which a stone would be!

I have a weight tracking app that can apparently work out your ideal weight, and my ideal weight is apparently 8 stone 9 or something. That is just an unrealistic goal for me. I cannot see me ever getting down to that.

I say I want to get to 10 stone but tbh, I am pretty flexible on that. If I could be a 10/12 I would be happy, regardless of weight.

Even in my early twenties when I was slim and a size 10 - 12 I was always between 10-11 stone....so have always been heavier than I looked.

I am 5ft 1 (ish) and 17 stone, and am a size 18-20 depending on the shop. Usually a 20 on the bottom and an 18 on top, even though I have a large bust.

I have a pacer app on my phone which I link to MFP for "exercise" calories, although I tend to only try and eat back half of my exercise calories, if any.

I am currently aiming for 1770 calories a day basic. That is to be losing 0.5 lb a week. I did not want to go to drastic as I thought I would struggle with anything less and set myself up to fail.

TheFirstOHN · 05/01/2019 18:59

BearsDontDigOnDancing I think it's a good plan to try to lose the weight slowly. 0.5lb a week sounds sensible.

Because my January goal is to reduce my overeating, I have taken the brave step of setting my food diary so it'll be visible to my friends on MFP. (I'm the one with the sloth as my profile picture).

SocksRock · 05/01/2019 20:16

Gurgggghhh. Did a 10k run with my cousin this morning and then a good long dog walk. Garmin says I have done 24500 steps today. And then I ruin it by having a curry takeaway.

Self sabotage is the pits. I earnt a lot of extra calories today (1042 to be precise) but it won't cover a blowout like that.

I'm a knob.

TheFirstOHN · 05/01/2019 20:21

SocksRock tomorrow is a new day...

SocksRock · 05/01/2019 20:24

Rugby with the kids first thing (MUST avoid the sausage sandwich in the clubhouse, bastards now take contactless - I used to just not take money with me), then we have a roast pork lunch planned and then it's long run day. 16km if I can get out after lunch 😬. But then I'm going out for dinner with a group of friends. To a curry house.

Are we seeing a pattern here?!?

I think I'll just try and eat a very small lunch and do laps of the pitch while DD2 is training. An hours walk in laps should burn something off!

MajesticWhine · 05/01/2019 23:32

Socks - maybe the curry doesn't need to be a disaster. Could you just stick to rice and chicken and leave out the naan bread and very creamy sauces? (I would find that hard if I'm being honest)

TheGirlWhoLived · 06/01/2019 10:04

I have tandoori at a curry house, that works out less calories, tandoori salmon in particular is delicious! Also chapati is less cals than naan. I’m going to start again properly Monday, including dry January Confused

Pinkroseuk · 07/01/2019 07:08

Mfp won't let me complete my diary for most days as it says I'm under the safe amount of calories?! Any ideas how I can get round this? Thanks

Bringbackthestripes · 07/01/2019 11:35

So, I got on my scales this morning (naked, as you do) and was getting pleased with how the numbers are going down. I then went to a hospital appointment and they have weighed me 7llbs heavier!
Yes I had clothes on Grin and stuff in the pocket so as soon as I got home I re weighed myself and my scales only added 3llbs on instead of their 7. I know that their scales will be calibrated so I feel a bit rubbish now, knowing I’m really 4llbs heavier than my scales are saying.

drspouse · 07/01/2019 11:36

Pinkrose eat more?
bringback nah, yours are right.
I'm on MFP under this username.

Bringbackthestripes · 07/01/2019 11:37

Pink if it is saying you are eating under the safe amount of calories then you need to be eating more, there isn’t really a way around it.

Bringbackthestripes · 07/01/2019 11:38

nah, yours are right.
I like your thinking Wink

Pinkroseuk · 07/01/2019 12:26

Thanks guys- I've put on weight though :/ totally lost as to what to do!

SorrelForbes · 07/01/2019 12:33

I just ignore the complete diary button! I stick to 1000 per day Sun - Thur and about 1500-1600 on Fri and Sat.

Boysmomma · 07/01/2019 12:48

Can I jump on this please?

I'm doing a kick start programme at the mo but planning to go back to 5:2 then. I've lost 26kg so far and another 30kg to go, by no means close.

I'm ANIDec17

SocksRock · 07/01/2019 16:00

Curry was a disaster. But. Picked myself up, am doing well today, been for a run in my lunch break and I've got about 800 calories left for tea. Will do a HIIT video once the kids are in bed, DH is out tonight so I can have a light tea without him moaning that he wants a "proper" meal (meat and carbs neither of which I would choose personally).

Scales were horrible this morning, but I've made a real effort to not let it sabotage me today. Run was hard work as well, but I went. Unfortunately got an urgent call out when I was still out so had to leg it back for a shower and to get out to the call. At least I got a sprint finish!

TheGirlWhoLived · 07/01/2019 16:03

Right kids go back tomorrow so I can kick ass with some exercise- still leftover crap in the house but I am not a dustbin. If it goes in the bin it is as much a waste as if I eat it .

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 07/01/2019 16:34

I tripped and fell onto a doughnut yesterday evening..... luckily it was face first Wink

Apart from that I've been OK this week. We've also still got loads of christmas stuff left in the house TheGirlWhoLived I've split it into two tubs, one for DD and one for DH. somehow doing that stops me eating it.

HOWEVER Grin

I may also have bought a giant tub of haribo today in the sales, but 1) it was £2.80 and b) it was 28 mini packets so each one is 55ish calories meaning I can log them easily enough as long as I don't eat the whole tub I'm a work in progress Wink
